This installation is designed for cars, trucks, vans, and boats that have an existing radio opening that is
no larger than the size shown on the template provided (182mm wide x 53mm high). If the opening is
smaller than required, you can use a file to enlarge it to match the template, using theslots on the template
as a guide. If you have no existing radio opening, use the template to accurately cut the required size
as per the slots on the template.
CAUTION: 1. DO NOT CUT OR FILE THE OPENING TO THE OUTER EDGES OF THE TEMPLATE!
2. FOR PROPER OPERATION OF THE CD PLAYER, THE CHASSIS MUST BE WITHIN 20° OF
HORIZONTAL. MAKE SURE THE UNIT IS MOUNTED WITHIN THIS LIMITATION.
1. Inspect the Existing Radio Opening:
A. Use the radio opening template (supplied) to make sure the dashboard opening is the proper size.
If your vehicle does not have an existing opening of this size, it will be necessary to cut or file the
opening to these dimensions.
B. Check that there will be sufficient space behind the dashboard for the radio chassis.
2. PreparetheRadioforinstallation:
A. Carefully check the radio chassis for any shipping screws that are labeled "Remove Before
Installation" and remove them as necessary.
B. Remove the detachable front panel if it is attached to the chassis, as explained in the Operating
Instructions section of this manual.
C. Using the 2 removal tools (supplied), remove the mounting sleeve from the radio chassis as shown
in the diagram below.
3. Mounting the Radio Sleeve:
A. Check the dashboard opening size by sliding the mounting sleeve into it. If the opening is not large
enough, carefully cut or file as necessary until the sleeve easily slides into the opening. Do not
force the sleeve into the opening or cause it to bend or bow.
B. Locate the series of bend tabs along the top, bottom, and sides of the mounting sleeve. With the
sleeve fully inserted in the dashboard opening, bend as many of the tabs outward as necessary
so that the sleeve is firmly secured to the dashboard.

4. Wire the Radio to the Vehicle's Wiring:
A. Place radio in front of dashboard opening so that wiring can be brought through the mounting sleeve.
B. Carefully follow the diagrams on pages 8 and 9 to wire the radio, making certain all connections
are secure and insulated with wire nuts or electrical tape to insure proper operation of the unit.
C. After completing the wiring, re-attach the front panel to the chassis and turn the unit on to confirm
operation (ignition switch must be "on"). If unit does not operate, re-check all wiring until problem
is corrected.
D. Once proper operation is achieved, turn off ignition switch, remove front panel, and proceed with
final mounting of the radio.

A. Carefully slide the radio into the mounting sleeve until it is fully seated and the side spring clips snap
in place.
B. Attach one end of the perforated strap (supplied) to the screw stud on the rear of the radio using
the hex nut provided.
C. Fasten the other end of the perforated strap to a secure part of the dashboard either above or below
the radio using the screw and hex nut provided.
CAUTION: The rear of the radio must be supported with the strap to prevent possible damage to the
dashboard from the weight of the radio or improper operation of the radio due to vibration.
D. Re-attach the front panel to the chassis and check operation of the unit by referring to the Operating
Instructions section of this manual.
6. Removing the Radio:
A. Should it be necessary to remove the radio for servicing or other reasons, first remove the
detachable front panel.
B. Remove the rear support strap by taking off the hex nut securing it to the screw stud on the rear
of the chassis.
C. Use the 2 removal tools (supplied) to disengage the side spring clips and pull the radio out of the
mounting sleeve.

secured by screws and/or snap-in clips.
B. Remove the two large screws used to secure radio to the sub-dashboard.
Helpful Hint: If you do not have an existing radio, you will find the radio opening is covered by a
disposable cover plate.
C. Pull the radio forward to access the wiring and antenna cables plugged into the rear of the chassis.
D. Un-plug the wiring harness(es) and antenna cable and remove the radio.

A. Following the instructions included with the installation kit, secure the sleeve from the radio to the
mounting plate from the kit as explained on page 3.

C. Replace the dashboard trimpanel.
D. Following the instructions of steps 4 and 5 on page 4, carefully wire the radio and complete
installation into the mounting sleeve.

