upasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionandthenchangethepassword.
Thedevicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforyourdataandservices.Axisdevicesdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasthey
maybeusedinvarioustypesofinstallations.
Toprotectyourdatawestronglyrecommendthatyou:
•seapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablycreatedbyapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.

Toimproveimagequalityforspecicsurveillancescenes,useexposuremodes.Exposuremodesletsyoucontrolaperture,shutter
speed,andgain.GotoVideo>Image>Exposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.

Dependingontheinstallationenvironmentandtheconditionsaroundthecamera,forexampleexternallightsourcesinthescene,
youcansometimesimprovetheIRilluminationifyoumanuallyadjusttheintensityoftheLEDs.

4.Adjusttheintensity.
BenetfromIRlightinlow-lightconditionsbyusingnightmode
Yourcamerausesvisiblelighttodelivercolorimagesduringtheday.Astheavailablelightdiminishes,youcansetthecamerato
automaticallyshifttonightmode,inwhichthecamerausesbothvisiblelightandnear-infraredlighttodeliverblack-and-white
images.Sincethecamerausesmoreoftheavailablelight,itcandeliverbrighter,moredetailedimages.
1.GotoVideo>Image>Day-nightmode,andmakesurethattheIR-cutlterissettoAuto.
2.Tosetthelightlevelatwhichthecamerawillshifttonightmode,movetheThresholdslidertowardBrightorDark.
3.Tousethecamera’sIRlightwhennightmodeisactivated,turnonAlloIRilluminationandSynchronizeIRillumination.
Note
Ifyousettheshifttonightmodetooccurwhenit’sbrighter,theimageremainssharperastherewillbelesslow-light
noise.Ifyousettheshifttooccurwhenit’sdarker,theimagecolorsaremaintainedforlonger,buttherewillbemore
imageblurduetolow-lightnoise.
Reducenoiseinlow-lightconditions
Toreducenoiseinlow-lightconditions,youcanadjustoneormoreofthefollowingsettings:
•Adjustthetrade-offbetweennoiseandmotionblur.GotoImage>ExposureandmovetheBlur-noisetrade-off
slidertowardLonoise.
•Settheexposuremodetoautomatic.
Note
Ahighmaxshuttervaluecanresultinmotionblur.
•Toslowdowntheshutterspeed,setmaxshuttertothehighestpossiblevalue.
•Reducesharpnessintheimage.

comesfromtheencodingdriverofthedevice.Thebitrateintheoverlayistheaveragebitrateofthelast5seconds,
anditcomesfromthebrowser.Bothvaluescoveronlytherawvideostreamandnottheadditionalbandwidth
generatedwhenit’stransportedoverthenetworkthroughDP/TCP/HTTP.
•Adaptivestream:Turnontoadapttheimageresolutiontotheviewingclient’sactualdisplayresolution,toincrease
theuserexperienceandhelppreventapossibleoverloadoftheclient’shardware.Theadaptivestreamisonly
appliedwhenyouviewthelivevideostreaminthewebinterfaceinabrowser.Whenadaptivestreamisturnedon,
themaximumframerateis30fps.Ifyoutakeasnapshotwhileadaptivestreamisturnedon,itwillusetheimage

•Levelgrid:Clicktoshowthelevelgrid.Thegridhelpsyoudecideiftheimageishorizontallyaligned.Click

Capturemode:Acapturemodeisapresetcongurationthatdeneshowthecameracapturesimages.Whenyouchangethe
capturemode,itcanaffectmanyothersettings,suchasviewareasandprivacymasks.
Mountingposition:Theorientationoftheimagecanchangedependingonhowthecameraismounted.
Poerlinefrequency:Selectthefrequencythatisusedinyourregiontominimizeimageicker.TheAmericanregions
usuallyuse60Hz.Therestoftheworldmostlyuses50Hz.Ifyou'renotsureofyourregion'spowerlinefrequency,check
withthelocalauthorities.

Appearance
Saturation:setheslidertoadjustthecolorintensity.Youcanforexamplegetagrayscaleimage.

Brightness:setheslidertoadjustthelightintensity.Thiscanmakeobjectseasiertosee.Brightnessisappliedafterimage
capture,anddoesn’taffecttheinformationintheimage.Togetmoredetailsfromadarkarea,it’susuallybettertoincrease
gainorexposuretime.
Sharpness:setheslidertomakeobjectsintheimageappearsharperbyadjustingtheedgecontrast.Ifyouincreasethe
sharpness,itmayincreasethebitrateandtheamountofstoragespaceneededaswell.

WDR:Turnontomakebothbrightanddarkareasoftheimagevisible.
Localcontrast:setheslidertoadjustthecontrastoftheimage.Ahighervaluemakesthecontrasthigherbetweendark
andlightareas.
Tonemapping:setheslidertoadjusttheamountoftonemappingthatisappliedtotheimage.Ifthevalueissettozeroonly
thestandardgammacorrectionisapplied,whileahighervalueincreasesthevisibilityintheimage.
Dynamiccontrast:Turnontoimprovetheexposurewhenthereisaconsiderablecontrastbetweenlightanddarkareasinthe
image.TurnonWDRinintensebacklightconditions,andturnitoffinlow-lightconditionsforoptimalexposure.setheDynamic
contrastlevelslidertoadjustthecontrastintheimage.Ahighervalueincreasesthecontrastbetweendarkandlightareas.
Whitebalance
Whenthecameradetectsthecolortemperatureoftheincominglight,itcanadjusttheimagetomakethecolorslookmore
natural.Ifthisisnotsufcient,youcanselectasuitablelightsourcefromthelist.
Theautomaticwhitebalancesettingreducestheriskofcolorickerbyadaptingtochangesgradually.Ifthelightingchanges,or
whenthecameraisrststarted,itcantakeupto30secondstoadapttothenewlightsource.Ifthereismorethanonetype
oflightsourceinascene,thatistheydifferincolortemperature,thedominatinglightsourceactsasareferenceforthe
automaticwhitebalancealgorithm.Thisbehaviorcanbeoverriddenbychoosingaxedwhitebalancesettingthatmatches
thelightsourceyouwanttouseasareference.
Lightenvironment:
•Automatic:Automaticidenticationandcompensationforthelightsourcecolor.Thisistherecommendedsetting
whichcanbeusedinmostsituations.
•Automatic–outdoors:Automaticidenticationandcompensationforthelightsourcecolor.Thisistherecommended
settingwhichcanbeusedinmostoutdoorsituations.
•Custom–indoors:Fixedcoloradjustmentforaroomwithsomearticiallightotherthanuorescentlightingand
goodforanormalcolortemperaturearound2800K.
•Custom–outdoors:Fixedcoloradjustmentforsunnyweatherconditionswithacolortemperaturearound5500K.
