Information for Canadian Users

Before installing thisequipment, usersshould ensure

individual service may be extended by means of a

the user to this equipment, or equipment

Fortheirownprotection,usersshouldensurethatthe
electrical ground connections of the power utility,
telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe
system, if present, are connected together. This
precaution may beparticularly important in rural
areas.

Users should not attempt to make such connections
themselves, but should contact the appropriate

appropriate.

ZyXEL Limited Warranty
ZyXEL warrants to the original end user (purchaser)
that this product is free from any defects in materials
or workmanship for a period of up to two years from
thedateofpurchase.Duringthewarrantyperiod,and
upon proof of purchase, should the product have
indications of failure due to faulty workmanship
and/or materials, ZyXEL will, at its discretion, repair
or replace the defective products or components
without charge for either parts or labor, and to
whatever extent it shall deem necessary to restore
the product or components to proper operating
condition. Any replacement will consist of a new or
re-manufactured functionally equivalent product of
equal value, and will be solely at the discretion of
ZyXEL. This warranty shall not apply if the product is
modified, misused, tampered with, damaged by an
act of God, or subjected to abnormal working
conditions.
Note
Repair or replacement, as provided under this
warranty, is the exclusive remedy of the purchaser.
This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties,
express or implied, including any implied warranty of
merchantability or fitness for a particular use or
purpose. ZyXEL shall in no event be held liable for
indirect or consequential damages of any kind of
character to the purchaser.
To obtain the services of this warranty, contact
ZyXEL's Service Center; refer to the separate
Warranty Card for your Return Material Authorization
number (RMA). Products must be returned Postage
Prepaid. It is recommended that the unit be insured
when shipped. Any returned products without proof
of purchase or those with an out-dated warranty will

be repaired or replaced (at the discretion of ZyXEL)
and the customer will be billed for parts and labor. All
repaired or replaced products will be shipped by
ZyXEL to the corresponding return address, Postage
Paid (USA and territories only). If the customer
desires some other return destination beyond the
U.S. borders, the customer shall bear the cost of the
return shipment. This warranty gives you specific
legal rights, and you may also have other rights that
vary from state to state.

1Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your new 1 Mbps
phoneline PCI adapter card. This document shows
you how to install of the adapter in your computer.
The phoneline PCI card is a cost-effective,
high-performance network interface card. It provides
connectivity to 1Mbps phoneline networking.
The 1 Mbps phoneline networking is a new
technology that provides network connectivity over
existing telephone wires without any impact on the
voice service.

1.2 System Requirements
To use the adapter card, you need the following:
qA PCI-based computer
qA PCI master mode expansion slot that is

qA 3.5-inch, 1.44MB diskette drive
qTwisted-pair telephone lines for 1 Mbps
phoneline networking installation
This section describes how to install the adapter card
in your computer.
1.3 Unpacking
Caution:
To prevent static charge from damaging the
adapter, reduce the charge by touching a
ground, e.g., the computer chassis, before
handling the adapter card.
Open theshippingcarton andcarefullyremove allthe
items. In addition to this User’s Guide, please check
the following:
qOne phoneline networking PCI card
qOne 3.5” driver diskette
Note:
If any of the listed items is missing, please
contact your distributor or reseller.
1.4 Installing the Phoneline Card
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power
cord.
2. Remove the computer’s cover according to its
manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Insert the contact edge of the adapter card into

one of the available PCI bus master expansion
slot. Press the card firmly into the PCI slot and
make sure that the card is fully seated.
4. Tighten the bracket screw that secures the card to
the computer chassis.
5. Reinstall the computer’s cover.
6. Turn on the computer.
7. If your computer is plug-n-play compliant, then at
power up the BIOS will configure any newly
installed adapter card automatically.
Note:
Due to some plug-n-play BIOS’ bug, it happens
occasionally that a newly installed adapter card is
assigned an interrupt number that is already usedby
another device. The conflict in interrupt number will
cause both devices to behave abnormally. If this
should happen, it is necessary to run the CMOS
Setup utility and manually assign a non-conflicting
interrupt number to the adapter card.
1.5 Connecting the Phoneline Network
Connect either one of the RJ-11 ports on the adapter
card to the wall jack using a regular telephone line. If
you have a telephone, connect it to the other RJ-11
port.
1.6 Drivers and Utilities Diskette
The diskette contains drivers for the following
operatingsystems:
ŸWindows 95/98
ŸWindows NT 3.5, 4.0

1.7 Software Installation
Microsoft Windows 95:
1.After installing the adapter card and reboot,
Windows 95 will discover the new adapter card.
2.Windows 95 will prompt for driver installation.
3.Insert the driver diskette into the floppy drive and
click <other locations>.
4.Windows 95 will install the driver from the diskette.
5.Reboot the computer.
Microsoft Windows 98:
1.After installing the adapter card and reboot,
Windows 98 will discover the new adapter card.
2.Windows 98 will show two choices. Choose
“Search for the best driver for your device”.
3.Select “Floppy disk drives” when Windows 98
prompts for driver installation.
4.Windows 98 will install the driver from the diskette.
5.Reboot the computer.

2.1 使用說明書

以電話線及電腦終端機設備連接網路之功用。主
要功能項目包括：
1. 支援 1Mbps HomePNA specification 1.1。
2. 支援 IEEE 802.3 10BASE-T及IEEE 802.3u
100BASE-TX。
3. 支援 32位元PCI 2.0/2.1/2.2 之介面標
準。
4. 支援兩個RJ-11電話接頭及一個10Mbps
RJ-45 乙太網路接頭。

2.2 軟體安裝方式
Windows 2000安裝步驟
請採用下列步驟安裝 Windows 2000 驅動程式：
1. 將電腦電源關上。
2. 將網路卡插入電腦的 PCI 插槽內。
3. 重新開機。
4. 當Windows 2000開始執行時，它會自動
測到 Phoneline PCI轉接卡，並將系統內
之驅動程式自動啟動。
5. W2000 會提示數位簽章警告，請按”是”，
完成更新動作。
6. Windows 會自動安裝驅動程式。
7. 重新啟動 Windows 系統。
Windows 95/98 安裝步驟
1. 將電腦電源關上。
2. 將網路卡插入電腦的 PCI 插槽內。
3. 重新開機。
4. 當Windows 開始執行時，它會自動偵測到
10/100Mbps 網路卡，並要求安裝驅動程式。
