About these operating instructions
Congratulations on purchasing your new device. You have selected a
high-quality product. The operating instructions are part of this product.
They contain important information about the safety, usage and disposal
of the product. Before using the product, please familiarize yourself with
all operating and safety information. Use the product only as described
and for the specified range of applications. Keep these operating
instructions in a safe location. In addition, please pass these documents
on, together with the product, to any future owner.
Intended use
The radio temperature station displays the indoor and outdoor tempera-
tures in degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or degrees Celsius (°C) as well as the
minimum and maximum temperatures. The display also includes the time
in 12/24-hour format and the date. In addition, the radio temperature
station has two alarms.
The product is intended exclusively for private households and is not
recommended for commercial use.

Safety instructions for batteries
Mishandling the batteries can cause fires, explosions,
leakages, or other hazards! In order to handle batteries
safely, please observe the following safety instructions:
► Do not throw the batteries into a fire and do not subject them to
high temperatures.
► Do not open, deform, or short-circuit batteries, since this can lead
to chemical leakage.
► Do not attempt to recharge the batteries. Do not recharge batteries
unless they are explicitly labeled as "rechargeable". There is a risk
of explosion!
► Never heat batteries in order to revive them.
► Check the condition of the batteries at regular intervals. Leaking
chemicals can cause permanent damage to the device.
Take particular care when handling damaged or leaking batteries.
Risk of acid burns! Wear protective gloves.
► Chemicals that leak from a battery can cause skin irritation. In the
event of contact with the skin, rinse the area with plenty of water.
If the chemicals come into contact with your eyes, rinse them
thoroughly with water and do not rub them. Consult a physician
immediately.
► Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Children might put
batteries into their mouth and swallow them. If a battery has been
swallowed, seek medical assistance immediately. Also, contact your
local poison control center.
► Do not mix alkaline, carbon-zinc (standard), Ni-Cd (rechargeable),
or other types of batteries.

► Use only the correct type and size of battery as indicated.
► Always insert the batteries the right way (observe correct polarity);
otherwise there is a risk that they could explode.
► Clean the contacts of the battery and of the device prior to battery
installation.
► If you do not intend to use the device for a long time, remove the
batteries.
► Remove discharged batteries from equipment promptly to avoid
possible damage from leakage.
► Always replace the whole set of batteries at the same time.
Never mix old and new ones.
► If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the
product and keep it away from children.

First use
Before first use, insert the battery into the outdoor sensor and then
into the temperature station.
Requirements at the setup location
► For best selection of the setup location, make sure the devices are
not exposed to direct sunlight, vibration, dust, heat, cold, or humidity.
► Do not set up the device near sources of heat, e.g. heaters.
► Mount the outdoor sensor within a maximum radius of 328 ft from
the temperature station. Make sure there are no interfering obstacles
between the outdoor sensor and the temperature station.
Otherwise, there could be transmission interference.
♦ Both the temperature station and the outdoor sensor can be
suspended from a screw using the hooks zand s.
♦ Alternatively, you can fold out the standjof the outdoor sensor to
set it up on an even, horizontal surface.

Wall-mounting the temperature station and/or the
outdoor sensor
This step requires an electric drill, a 13/64" drill bit and a cross-head
screwdriver.
► Be careful that you do not hit electrical, gas or water lines when
drilling into the wall. Risk of injury!
► The supplied wall anchors are only suitable for fastening in concrete
or stone. It is essential that you check your installation location for
suitability for the wall anchors before installation. If in doubt, consult
a specialist.
♦ Mark the location of the hole on the wall.
♦ Using an electric drill and a 13/64" drill bit, drill the hole at the
marked point to a depth of at least 0.98 in.
♦ Push the wall anchor into the drilled hole
♦ Using a cross-head screwdriver, screw the screw into the wall anchor.
Let the screw head protrude approx. 0.12 in.
♦ Hang the temperature station or the outdoor sensor on the hooks z
or s.

Operating the outdoor sensor
♦ Open the battery compartmentg on the back of the device by
sliding the battery compartment coverh in the direction of the ar-
row.
♦ Insert two type AAA batteries as indicated in the battery compart-
mentg.
♦ Close the battery compartmentgagain. The indicator LEDa lights
up briefly and the current temperature is shown on the displayp.
Afterwards, the indicator LEDalights up once per minute to
indicate that transmission is in progress.
Operating the temperature station
♦ Open the battery compartmentu on the back of the device by
removing the battery compartment coveri.
♦ Insert two type AAA batteries as indicated in the battery
compartmentu.
♦ Close the battery compartmentuagain.
Once the power supply has been established, the display4will
light up and go through a brief check of the display elements.
The temperature station will now attempt to connect to the outdoor
sensor. The reception icon flashes on the outdoor temperature
panel r.
Once the temperature station has successfully connected to the outdoor
sensor, the reception icon turns off and the outdoor temperature is
shown.

