Whentransportingortemporarilystoringthebattery,thetemperaturerange
shouldbefromapproximately40–100°F.Donotstorethebatteryormodelina
hotgarage,carordirectsunlightwheneverpossible.Ifstoredinahotgarageor
carthebatterycanbedamagedorevencatchfire.
Donotover‐dischargetheLiPoflightbattery.DischargingtheLiPoflightbattery
toolowcancausedamagetothebatteryresultinginreducedpower,flight
durationorfailureofthebatteryentirely.
LiPocellsshouldnotbedischargedtobelow3.0Veachunderload.Inthecaseof
the1‐Cell/1S3.7VLiPobatteryusedtopowertheEthosQX130youwillnotwant
toallowthebatterytofallbelow3.0Vduringflight.
The5‐in‐1controlunitfeaturesalowvoltagecutoff(LVC)thatcutspowertothe
motorscompletely(regardlessofthepowerlevelyouhavesetwiththeleft‐
hand/throttlestick)ifthevoltageofthebatteryfallsbelowthe3.0Vminimum.If
theLVCeveroccursitwillbeindicatedbyablinkingredLEDonthecontrolunit
(theLEDsoftheintegratedlightsystemwillalsoblink).However,topreventan
unexpectedlossofpowerduetotriggeringtheLVC,ifyoueverfindthatmore
thanthetypicalamountofthrottle/powerisrequiredtohoverand/orthe
quadcopterwillnotascend/climbevenatfullpoweryoushouldlandthemodel
anddisconnectthebatteryimmediatelytopreventover‐discharge.
AndwhileitispossibletopowerthemodelupandflyagainaftertheLVCoccurs
thisisNOTrecommended.Continueddischargingcancausepermanentdamage
totheLiPobatteryresultinginreducedpoweroutputand/orshortenedflight
durationsduringsubsequentflights(orfailureofthebatteryentirely).
Also,itisnotrecommendedthatyouflytotheLVCeverytimeyoufly.Instead
youshouldbeawareofthepowerlevelofthebattery/quadcopterthroughout
theflight,andifatanytimethequadcopterbeginstorequiremore
throttle/powerthantypicaltomaintainhover,and/orwillnotascend/climbeven
atfullpower,youshouldlandthequadcopteranddisconnecttheLiPobattery
immediately.ConstantlydischargingthebatterytotheLVCcanstillcause
permanentdamagetothebatterysoit’sbesttouseatimerorstop‐watchto
timethedurationofyourflightsandtostopflyingatareasonabletimebefore
theLVCisreached.

ConnecttheredJSTconnectoronthebatterytothematingconnectoronthecharger.YOU
MUSTBECAREFULTOENSUREPROPERPOLARITYBEFOREMAKINGTHECONNECTION.By
orienting/aligningthewireleadsofthebatteryandchargersothey’re‘redtored’and
‘blacktoblack’you’llbeabletomaketheconnectionwithcorrectpolarity.Andalthough
theredJSTconnectorsare‘keyed’tominimizetheriskofareversepolarityconnection,ifyou
forcethemitispossibletomakeconnectionwiththeincorrectpolaritypotentiallycausing
damagetothebatteryand/orcharger.Whentheconnectorsareproperlyalignedforcorrect
polarity,connectingthemshouldrequireonlyamoderateamountofpressuretoachievethe
‘click’thatindicatesasecureconnection.

