Thetwo basemodels of this seriesdifferinthatthe-Bmodels arebinocular (two eyepiece

topforamicroscopecamera).

Safety Precautions
1.As themicroscopeis aprecision instrument,alwayshandleitwithcare,avoidingimpact or
abrupt movementduringtransportation.Donotshakethepackage.
2.Donotplacethemicroscopeindirectsunlight orinhigh heat.Keepitindoors in adryand
clean placewithtemperaturesbetween32-100degreesF(0-40degreesC),andinmaximum
relativehumidityof85%.
3.Avoidtouchingthelensesontheobjectivesand theeyepiecessothat oil anddirtfromyour
fingerprintsdonotobstruct yourview.
4.Beforeturningthepoweron,makesurethatthepowersupplyvoltageis consistentwiththe
voltageof yourmicroscope(forunitswithbuilt-inillumination).

Assembly
1) Takethestyrofoamcontainerout ofthecardboard carton andlayit on itsside,paying
attentiontowhich sideislabeledup.Removethetapeandopenthecontainercarefully
so as to avoiddroppingand damagingtheoptical items.Checkcarefullytoensurethat
all partsand accessoriesareintact.
2) Checkthepackinglisttoensurethatyou’rereceived allitems.Pleasenotethat this can
varydependingon whichmodelyou’vepurchased,andis generallylisted on
www.amscope.com attheitems’ detailspageforyourspecificmodel,ifforanyreason
you didnotgetoneincludedin yourpackage.
3) Note:Assemblyofthis itemassumesthatyoualreadyhaveastand andfocusingrackof
somekindto usethis head with.If so,takethemicroscopefromthepackagingand
placeitdown inthefocusingrackofyourstand.
4) Securethemicroscopehead inplacebytighteningthethumb screwatthefrontofthe
focusingrack,ifusingan AmScopefocusingrack.If usingyourown rackfromanother
brand,securetheheadwith whatevermechanisms areavailabletoyou.
5) Insertthedesiredeyepiecesintotheocularportsafterremovingthecaps.
6) Insertthetrinocular porttothetopofthemicroscopehead(SM745Tand-TP Models
only) byusingtheallen keytoloosenthetrinocular port screwonthesideofthe
openingring, then insertthedovetailof theport,beforetighteningbackdown tosecure
it.
7) Pluginthemicroscopeand turnon yourlightsource(orrefertoyourspecificlight
sourceinstructionsformounting/turningon ifan externalsource).
8) If viewingan opaquesample,useatop lightsource,howeverwhileusingatranslucent
sample,eitherlightsourcecan beused.

Setting Up
1. Onceyouhaveplacedyoursampleonthetableorbasebelowtheobjective,centerthe
sampleasbest as possible.Aslideis neitherneedednorrequiredforastereo
microscope,althoughtheycan beusedifdesired.If usingaslide,usethestageclipsto
holditinplace.
2. With both eyesopen,lookintotheeyepieces.Adjusttheinterpupillarydistanceby
holdingtheeyepiecetubesand rotatingtheeyepiecetubeseithertowardsorawayfrom
each otheruntilonlyonecircleoflight isseenbyboth eyes.
3. Adjust themagnificationknobtothelowestsetting(0.7)andmovethemicroscope’s
focusingknobs(onthefocusingrack)toadjusttheheightoftheunituntil at
approximately4 inchesawayfromthesample.Ifnotclear afteradjusting, pleasebe
surethat you havenotinstalledanyadditional Barlowlensesontotheobjective.
4. Centertheobjectinthefield of view onceyouhaveachieved focus.

Focusing
1. Astereo microscope’s focusdiffersfromacompoundmicroscopeduetothelower
magnificationlevels.Magnificationandfocal distance(workingdistance)areinversely
relatedtoeach other, likeacompoundmicroscope,howeverthefocal distancechanges
arefarmoredrastic. Themoremagnifiedoneis,thelowerthedistancebetweenthe
objectiveandthesampletoachievefocus,and viceversa.
2. Whenfirst usingthemicroscope,removeall Barlowlensesandsetthemagnification
knob (onthemicroscopehead)totheminimumsetting(0.7x).
3. Begin focusingthemicroscopebymovingtheknob untilthehead is about 4 inchesaway
fromthesample.This shouldbringthemicroscopeinfocusat7x.
4. If you’d liketousegreatermagnificationthantheminimumsetting, youwill needto
movethemicroscopehead closertothesampleaswell as adjustthemagnification knob
to ahighersetting.Themoremagnified,thecloseryouneedtobe.
Conversely,ifyouusealowermagnification setting, orareducingBarlow lens, you will
needto movethemicroscopeheadfurtherawayto focuson yoursample.

