Care and cleaning
• All care and cleaning operations should be carried out
with the unit unplugged from the mains power.
• Occasionally wipe the cabinet with a lint free duster.
Never clean the unit with liquids or solvents.

Overview of controls
Getting started
Before use your player will require charging fully.
Follow the below instructions to charge.

1: Using the usb charging cable connect the mini usb
plug into the usb charge socket (7) on the bottom of
the unit.
2: Connect the other end of the cable to a laptop/pc usb
input & power on the pc/laptop.
3: The unit will power ON.
3: During the charging process the LED indicator (9) will
display a RED led light.
4: When fully charged the LED indicator (9) will display a
PURPLE (RED & BLUE) led light.

Connecting to a PC
Once the unit is charged or during charging you can
copy files to the player.
1: Follow steps 1-2of ‘Getting started’ to connect the
player to a pc/ laptop.
2: Once connected the player will power up and display
the following screen.
3: When the unit is connected a hardware driver
is automatically installed and the device is
then available in the list of devices (Named
CMP3160_160).On some operating systems an auto
play window will appear. Choose to take no action and
click OK to close the window.
4: Double click ‘My Computer’ Or ‘Computer’ on some
operating systems.Look for ‘Removable disks
or storage’ option and locate the device named
‘CMP3160_160’ and double click.
NOTE:Do not disconnect the USB cable at any
time when copying data to or from the device.
5: Drag & drop media files into the applicable folders on
the removable device.
6: After data transfer has completed you can disconnect
the device from the PC by right clicking on the
‘CMP3160_160G’ device and selecting ‘EJECT’.
7: Remove the USB cable from the PC & bottom of the
unit (7).
Earphone connection
Instructions for earphone usage.
1: Connect the 3.5mm earphone plug into the
EARPHONE socket (1) on the bottom of the unit.
To prevent possible hearing damage,
do not listen at high volume levels
for long periods.
In music mode,when the volume is adjusted to
85dB the above warning will appear on the
display.
If you hear no sound during playback, do not turn
the volume up as the music may suddenly begin
at a high volume.
Excessive sound pressure from earphones and
headphones can cause hearing loss.
To avoid damaging your ears, adjust the volume to
the lowest safe level before playing, and turn up to
the desired level when playback has started.
Basic operation
Power On/ Off
1: Press and hold the POWER button (12) for 2seconds
to power the unit ON.
2: Press and hold the POWER button (12) for 2seconds
to power the unit OFF. A pop up message will appear
to check you want to power OFF.
3: Press the SELECT button (5) to proceed and power
OFF.

VOLPWR
1: Press or press & hold the VOLUME+ button (13) to
increase the volume output.
2: Press or press & hold the VOLUME- button (14) to
decrease the volume output.
The playlist menu
Updating the playlist library
The PLAYLIST menu allows songs to be browsed in
various sorted libraries.For example :All Songs,Album,
Artists,Style & Favourite.Follow the below steps to
familiarise yourself with the functions.
NOTE:Before the ‘playlist’ library can be used the
music files on the internal memory need to be
compiled into the various libraries.
1: Once audio tracks have been transferred to the
internal memory and the device is switched ON,The
playlist database will begin updating automatically in
the background.
2: Should you wish to access music immediately
without waiting you can browse all files using the
‘File browser menu’.
3: Instructions on how to perform the database update
manually can be found on page 7.
NOTE:The more audio files you add to the internal
memory the longer the process will take.
Navigating the playlist menu
1: Navigate to the ‘PLAYLIST’ menu icon on the main
screen using the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog
wheel.
2: Press the SELECT button (5) to enter the menu.
3: Using the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
select an option from the below list:
All Songs: Displays all songs on the internal memory in
one list.
Album:Sorts all songs in album format.
Artist:Sorts all songs by artist.
Style:Sorts all songs by genre
Favourite:Displays all songs designated as a‘favourite’
(see favourites section page 6).
NOTE:Some libraries like Album, Artist & Style
require an addition press of the SELECT (5) button
to enter the selected Album, Artist or Style.
4: To begin playback of a selected track press the
SELECT (5) button.
The file browser menu
The FILE BROWSER menu enables navigation of the
internal memory as it is displayed on a PC.
1: Navigate to the ‘FILE BROWSER’ menu icon on the
main screen using the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons
or jog wheel.

2: Press the SELECT button (5) to enter the menu.
3: Using the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
select a track or folder from the list.
4: To begin playback of a selected track or to enter a
selected folder press the SELECT (5) button.
Now playing
Whenever a track is playing you can access the
playback screen by selecting the‘NOW PLAYING’icon.
1: Navigate to the ‘NOW PLAYING’ menu icon on the
main screen using the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons
or jog wheel.
2: Press the SELECT button (5) to enter the playback
screen.

