Operation and Installation
To activate the device, it must first be connected to an active mains power point. Once connected, the device
will switch on automatically.
During the start-up process, ‘AYRA’ will be displayed on the integrated menu screen and the device cannot
be operated yet. Once the start-up process has been completed, the device will jump to the last used mode
and from here, the various settings and modes can now be adjusted using the display and menu buttons.
If a DMX signal is detected, the device will automatically jump to DMX mode and the last DMX address used.
With a brand new device, the automatic DMX address is usually 001. The DMX address can be set manually
using the display and menu buttons.
Using the display and menu buttons, all the various functions and parameters of the device can be adjusted.
Use the ‘Enter’ button to select a function or to confirm an adjustment. Use the ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ buttons to
change values and use the ‘Menu’ button to return to the menu. After a setting has been saved, press and
hold the ‘Menu’ button down for 2 seconds so that the device returns to operation mode and the settings just
saved. This should be done after the operation mode or DMX address has been changed but is not always
necessary since the device will automatically return to operation mode and the settings just saved within a
few seconds.
In the Menu, the following modes and functions can be found:

Below, you’ll find an explanation of each function:
ADDR: With this function, you can determine the DMX start address of the device. Set it channel 001, and
the device will respond to DMX channel 1. Set it to channel 003, then the device will respond to DMX
channel 3 and so on.
CHAN: This device can be operated using various DMX channel modes. If your DMX circuit is reasonably
full with devices and you do not need extensive control over the functions, a concise channel mode can be
The information included in this manual is subject to change at any time and without notice
Version: 1.0 Date and Author Initials: 17-02-2020 RV Revision Date and Author Initials: -

selected. It is also possible to select a more extensive channel mode, making more channels available for
the control of several separate functions.
MASL: Using the Master / Slave Mode, it’s possible to connect several devices of the same type with one
another via DMX 3-pin X R cables so that they perform exactly the same movements and functions at the
same time. Therefore, single devices do not respond individually (or chaotically) and this results in a
completely coordinated show. In the Master / Slave function, the first device in the circuit is set as the Master
and does not receive DMX signal.
P EASE NOTE: When Slave mode is activated, the device shall wait for a signal from the designated Master
device. In this case, selecting an automatic or sound-controlled mode is not possible! To cancel the Slave
mode, enter the ‘S ND’ menu and select ‘NAST’. This then sets the device to Master mode and the stand-
alone functions can then be activated once more.
SHOW: Select one of the built-in shows and set the speed that the show will be performed in or set the
fixture to perform in SOUN mode (further in the menu) so that the show is performed in time to the beat of
any detected music. When show ‘0’ is selected, various shows are performed one by one.
COLO: Select one of the built-in colour macros or a fade or jump effect and manually set the dimmer and
speed of the program.
MANU: Manual colour mix function. Set a master-level, add an optional strobe effect and set the value of
each base colour (red, green, blue, white) to mix a custom colour.
SOUN: Here, you can determine whether the built-in microphone is switched on or off by simply selecting
‘On’ or ‘Off. When the microphone is switched on and the device is in Show mode, any selected show will be
performed in time to the beat of any detected music.
SENS: This mode allows you to set the sensitivity of the in-built microphone. The further away the device is
installed from the sound-source, the higher the sensitivity of the microphone needs to be so that the sound is
registered and the device responds accordingly and in time to the music. The microphone is able to
withstand high sound pressure. However, if the sound is loud and the sensitivity is high, the microphone will
find it more difficult to register the beat. Experiment with the sensitivity and distance from the positioning of
the device to make sure you’re getting the best possible signal and optimum performance.
LED: When the ED display is not in use, it can be switched off. By setting ‘ ED’ to ‘Off’, this will prevent red
symbols from illuminating when the device is being used in dark spaces. If you press one of the menu
buttons, the display shall immediately light up and show all necessary information. If the display is not used,
it shall automatically switch off again in 30 seconds.
DIS : This function is useful when the device is suspended and the display screen is upside down. Use this
function to flip the screen so that it can be easily read when the device is suspended.
TEST: When the device needs to be inspected, use the ‘TEST’ function to test one or more devices at the
same time. The device(s) shall continuously runs through a programme within which the EDs are tested so
that any deviations or defects can be easily detected. The device shall continue to repeat the programme
until it is manually interrupted (when you switch the device to sound control mode, for example).
INFO: When the device is used professionally, or is hired out regularly, it is important that general
maintenance and inspections of the device are frequently carried out. The HOUR function displays the total
amount of hours that the device has been in use. This total is updated automatically whenever the device is
used and cannot be adjusted by the user.
The VER function displays the firmware version installed. This cannot be adjusted or edited by the user.

