2.3 Safety instructions
This instrument is built and tested according to the current EU-directives and packed in technically safe condition.
In order to maintain this condition and to ensure safe operation, the user must follow the hints and warnings given
in this instruction.
During the installation the valid national rules must be observed. Ignoring the warnings may lead to severe personal
injury or substantial damage to property.
The product must be operated by trained staff. Correct and safe operation of this equipment is dependent on proper
transport, storage, installation and operation.
All electrical wiring must conform to local standards. In order to prevent stray electrical radiation, we recommend
twisted and shielded input cables, as also to keep power supply cables separated from the input cables. The con-
nection must be made according to the connecting diagrams.
Before switching off the supply voltage check the possible effects on other equipment and the processing system.
Ensure that the supply voltage and the conditions in the environment comply with the specification of the device.

to any welding. Load cells can remain mounted to system but BNC connectors must be disconnected from weighing

3) USER MANUAL
3.1 Introduction
This document describes the use of a MCE2535 Profibus-DP module as well as a MCE2035 Profibus-DP module
from Alfa Laval Kolding A/S, when they are equipped with the program listed on the front page.
The two module types are the same, except that MCE2035 modules as opposed to MCE2535 modules are encased
in their own module box. Connectors and the way in which the two module types are connected to power supply
etc., are therefore the only differences between the two module types. These differences will appear in the chapters
Connection of power and RS485 bus, while all other chapters will cover both MCE2535 as well as MCE2035 module
types. In the following the designation MCE2535 will due to the same reason cover both the MCE2535 and the
MCE2035 module, unless it is specified otherwise.
With the program specified on the front page, the MCE2535 Profibus-DP module can function as a slave on a RS485
bus, where it transfers 14 input bytes from the RS485 master to the Profibus master and 14 output bytes from the
Profibus master to the RS485 master.
It is possible to connect the MCE2535 Profibus-DP module to a Profibus-DP network, where it will act as a slave. It
will then be possible from the Profibus-DP master to transfer data to/from the RS485 master.
Data exchange on the RS485 bus is made at 9600/115200 bps with 8 databit, 1 stopbit and even parity. The com-
munication speed is determined by the jumper JU8.
3.2 Profibus-DP specification
The MCE2535 Profibus-DP module confirms to the following Profibus-DP specifications:
Protocol: Profibus-DP
Communications form: RS485
Module type: Slave
Baud rates [kbit/sec]: 9.6, 19.2, 93.75, 187.5, 500, 1500 , 3000, 6000, 12000
Profibus address: 0-127 (Sw2.2-Sw2.8)
Profibus connection: 9-pin sub-D (female) connector
3.3 Profibus-DP communication
The MCE2535 communication module is used solely for transmission of received data from the Profibus and the
RS485 bus. For a description of the specific data bytes please see the user manual for the RS485 master
(MCE9625).

4) INSTALLATION OF SYSTEM
4.1 Checklist during installation
During installation of the system the following should be checked:
1) The Profibus-DP master should be configured to communicate with the Profibus-DP module
(MCE2035/MCE2535) using the supplied GSD file. When configuring with the GSD file always select a
MCE2535 station type. This also applies for a MCE2035 module. Please refer to appendix for tips using the
supplied GSD file.
2) All hardware connections mentioned below are made as described depending on whether it is a MCE2035
module or a MCE2535 module.
3) The RS485 communication address of the Profibus-DP module is set using Sw1.1-Sw1.4.
4) The Profibus-DP module is connected to the Profibus-DP network, and possibly a termination is made at this
Profibus-DP slave.
5) The address of the Profibus-DP module is set using Sw2.2-Sw2.8. Power is applied and the Profibus-DP
communication is started.
6) Verify that the red LED (PBE) on the Profibus-DP module is NOT lit, and that the yellow LEDs (DES and
RTS) are lit/flashing. Verify that the TXBB and the D1 LED on the Profibus-DP module flashes.
The system is now installed and it is verified that the system behaves as it is expected.
Note that in the above checklist no consideration has been made on which functions are implemented on the Profi-
bus-DP master or the RS485 master.

5) HARDWARE DESCRIPTION
5.1 MCE2035/MCE2535 modul type designations
The Profibus-DP module is designated as either a MCE2035 module or a MCE2535 module. The two module types
are the same, except that MCE2035 modules as opposed to MCE2535 modules are encased in their own module
box. Connectors and the way in which the two module types are connected to power supply etc., are therefore the
only differences between the two module types. These differences will appear in the chapters Connection of power
and RS485 bus.
5.2 Connection of power and RS485 bus
This chapter describes the connection of power supply and the RS485 buss for a MCE2035 module and a MCE2535
module respectively.
5.2.1 MCE2035 Standard Connection
The 10 pole connector (J2) on the MCE2035 module is connected to the 10 pole connector on the MCE9601 con-
nection module using the supplied ribbon cable with mounted connectors. Through this bus cable connection of
power supply is achieved and connection to the RS485 master.

