Compaq Remote Insight
Board/PCI
LAN Network Connectivity
All versions include an onboard Ethernet connection, providing Network Administrators with a full time network
connection to the managed server. Remote Insight provides in-band notification in case of server problems at the
Central Site management station on a real-time basis, without needing to maintain separate telephone connections o
r
modem sharing devices.
Browser Accessible
Remote Insight is accessible with Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. This allows easy access to
Remote Insight board features to perform remote management tasks using a familiaruser interface.
Remote Insight Console
Remote Insight Console provides a remote connection to managed servers, allowing a remote PC to display all
phases of server activity (including post sequences and OS load) without loss of connection.
Remote Insight provides Remote Graphical Console capabilities for Windows NT servers utilizing standard graphics
based terminal emulation software tools such as Carbon Copy 32 and pcAnywhere 32.
Remote Reboot
Allows the remote administrator to reboot the server on demand; when the system is functioning properly, the system
performs a graceful shutdown prior to reset; when the system is not responding, a cold reboot will be issued in order
to bring the server back on-line
PC Card Modem
Models 294013-001, 294013-B31 and 294013-291 provide integrated modem communications through a 33.6 Kb/s
PC Card modem, with localized support for country-specific telecommunications requirements.
Serial Communications
Models 294013-B22 and 294013-292 provide an RS-232 serial port for connecting an external customer supplied
modem.
NiMH Rechargeable Battery Backup
Integrated, user-replaceable battery provides at least 30 minutes of operation to guarantee alert delivery in the event
of a server power failure.
Reset and Failure Sequence Replay
Captures and stores server video text to assist in locating startup problems and causes of failure; information is
available for replay on demand
Compaq Insight Manager Integration
Fully integrates with Compaq Insight Manager under key operating environments providing hardware-based
asynchronous server manageability; supports full out-of-band SNMP management
Integrated with SmartStart
Fully configurable through the SmartStart interview process
Integration with Compaq Survey
Utilizing industry-standard browsers, users can access the Compaq Survey configuration file, providing the latest
server configuration information to assist in the diagnostic process.
User Administration
Supports up to 12 users with customizable access rights, each with individual log in, password and call back to
ensure security.
Alert Administration
Provides support for alphanumeric or numeric paging, as well as SNMP trap delivery to an Insight Manager console.
With network only access, the board cannot send paging alerts. Access is required either with the onboard modem or
an external modem for the administrator to receive paging alerts.