1ON-OFF SWITCH/VOLUME CONTROL
Rotate this knob clockwise to turn the radio on.
Continuerotation untilthedesiredvolumelevel
is obtained. Rotate the knob fully counter-
clockwise to turn the unit off.
2LEFT / RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
(PUSH)
Push this knob inward and rotate it to the left or
right to obtain the desired balance between left
and right speakers. A detent click can be felt at
the center of rotation. The knob will automati-
cally return to the outer position (volume con-
trol) when released.
3FRONT/REAR FADER CONTROL
Rotate this knob to the left or right to fade the
sound between the front and rear speakers in
4 speaker installations. A detent click can be
felt at the center of rotation. When used in
conjunction with the Left/Right Balance Con-
trol 2, you have full 4-way stereo balance
capability. In 2 speaker installations, rotating
the Fader Control will have no effect on the
speaker output.
4TREBLE CONTROL
Rotate this knob clockwise to increase treble
response,counter-clockwisetodecreasetreble
response. A detent click can be felt at the
center of rotation (flat setting).
5BASS CONTROL
Push this knob inward and rotate it clockwise to
increase bass response, counter-clockwise to
decrease bass response. A detent click can be
felt at the center of rotation (flat setting). The
knob will automatically return to the outer posi-
tion (treble control) when released.
6FM/AM BAND SELECTOR
Eachtime this buttonis pressed, theradio band
is changed. The indication “AM”, “FMI”, or
“FMII” will appear on the display panel accord-
ing to your selection.

7MANUAL UP/DOWN TUNING ( / )
AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING
Eachtime the side ofthisbuttonis pressed,
the radio will tune one frequency step higher.
Similarly, each press of the side of the
button will tune one frequency step lower. To
manually tune in a station, press the button in
the appropriate direction until the desired fre-
quency is reached.
Pressing either side of the button for longer
than 0.5 seconds will activate the Automatic
Seek Tuning function in the selected direction
(as indicated by “UP” or “dO” on the display
panel). The radio will seek the next available
station and stop on that frequency.
8PRE-SET SCAN TUNING (PS)
AUTO-STORE TUNING (AS)
During radio operation, press this button to
scan the 6 stations pre-set into the memories
of the band in use. The unit will stop at each
pre-set station for 5 seconds before continuing
to the next pre-set station (the preset number
on the display panel will flash during Pre-Set
Scan operation). Press the button again to
stop the Pre-Set Scan operation and remain
on the selected frequency.
Pressing the button for longer than 2 seconds
will activate the Auto-Store Tuning, which will
automatically scan the band and enter strong
stations into the pre-set memory positions for
that band (FMI and FMII bands if activated
during FMI band use). If you have already set
the pre-set memories of that band to your
favoritestations, activating the Auto-Storefea-
turewillerase those stations andenterthe new
strong stations. The feature is most useful
when travelling in a new area where you are
not familiar with the local stations.
9STATION PRE-SET MEMORIES
To set any of the 6 pre-set memory buttons,
use the following procedure:
1. Turnthe unit onand select the desiredband.
2. Select the first station to be pre-set using the
Manual or Seek Tuning functions 7.
3. Press the pre-set button in until the number
of that pre-set button appears on the display
panel. Thestationisnowsetintothememory
of that pre-set button and can be re-called
by pressing the button momentarily.
4. Repeat the above procedure for the remain-
ing 5 pre-sets on the band in use and for the
other 2 bands of the unit.
bl LOCAL/DISTANT SELECTOR (LO)
During radio operation, this button is used to
select the “stop sensitivity” in the Automatic
Seek tuning mode. For the Local mode, press
the button so that the “LO” indication appears
onthedisplaypanel. In this mode, the radio will
only stop on strong local stations during Auto-
matic Seek operation. Press the button again
to select the Distant mode (“LO” will disappear
from the display panel), allowing the unit to
stop on a wider range of stations, including
weaker distant ones.
bmFMMONO/STEREOSELECTOR (ST)
During FM radio operation, this button is used
toselectmono or stereo reception of thebroad-
cast signal. Under normal reception condi-
tions, the unit should be left in the stereo mode,
indicated by “ST” on the display panel when a
stereo signal is being received. If the stereo
signal is too noisy for comfortable listening,
presstheMono/Stereoselector button bmto
switch to mono reception.

bnAUTO-RADIOTUNING(ART)
By pressing this button and activating this
function (indicated by “ART” on the display
panel), the radio will automatically tune to a
strong listenable station if the station it is tuned
to becomes too weak and noisy for clear
reception. This feature is most useful when
traveling in fringe reception areas.
boLIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel dis-
plays the frequency, time and activated func-
tions.
NOTE: Itis a characteristic ofLCD panels that,
if subjected to cold temperatures for an
extended period of time, they will take
longer to illuminate than under normal
conditions and the visibility of the num-
bers on the display may decrease. The
LCDread-outwillreturn tonormalwhen
the temperature increases to a normal
range.
bpDISCSLOT
With the label surface facing up, gently insert
the disc into the disc slot until the soft-loading
mechanism engages and disc play begins.
The disc-in indication “ “, play arrow “ “,
track number and elapsed time will appear on
the display panel.
NOTE: This unit is designed for play of stan-
dard5"(12cm)CompactDiscs ONLY.
Do not attempt to use 3" (8cm) CD-
Single discs in this unit, either with or

