Cover
1. Grasp protective shield with
thumb and index finger with
blade tip pointing up.
2. Insert handle cleat and attach
protected blade up to the
indicator line.
CAUTION: DO NOT place hand
in front of the shield opening.
1. Depress top
button on
protective shield.
2. Retract shield
to rear locked
position to fully
uncover blade.
1. Depress top button
on protective shield.
2. Advance shield fully
until it locks.

QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Dispose
One handed technique with blade covered:
1. Place thumb on side of
handle behind cartridge.
2. Push forward to unload
protected blade.
3. Dispose of protected
blade in an approved
sharps container.

The BD Bard-Parker Protected Blade System has been
designed to minimize the risk of surgical blade injuries that
occur before use, during passing and between steps of the
procedure, after use and during disposal.
The protective shield is easily activated with one finger by
depressing the top button and sliding the shield to the “in
use” or “protected” position. The scalpels are virtually the
same size and weight as conventional scalpels.
