System Requirements
Before installation, make sure you have the following requirements.
 Pentium II 233 or above
 At least 32 MB RAM (64 MB recommended)
 A minimum of 10 MB available hard disk space or more
 An available PCI slot
 CD-ROM drive
 Windows 98/98 SE/Me/2000/XP
 Windows 98/98 SE users may need the Windows 98/98 SE CD
 An ADSL Internet service account
Internet Account Information
Fill in the table below with information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
or telephone company before installation. You may not need to fill in every blank.

The WAN driver uses Dial-up Networking to establish the
ADSL connection. The LAN driver establishes an always-on
ADSL connection automatically.

Hardware Installation
Follow the steps below to install the Prestige in your computer.
Save and close all programs before you begin.
1. Turn off the computer and peripheral
device, such as the printer. Then
disconnect the computer power cord from
the power source.
2. Ground yourself by wearing an anti-static
wrist strap or touching a metal object.
3. Remove the computer cover and the
Prestige from its packaging.
4. Insert the Prestige into an available PCI
slot. Make sure the Prestige’s contacts are
fully seated in the PCI slot.
5. Secure the Prestige to the computer with a
bracket screw.
6. Replace the computer cover and plug in
the power cord.
Hardware Connection
Connect the Prestige directly to the telephone wall jack with a telephone cable as
shown in the figure below.
Driver Installation
Follow the steps to install the device driver for the Prestige to work properly.
1. When a Found New Hardware Wizard window displays. Click Cancel to
close the wizard window.
2. Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive in your computer.
The CD-Rom auto runs and an AutoPlay Menu window displays as shown.
(If no screen displays, find and double-click Open.exe on the support
CD-ROM.)

3. Click Driver Installation. A DSL Modem Setup Wizard screen displays.
Select your language from the scroll-down list box and click OK.
4. Click Accept to agree to the software license agreement.
5. If your ISP is not listed, click Customize and then Next.
6. Select the type of driver specified by your ISP and click Next.
7. Enter the communication settings specified by your ISP and click Next.
8. Verify the communication settings and click Next.
9. When the installation process is completed, select Yes, reboot the
computer now and click Close to restart the computer.
When you start Windows, the utility software is launched automatically and an
icon will be added to the system tray.
If the icon does not appear in your system tray, you can manually start the utility
by clicking Start, Programs, Prestige 610 ADSL PCI Modem and then
Configure. Refer to the User’s Guide for more information.
Network Access Configuration
Go to the LAN – Configuring an Always-on Connection section for the LAN driver.
Go to the WAN – Configuring a Dial-Up Connection section for the WAN driver.
When your computer has restarted or the connection is established, you are ready
to access the Internet.
LAN – Configuring an Always-on Connection
For Windows 98/98 SE/Me
1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network.
2. Select Configuration, TCP/IP, Prestige 610 ADSL PCI Modem and
click Properties.
3. In the IP Address tab, if your ISP gives you a static (or fixed) IP address,
select Specify an IP address and enter the IP address and subnet mask.
4. Select the Gateway tab and enter your gateway information.
5. If DNS information is given, select the DNS Configuration tab and enter
the DNS information.
6. Click OK twice to exit the Network window.
7. Restart the computer when prompted.

For Windows 2000/XP
1. Click My Computer, Control Panel, Network and Dial-up
Connections (Windows 2000) or Network Connections (Windows XP).
2. Right-click the icon for the Prestige and click Properties.
3. In the General tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click
Properties.
4. If your ISP does not give you an IP address, select Obtain your IP
address automatically and Obtain your DNS IP address
automatically.
If your ISP gives you a static (or fixed) IP address, select Use the
following IP Address and enter the IP address, subnet mask and default
gateway. If given, enter the DNS IP address.
Then click OK.
5. Close the Local Area Connection Properties window and restart the
computer when prompted.
WAN – Configuring a Dial-Up Connection
For Windows 98/98 SE/Me
1. Click My Computer, Dial-Up Networking, right-click the icon for
Prestige and click Properties.
2. Click the Server Types (Windows 98/98 SE) or Networking (Windows
Me) tab and select TCP/IP.
3. Check your TCP/IP settings and click OK to return to the Dial-up
Networking window.
4. Double-click the icon for the Prestige.
5. Enter only the user name and password provided by your ISP and click
Connect.
For Windows 2000/XP
1. Click My Computer, Control Panel, Network and Dial-up
Connections (Windows 2000) or Network Connections (Windows XP).
2. Right-click the icon for the Prestige and click Properties.
3. In the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click
Properties.
4. Check your TCP/IP settings and click OK to go back to the Network and
Dial-up Connections (Windows 2000) or Network Connections
(Windows XP) window.

5. Double-click the icon for the Prestige.
6. Enter the user name and password provided by your ISP and click Dial.
Troubleshooting
PROBLEM CORRECTIVE ACTION
Make sure the Prestige’s contacts are fully and firmly seated in the
PCI slot and the Prestige is secured to the computer with a bracket
screw. Then restart your computer.
Perform a hardware scan.
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove
Hardware (steps may vary depending on the version of Windows).
Follow the on-screen instructions to search for the Prestige and install
the driver.
Check for possible hardware conflicts.
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware and Device
Manager (steps may vary depending on the version of Windows).
Verify the status of the Prestige under Network Adapter.
Install the Prestige in another computer.
Windows
does not
auto-detect
the new
Prestige.
If the error persists, you may have a hardware problem. In this case,
you should contact your local vendor.
I cannot
access the
Internet.
Check the cable connection between the Prestige on your computer
and the telephone wall jack.
Verify the communication settings of the Prestige.
For LAN connection type: make sure you entered the network
information correctly.
For WAN connection type: make sure you entered your user name
and password correctly. Your user name and/or password may be
case sensitive.

PROBLEM CORRECTIVE ACTION
I cannot
configure
my
Ethernet
adapter.
This problem may only occur in Windows 2000 computers. This
happens if you did not remove the Prestige physically from the
computer after uninstalling the driver or if you did not install the driver
properly. Do one of the following:
• Uninstall the driver but DO NOT restart the computer when
prompted. Shut down the computer from the Start menu and
remove the Prestige physically from the computer.
• Uninstall the Prestige driver manually in the Device Manager
screen if you do not wish to remove the Prestige physically
from the computer.
• Follow the steps in this Quick Installation Guide to install the
driver after you installed the Prestige in the computer.
Refer to the User’s Guide for detailed information.
You can still use the Ethernet adapter to connect
to the network.
