Your RemoteStartAlarmSystem hasmanyfeatures and availableoptions some ofwhich
are selected at time of installation. For your reference, the list on page 9 of this manual
shows what features and options have been installed. Consult your installing dealer for
optionsthat mayhave been installedand arenot listed.
YOUR“CODEHOPPING“TRANSMITTERS:
Thetransmitters included withyournew remote start systemusethe most advancedand
secureformof radio frequency transmission availableonany current automotive remote
system.Some oftoday’ssophisticated autothieves usea deviceknown asa codegrabber,
whichwill receive andstorethe signalfromyour keychain transmitter, and re-transmitat a
latertime todisarm yoursystem.
Your codehopping transmitterswill changetheir signalevery timethe buttonispressed,so
whenathief grabs then re-transmits yoursignal,the alarm systemwillnot respond.
If your transmitter button is pressed more than fifty times while it is out of range of the
vehicle(children playingwith yourkeys),thetransmitterwill notoperate whenyou returnto
thevehicle, andwill needto bere-aligned tothereceiver.Todo this,simplypresstheLock/
Unlockbutton two times withinaone second timeperiod.The system willnowrespond to
thattransmitter eachtimea buttonispressed.
ARMINGTHESYSTEM- ACTIVE:
1.Turn the engine off,exit the vehicle,andclose all doors,hoodand trunk.
2.Press and releasethe Arm buttonof your keychain transmitter onetime.
Theparking lights willflashonce, thesirenwill chirp once,and the dashmountedLED will
begin to flash slowly confirming the system is armed. If you have the optional door lock/
unlockcircuit installed, thedoors will lock.
NOTE: Ifthesiren/horn sounds 3 chirps,thenyou have leftadoor, trunk, orhoodlid ajar.
Simplyclosethe opened entry point toprovidefull protection. If the siren "chirped"
threetimes,sometimeafterarming, theexclusivedelayeddomelight learncircuithas
beenprogrammedand thesystemdetectedaopenentrypointafter thelearneddelay
expired. Again,closing thehood,trunk, ordoors willcorrectthe problemand youdo
notneed todisarm thesystem tomake thecorrection. If thesiren/horn didnotsound
when arming, then the chirps have been turned off and you should refer to the
sectiontitled"ELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS"inthismanual.
SILENTARMING-ACTIVE:
1.Turn the engine off,exit the vehicle,andclose all doors,hoodand trunk.
2.Pressand hold the Arm button ofyourkey chain transmitter for two seconds.
The parking lights will flash once, and the dash mounted LED will begin to flash slowly
confirmingthe system isarmed. The sirenwill not chirp.If you havethe optional doorlock/
unlockcircuit installed, thedoors will lock.
NOTE: If the siren/horn sounds 3 chirps, then you have left a door, trunk, or hood lid ajar.
Simplyclose the opened entrypoint to provide fullprotection. Ifthe siren "chirped"
threetimes,sometime afterarming,the exclusivedelayeddome lightlearncircuithas
beenprogrammedandthesystemdetecteda openentrypointafterthelearneddelay
expired. Again,closing thehood, trunk,or doorswill correctthe problemandyoudo
notneedtodisarmthesystemto makethe correction. Ifthesiren/horndidnotsound
when arming, then the chirps have been turned off and you should refer to the
sectiontitled"ELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS"inthismanual.

ARMINGTHESYSTEM - PASSIVE(AUTOMATIC)
Ifthe passive armingfeaturehas been selected:
1.Turn the engine off,exit the vehicle,andclose all doors,hoodand trunk.
The dash mounted LED will begin to flash rapidly indicating that the 30 second passive
armingtimerhasbegun.IftheLED doesnot begintoflashrapidly,then youhavelefta door,
hood,or trunkajar.Closing thisentry pointwill allowthearmingcyclewillbegin. Ifanyentry
pointisopenedduringthe30secondarmingcycle,armingwill besuspended.Whenallentry
pointsare closed, thearming cycle willbegin again.
Atthe endof the30 seconds,the parkinglights willflash once,the sirenwill chirponce, and
thedashmountedLEDwill begintoflashslowlyconfirming thesystem isarmed. Ifthesiren
didnotsound when arming, then thechirpshave been turned off. Refertothe section on
"Eliminatingthe Arm/Disarm Chirps"shownlater in thismanual. Passive doorlockingis a
selectablefeature. If youhave theoptional doorlock/unlock circuitinstalled, thedoors may
ormay notlock passivelydependingupon thesetup duringinstallation.
