Step 1 Before installing the utility software,DO NOT insert the USB
adapterintoyourcomputer.If the adapter is inserted already, Windows
will detect the adapter and request for a driver. ClickCancel to quit the
wizardand removetheUSB adapterfromyour computer.
Step 3 Click Next at the InstallShield Wizard screen. See Fig 1.2.

Step 4 Click Next to accept the default destination folder or click
Browse to select a destination location.
Step 2 Closeallprogramsthat are currently running. Insert the provided
Driver & Utility CD into your CD-ROM drive and clickInstall Software from
the setup menu. See Fig. 1.1.
Note: If the setup menu does not automatically appear, go toStart,
Run, and type D:\Autorun.exe (where Dis the letter of your CD-
ROM drive) and clickOK.

Step 2 At the Found New Hardware Wizard, do one of the following:

Access the Wireless Configuration Utility
After installing the software and USB adapter, you should use the Wireless
ConfigurationUtilitytoconfiguretheappropriatesettingsin order to establish
connection with your wireless network.
You can access the utility by double-clicking the Wireless Configuration
Utility icon in the System Tray or select the Wireless Configuration Utility
HW.00 from theStart, Programs menu.SeeFig. 3.1
Step 5 Click Next toacceptthedefaultprogramfolder name.
Step 6 Click Finish tocompletethedriverandutility installation.
Step 7 Restart the computer if you are prompted to do so.

Step 1 After the computer is restarted, insert the USB adapter into the
computer’s USB port.
Note: If the space around the computer’s USB port is too crowded to
insert the USB adapter directly, you can use the provided USB extension
cable. See Fig. 2.1

For Windows 98, select Search for the best driver for your device and
click Next.
For Windows 2000/XP, selectInstall the software automaticallyand
click Next.
Step 3For Windows 98,When you are prompted for the Windows 98 CD,
insert it and typeD:\Win98 (whereDis the letter of your CD-ROM drive)
and click OK.
For Windows 2000/XP, click Yes orContinueAnyway if the Windows logo
compatibilitymessageappears.
Step 4 Click Finish to complete the installation.
Note:Windowsshould automaticallyinstallthe driver fortheUSB adapter. If
youarepromptedforthelocation of the driver, browse to the Driver & Utility
CD and choose thenetv558.inf file from the folderwiththenameofthe
operating system you are using.

Note to Windows XP Users Only
Windows XP provides a built-in Wireless Zero Configuration Utilityfor
configuringandmonitoring wireless devices onyourcomputer. When it is
enabled,itwill override the WirelessConfigurationUtility.To disable the
Windows XPWireless Zero Configuration Utilityand have the Wireless
ConfigurationUtilitymanage your USB adapter, performthefollowing steps:
Step 2 On the Wireless Networks tab, uncheck the Use Windows to
configure my wireless network settings box and clickOK. This will
restorethemanagementfunctiontotheWireless Configuration Utility.
Basic Configurations
Step 1 Double-click the Windows XP network icon and clickAdvanced (or
Properties).
Select the Monitor tab in the Wireless Configuration Utility to set your
settings. See Fig. 3.2
The current settings are grayed out. To change the settings click
Change. After changing the settings, clickSubmit to activate the new
settings.
Operating Mode: Thereare two operating modes for the Wireless
USBAdapter,InfrastructuremodeandAd-Hocmode. Ifyou choose
Infrastructure mode, the USB adapter will connect to an access point/
wirelessrouter.Ifyou choose Ad-Hoc mode,theUSBadapter will
connect to a wireless station directly.

Channel: Displays the channel number that is currently being used by
theUSBadapter. The channel number canonlybe set under the Ad-Hoc
mode.InAd-Hoc mode, each clientmusthavethe same channel number
andSSIDinorderto connect to each other properly. In Infrastructure
mode, the USB adapter will automatically detect and use the channel
numberprovidedby the access point/wireless router.
SSID: Enter the SSID of the network you wish to join. The SSID distin-
guishes one WLAN group from another, so all access points and all
devices attempting to connect to a specific WLAN group must use the
same SSID.
Once you have configured and submitted your settings, go to theSite Survey
Tab. See Fig. 3.3

Double-click the BSSID of the SSID you wish to connect to.
You should now have connection with the target network.

Enable WEP Encryption (optional)
Step 1 From the Wireless Configuration Utility, select theEncryption
tab.
Step 2 Select either 64 Bit or 128 Bit.
Step 3 Enter the values that you want to use from Key #1 to Key #4. If you
select 64 Bit, you must type10 values ranging fromthenumbers0 through
9 and the letters A through F in any combination. If you select128 Bit, you
must type26 values ranging from the numbers0through9 and the letters A
through F in any combination.
Pleaserefertothefollowingchartfor some examples:

Note: When setting WEP keys for data encryption, all the wireless
clients and/or access points must use the same encryption key values.
For example, if you use Key 1 on your USB adapter and assigned a
certain value to it, then the same value must be assigned to Key 1 for
all the clients and/or access points in your wireless network.
Enabling WEP Encryption provides security to your wireless connection
andpreventsunauthorizedaccessto your network.
In order for the encryption to function correctly, both the target access
point/wireless client must use the same encryption settings. To enable
encryptionontheUSBadapter,performthe following steps:

Step 4 Select the WEP key that you want to use for encryption.
Step 5 Select the Authentication Type:
Open System: If your target wireless network uses Open System (Open
Key), your authentication request will always be accepted regardless or
your WEP keys. You are allowed to join the network as long as you
have the same SSID as the target wireless network.
Shared Key: If your target wireless network uses Shared Key, your
wireless adapter must be set to use the correct WEP key to pass the
authentication. You must use the identical WEP key as the target
wireless network to obtain connection.
Step 6 Click Submit to save and activate the settings.
