TheAxisproductprovidesseveralvideostreamformats.Yourrequirementsandthepropertiesofyournetworkwilldeterminethe
typeyouuse.
TheLiveViewpageintheproductprovidesaccesstoH.264andMotionJPEGvideostreams,andtothelistofavailalestream
proles.Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideostreamsdirectly,withoutgoingviatheLiveViewpage.
HowtoStreamH.264
H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideoleymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion
JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycaneachievedforagivenitrate.
Decidingwhichcominationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesof
yournetwork.TheavailaleoptionsinAXISMediaControlare:
UnicastRTPThisunicastmethod(RTPoverUDP)isused
forliveunicastvideo,especiallywhenitis
importanttoalwayshaveanup-to-datevideo
stream,evenifsomeframesaredropped.
RTPoverRTSPThisunicastmethod(RTPtunneledoverRTSP)
isusefulasitisrelativelysimpletocongure

MulticastRTPThismethod(RTPoverUDP)shouldeusedforlivemulticastvideo.Thevideostreamisalways

Multicastingprovidesthemostefcientusageofandwidthwhentherearelargenumersof
clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothowever,passanetworkrouterunlessthe
routerisconguredtoallowthis.ItisnotpossiletomulticastovertheInternet,forexample.
Notealsothatallmulticastviewerscountasoneunicastviewerinthemaximumtotalof20
simultaneousconnections.
AXISMediaControlnegotiateswiththeAxisproducttodeterminethetransportprotocoltouse.Theorderofpriority,listedinthe
AMCControlPanel,canechangedandtheoptionsdisaled,tosuitspecicrequirements.

TheGOVlengthisthenumerofframesetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOVlengthmaysaveconsideralyon

TheitratecanesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orConstantbitrate(CBR).VBRadjuststheitrateaccordingtotheimage
complexity,usingupmoreandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin
thesceneincreases,theitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinandwidth,thismaynoteanissueand
selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willesufcient.Butifandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontroltheitrateyselecting
Constantbitrate(CBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststheitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup
moreandwidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforlowersceneactivity.CBRallowsyoutosetatargetitratethat
limitstheandwidthconsumption.
TheCBRtargetitrateworksliketheceilingofatent.Itlimitstheitrate,whilemaintainingsomeexiility.Theitratemayounce
upanddownwithinthesettargetutwhenitnearsthesettargetvalue,thelimitationkicksin.However,ecauseCBRwillalways
prioritizeacontinuousvideostream,itallowstemporaryovershootsfromthetargetitrate.Becausesettingatargetvalueprevents
theitratefromincreasing,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthis,selectwhichvariale
shalleprioritized,framerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequallyaffected.

providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe
sizeoptimizesandwidthandstorageusage,utmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedandwidthandstorageusage,
themaximumframesizeshouldesettoanoptimalvalue.

mostsituations.Theshutterspeedisautomaticallysettoproduceoptimumimagequality.Flicker-free50or60Hzisusedtoremove
ickerwhichcanecausedyuorescentandotherlightsources.TheHoldcurrentoptionlocksthecurrentexposuresettings.
EnableBacklightcompensation-Enalethisoptionifarightspotoflight,forexamplealightul,causesotherareasin
theimagetoappeartoodark.
Exposurezones-Thissettingdetermineswhichpartoftheimageisusedtocalculatetheexposure.Formostsituations,theAuto
settingcaneused.Forparticularrequirements,selectapredenedarea.
Exposurepriority-WhenMotionisprioritizedandmaximumShuttertimeissettoasmallvalue,motionlurintheimageis
minimized.Thiscaneusefulforrecognitionofmovingojectssuchaspeopleandvehicles.However,prioritizingmotionmaycause
anincreaseinimagenoise,especiallyinlowlightsituations.WhenLownoiseisprioritizedandGainissettoasmallvalue,image
noiseisminimized.Thelesizeisreduced,whichcaneusefulifstoragespaceorandwidthislimited.However,prioritizinglow
noisemayresultinaverydarkimage,especiallyinlowlightsituations.