The Track Search function is used to quickly
access the beginning of a particular track.
Eachtimethe Forward Track Search ( ) side
of the button is pressed, the next higher track
number will be selected as shown on the
display panel. Each time the Backward Track
Search ( ) side of the button is pressed, the
next lower track number will be selected as
shown on the display panel.
brCUE FUNCTION
High-speed audible search to any section of
the disc can be made by the Cue function.
Press and hold the Cue button br to advance
quickly to the desired section. Normal play will
resume when the button is released.
bs REPEAT PLAY SELECTOR (RPT)
Duringdiscplay,pressthis button to repeat the
play of the selected track (“RPT” will appear on
the display panel). Play of the track will con-
tinue to repeat until the button is pressed again
and the “RPT” indication disappears from the
display panel.
bt RANDOM PLAY SELECTOR (RNDM)
During disc play, press this button to play the
tracks on the disc in a random shuffled order
(“RNDM” will appear on the display panel).
The Forward Track Search bq function will
also select tracks in the random order instead
of the normal progression. The Random Play
mode can be cancelled by pressing the button
bt again or activating Repeat Play bsor CD
Scanbufunctions.
buCDSCAN
During disc play, press this button to play the
first 10 seconds of each track on the disc (the
track number will flash on the display panel).
When a desired track is reached, press the CD
Scan button bu again to cancel the function
andplayoftheselectedtrackwillcontinue. CD
Scan mode will also be cancelled by activating
any other CD function selector.

cl PAUSE SELECTOR
During disc play, press this button to tempo-
rarily stop play of the disc (the play arrow “ “
on the display panel will disappear). Press the
button again to resume play of the disc from
the point at which it was stopped.
cmPROGRAMMEMORYSELECTION
Up to 6 tracks can be programmed to be
played in your selected order on this unit. The
following procedure is used to program the
order of track play:
1. Insert the disc into the unit to begin disc
play.
2. UsetheTrackSearchfunction bq toselect
the track to be programmed to play first.
When the track number appears on the
display panel, press the #1 Program
Memorybuttoncmforapproximately2sec-
onds until the track number stops flashing.
3. In a similar manner to programming the first
selection, use the Track Search function
bq toselectthetracktobeprogrammedto
play second and press the #2 Program
Memorybutton cm .
4. Continue the above procedure until all the
desired tracks (up to 6) have been set into
Program Memory buttons #1 through #6.
cnPROGRAMMED PLAY (P-PLAY)
After completing the programming procedure,
play of the tracks in programmed order can be
started by pressing the Programmed Play
button cn.The“P” indication will appear onthe
display panel and the first programmed track
will begin play. To stop Programmed Play and
return to playing the disc in normal order,
pressthe Programmed Playbutton cn again
so that the “P” disappears from the display
panel.
NOTE: Programmed Play memory will be
automatically cleared when the disc is
ejected and removed from the unit or
whentheRe-Setbutton cs ispressed.

co DISC EJECT ( )
Discplayisstopped,thediscisejectedandthe
unit will change to radio operation by pressing
this button. If the disc is not removed from the
unit and the button is pressed again, the disc
will be re-loaded and begin playing.
cp DISC STANDBY SELECTOR (ST-BY)
During disc play, pressing this button will stop
play of the disc and switch to radio operation
without ejecting the disc. During this time, the
disc-in indication “ “ will remain on the
display panel to show that a disc is still loaded
in the unit and the “ST-BY” indication will flash
to show the unit is in the Standby mode. Press
the Standby button cr again to return to disc
play from the beginning of the track in play at
the time Standby mode was activated.
cqTIME/FREQUENCY DISPLAY
SELECTOR (T/F)
During radio or CD play, press this button to
call the time display on the incorporated quartz
clock. The display will automatically return to
radio frequency or disc track/elapsed time
after 5 seconds.
cr FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON
This button is used to release the mechanism
that holds the front panel to the chassis. To
detach the front panel, press the button so that
the right side of the panel is released. Grasp
the right side of the panel and pull it off of the
chassis. To re-attach the panel, slide the left
side of the panel into the opening on the left
side of the chassis and then press the right
side of the panel into place until the latching
mechanism engages.

NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1. Make sure the front panel is right-side-up
when attaching the panel to the chassis as
it cannot be attached when upside-down.
2. Do not press very hard on the panel to
engage the mechanism when attaching
the panel. No more than light to moderate
pressure should be needed.
3. When detaching the panel, be sure to pull it
off from the right side, and not straight
toward you. Similarly, when attaching the
panel, make sure the left side is engaged
before pressing the right side to lock it into
position. Do not attempt to engage to right
side first or push the panel straight on.
4. When taking the panel with you, pleaseuse
the supplied carrying case to protect it from
dirt and damage.
csRE-SETBUTTON
A Re-Set button is located on the front of the
chassis which must be activated by a pen tip
or other thin object as it is recessed to prevent
accidental engagement. The re-set circuitry
is provided to protect the microprocessor cir-
cuitry and should only be activated under the
following circumstances as it will erase the
time and programmed memories.
1. Upon initial installation after all wiring is
completed.
2. After the position of the frequency step
switch on the bottom of the chassis has
been changed.
3. If there is a malfunction of any of the
switches on the unit or of the CD player,
pressing the Re-set button may clear the
system and return to normal operation.

2. Press and hold the Time/Frequency Display Selector cq so that the time indication is shown

3. While continuing to hold the Time/Frequency Display Selector cq , press the #1 Memory
button 9toadjust the hoursand the #2Memory button 9to adjustthe minutes tothe correct
time.
5. When the correct time is shown on the display panel, release the Time/Frequency Display
selector cq .
FREQUENCY STEP SWITCH
This unit is supplied pre-set at the factory for reception of North American radio stations
(10 KHz. channel spacing on AM/200 KHz. spacing on FM). Use in other areas of the world
may require different channel spacing. A switch on the bottom of the chassis allows
selection of 9 KHz. AM/100 KHz. FM channel spacing. Slide the switch to the appropriate
position using a small screwdriver blade. The Re-Set button cs on the front of the chassis
must then be pressed to activate the change of channel spacing.

The radio section of your new sound system does not require any maintenance. We recommend you
keep this manual for reference on the many features found in this unit as well as how to set the clock.
The compact disc player section also requires no routine maintenance, but proper understanding of
its use and handling will help you obtain maximum enjoyment of its capabilities. The following points
should be observed:
When cleaning the interior of the vehicle, do not get water or cleaning fluids on the unit.
The CD player is a precision instrument and will not operate properly in extreme hot or cold. In
case of such conditions, wait until the interior temperature of the vehicle reaches a normal
temperature before using the player.
If the temperature inside the player gets too hot, a protective circuit will automatically stop play
of the disc. In this case, allow the unit to cool off before operating the player again.
Never insert anything other than a 5" (12 cm) compact disc into the player as the mechanism
can be damaged by foreign objects.
Do not attempt to use 3" (8 cm) CD-Single discs in this unit, either with or without an adaptor,
as damage to the player and/or disc may occur. Such damage will not be covered by the
Warranty on this product.
When not using the disc player, always remove the compact disc. Do not leave an ejected disc
sitting in the disc slot as this can expose it to sunlight and other causes of damage.
Do not attempt to open the unit chassis. There are no user serviceable parts or adjustments
inside.
When the vehicle warms up during cold weather or under damp conditions, moisture may
condense on the lens of the disc player. Should this occur, the player will not operate properly
until the moisture has evaporated.
The unit is designed with a vibration dampening CD mechanism to minimize interruption of disc
play due to normal vibration in a moving vehicle. When driving on very rough roads, however,
occasional sound skips may occur. This will not scratch or damage the disc and normal play
will resume when the rough conditions cease.
Use only compact discs with the mark.
Fingerprints, dust, and dirt should be carefully wiped off the disc’s playing surface (shiny side)
with a soft cloth.
Wipe in a straight motion from the inside to the outside of the disc.
Never use chemicals such as record sprays, household cleaners or thinner to clean compact
discs. Such chemicals can irreparably damage the disc’s surface.
Discs should be kept in their storage cases when not in use.
Do not expose discs to direct sunlight, high temperatures or high humidity for extended periods.
Do not stick paper, tape, or labels on the disc surfaces nor write on them with any type of marker.
HANDLING COMPACT DISCS
Dirt, dust, scratches, and warpage can cause skips in the playback and deterioration of sound quality.
