Caution
If the gauge is showing red, your cylinder
is empty and needs to be changed
immediately.
The cylinder is full when the contents
gauge points to the blue or green section.
The appearance of your gauge may vary.

How to Use a Cylinder With
a Flow Meter
In order to deliver some flow rates, our cylinders are
available with a flow meter.

Your flow meter’s appearance may differ, but it will work
in the same way.

To make sure the flow meter is attached properly and the
cylinder is working as it should, follow these steps:
1. Check that the flow meter is plugged into the socket of
your cylinder valve. To check that it is securely in place,
gently tug on the flow meter to check it doesn’t come
away.
2. Attach the oxygen tubing to the outlet. As with all your
tubing, check that there are no kinks or that the tubing
is trapped as this could restrict the flow of oxygen.
3. Turn the On/Off valve on your cylinder anti-clockwise
until the word ‘On’ is shown.
4. Turn the flow meter on by gently turning the valve anti-
clockwise. Make sure that it is set to the flow number
ordered by your Healthcare Professional. When you
turn the valve, make sure that the flow
number is shown in the middle of the
viewing window.
5. Put the mask or nasal prongs on.
Your oxygen will be flowing and
can be used.
6. When you have finished using the
cylinder, turn the main cylinder
off by turning the On/Off valve
clockwise to show the word ‘Off’.
7. To turn the flow meter off, turn
the flow meter clockwise this
time until you see ‘0’ in the
viewing window.
8. When you have finished using
the cylinder check how much
oxygen is left and if it is low,
please re-order.
Always make
sure that the On/
Off valve on your
cylinder is set to ‘On’
when the flow meter
is in use or ‘Off’
when it is not
Do not turn
past the ‘On’
position using the
cylinder flow rate
control as this will
cause oxygen to leak
from the cylinder

How to Order Cylinders
If you need a refill of your oxygen cylinders please call us
on 0800 373580, 8.00am-6.30pm every day.
You can also reorder cylinders via our website. Go to
www.baywater.co.uk, click the link and follow the
instructions given.
Refill orders must be made during our normal office hours.
Only emergency calls will be handled outside of these
hours.
Portable cylinder refills cannot be ordered for same day
delivery so you will need to ensure that you order before
your cylinder is empty.
Please note: Your portable cylinder remains the property
of Baywater Healthcare and is on loan to the NHS

Storing Your Cylinders
Cylinders must be stored in a dry
environment, away from anything
that displays the flammable logo
on packaging, or contains the
ingredient oil. Frost could lead
to the valve becoming frozen,
making the cylinder unusable,
and flammable or oil based
products will increase the risk of fire.
If stored in a cold location, the needle
on the contents gauge could go down.
This will return to it’s normal position once the cylinder has
warmed up.
How Do I Carry my
Cylinder?
You will be provided with a cylinder carry bag for your
cylinder. Your Healthcare Technician will show you how to
use this when you have your equipment installed.
Your portable cylinders should always be carried and used
in the carry bag provided by Baywater Healthcare.

Check the tubing has
no holes or kinks and is
connected to the cylinder
nozzle correctly.
If using a micro flow or
low flow valve, ensure that
they are securely fitted
and the nasal prongs
or mask are connected
correctly.
Ensure the cylinder is
turned to the ON position.
Check the cylinder gauge
to ensure the cylinder is
not empty.
Troubleshooting
What to do it no oxygen can be felt coming from the
nasal prongs or mask
If none of these checks resolve the concern, please call