PROTECTIONWHILETHESYSTEMISARMED:
Opening any protected entry point, hood, trunk, or doors will cause the alarm to trigger
immediately. The sirenwill soundand theparkinglightswillflash for30 seconds,then stop
andcontinue to monitorall protected entrypoints. If the thiefleft the dooropened, the unit
willsound forsix 30second cyclesthenshutdown,isolate thetriggered zoneand continue
toprotect all other zones.
Wheneverthe system is armed,the dash mountedLEDwill slowly flash.Thisserves as a
visualdeterrent to apotential thief. ThisLEDis averylow currentlight emitting diode,and
willnotcause the battery todraineven if left unattended forlongperiods of time.
Whenever the system is triggered, the vehicle's parking lights will flash for the full siren
soundingperiod. Optional -wheneverthesystemistriggered,theinteriorcourtesylightwill
flashforthe full siren soundingperiod.
Wheneverthesystemisarmed, thevehiclestarter circuitisdisabled,andthe vehiclewillnot
startwiththeignition key.
Whenever the system is armed, any strong impact to the vehicle will cause the shock
detectorto triggerthealarm. Anylesserimpactwillcausethepre-detectstageof theshock
sensor to emit a few short series of warning tones from the siren.
DISARMINGTHESYSTEM
Asyouapproachthevehicle,pressandreleasetheDisarmbuttononthekeychaintransmitter.
Theparking lightswill flashtwo times,thesirenwillchirp twice,and thedash mountedLED
will turn off.
Ifyou have theoptional door lock/unlockcircuitinstalled, thedoorswill unlock.Ifyou have
theoptional entryillumination circuitinstalled, theinteriorlightwillturn onfor 30seconds or
untilthe ignition keyisswitched on.
NOTE: Ifthepassivearmingmode wasselectedattimeofinstallation,thedashmountedLED
willstartflashing rapidlyindicatingthatthesystemisrearming. Openingany doorwill
suspendtheautomaticarming.
Iftheparking lightsflashedthree times,andthesirenchirpsfourtimes,thisindicatesthatthe
alarm system was triggered during your absence. Before turning on the ignition key,
examinethe dash mountedLED'sflash pattern. The numberofflashes identifies thetrig-
geredzone. Foradditionalinformation,refertoINTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNALSfoundlater
inthismanual.
Ifthesiren did not sound upondisarm,then the chirps have beenturnedoff. Refer to the
sectiontitledELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS.

is activated, the drivers door only will unlock, pressing the unlock button a second
time will cause all doors to unlock. If your transmitter has a sperate lock unlock
buttons,pressingtheunlockbutton anytimeafter thefirstunlockcommandwillcause
allthe vehicledoorsto unlock.
SILENTDISARMING
1. As you approach the vehicle, press and hold the disarm button of your key chain
transmitter for two seconds.
Theparking lightswillflashtwice,andthedash mountedLED willturn offconfirming thatthe
systemis disarmed.The sirenwillnot chirp.If youhavethe optionaldoor lock/unlockcircuit
installed,the doorswill unlock.Ifyouhavetheoptionalentryilluminationcircuitinstalled,the
interiorlightwill turn on for 30seconds or until the ignitionkeyis switched on.
NOTE: Ifthepassivearmingmodewasselected attimeofinstallation, thedashmountedLED
willstartflashingrapidlyindicating thatthe systemis rearming. Openinganydoorwill
suspendtheautomaticarming.
Iftheparkinglightsflashed threetimes, andthesirenchirpsfour times,this indicatesthatthe
alarmsystemhadbeen triggeredinyourabsence. Beforeturningontheignitionkey, examine
thedash mountedLED'sflash pattern.The numberofflashes identifiesthe triggeredzone.
Foradditionalinformation,refertoINTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNALSfoundlaterinthismanual.

WHILETHESYSTEMISSOUNDING
If during a triggered state, you wish to shut off the siren without disarming your security
system,simply pressandrelease anytransmitterbutton otherthan the disarmbutton. This
actionwillturn off the sirenyetleave the vehicle fullyarmedand protected. This feature is
particularlyuseful ifyou are awareof childrenplaying nearyourvehicle thatmay accidently
triggeryoursecurity system. In thiscaseyou can cancel thesirensounding.
INTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNAL
This systemwill inform youifan intrusion attempthas occurred whileyouwere away from
thevehicle. Upon disarm,the sirenwill chirp4 timesand theparkinglightswillflash3times.
Enterthe vehicle andbefore turning ontheignition switch,observethe LED flashpattern.
If the LED flashes one time...pause, one time...pause etc., then an intrusion attempt was
madeby impactora strongvibration thattheshock sensordetected. Check the vehiclefor
possibledamage totheglass orbodypanels.
