CALIBRATION PROCEDURE
Required Equipment:
INSTRUMENT TYPE RECOMMENDED MODEL
1 DC/AC Voltage Calibrator Fluke Model 5100B or equivalent
1 Digital Multimeter Fluke Model 8050A or equivalent:
Accuracy: 0.1% DC and ≥0.15% AC or equivalent
1 Current amplifier Fluke Model 5220 or equivalent
1 Magnet Wire Coil 100 turns
1 Small insulated screwdriver
1 BNC to banana plug adapter
2 DMM with 1 A Range and 1 V AC Datron 1062 or equivalent
band with 100 KHz Accuracy 1% or better
1 Function generator from 50 to 100 KHz
To be able to calibrate the SL261 you need to pop out the plastic dot located on the left side of
the probe (use sharp tweezers), thus accessing the potentiometer. Connect the different
instruments as shown below.
Use the following procedure to calibrate the AEMC Model SL261:
Turn calibrator on and allow sufficient warm-up time for stable operation (15 to 30 mn).
a) Connect the 100 turns coil to the output of the calibrator and the Model SL261 to the Digital
Multimeter input (use the BNC adapter). Select the 200 mV DC range on the multimeter and
"100 mV/A" range on the probe

b) With the probe out of the coil adjust the zero adjust knob (R11) to read 0 ±0.5 mV on the
multimeter.
c) Set the calibrator to provide 60 mA at 50 Hz in the 100 turns coil, thus producing 6 A turns.
With the voltmeter in the AC function (1 V range) and the probe centered on the coil, adjust
R17 to read 602 mV ± 2 mV.
Set the amplifier to standby.
d) Select the “10 mV/A” range and set the calibrator to source 600 mA at 50 Hz in the 100
turns coil, thus producing 60 A turns.
With the voltmeter in the AC function (1 V range) and the probe centered on the coil, check
that the reading is 600 mV ±24 mV.
Set the calibrator to source 60 mA at 50 Hz in the 100 turns coil, thus producing 6 A turns.
Check that the reading is 60 mV ±2.4 mV.
After calibration check the current probe on the chart below. If some points are out of accuracy,
readjust R17 to balance the readings.

Use the same setup as done in the calibration. The red LED must be lit when the current
measured is greater than the value of the chart below.
Measure Range

Connect a 100 turns coil to the output of function generator and monitor the current with an
ammeter (100 Khz bandwith) in series. Adjust the current to 19 mA AC at 100 Khz. The probe
output is between 130.15 mV and 193.8 mV on the 100 mV/A range and 13.02 to 19.4 mV on
the 10 mV/A range.

Repair and Calibration
To ensure that your instrument meets factory specifications, we recommend that it be submitted to our
factory Service Center at one-year intervals for recalibration, or as required by other standards or
internal procedures.
For Instrument Repair and Calibration:
You must contact our Service Center for a Customer Service Authorization number (CSA#). This will
ensure that when your instrument arrives, it will be tracked and processed promptly. Please write the
CSA# on the outside of the shipping container. If the instrument is returned for calibration, we need to
know if you want a standard calibration, or a calibration traceable to N.I.S.T. (includes calibration
certificate plus recorded calibration data).