Attaching aCamera
1. TheSM745T and -TP models comewitha23.2mmtrinocularport.If theporthasbeen
attachedas outlinedintheassemblyinstructions,you can simplyslidethecamera into
this port.
Note:Ifusinga–Bmodel,you wouldremovetheeyepieceandusethatport instead,
whileusinga30.5mmto 23.2mm adapterringinserted intotheocular tubetoresizeit
foryourcamera.Manyof ourAmscopebrand23.2mm sized cameras comewiththis
ring, however, pleasecheckyourpackinglistforyourspecificcameratosee ifyours
comeswithoneornot.
2. If yourcamera has aC-mount,you caneitherusetheSKU:RU050 orSKU:CPC(bothsold
separately) toadaptittothis23.2mmportsizetoworkwith this microscopehead.
3. Note:IfyouhaveanSM745T,thereis asilvermetal pinonthelefthandsideofthe
microscopeheadwhichcontrolsthepositionofthelefteyepieceprism.This modelhas
a50/50splitwithitslight path,with50% ofthetotal lightbeingtransmittedto each
eyepiece,or, whentheslidingpinis pulled out,will redirectthelefteyepiece’s 50%to
thetrinocularport.This meansyou cannot view with both eyepiecesand thetrinocular
portatthesametime.
If youhaveaSM745TP,thenyouhaveasimul-focal model, whichdoesnothavethe
abovereferenced pin.Light goesto allthreeportssimultaneously,ina70/30 split(35%
to each eyepiece,andtheremaining30% tothetrinocularport). You canuseallthree
simultaneously,provided thefocal distancerequiredforyourcamera canbeadjustedto
matchthefocal distanceoftheeyepieces.Thisis possiblewithmostAmScopecameras
duetotheadjustabletrinocularport length.

Adjusting Focusing Tension
1. To adjustthetensionofthefocusingknobs,grab both sidesofthefocusingknoband
twist themoppositeof each other.
2. To decreasetension,rotateintheoppositedirectionoftheabove.Typically,adding
tension isdonebyrotatingtherightknob clockwiseand theleft counterclockwise,so
theoppositewouldhold trueifreleasingtension (if itis toohardto adjustthefocal
height,forexample).
Note:Ifyourfocusingrack/head isslippingdown,you likelyneedto increasethetension.
Pleasereferto yourinstructionsforyourrack.

Maintenance/Precautions
- All glasssurfacesmustbekept clean.Finedust ontheoptical surfaceshouldbeblown off
usingahandblowerorgentlywipedoff with asoft lenspapertissue/nonabrasivelintfree
cloth.
- Carefullywipeoffoil orfingerprintsonthelenssurfacesusingtissuemoistened with asmall
amountof lenscleaner(werecommend Sparklebrand opticalcleaner).
- Do notuseSparkletoclean otherelementsofthemicroscope.Useaneutral detergenton any
plasticorpaintedsurfaces.
- Do notassembleordisassemblethemicroscope’s electricalcomponentsyourself without
advisementfromoneofourtechnicians.Doingsowill void yourwarrantyunless byadvisement
of oneofourtechnicianstodoso.
- Afteruse,coverthemicroscopewiththeprovided dustcover.
- Keep yourAmScopemicroscopein adry,clean locationinordertoprevent rustorother
damages.

Calculatedby nSin α(max),theNumericalAperture(N.A)is an importantparameterthat marks
thefeaturesoftheobjectiveand condenser’s imagequality and resolution. The“n”is a
refractiveindexof themedium(airor immersioncedar oil)betweentheobjectivelensand the
specimen.The“α”is 1/2 of theanglebetweentheapertureon theobjectiveand pathof light.
