- Battery pack (when installed in K011)
●Do not use in places subject to lots of dust or vibration.
■
■
●Clean the external connection jack/charging terminals with dry cotton swabs,
etc. every now and then. Soiled terminals might cause poor connection. Do
not exert a strong force to clean the connection terminals to prevent
deformation and scratching.
●Clean the product with a soft dry cloth. Do not wipe the product using
benzene, thinner, alcohol, detergent, etc., which might affect the outer casing
or printing.
●Use as far away as possible from land-line phones, TVs and radios. Use
nearby might affect them.
●The K011 may become warm while calling, watching TV (1Seg), connected
to EZweb, messaging, or while charging or during other operations,
depending on the situation, but this is not abnormal.
●Turn off the power before removing the battery pack. If you remove the battery
pack with the power on, saved data might be altered or lost.
●When the product is used by a child, to avoid hazards, parents or guardians
should thoroughly read the “Instruction Manual” (this manual) and teach the
child how to use it. Also make sure that the child is using it as instructed.
K011 main unit
●Do not remove the stickers printed with the serial numbers on the au cell
phone (visible when the battery pack is removed). These stickers prove that
the au cell phone is permitted under the Wireless Telegraphy Act and
Telecommunications Operations Act.
●Note that mail and downloaded data (both charged or free content) saved on
the au cell phone cannot be returned to the customer when the au cell phone
is replaced with another au cell phone for model upgrade, repair of a fault,
etc.
●Although the display used on the K011 is made using high-precision
technology, some pixels (dots) might be lit or out at all times. This is not a
malfunction.
●Take care not to inconvenience people around you when you use the product
in a public place.

13
Safety Precautions/Notes on water resistance
●Do not forcefully press, tap or intentionally subject the display to strong
impact. Doing so might cause scratching or damage.
●Take care that hard objects do not rub against and scratch the display or
camera lens.
●When you put the product in your pocket or bag, take care so that the
display does not come in contact with metal objects or other hard objects.
Also, be careful not to scratch or damage the display by using a strap whose
metal or other hard part comes in contact with the display.
●The display may appear dark or warped depending on the angle if viewed
while wearing polarized sunglasses or similar eyewear.
●When hearing the other party’s voice, make sure that the earpiece is placed
at the center of your ear. If the earpiece (audio output port) is closed by the
ear lobe, it may be hard to hear the voice.
●When suddenly brought into a warm indoors place from a cold outdoors
place, or when in a humid location, water droplets (i.e. condensation)
sometimes are formed inside the product. Note that when used under
conditions such as this, humidity might cause corrosion or a fault.
●Do not leave the cell phone near air conditioning vents. Condensation from a
sudden temperature change may corrode the inside of the cell phone and
cause malfunction.
●Do not place stickers on the display/key side of the cell phone. After closing
the main unit, the keys, etc. may be pressed and cause misoperation, or key
operations while closed may be unavailable or usable time may be
shortened. The K011 may also be damaged.
●Trying to press keys while data is playing back may cause unusual operation
such as data pausing.
●Continuously displaying the monitor screen during photography or
continuous video recording, use of EZweb, etc. for extended periods
repeatedly causes main unit components to become warm, and may result in
low-temperature burns with prolonged skin contact.
●Placing a strong magnet close to the product might cause malfunction.
●To prevent unauthorized use in case of theft or loss, the K011 is locked so that it
cannot be used unless the legitimate user's au IC-Card is inserted. If the user is
changed to some other person, the new user should bring the au IC-Card to an
au shop or PiPit. Note that a fee is charged for ownership change.
●Surrounding brightness is detected by the optical sensor (page 26). Take care
not to cover it with your fingers.
●Be careful not to scratch the surface coating by dropping the main unit, etc. If
adhesion of water, etc. to the damaged surface area is prolonged, the surface
coating might peel off.
●There may be some difficulty in viewing the sub-display of the K011 in bright
places such as in the open air or under fluorescent lights, but this is not a
malfunction.
●Do not discard the product together with regular trash. Please cooperate in the
collection of the product when it is no longer needed to protect the environment
and effectively use resources. Old products are collected at au shops and other
places.
●When using handsfree call, take care to keep the speaker at a safe distance
from your ears, as the speaker volume may be too loud.
Battery pack
●Use in very hot or cold environments, for example, when left in an automobile
with the windows closed in summer, will cause the battery capacity to drop
and shorten the available battery usage time. This will also shorten the
battery pack's service life. Try to use the battery pack as far as possible at
room temperature.
●When the battery pack is not to be used for a long time, remove the battery
pack from the main unit, and store it in a battery pack case away from hot
and humid places (a battery pack case is included with an additional battery
pack (sold separately)).
Data stored in the K011 may be lost if left uncharged for an extended time.
●Charge the battery pack before using the product for the first time after
purchase, or if you have not used the product for a long time (the battery
pack may become warm during charging, but this is not a malfunction).
●The battery pack is a consumable item. If the performance of a battery pack
does not recover after charge or is bulging, the battery pack is at the end of
service life, so buy a new one of the specified type. Note that the length of
service life varies depending on the usage condition, etc.
●Do not discard battery packs together with regular trash. Please cooperate in
the collection of used battery packs to protect the environment and
effectively use resources. au shops and other retailers collect used battery
packs.
●Battery packs sometimes swell up as they approach the end of their service
life. This is due to the properties of lithium-ion batteries, and is not a problem
in terms of safety.

■Common precautions
• Firmly close the cover of the external connection jack, and firmly attach the
battery cover after checking that the rubber seal on the underside is positioned
correctly. A caught particle (lint, a hair, grain of sand, etc.), no matter how
small, may result in seepage.
• Do not insert pointed objects in gaps around the cover of the external
connection jack or battery cover. Doing so might damage the rubber seals and
cause seepage.
• Do not open/close the cover of the external connection jack or remove/attach
the battery cover while wearing gloves. A caught particle (lint, a hair, grain of
sand, etc.) on the gloves, no matter how small, may result in seepage.
• Before opening/closing the cover of the external connection jack or removing/
attaching the batter cover, check that there is no wetting, sand, soiling, etc. on
the cell phone or your hands. Wetting, sand, soiling, etc. on them may enter the
cell phone or become caught under the covers and cause malfunction or
seepage. If even a small amount is present, wipe cell phone and hands with a
lint-free, clean, dry cloth before working.