If the outdoor temperature is not displayed within approx. 3minutes,
the temperature station will stop searching for reception.
The reception icon turns off and is displayed on the outdoor
temperature panelr. The system likely cannot detect a signal due
to structural conditions or because the sensor is too far away.
If the device is unable to automatically connect to the outdoor sensor,
you can establish a connection manually:
♦ Press and hold the button0until the reception icon flashes
on the outdoor temperature panelr.
♦ Press the TX buttondto manually start the wireless signal for the
outdoor sensor.
The temperature station automatically starts to receive the WWVB signal
after 3minutes, regardless of whether the outdoor sensor reception
search was successful or not.
The reception icon flashes on the time panel6. If the reception
icon is not flashing completely ( ) on the display4, it means that
the reception of the WWVB signal is too weak and the time cannot be
synchronized. Try to find a set-up location where the reception icon ( )
flashes completely on the display4. If the WWVB signal is being
received correctly, the current Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is dis-
played on the time panel6and the date and weekday are displayed
on the date panel8. In addition, the reception symbol is permanent-
ly displayed on the time panel6.

If the device is unable to synchronize with the WWVB signal, you can
attempt automatic reception again or turn off this function and set the
time manually (see Basic settings section).
♦ Press the buttonwto attempt the reception search again.
The reception icon flashes on the time panel6.
♦ To cancel the reception attempt, press the buttonw.
The reception symbol on the time panel6turns off.
If synchronization with the WWVB signal is still not possible, you can
manually enable/disable the automatic WWVB reception function.
♦ Press and hold the buttonw. The upper part of the reception
symbol ( ) is shown on the time panel6. The automatic WWVB
reception function is turned off.
♦ Press and hold the buttonwagain.
The automatic WWVB reception function is turned back on and
can be restarted.

The WWVB signal
WWVB is a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
time signal radio station near Fort Collins, Colorado. The 70 kW ERP
signal transmitted from WWVB is a continuous 60 kHz carrier wave, the
frequency of which is derived from a set of atomic clocks located at the
transmitter site, yielding a frequency uncertainty of less than 1 part in
one trillion.
Under ideal conditions, the temperature station can receive the signal
up to a distance of approximately 2000 miles from the transmitter.
Reception of the WWVB signal normally takes between 3 and
5 minutes. If reception of the WWVB signal fails, the temperature
station will stop trying to establish reception after approximately
7 minutes.
Reception can be considerably restricted by obstacles (e.g. concrete
walls) or interference sources (e.g. other electronic devices).
If reception problems persist, you should change the location of the
temperature station (e.g. put it by a window).

Displays in basic mode
After the temperature station has received the signal from the outdoor
sensor and the WWVB signal, the device enters basic mode. In basic
mode, the temperature station displays the following information:

The alarm times are displayed
in 12-hour format by default.
When the alarm is turned on,
the or symbol appears next to the corresponding alarm time. If
the snooze function is activated, also flashes on the corresponding
alarm panel.
The time panel6
By default, the time is displayed in 12-hour
format. During summer, (daylight
saving time) is displayed. This display is
only shown if the WWVB signal is being
received. If you live in an area that does not recognize daylight saving
time (i.e. parts of Arizona and Indiana), you must turn off this function
(see Basic settings section).

The date panel 8
The current month appears next to the icon and the
current day next to the icon . The abbreviation for the
current weekday is shown to the left of the icon .
The language for this abbreviation is preset to English but can be
changed, if preferred. Please refer to the Basic settings section for
details.
The indoor temperature panel7
The indoor temperature measured by the
temperature station is displayed to one decimal
place. The temperature unit (degrees Fahrenheit)
is displayed on the top right. The temperature unit
can also be changed to (degrees Celsius).
If the temperature drops below the measuring range of 32 °F to
122 °F (or 0 °C to 50 °C) appears on the display; is
displayed if the temperature rises above this range.
The temperature trend is shown to the left of the temperature display.
The following displays are possible:
= the temperature is rising.
= the temperature is constant.
= the temperature is dropping.
If the battery symbol appears to the left of the temperature display,
you should replace the batteries of the temperature station as soon
as possible (see section Operating the temperature station).

The outdoor temperature panelr
The outdoor temperature is displayed to one decimal
place. The temperature unit (degrees Fahrenheit) is
displayed on the top right. The temperature unit can also
be changed to (degrees Celsius). If the temperature
drops below the measuring range of -4 °F to 140 °F (or -20 °C to
60 °C) appears on the display; is displayed if the temperature
rises above this range.
The temperature trend is shown to the left of the temperature display.
The following displays are possible:
= the temperature is rising.
= the temperature is constant.
= the temperature is dropping.
If the battery symbol appears to the left of the temperature display,
you should replace the batteries of the outdoor sensor as soon as

Basic settings
If the device is unable to synchronize with the WWVB signal, you can
also set the temperature station manually.
♦ To configure the basic settings, press and hold the buttonq
for approximately 3 seconds. flashes on the time panel6.
♦ Press the button0or the buttonwto select the required
hour format (12- or 24-hour format).
♦ Press the buttonqto confirm your entry. (time zone setting)
flashes on the time panel6.