Ifthe LED flashestwo times...pause, twotimes...pauseetc., thenanintrusion attemptwas
madeto open the hood,trunk, or by anaccessory triggering device. Checkthevehicle for
indicationsofforced entry to theseopenings.
IftheLED flashes three times...pause, threetimes...pauseetc., then an intrusion attempt
wasmadetothe vehicle doors. Check all doors for indications of forced entry.
NOTE: TheLED intrusionwarning indicationsare storedin thesystem's memoryandwillbe
erasedwhenthe ignition switch is turned on.
VALETPUSH-BUTTONSWITCH:
Thevaletswitchallowsyou totemporarilybypassallalarm functions,eliminating theneedto
hand your transmitter to parking attendants or garage mechanics. When the system is in
valetmode,allalarmfunctionsarebypassed, howeverthe remotepanicfeatureandremote

doorlocks willremainoperational.Touse thevalet mode,the systemmust firstbedisarmed
eitherbyusing yourkeychaintransmitter,orbyactivating yourpersonalizedmanual override
code.
1. Enterthevehicle, andturn theignition key tothe onposition.
2. Pressandhold the valet pushbuttonswitch until the dashmountedLED turns on solid.
Thesystem willremain inthe valetmode.
3. To return to normal operation, press and release the pushbutton switch any time the
ignitionison.
NOTE: Alwaysremember to returnthe vehicletothe valetoffposition. Thiswillensure that
thevehicle remainsprotected atall times.
MANUALLYOVERRIDINGYOURSYSTEM:
USINGTHEVALETPUSHBUTTONOVERRIDESWITCH
Your SecuritySystem can be disarmedwithoutthe use ofthekeychain transmitter.This is
necessary, since youwillneed the abilitytooperate your vehicleifthe transmitter islostor
its battery fails. If your system has been selected for Valet Switch manual override as
indicatedon the lastpage of thismanual, to by-passthe alarm system;
1. Open the vehicledoor. Thealarmwill sound.
2. Turnthe ignitionkeyto theon position.
3. Within5seconds, press and releasethevalet/override pushbutton switch.
Thealarmsystem will stop sounding and enterthe(by-passed) mode. Youcannow start
andoperate thevehicle normally.
Typically thisoverridemode isused onlyifthe transmitterhas becomeinoperative.
Programming Your Custom Override Code:
Unlikeoverrideswitcheseasilyfound, and defeated, this security system allows the con-
sumer to program a personal override code, offering a higher level of security. To take
advantageofthisoption,programmablefeature# 10must beselected fortheCustomCode
Option. Consultyourinstallationcenter forprogrammingdetails.The system comesfromthe
factorywitha pre-programmed override code of11.Tochange this defaultoverridecode,
dothefollowing:
1. Disarm the system by use of the transmitter, or by use of the emergency override
sequence.Turntheignition switchtothe on position.
2. Within10seconds, press andrelease the valet/overridepushbuttonswitch, 3 times.
3. Within 10 seconds turn the ignition switch off, on, off, on, off, on.
(Thesirenor horn willbeepand the lights willflashone time.)
4. Within10seconds,begintoenteryour chosen10ths digitby pressingand releasingthe
pushbuttonswitchfrom 1up to9times.
5. Within10seconds of the lastentered10ths digit, turn theignitionswitch off then on.
6. Within10seconds, beginto enteryourchosen unitsdigitby pressingand releasingthe
pushbuttonswitchfrom 1 up to9times.
7. Finishbyturning the ignitionswitchto the offposition.
Ifthe new codewasaccepted, theunitwill report backthe newly enteredcode,by flashing
theLED, firstindicating the10ths digit,pauseandthentheunitsdigit.Theunitwillreportthe
new code three times with a one second pause between each code, then the system will
beginarming. Ifthe LEDflash patternreports thepreviously storedcode, thenew codewas
notentered correctly. Please repeat steps1 through7 above considering thefollowing.
NOTE: Acceptabledigits10thsorunits are1through9.The unitwillnot recognizea 0(Zero),
orno digit enteredinany place, unitsortenths.

NOTE: If15secondsof inactivity expire, or if the ignition switchisturned off for more then
5 seconds during any of the above steps, the unit will revert back to the last
successfully stored code.
Custom Code Programming Example:
To Change the code from the factory pre-assigned code of 11 to “52” you would do the
following:
1. Disarm the system by use of the transmitter, or by use of the emergency override
sequence.