Operation Modes
Please find a more detailed explanation of the differences between all available Operation Modes below and
how they are affected by the menu functions listed above.
Auto:
In Auto Mode, you can select one of the Operation Modes in which the device is not dependent on external
factors such as DMX signals, master signals or sound. Here, one of the basic programmes can be selected
and you can set the alternating speed or correct the intensity.
Sound:
Sound-controlled mode, or ‘sound mode’, uses a built-in microphone that registers the beat of music and
runs a program based on this. For example, the device can move in synchronisation with any music,
providing an automatic light-show.
When no music is detected or only the high-end (treble) is present in the music due to a break, the device
will continue its program at a slower pace. As such, the light show does not appear to come to a standstill. As
soon as sound is registered by the microphone again, the device will continue its program in synchronisation
with the beat.
Slave
In Slave Mode, it’s possible to connect several devices of the same type with one another so that they
perform exactly the same movements and functions at the same time. Therefore, single devices do not
respond individually (or chaotically) and this results in a completely coordinated show. In theory, by adding a
DMX booster, an unlimited number of Slave devices can be linked to one Master device. In general and
without the use of a DMX booster, it should be possible to connect four armatures without any problems.
Please note: If you link devices of a different type or brand (even if they appear to have the same function),
chaotic or strange behaviour can occur. This is often because certain functions are linked to incorrect
channels. This applies to DMX lighting of all types and brands.
DMX
The DMX Mode is the most comprehensive mode for optimum control over all functions of this device. Via
DMX, it is possible to control either a limited or large amount of functions via a DMX controller or DMX
software.
The device can be set in different channel modes so that the channel layout (included below) is in alignment
with the layout of your DMX circuit and with the functions you want to use.

Installation and Connection Instructions
Now you know about everything that the Compar Kit Jr. can do and how it operates. So that you get the very
best out of your kit while using it in the safest way possible, please follow these installation and connection
instructions closely. This not only ensures that the device is used correctly, but safely.
Make sure that children do not have access to the device or any connecting cables. If there are children
present, make sure that they are supervised. Since the device can be placed upright or be suspended, it is
possible for children to pull on any connecting cables and cause the device to fall. To prevent any accidents
or injury, this must be taken into account whenever the device is being positioned and/or installed.
Standing Installation
When you want to place the Compar Kit Jr. in an upright position, make sure that the device is placed on a
stable surface such as a table, DJ booth or bar. The double suspension bracket is designed so that it can
function as a stand. This way, the spotlight can be directed towards your audience or positioned to provide
uplighting. Always make sure that the light is positioned on a stable surface and that any cabling is secured
so that no one can trip and knock or pull the device over.
The Compar Kit Jr. can also be stand mounted using the included 35mm stand adapter. Please note that a
stand is not included.
Suspended Installation
If the Compar Kit Jr. needs to be suspended, suspension brackets and mounting materials are required
(brackets and mounting materials not included).
If a G-hook or half coupler needs to be installed on the device, this can be done before the brackets are
mounted. Standard hooks and/or brackets for 35 to 50mm tubes (truss or lighting stand) should be available
from your local retailer.
The hardware needed to mount the Compar Kit Jr. to a wall is not included. If you are unsure what hardware
is needed to mount the device to a wall, then please contact a specialist since wooden strut and brick walls
will require different materials.
When the Compar Kit Jr. is suspended, you will need to attach a safety cable to the fixture. This is not
included but is available at your local retailer. The device is fitted with an attachment point for hooking a
safety cable. Once hooked on, the cable can be wrapped around the truss or light stand and attached once
more to the same hook. This ensures the device is secure and prevents it from falling, even if one or both of
the brackets should come loose and fail.
Ensure that the safety cable has a load capacity of 10x the weight of the device and that the device cannot
fall farther than 30cm. You can wrap the safety cable around the truss or light stand several times to ensure
the fall is as short as possible. The shorter the fall, the less chance of damage or injury.
Mounting Extra Lighting
When the Compar Kit Jr. is stand mounted, extra mounting points fitted to the top surface can be used to
mount extra lighting. These mounting points are intended for fixtures like small ED moving heads, lighting
effects or a strobe. The weight per extra fixture must not exceed 2kg.
Light Source
The Compar Kit Jr. uses powerful ED modules that are made even more powerful by a special lens that
combines and focuses these beams, much like a magnifying glass. Since the human eye cannot adjust
quickly enough to sudden and intense exposure to the level of brightness this device produces, never look
directly into the lens at close range. While it won't result in permanent damage, it can cause temporary blind
spots which may cause disorientation and discomfort.