5.2.2 MCE2535 Standard Connection
The 14 pole connector (J7) on the MCE2535 module is connected to power supply and the RS485 master as shown
below. If the MCE2535 module is not supplied with +24VDC through this connector, this can be done through the 2
pole connector (J6) of the MCE2535 module instead.

5.3 DIP-switch settings
This chapter applies to Profibus-DP modules of both the MCE2035 and MCE2535 type.
The Profibus-DP module is equipped with a 4 pole DIP-switch block that has the following function:

Selection of RS485 communication address
The address is selected as the DIP-switches are binary coded, so that
Sw1.1 is MSB and Sw1.4 is LSB. Note that these switches are only
read during power on. The address should not be set so that the mod-
ule has an address that matches another Profibus module.

The address is selected as the DIP-switches are binary coded, so Sw2.2 is MSB

Light Emitting Diodes
This chapter applies to Profibus-DP modules of both the MCE2035 and MCE2535 type.
The Profibus-DP module is equipped with 6 light emitting diodes (LED). These LED’s have the following function:

5.5 JTAG connector
This chapter applies to Profibus-DP modules of both the MCE2035 and MCE2535 type.
The Profibus-DP module is equipped with an internal JTAG connector. The connector (J5) is used exclusively by Alfa
Laval Kolding A/S for download of software to the Cygnal processor.
5.6 RS232 connector
This chapter applies to Profibus-DP modules of both the MCE2035 and MCE2535 type. The Profibus-DP module is
equipped with an RS232 connector. The connector (J4) is used exclusively by Alfa Laval Kolding A/S for connection to
a PC for configuration/monitoring of the Profibus-DP module.
5.7 Profibus-DP connector
This chapter applies to Profibus-DP modules of both the MCE2035 and MCE2535 type.
The Profibus-DP module is equipped with a nine pole female sub-D connector (J1) for connection to the Profibus-
DP network. The connector is a standard Profibus-DP connector. Termination of the Profibus should take place in
the sub-D connector (male) of the cable. The specific terminals in the connector have the following function:

Note that some companies use different designations for the RS485-A and the RS485-B lines. Therefore the
polarity of the lines has been listed.
5.8 Hardware Selftest
This chapter applies to Profibus-DP modules of both the MCE2035 and MCE2535 type. During power-on the Profi-
bus-DP module will perform a hardware selftest. The test will cause the light emitting diodes D1, D2 and PBE to turn
on and off shortly, one at a time.

6) APPENDIX – PROFIBUS CONFIGURATION TIPS
6.1 GSD File
The supplied GSD file can be used to configure the PROFIBUS master (PLC) to communicate with the MCE2535
PROFIBUS unit.
When configuring the PROFIBUS master using the supplied GSD file please note the following tips.
6.1.1 Input/Output modules and data sizes
The amount of data exchanged between the PROFIBUS master and the MCE2535 PROFIBUS unit is specified in
the supplied GSD file.
The supplied GSD file for this application (see front page of this manual) specifies the input and output modules to
be used as follows:

The PROFIBUS master must be configured from the PROFIBUS configuration tool EXACTLY as follows:
1) First select one (and ONLY one) universal INPUT module of the above type specifying “14 Byte DI”.
2) Then select one (and ONLY one) universal OUTPUT module of the above type specifying “14 Byte
DO”.
3) Do NOT use any other kind of modules when configuring the PROFIBUS master.
This should configure the system to use 14 input bytes and 14 output bytes, corresponding to the figure shown
previously.
NOTE: Please beware that the terms “input” and “output” may be confusing and are used differently from vendor to
vendor. Throughout this manual, these terms are always from the PROFIBUS masters (PLC’s) point of view. There-
fore, the data from the MCE2535 unit to the PLC are referred to as “input” data, while the data from the PLC to the
MCE2535 unit are referred to as “output” data.

7) Recycling information
Unpacking
−Packing material consists of wood, plastics, cardboard boxes and in some cases metal straps.
−Wood and cardboard boxes can be re-used, recycled or used for energy recovery.
−Plastics should be recycled or burnt at a licensed waste incineration plant.
−Metal straps should be sent for material recycling.
Maintenance
−During maintenance, oil and wear parts in the machine are replaced.
−All metal parts should be sent for material recycling.
−Worn out or defective electronic parts should be sent to a licensed handler for material recycling.
−Oil and all non-metal wear parts must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
Scrapping
−At the end of use, the equipment must be recycled according to the relevant, local regulations. Besides
the equipment itself, any hazardous residues from the process liquid must be considered and dealt with in
a proper manner. When in doubt, or in the absence of local regulations, please contact your local Alfa
Laval sales company.