2. Turntheignition switchtothe on position.
3. Within10seconds, press andrelease the valet/overridepushbuttonswitch, 3 times.
4. Within 10 seconds turn the ignition switch off, on, off, on, off, on.
(Thesirenor horn willbeepand the lights willflashone time.)
5. Within10seconds, begin topressand release the pushbuttonswitchto set the tenths
digit.(As per the example,press and release 5times to set thetenths digit to 5)
6. Within10 secondsofthelastpress ofthe pushbutton,turntheignitionswitch offthen on.
7. Within10seconds,begintopressandreleasethepush-buttonswitchtosettheunitsdigit.
(Asperthe example, pressandrelease 2 times toset the units digitto2).
8. Turntheignition switchtothe offposition. Immediately observe theLED flashpattern.
YouwillnotetheLEDflashingfivetimes,pause,andthenflashtwotimes,pause.Thispatternwillbe
repeatedthreetimesindicatingthenewcode(52)hasbeenacceptedandstoredinmemory.
NOTE: If after step 7, the LED flashes a code other than what was just entered, this
indicates that the code has not been changed. You will have to repeat steps 1
through7 above beingcertainto note thefollowing:
Acceptabledigits 10thsor unitsare1 through9. Theunit willnotrecognizea0 (Zero),or no
digitentered in anyplace, units ortenths.
NOTE: If15secondsofinactivityexpire,oriftheignitionswitchisturnedoffformorethen5seconds
duringanyoftheabovesteps,theunitwillrevertbacktothelastsuccessfullystoredcode.
MANUALLYOVERRIDINGYOURSYSTEM:
USINGTHECUSTOMCODEOVERRIDE
Assumingthe override codeprogrammed has notbeenchanged, andthedefault override
codeof 11 isin the system'smemory.
1) Enterthe vehicleandturn theignitionswitch to theon position.
NOTE:Thesirenwillsound.
2) Within5 seconds, pressand release the pushbuttonswitch 1 time.
3) Within5 seconds, turn theignition switch off then on.
4) Within5 seconds, pressand release the pushbuttonswitch 1 time.
5) Turnthe ignition switch offthenon and start the vehicle.
NOTE: Ifyou have changedtheprogrammed override codethensubstitute your newcode
tenths for step 2 above, and units for step 5 above.
ELIMINATINGTHENORMAL ARM/DISARMCHIRPS
Youcanselectivelyeliminatethenormalarm&disarmchirpsbyholdingthetransmitterbutton
slightlylongerwhen arming or disarming. This willpreventthe siren chirps for one armor
disarmcycle. If you findthisinconvenient andwishto eliminate thesechirps permanently,
1.Turnthe ignition switch 'on" then'off".
3. Within 10 seconds of turning off the ignition, press and release the valet push button
switch 3 times.
4.Ifthe chirps were on beforeyoustarted, the siren will emit 2shortchirps indicating that

the chirps are now off. If the chirps were off before you started, the siren will emit one
shortchirpindicating that the chirps arenowon.
NOTE: If the vehicle battery is disconnected then reconnected, the unit will return to the
defaultsettingofchirpson. Repeat theabove proceduretoeliminatethearm/disarm
chirps.
REMOTEPANICOPERATION
TheLock orUnlock buttononyour keychaintransmitter alsofunctions asapanicswitchfor
usein emergencysituations.To useremote panic,
1. Press and hold the Lock or Unlock button on the keychain transmitter for 3 or more
seconds.Thealarmwillimmediately sound.
2.To stopthe alarm,pressandholdthe Lockor Unlockbutton onthe transmitteragain for3
seconds. Ifthe buttonis notpressed, thealarmwill automaticallystop after30 seconds.
Also if any transmitter button other than the Lock or Unlock button is pressed and
released, the Panic mode will be turned off immediately. The normal function of this
transmitterbutton willbe suspendedduringthe Panicsounding period.
NOTE: Whilein thePanic mode,pressing andreleasing theLock, orthe Unlockbuttons will,
if the option is installed, lock and unlock the doors respectively. While in the panic
mode,anytimethe unlock button is pressed, the panicfeaturewill continue for the
allotted 30 seconds, however, the security system will be disarmed allowing the
vehicletostart.
SAFETY(Red Handled )CONTROL SWITCH
The control switch allows you to temporarily disable the remote starting function of your
system.Todisable the unit, movethered handled controlswitchto the offposition.