WhenthebatteryisconnectedtothechargersecurelyandwiththeproperpolaritytheLED
indicatorwillglowsolidred.ThebatterywillbecharginganytimetheLEDindicatorisglowing
solidred.
Itwilltakeapproximately1.0–1.5hourstofullychargeamostlyorfullydischarged(notover‐
discharged)battery.AndwhenthebatteryisfullychargedtheLEDindicatorwillchangeto
glowsolidgreen.WhentheLEDisglowingsolidgreenyoucandisconnectthebatteryfrom
thechargerasitisnowfullychargedandreadyforuse.
NOTE:TheLiPobatteryincludedwithyournewmodelwillarrivepartiallycharged.Forthis
reasontheinitialchargemayonlytakeapproximately30–45minutes.
NOTE:It’ssaferandbetterforthelongevityofthebatterytostoreitonlypartiallychargedfor
anylengthoftime.Storingthebatteryatapproximately50%charge(whichisapproximately
3.85Vpercell)istypicallybest,however,itwilltakesomecarefulmanagementofthecharge
timeandtheuseofavoltmetertoachievethisvoltage.Ifyouhavetheequipmentandskillsto
achievethe50%chargelevelforstorageitisrecommended.Ifnot,simplybesuretonotstore
thebatteryfullychargedwheneverpossible.Infact,aslongasthebatterywillbestoredat
approximatelyroomtemperatureandfornomorethanafewweeksbeforethenextuse,itmay
bebesttostorethebatteryinthedischargedstateafterthelastflight(aslongasthebatterywas
notover‐dischargedonthelastflight).
InstallthefourincludedAAbatteriesinthebackofthetransmitterbyopeningthehingedbattery
compartmentcover/door.Ensureproperpolarityofthebatteriesbeforeinstallingthemasindicated
bythemarkingsmoldedintothebatterycompartmentthenclosethecompartmentcover/door.
CheckforproperoperationofthetransmitterbyslidingthepowerswitchtotheONposition(slideit
upward).TheredLEDindicatoratthetopofthetransmitterwillbegintoglowsolidandtheLCD
screenwillpoweron.ThisindicatesthetransmitterispoweredonandtheAAbatteriesareinstalled
correctly.

Mode1/Mode2SelectionSwitch
The4HPQtransmitterisequippedwithauniqueMode1/Mode2selectionswitchthatmakesit
quickandeasytosetthepreferredcontrolmode.InmostareasMode2(withthethrottle
channel/controlontheleft‐handstick)isthestandardandpreferredcontrolmode.Asaresult
wedonottypicallyrecommendusingthemodeselectionswitch(andalloftheinformation
includedinthisinstructionmanualpertainstoMode2).
However,ifyouchoosetousetheswitchtochangethecontrolmodeitisveryimportantthat
youonlychangethepositionoftheswitchwhenboththequadcopterandtransmitterare
NOTpoweredon.Whenthepositionoftheswitchischangeditchangesboththecontrolmode
inthesoftwareandthemechanicalfunctionoftheleftandright‐handsticks.

ThrottleChannelTrimPositionIndicator
Thisindicatorshowstheapproximatethrottlechanneltrimposition.Thetrimshouldbesetto
themiddlepositionforallflights.
RudderChannelTrimPositionIndicator
Thisindicatorshowstheapproximaterudderchanneltrimposition.Thetrimpositionshouldbe
adjustedasneededduringflighttoensurethenoseofthequadcopterdoesnotconstantlyturn
(yaw)leftorrightwhen‘hovering’andwithoutanyrudderchannel/controlinput.
ElevatorandAileronChannelTrimPositionIndicators
Theseindicatorsshowtheapproximateelevatorandaileronchanneltrimpositions.Thetrim
positionsshouldbeadjustedasneededduringflighttoensurethequadcopterdoesnot
constantly‘drift’forward/backward(elevator)orleft/right(aileron)whenhoveringandwithout
anycorrespondingchannel/controlinput.Thesetrimpositionswillnotoftenchangeafter
they’vebeensetcorrectly.
The‘DUALRATE’button(locatednearthetopright‐handcornerofthetransmitter)isusedtothe
togglebetweenthe‘High’(100%)and‘Low’(60%)controlrates,alsoknownas‘DualRates’,available
fortheaileronandelevatorcontrols/channels.Youcantogglebetweenthehighandlowratesby
pressingthebutton,afterwhichyoushouldfeela‘click’andalsohearanaudiblebeep/tone.The
selectedcontrolratewillbedisplayedas‘100%’forhighrateand‘60%’forlowrateontheLCD
screen.
IMPORTANTNOTE:Thetransmitterwillautomaticallydefaulttothe‘Low’(60%)ratemode
eachtimethetransmitterispoweredon.

