2Introduction
About the Product
The Pannoramic®Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) system is used as an aid to the pathologist to
review and interpret digital images of surgical pathology slides prepared from formalin-fixed
paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue, cytology smear/specimen, peripheral blood smear, HE
(hematoxylin eosin stained) tissue, IHC labeled tissue, or frozen section. The Pannoramic®WSI
system consist of a Scanner, image management system (store, view, and analyze images),
and monitor. These systems utilize optical, mechanical, electronic, and software elements to
scan FFPE tissue, cytology specimen, or frozen section mounted on glass slides at a resolution
of at least 0.24 μm per pixel to create digital whole slide images. The system is designed to be
connected over a network within a hospital/clinic in which the Scanner, image management
system, and monitor can be in separate locations if desired. The pathologist workstation with
access to the IMS and Monitor will either be in the pathology lab or in the pathologist office.

pathologist to review and interpret digital images of surgical pathology slides prepared from
formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue, cytology smear/specimen, peripheral
blood smear, HE (hematoxylin eosin stained) tissue, IHC labeled tissue, or frozen section.
The 3DHISTECH whole slide imaging system comprises the Image Management System, the
Scanner, and Monitor. The system is for creation and viewing of digital images of scanned glass
slides that would otherwise be appropriate for manual visualization by conventional light
microscopy. It is the responsibility of a qualified pathologist to employ appropriate procedures
and safeguards to assure the validity of the interpretation of images obtained using the system.
Warning!
Use of this product for purposes other than those intended by the manufacturer, as well as
incorrect use or operation, may relieve the manufacturer from all or some responsibility for
resultant non-compliance, damage, or injury. This shall also apply to service or repair work of
any kind, which is performed by other than authorized service personnel. All claims for
warranty and warranty services will be null and void in any such case.
Warning!
The Pannoramic® DESK FLASH DX must be operated by a properly trained person only.
Operating personnel must be fully aware of the potential dangers which a particular field of
application involves. The Pannoramic® DESK FLASH DX is a precision instrument which may
suffer a significant reduction in operational functions or even physical destruction following
intervention performed in any nonconforming manner.
Labeling Limitations
•The Pannoramic®WSI systems allows pathologist to perform diagnosis on digital images
of scanned glass slides, provided the Pannoramic® DESK FLASH DX, IMS, and Monitor are used
with a user managed network with connectivity of at least 100 Mbps.
•Clinical performance of the device was not evaluated for all possible tissues and
diagnoses. Visit chapter Specific Performance Characteristics for more information.
•There are pre-analytical factors such as tissue thickness, tissue folds, staining quality and
intensity, etc. that have effect on image quality. If the quality of the images causes the
pathologist to have uncertainty about the accuracy of a diagnosis, then the pathologist should
examine the corresponding glass slide by conventional methods before rendering a diagnosis.
Compatibility
Ancillary equipment, accessories, and components may only be used with the Pannoramic®
DESK FLASH DX system that are recognized by 3DHISTECH as compatible.