The control switch also allows you to select between 2 hour start up and 4 hour start up
whenusingtheautomaticstartuptimer mode.The factorypreset startup timeforthismode
is every 4 hours. To select between 2 or 4 hour start up timer:
1.Beginwith the control switch intheon position
2.Turnthe ignition switch on then off
3. Within10seconds, move the control switch off, on,off,on (2 switch cycles) to selecta
2hour starttimer. After10 seconds expire,theparking lightswillflash and thesirenwill
chirp2 timesconfirmingthat thetwohour startcycle isset. Or, within10 seconds move
thecontrol switch off, on,off, on, off, on,off, on (4 switchcycles) to select a4 hour start
timer.The parkinglights will flashandthe siren will chirp fourtimesconfirming that the
fourhourstarttimer is set.
REMOTESTARTINGTHEVEHICLE
Theunit WILL NOTstartthe vehicle ifany one ofthefollowing conditions exists:
1.The VehicleHoodIsOpened.
2.The GearSelector IsIn AnyGear OtherThenPark.
3.The BrakeIs Depressed.
4.The SafetyControlSwitch IsInThe OffPosition.
CAUTION! Becertain that the vehicleisoutdoors before usingthisor any remotevehicle
startingdevice. Arunningengineproducesdangerouscarbonmonoxidefumes
whichcan be harmfulor fatal ifprolongedexposure occurs. DONOTremote
startthevehicle if it is garaged.
To Remote Start The Vehicle:
Press and release the trunk/key button of your keychain transmitter two times within 2
seconds.The vehiclewillstart andremain running forthe pre-programmed5,10, 15,or 20

minutes. As a visual indication, the parking lights will flash or turn on depending on the
programmingset upby yourinstallationcenter.
When you arrive at your vehicle, disarm the alarm system by pressing and releasing the
Disarmbutton ofyour keychaintransmitter. Enterthe vehicleand turnthe ignitionkey tothe
onposition.
CAUTION! Do not turn the key to the start position. This will cause the starter motor to
engagewith thealready runningengine whichcould resultin damage. Stepon
thebrake pedaltodisengage theremotestart unit.The vehicle willcontinue to
run but now on it's own power.
NOTE: Theengine willstop runningbefore theexpiration ofthe pre-programmedrun timerif
youcompleteany of thefollowing:
1. Press and release trunk/key button of your keychain transmitter two times within 2
seconds.
2.Depress thebrake pedal.
3.Open thehood.
4.Movethe red handled control switchto the off position.
5.Racetheengineto above4000RPM.
OPERATINGONAUTOMATICSTARTUPTIMERMODE
TheAPS-785has the ability toautomatically start the vehicleevery2 or 4 hoursovera 48
hourperiod. Thisfeatureis especiallyuseful incold climates wherethe onlymeans to keep
theengine and enginefluids warm isto periodically starttheengine.
CAUTION! Be certain thatthevehicle is outdoors beforeusingthis or anyremotevehicle
startingdevice. Arunning engineproducesdangerous carbonmonoxidefumes
whichcanbe harmful or fatalifprolonged exposure occurs. DO NOT remote
startthevehicle if it is garaged.
TOBEGIN THEAUTOMATICSTARTUPTIMER
1. Turnthe ignition key onthenoff.
2. Within10 seconds,activatetheRFstartcommandtwo times.(Push thetrunk/key button
ofyour keychain transmitter4 times).
Theparking lightswill flashandthe sirenwill chirp4 timesindicatingthe timedstart modeis
activated.
The vehicle, on a 2 or 4 hour interval basis, will automatically start, run for the pre-pro-
grammedtime (5,10,15 or20 minutes), andthenshut off.Thiswill continue for48 hours.
NOTE: Theautomatic startuptimer canalsobeinitiatedfrom thekeychain transmitter.
Todo this:
1. Startthe vehicle usingthekeychain transmitter bypressing and releasingthe trunk/key
button2times.
2. Shut off the vehicle using the keychain transmitter by pressing and releasing the
trunk/keybutton2times.
3. Within 10 seconds of step 2, activate the RF start command two times. (Push the
trunk/keybutton ofyourkeychain transmitter4times).
Theparking lightswill flashandthe sirenwill chirp4 timesindicatingthe timedstart modeis
activated.
CANCELINGTHEAUTOMATICSTART UPTIMER
Tocancel the automaticstartup timerdo one ofthefollowing:

TELEMATICUPGRADE:
This system has the ability to have a telematic upgrade module connected to it.
This is an upgrade that can give you control of certain functions of your vehicle
from a Telephone, or in some cases a computer interface. Please check with
your installation center for most recent Telematic Upgrades. If you had a Telematic
Upgrade installed, the manual supplied with the upgrade unit will provide a op-
erators manual advising of the features of the system and means available to
control these features of your vehicle.
