4. HOW TO USE YOUR XM1800S MOST EFFECTIVELY
Adjust the gain control in the micro hone channel of your mixing console so that the eak LED lights
u only occasionally or never at all. The EQ controls in the micro hone channel should be set to
mid-travel osition to start with; low-cut filter and level attenuator should be turned off. Try to achieve
the desired sound by ex erimenting with the micro hone osition. Place the micro hone as close to
the sound source as ossible. The closer your mic gets to the sound source, the greater the bass
res onse will be. On the other hand, as you move the sound source further away from the micro hone,
the bass res onse will gradually roll off ( lease see frequency res onse chart on next age).
Only when the desired basic sound has been achieved, should you start to use equalizers and
signal rocessors, if any at all. (Remember: less is often more!)
All micro hones have characteristic olar atterns that determine how well signals from around the
area of the micro hone are acce ted or rejected.
The su er cardioid attern is used by the XM1800S. Thus, the XM1800S excels in environments
where a lot of undesired ambient noise exists. The XM1800S excellently re roduces those sound
signals originated directly in front of the micro hone while rejecting or minimizing sound signals
originated in the area behind the micro hone ( lease refer to the olar attern on next age for
detailed information).
