1 DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1.1 Product description and operation
1.1.1 Features
DW Weatherproof Digital Call Station is the subscriber equipment to use at industrial
and transportation enterprises within digital Intercom and Public Address /General Alarm
(PA/GA) communication systems DCN and IPN manufactured by Armtel, Russia.
DW is designed for outdoor use at industrial and transport facilities under harsh
operating conditions including/ or for areas with high humidity and noise levels, dirt or dust
levels.
DW has a modular design, composed of robust and chemically resistant enclosure
which can locate from 1 to 3 functional modules and an auxiliary integrated amplifier. The
version of the unit may differ depending on modules and auxiliary amplifier installed.
Possible versions of DW unit are given in Table 1. The external appearance of DW functional
modules are shown in 1.2.
The design and material of the DW housing have impact and chemical resistance. The
DW housing is made of the specified TETRADUR F4401-2004 fiberglass-reinforced polyester
resin, which is resistant to solar ultraviolet radiation.
To ensure the protection degree IP66 of DW unit, rubber seals are placed under the
cover, loudspeaker and microphone, two-way toggles and cable glands. Key modules,
keypad modules and modules "SOS" and "INFO" are also sealed with rubber gaskets.

DW can operate only under control of the central exchange of the communication
systems DCN or subscriber module IPN-8U, and it is unable to perform any functions without
connection to the communication system via the digital Uk0-interface.
Being incorporated in the digital communication systems, DW can provide the following
functions (refer to Operating limits 2.1.2):
−Two-way intercom communication in simplex mode using integrated speaker
and microphone, or external microphone with push-to-talk key and direct keys
with LED indication.
−Loud-speaking voice communication in “half-duplex” mode with duplex devices
like telephone sets.
−Duplex communication with duplex devices like telephone sets in versions
RMLT.465311.002-06, -07, -08, -23, -24, -25 using a dial pad and a handset.
−Duplex loud-speaking function with the integrated speaker and microphone.
−Group call using the programmed keys or keypad.
−Public address and General Alarm voice announcement for multiple zones.
−Launch and transmission of alarm signals, alerts and other pre-recorded messages
for individual subscribers and a group of subscribers.
−Processing of connections priority with indication of the second incoming call.
−Indication of the subscribers’ state on direct keys (incoming and outgoing
connections, busy signaling, second incoming call and unanswered call).
−Indication of a malfunction on the call keys of the associated device when the
communication with this unit is missing.
−Transmission of incoming audio messages through an auxiliary amplifier and an
external speaker.
−Control of an external alarm device with the built-in relay.
The complete structure of DW functions performed, their implementation and
configuration features may differ depending on the type of the communication system, its
configuration and software version. DW programming is executed using the DCN, IPN
system administrator's software. Description of the features of DW application in the systems
IPN 1.1 and DCN, as well as programming techniques are given in the Administration manual
for these systems.

Figure 1 – External appearance of DW
DW consists of case (12) and a cover (11). he cover is attached to the case with six
captive screws (9).
DW case design and material provide impact and chemical resistance. The DW body is
made from a specified fiberglass-reinforced polyester resin that is resistant to solar UV
radiation.
In the upper part of the cover there is horn loudspeaker (1) and microphone (3). Under
the horn loudspeaker there is enclosure (2) for placing in it an insert with the number (name)
assigned to the given DW in the communication network. The loudspeaker has a diaphragm
that is resistant to moisture and vapors of aggressive chemicals. A special microphone with
a narrow directivity pattern and a small sensitivity zone improves the selectivity of the sound

path. The loudspeaker and microphone are protected from mechanical damage and direct
ingress of small particles and water by shaped grilles.
In the lower part of the cover there are compartments for removable modules, which
contain from one to three modules of the following types:
two-way toggle module (4);
pushbuttons (6);
holder with reed switch (15) and handset (14);
dial pad (16);
SOS Pushbutton (17);
INFO Pushbutton (18);
information module (19).
The set of modules is determined by the product version (see table 1). Dummy plugs (7)
are installed instead of missing modules.
Note - The loudspeaker and the microphone module are fixed on the inner surface of
the cover, and the modules are fixed on the outside.
The use of non-contact (optical) pairs as sensing elements for key switches prevents
sparks and poor contact due to corrosion. Modules of buttons, keyboards, as well as
modules "SOS" and "INFO" are sealed with rubber gaskets.
Through cable glands (8) located on the bottom edge of the case, cables are inserted
into the case to connect DW to the power supply and to the communication line.
The cable gland (13) is for connecting an external microphone.
To ensure the degree of protection DW IP66, rubber sealing gaskets are installed under
the cover, loudspeaker and microphone, switch mechanisms and cable glands.
The above features of the DW design allow the product to be operated in open space
and (or) at facilities with high levels of humidity, noise, dustiness and temperature, the
presence of smoke, corrosive gases and chemical vapors in the air.

1.1.5 DW case
Inside the DW housing (see Figure 2), chassis (1) is fixed on the racks, on which,
depending on the version, either only the DWEx board (2) or the DWEx board (2) and the
25 W amplifier (4) are installed. The terminal block (3) is fixed to the rail.
The electromechanical relay installed on the DWEx board is intended for switching with
incoming calls to external devices, such as a light signal device (not included in the scope of
supply). The operating mode of the relay is determined by its configuration parameters. The
following modes of the relay operation are possible:
−the relay is not activated during a call;
−the relay is always activated when an incoming call comes in (default mode);
−the relay is activated when the first call comes in, and is turned off after the sub-
scriber answers. Re-enable after the lock interval of 15 seconds.

On the inside of the cover, in addition to the loudspeaker and microphone, a DW-BC
board (3, Figure 3) is installed.

Figure 3 – DW cover
The DW-BC board is designed to configure DW, as well as to connect and configure
an external microphone. The DWEx board and the DW-BC board are interconnected by
wires (10, Figure 1), which ensure their interaction and functioning in the communication
system.
The external view of the DW-BC board is shown in Figure 4.