Below is a breakdown of playback screen functions.
A: Volume output level.
B: Play mode icons (see Playback mode section).
C: Audio Track tags:Artist, Album & bit rate.
D: Track time line including elapsed time & time left.
E: Number of track & tracks available in the album/
folder.
F: Battery level indicator.
G: Active playback mode icon (see Playback mode
section).
Playback mode
Select a playback mode from the below options.
Favourite Assign as a favourite track
Order Play all tracks in order
Repeat all Repeats all tracks
Repeat one Repeats the current track
Shuffle
Plays all tracks in a
random order
1: Press the MODE SELECT button (3) to display the
playback options.
2: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
to select one of the above options and press the
SELECT button (5) to activate the function.
Favourites
You can tag multiple tracks to appear in the‘favourite’
section of the‘Playlist’ menu.These can then be played
back in order or randomly using the playback modes
described in the previous section.
1: From the ‘Now Playing’ screen with a track playing
press the MODE SELECT button (3) to display the
play mode icons.
2: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
to select the ‘favourite’ icon. Press the SELECT
button (5) to store.
3: The current track is now assigned as a favourite
track and will appear in the ‘Favourite’ list from the
PLAYLIST menu.
4: To remove a favourite there are two options.
Press the MODE SELECT button (3) from the ‘Now
playing’ menu and select the ‘favourite’ icon once
more.
Or from the PLAYLIST menu select the FAVOURITE
list, highlight the track and press the MODE SELECT
button (3). Press the SELECT button when you see
‘CLEAR FAVOURITE’ appear.

Music setting menu
Play mode
As an alternative to using the icons in the‘Now playing’
menu you can assign a playback mode from here.
Select one of the options explained below.
Order Play all tracks in order
Repeat all Repeats all tracks
Repeat one Repeats the current track
Shuffle
Plays all tracks in a
random order
Boot volume
Select from the below options to set the volume level
when powering ON the device.
Default volume: Restores the volume level to ‘69’ when
powering ON the device.
Memory Volume: Resumes the last volume level when
powering ON the device.
Memory playback
When activated memory playback will remember the
last track played and begin playback of the same track
when powered ON.
Update playlist
The PLAYLIST functions are explained on page 5.The
below instructions explain how to manually update the
playlist database.
1: Select the UPDATE PLAYLIST option to begin
updating the database manually.
2: If you need to cancel the operation at any time press
the BACK button (11).
NOTE:The more audio files you add to the internal
memory the longer the process will take.
System setting menu
Background pattern
Select from 4 different background patterns.
1: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel to
select a pattern.
NOTE:As you scroll through the patterns the
background pattern changes automatically.
2: Press the SELECT button (5).
3: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
to select OK from the ‘Save?’ option box and press
SELECT to store the setting.
Backlight time
Set the time the backlight stays on after no buttons
have been pressed.
1: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
to select a duration from 15s, 30s, 45s, 60s, 120s or

to select OK from the ‘Save?’ option box and press
SELECT to store the setting.
Backlight brightness
Set the brightness of the backlight.
1: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel to
select a brightness level from level 1-5.
NOTE:As you scroll through the settings the
backlight changes automatically.
2: Press the SELECT button (5).
3: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
to select OK from the ‘Save?’ option box and press
SELECT to store the setting.

Power off
Set the time the unit stays on with no activity.
1: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel to
select a duration from No power off, 15 mins, 30 mins,
45 mins,60 mins, 90 mins or 120 mins.
2: Press the SELECT button (5).
3: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel
to select OK from the ‘Save?’ option box and press
SELECT to store the setting.
Information
When activated displays system information such as
internal storage available capacity & the total number
of tracks stored on the internal memory.
Restore factory settings
To restore the device back to the default settings follow
the below instructions.
1: With ‘Restore factory settings’ selected in the
menu ,press the SELECT button (5) to display the
confirmation pop up.
2: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel to
select OK from the ‘Restore to factory settings?’
option box and press SELECT to reset the settings.
NOTE:This does not delete any audio files stored
on the internal memory.
Format internal memory
To delete all audio files stored on the internal
memory and restore to a blank state follow the below
instructions.
1: With ‘Format internal memory’ selected in the
menu ,press the SELECT button (5) to display the
confirmation pop up.
2: Use the NEXT (10), PREV (6) buttons or jog wheel to
select OK from the ‘Formatting Internal Memory
will erase all songs!’ option box and press SELECT to
format the internal memory.
NOTE:This function will remove all files stored on
the internal memory.
