Altus Pro Series — Operation Manual
INTRODUCTION
This manual should be used for the initial set up of the system and for
reference purposes.
General Information
The Altus Pro System is a high quality and affordable Alternating Pressure
Mattress (APM) system suitable for medium and high risk pressure ulcer
treatment. It has been designed to aid in the prevention of bed sores and
is an affordable solution to 24 hour pressure area care.
The Altus Pro System has been tested and certicated
to the following standards:
• ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1
• CAN/CSA C22.2 NO.6060 -1
• IEC 60601-1-11
Intended Use
The Altus Pro System is intended to reduce the incidence of pressure ulcers
while optimizing patient comfort. Great for the following:
• Individual homecare setting.
• Long term care.
• Pain management as prescribed by a physician.
Contraindication
Patient conditions for which this application of pressure relieving therapy
should not be used:
• Cervical or skeletal traction
• Unstable spinal cord injuries
NOTE
• These mattresses do not have AP or APG protection.
• Do not operate directly on the oor.
How Alternating Pressure Mattresses (APM) Work
The APM is designed to reduce interface pressure and aid in the treatment
and prevention of pressure ulcers/sores; specically patients with visible
pressure ulcers/sores falling under Stage 2 – 4. The pressure is created by
an alternating/variable pressure pump that pumps air into a mattress lled
with air cells. Each cell contains tiny holes allowing air to escape. This
function provides a continuous pressure relief environment while helping to
reduce heat and moisture from building up by allowing air to diffuse through
the mattress surface. These products are prescribed as a means to “treat”
pressure ulcers.

Altus Pro Series — Operation Manual
NOTE
• The audible LOW PRESSURE alarm will not be heard when inating the
mattress for the rst time.
• If the pressure does not reach the 10 mmHg pressure setting in
3.5 minutes after the pump is turned on, the audible alarm will start to
beep, and the LOW PRESSURE indicator will continue blinking.
• The user can then adjust to the desired rmness once the mattress
has been completely inated.
Pressure Adjustment
The pressure of the mattress can be set by pressing the Pressure Range
keys. There are a total of 8 different pressure levels to select from, ranging
from 10 to 25 mmHg. See page 5, option No. 1 for location and details.
Automatic pressure control
During normal operation, the Altus Pro will monitor pressure changes and
keep it at the set level. If the pressure drops below the set level, the blower
will automatically speed up to compensate and increase ination of the
mattress. When the set pressure level is reached, the pump will maintain.
NOTE
• If the pressure is consistently low, the alarm will beep and the indicator
light will turn on.
• If there as an obvious leakage (i.e. loose connection, hose disconnection,
cell puncture, etc.) the audible/visible alarms will be activated.
For Patients:
WARNING
• DO NOT use another pump other than the Altus Pro Pump supplied with
this mattress. It is dangerous to use a pump with pressure capacity over
120 mmHg. This may result in cell-puncture.
• DO NOT change any component by yourself. If replacement or repair
is needed, contact your local dealer or service center.
Mute: This button will silence the LOW PRESSURE alarm, but the indicator
will continue blinking. Re-pressing the MUTE button will re-activate the
audible alarm. To silence the POWER FAILURE alarm tone, press the
power switch to the off position.
Seat Mode: Press the SEAT button to achieve even support and 5 mmHg
higher pressure to prevent the patient from bottoming out when

CLEANING
In this section describes the procedures to clean and decontaminate the
APM System. It is important to follow these procedures before using the
system on patients.
Pump
• Do not immerse or soak pump in water.
• Check for external damage and move the pump to clean, at and level
work surface where you will be able to clean your Altus Pro Pump.
• Place the pump on the work surface
• Spray a cloth with a quaternary ammonium solution rst and wipe the
outside of the case and faceplate.
• DO NOT spray any cleaning solution directly on the surface.
• DO NOT use a Hypocarbonate or Phenolic based cleaning solution
as this may cause damage to the case.
• DO NOT allow excess cleaning solution on faceplate or control panel.
(If solution gets inside the pump, damage will occur.)
• Wipe with a clean cloth and make sure all areas are clean and dry
(top, bottom and both sides).
• After the pump is thoroughly cleaned and dried, proceed to plug in the
pump and test to see if it runs normally.
• Unplug the pump and store with proper identication tag.
Mattress
• Wipe down all surfaces with soap and water before using any
other disinfectant.
• Any obvious blood spots should be wet down thoroughly with a
1:9 Hypochlorite solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) and allow
to dry for at least 10 minutes. Then blot with a clean, damp cloth.
• The air cells are unsnapped from one side and are sprayed on all sides
with a disinfectant. Let it sit for the required incubation time and wipe
down with a clean cloth. (Make sure to disconnect all the air cells,
one by one, and spray the disinfectant on all sides, including all the
connecting tubes and hoses. Let it sit for least 10 minutes).
• If there is a base after you remove all the air cells, the base has to be
sprayed down with the disinfectant, inside and out. Let it sit for the
required incubation time and wipe down with a cloth.
• Repeat the process with the tubing set: spray, incubate, and then wipe
clean.
• Dry the mattress in a SUNLESS area after cleaning.
For your safety, the pump is equipped with a thermal shut-off in case of
overheating. If the unit stops, check that the fuses on the back of the pump
are still operative and replace if blown. Check that the filter is clean
and replace as necessary.