Bypressingthedualratebuttonwhileinthe100%/highratemodeyou’llswitchtothe60%/low
ratemode.You’llknowyou’veswitchedtothe60%/lowratemodeafterfeelinga‘click’and
hearingasinglebeep/tone.
The60%/lowratemodeistypicallypreferredby(andrecommendedbestfor)first‐time,low‐

Theleft‐handstickonthetransmittercontrolsboththrottle(climb/descend)andrudder(yaw
left/right)channels.Whentheleft‐handstick(alsoknownasthe‘throttle’stick)isinthelowest
possiblepositionthepropellers/rotorbladeswillnotspin.Movingthestickupwardwillincreasethe
speedofthepropellers/rotorblades.Increasingthespeedofthepropellers/rotorbladeswillcause
themodeltoclimb.
Decreasingthespeedofthepropellers/rotorbladesbyloweringtheleft‐handstickwillcausethe
modeltodescend.
Afterliftingthemodeloffthegroundyoucan‘hover’bycarefullymovingtheleft‐handstickupand
downslightlyasneededsothemodelwillmaintainaltitudewithoutclimbingordescending.

Theright‐handstickcontrolsboththeelevator(pitchfore/aft)andaileron(roll)channels.Pushingthe
stickforwardwillpitchthenoseofthequadcopterdownward,allowingittobeflownforward.
Pullingthestickbackwardwillpitchthetailthequadcopterdownward,allowingittobeflown
backward.
Theelevatortrimlever(locatedimmediatelytotheleftoftheright‐handstick)canbeusedtohelp
keepthequadcopterfromdriftingforwardorbackwardwhenhoveringandwithnoright‐hand
stick/elevatorcontrolinput.Forexample,ifthequadcopterdriftsforwardwhenhoveringadd
back/upelevatortrimbypressingtheleverdownwarduntilthequadcopterhoversaslevelas
possiblewithoutdriftingforward.

Theailerontrimlever(locatedimmediatelybelowtheright‐handstick)canbeusedtohelpkeepthe
quadcopterfromdriftingleftorrightwhenhoveringandwithnoright‐handstick/aileroncontrol
input.Forexample,ifthequadcopterdriftstotherightwhenhoveringaddleftailerontrimby
pressingthelevertotheleftuntilthequadcopterhoversaslevelaspossiblewithoutdriftingtothe
right.

AftertheLiPoflightbatteryhasbeenfullychargedit’sreadytobeinstalledinthequadcopter.With
thesideofthebatterythathasthelabelorienteddownward(towardthegroundandawayfromthe
quadcopter),andwiththewireleadsandconnectororientedtowardsthebackofthequadcopter,
slidethebatteryintothebatterymountuntiltheplastic‘cap’onthebatterycomesintocontactwith
themount.
IMPORTANTNOTE:It’simportantthatyouconnecttheLiPoflightbatterytothe5‐in‐1controlunit
within5secondsofpoweringonthetransmitter.Failuretoconnectthebatterytothecontrolunit
within5secondsofpoweringonthetransmitterwillpreventthetransmitterfrombinding/linking
tothereceiver/controlunit.
NOTE:Whilethe‘JST’connectorsinstalledonthewireleadsofthebatteryandthe5‐in‐1controlunit
are‘keyed’tominimizetheriskofareversepolarityconnection,ifyouforcethemitispossibleto
makeconnectionwithincorrectpolaritypotentiallycausingdamagetothecontrolunitand/or
battery.Whentheconnectorsareproperlyalignedforcorrectpolarity,connectingtheJSTconnectors
shouldrequireonlyaminimalamountofpressuretoachievethelight‘click’thatindicatessecure
connection.
