Analyzer type considerations
In the Configuration menu you have the choice of configuring an
analyzer machine a either a State analyzer or a Timing analyzer.
Some menu in the analyzer will change depending on the analyzer
type you choo e. For example, ince a Timing analyzer doe not u e
external clock , the clock a ignment field in the Format menu will
not be available.
If a menu field i only available to a particular analyzer type, the field
i de ignated (Timing only) or (State only) after the field name. If no
de ignation i hown, the field i available for both type .

Introduction

ogic Analyzer Description
The Agilent Technologie 1660A Serie Logic Analyzer are part of a
new generation of general-purpo e logic analyzer . The 1660A Serie
con i t of five different model ranging in channel width from 34
channel to 136 channel . State peed i either 50-MHz or 100-MHz
(depending on the model), and all model have 500-MHz timing
peed . The 1660A erie logic analyzer are de igned a full-featured
tand-alone in trument for u e by digital and microproce or
hardware and oftware de igner . All model have GPIB, RS-232C,
and/or Centronix interface for hard copy printout and control by a
ho t computer.
•The 1660A ha 100-MHz tate peed, 130 data channel , ix
data/clock channel , and both GPIB/RS-232C interface .
•The 1661A ha 100-MHz tate peed, 96 data channel , ix
data/clock channel , and both GPIB/RS-232C interface .
•The 1662A ha 100-MHz tate peed, 64 data channel and four
data/clock channel , and both GPIB/RS-232C interface .
•The 1663A ha 100-MHz tate peed, 32 data channel , two
data/clock channel , and both GPIB/RS-232C interface .
•The 1664A ha 50-MHz tate peed, 32 data channel , two
data/clock channel , and a Centronix interface (GPIB/RS-232C
available a option ).
Memory depth i 4 Kbyte per channel in all pod pair grouping , or
8 Kbyte per channel on one pod of a pod pair (half channel mode).
Mea urement data i di played a data li ting and waveform , and
can al o be plotted on a chart or compared to a reference image.
The 50/100-MHz tate analyzer ha ma ter, ma ter/ lave, and
demultiplexed clocking mode available. Mea urement data can be
tamped with tate or time tag . For triggering and data torage, the
tate analyzer u e 12 equence level with two-way branching, 10
pattern re ource term , 2 range term , and 2 timer .

The 500-MHz timing analyzer ha conventional, tran itional, and glitch
timing mode with variable width, depth, and peed election .

User Interface
The 1660 Serie analyzer have everal ea y-to-u e u er interface device :
the knob, the front panel arrow key and keypad, the mou e, and the optional
keyboard.
Front panel arrow key move the highlighter to identify the de ired field,
then a front panel Select key i pre ed to activate the field. The knob
quickly move the highlighter (cur or) in certain menu to highlight option
to elect and to quickly change numeric a ignment field .
The keypad on the front panel i u ed to enter alpha and numeric data into
a ignment field . A mou e and an optional full ize keyboard are al o
available.
To elect a field with the mou e, po ition the cur or (+) of the mou e over
the de ired field and pre the button on the upper-left corner of the mou e.
The optional keyboard can control all in trument function by u ing pecial
function key , the arrow key , and the Enter key. Alpha and numeric entry i
imply typed in.

Configuration Capabilities
The five analyzer model in the 1660 Serie offer a wide variety of channel
width and memory depth combination . The number of data channel range
from 34 channel with the 1664A, up to 136 channel with the 1660A. In
addition, a half channel acqui ition mode i available which double memory
depth from 4 Kbyte to 8 Kbyte per channel while reducing channel width
by half.
The configuration guide below illu trate the memory depth/channel width
combination in all acqui ition mode with all analyzer model .

•With Time or State tag turned on, memory depth i reduced by half.
However, full depth i retained if you leave one pod pair una igned.
