SET-UP
1. Familiarize yourself both visually and physically with the
mechanical parts of your microscope. Operate each part by hand
(no tools required) to see how it behaves and its result.
2. Your microscope was shipped fully assembled, yet some
components may loosen during transit. Check the objectives are
securely mounted in the nosepiece by gripping the knurled ring on
the objectives with your fingers and turn it to the right –
finger-tight is sufficient. Rotate the nosepiece by hand and notice
that each objective lens has a “click stop” that stops and holds the
objective being used in its proper position relative to the optical
axis of the microscope.
3. Plug the power cord into the back of the microscope and into an
electrical socket. Switch your microscope “ON” and it is ready for
use. Power switch is on the back.
OPERATION
Follow the steps below to prepare the specimen for viewing:
Rotate the nosepiece so the 4x objective is in the down position.
Press the stage clip bar down, place the slide onto the stage, and
gently release the slide clip bar ensuring that the stage clips hold it
firmly in place.
Position the slide so that the portion of the specimen that you wish
to observe is below the 4x objective and in the light path.
Slowly rotate the coarse focus knob until the stage is approximately
1/8” from the objective –do not to let the slide contact the objective
as damage to either or both may occur.
HINT: When using the coarse focus knob, start with the objective as close
to the stage as possible and focus from the bottom up. This will help to
prevent any contact between the objective and the stage.
Adjust the disc diaphragm to control the amount of light into the
specimen.
To change the magnification, first turn the focus knob so the
objective is positioned at its furthest point from the stage.
Turn the nosepiece until the desired objective is in place.
Return the objective to the point closest to the stage and focus once
again backing away from the stage.
To determine the total magnification, multiply the magnification of
the objective with that of the eyepiece (e.g., 10x objective X 10x
eyepiece = 100x magnification).