arts and Repairs
This product does not include spare parts and can not be repaired by the user. Any inspections and overall
repairs or maintenance should be carried out by a specialist only.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean the exterior of this device on a monthly basis with a dry, or slightly damp microfibre cloth. Ensure that
the device is unplugged before cleaning.
Check that all screws are intact and secured and tighten or replace them where needed. Check all metal
parts of the device for any signs of corrosion. If corrosion is found, the device needs to be checked
thoroughly.
ower Output
The Compar Kit Jr. is fitted with a power sharing output via an IEC C13 socket so that more than one device
can be connected and fed power as part of a chain without the need for more than one mains power point.
The fuse fitted in this device is intended to protect that single device only. The input and output of the power
supply are directly wired to each other. If any problems occur with the Compar Kit Jr. itself, then this will have
no effect on any chained devices.
Since a standard 230V group can be loaded with a maximum of 16A and the maximum power that can be
processed by an IEC C13 or C14 is set to 10A, any devices connected to the power sharing output can
amount to a maximum or 2,000 Watts. This total includes a small safety margin.
This capacity is usually more than enough to daisy-chain a complete ED lighting set up. Avoid connected
equipment that requires a lot of power like smoke machines or halogen lighting.
Please note: An IEC C13 to IEC C14 power cable with a minimum 1.5 mm² thickness must always be used
since the current this cable can transfer can exceed 3A.
DMX Terminator
When using the device in DMX mode, it is common for a ‘terminator’ to be used at the end of the DMX
circuit. A DMX terminator is a terminal resistor, consisting of a 120 Ohm resistor placed between the second
and third pin to eliminate any data reflections. Data reflections can cause strange behaviour in DMX
controlled devices.
DMX-terminators are sold ready-made but it is possible to solder a 120 Ohm resistor between the second
and third pin of a standard male X R connector.

no DMX signal indication
Make sure the X R cables are
connected properly and are not
defective. Replace if necessary.
The device does not react to
sound/music
Incorrect operation mode Make sure the sound-activated
mode has been selected.
The internal microphone sensitivity
is too low
Check the microphone sensitivity
level and increase it if necessary.
The speaker is too far away, or is
not producing enough low tones
Place the light effect closer to a
speaker (or vice versa) and/or
increase the low-frequency level.
The built-in microphone is not
triggered by high tones.
The amount of projected light is
minimal
Dirty or dusty optics Clean the lens and/or other optics.
Dimmer is not completely open Check if the dimmers on the
spotlights themselves and/or if the
master dimmer is completely open.
Also, check the colour balance
settings.
The DMX signal appears to be
interrupted and some devices are
flashing or behaving strangely
Damaged/defective cables Check and replace the DMX
cables if necessary.
Power interference on the DMX
signal
Avoid connecting signal cables
parallel to power cables.
