Novus 1250T and P1250 UPS Safety Checklist
Only qualified personnel should service the UPS.
Carefully unpack the UPS and report any shipping damage at once.
Read this operator’s manual. If you have any questions about safe
installation,operationormaintenance,contactAlphaTechnologies.
Install the UPS upright in a well ventilated area.
Verify the UPS’s output voltage meets the voltage and current
requirements of the equipment to be protected. Do the same for the
line voltage and current input into the UPS.
The UPS should be installed on a dedicated, circuit breaker
equippedline.
Alert fire, emergency and service personnel a UPS is installed by
placing a warning label on the electrical panel and the host equip-
ment.
When connecting a load, make sure it does not draw more power
than the UPS provides.
Use proper lifting techniques when lifting the UPS (weight is 75 lbs,
34kg).
The UPS has more than one live circuit. Even if line power is not
present at the input, power can be present at the output.

Battery Safety Checklist
DANGER: Thebatterieshavehighenergyandchemicalhazards.
Thebattery compartment containsdangerousvoltages. Read this
manualfor safebatteryhandling, maintenanceand disposal
instructions.
Battery servicing should be done or supervised by personnel
trainedinhandlingofbatteriesandtherequiredprecautions.
When not in service, charge the batteries once every three months
foroptimumperformance andlonglife.
Batteries should be inspected yearly for signs of cracks, leaks or
swelling.
Always replace batteries with those of identical type and rating.
Never install old or untested batteries.
Proper disposal is required. Refer to local codes for procedures.
DANGER: Batteriesmayexplodeif burned. Do not open or
mutilate batteries. Electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes and
may be toxic.

Battery Compartment Safety Checklist
DANGER: The batteries are a shock risk. Observe these precau-
tions:
NOTE: The UPS is not turned off by turning the Battery Circuit
BreakerOFF.
Never let the front enclosure touch the battery terminals. A lethal
shock can result.
Before battery servicing remove all rings, watches and other
jewellery.
Use insulated tools when servicing the batteries or the UPS. Do not
lay tools on top of the batteries.
Do not let live battery wires touch the UPS’s chassis. Shorted
wires can cause a fire or explosion.
Wear insulated gloves and eye protection when servicing the
batteries.
Switch the battery circuit breaker OFF before connecting or discon-
nectingthe batteries.
DANGER:Lead–acidbatteriesgenerateHydrogengas,apotential
fire hazard. The following precautions must be followed:
Do not smoke, use fire or create sparks near them.
Touch a grounded metal surface before servicing the batteries to
discharge any static electricity.

7. EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN
The NOVUS UPS contains more than one live circuit. During
an emergency, line power may be disconnected, but power
will still be present at the UPS’s output.
To prevent injury to service or emergency personnel, always
turn the battery circuit breaker OFF.

WARNING: Never run the UPS at more than 100% of output
power(Section3.6.3).Overloadingcandamagetheinverter,
the batteries or the control electronics.
