Glass door pan ls
To meet the relevant Standards of
Domesti ooking applian es, all the
glass panels on this applian e are
toughened to meet the fragmentation
requirements of BS3193. This ensures
that, in the unlikely event that a panel
breaks, it does so into small fragments
to minimise the risk of injury.
Please take are when handling, using
or leaning all glass panels as any
damage to the surfa es or edges may
result in the glass breaking without
warning or apparent ause at a later
date. Should any glass panel be
damaged, we strongly re ommend
that it is repla ed immediately.
Th cooling fan
When the applian e is swit hed on,
you may hear the ooling fan ome

Pans
For optimum safety and performan e, we
re ommend the use of flat bottomed pans
with a base diameter of minimum 100mm
(4”) and maximum 250mm (10”).
Do not use double pans, rim based
pans, old misshapen pans or any pan
whi h is unstable when pla ed on a
flat surfa e.
Position pans over the entre of the
burners, resting on the pan supports.
If positioned off entre, smaller pans
may be unstable.
When ooking with fat or oil, never
leave unattended.
Turn pan handles to a safe position,
so they are out of rea h of hildren,
not overhanging the applian e, and
annot be aught a identally.
Commer ial simmering aids should
not be used as they reate ex essive
temperatures that an damage the
surfa e and may ause a hazard.
Pan supports
Always make sure the pan supports
are repla ed orre tly, and lo ated in
the hob spillage well.
To sav gas
IUse the size of pan most suited to
the size of the burner - ie; larger
pans on the larger burners, smaller
pans on the smaller burners.
IAdjust the flames so that they do
not li k up the sides of the pan.
IPut lids on sau epans and only heat
the amount of liquid you need.
IWhen liquids boil, redu e the ontrol
setting to maintain a simmer.
IConsider the use of a pressure
ooker for the ooking of a
omplete meal.
IPotatoes and vegetables will ook
qui ker if hopped into smaller pie es.
Th fold down lid
Caution: Glass lids may shatter when
heated. Turn off all the burners before
shutting the lid.
When opening and losing the lid, use
the ooler outer sides of the lid glass.
The lid must be opened fully, so there
is no danger of it losing while the hob
is being used.
The applian e is fitted with a safety
system, whi h will automati ally turn
off the hotplate burner ontrols if they
are inadvertently left on as the lid is
losed.
The lid is not intended to be used as a
work surfa e, as it be omes hot when
any part of the ooker is in use, and
the surfa e may be s rat hed if items
with rough or sharp surfa es are
pla ed on it.

low shelf position.
The grill trivet, inside the grill pan, an
be inverted to give a high or low
position, or it may be removed.
The HIGH trivet position is suitable for
toasting bread.
The LOW trivet position is suitable for
grilling all types of meat & fish.
With the grill trivet removed the food is
pla ed dire tly on the base of the grill
pan - eg; when ooking whole fish or
browning dishes su h as auliflower
heese.

Using th top ov n
The top oven an be used in the same
way as the main oven, to ook the full
range of dishes, but it is a SECONDARY
oven and there are some differen es.
Foods ooked in the top oven should
be in relation to the oven size. Larger
dishes, or food whi h may rise during
ooking, should be ooked in the
main oven.
Large items, wide tins and tall items
su h as ri h fruit akes should be
ooked in the main oven to obtain
optimum results.
Not s:
When using the top oven as part of the
ooking pro ess, hot air is expelled
through a vent at the top of the oven.
When opening the top oven door,
are should be taken to avoid any pos-
sible onta t with potentially hot air,
sin e this may ause dis omfort to
people with sensitive skin. We re -
ommend that you hold the underneath
of the oven door handle.
Pr h ating
Always preheat the top oven for
15 minutes. However, if the main
oven is being used at the same time,
then preheating may not be ne essary.
The ooking time may need to be
shortened slightly, or the ooking
temperature adjusted, to allow for
heat transfer from the main oven to
the top oven if both ovens are used
together.
Preheat the main oven for 15 minutes.
If you are not preheating the ovens,
the ooking times in the baking guides
may need to be extended, as they are
based on a preheated oven.
The ovens must be preheated when
reheating frozen or hilled foods, and
we re ommend preheating for yeast
mixtures, batters, soufflés and whisked
sponges.
Put the oven shelves in the position
required before preheating the oven.

Zon s of h at
The temperature at the c ntr of the
oven orresponds with the sele ted gas
mark and is slightly higher towards the
top of the oven and slightly lower
towards the oven base.
These zones of heat an be useful as
different dishes requiring different
temperatures an be ooked at the
same time, when more than one shelf
is used.
The temperature at the oven base is
suitable for ooking baked vegetables,
baked fruit, milk pudding et , and for
warming bread rolls, soup, offee, or
ovenproof plates and dishes.
If you find that over a period of time,
the oven be omes hotter when used at
a parti ular gas mark, the thermostat
may need to be repla ed.
Ov n furnitur
Baking tray and roasting tins
For best ooked results and even
browning, the maximum size baking
trays and roasting tins that should be
used are as follows;
Baking tray 350mm x 330mm
Roasting tin 370mm x 320mm
Position baking trays and roasting tins
on the middle of the shelves, and leave
one lear shelf position between
shelves, to allow for ir ulation of heat.
Ov n sh lv s
Extra shelves may be ordered from
your lo al supplier.
The oven shelf must be positioned with
the upstand at the rear of the oven and
fa ing upwards.
You will see that there are differen es
between the oven shelves for the top
oven and the main oven.
The top oven shelf helps to ensure
even baking in the top oven. It has a
rear defle tor fitted to it, and is not
intended for use in the main oven.
Slow cooking
Make sure that frozen foods are
thoroughly THAWED before ooking.
Do not slow ook joints of meat or
poultry weighing more than 21⁄4kg /
41⁄2lb.
Always use the top half of the oven for
slow ooking.
For roasting joints of meat or poultry,
and for pot roasts preheat the oven to
gas mark 6 and ook for 30 minutes,
then adjust the oven ontrol to the “S”
slow setting for the remainder of the
ooking time.
Slow ooking times will be about three
times as long as onventional ooking
times.

Traditional fruit cak s
It should be remembered that ovens
an vary over time, therefore ooking
times an vary, making it diffi ult to be
pre ise when baking fruit akes.
It is ne essary therefore, to test the
ake before removal from the oven.
Use a fine warmed skewer inserted
into the entre of the ake. If the
skewer omes out lean, then the ake
is ooked.
IDo not attempt to make Christmas
akes larger than the oven an ope
with, you should allow at least
25mm (1 in h) spa e between the
oven walls and the tin.
IAlways follow the temperatures
re ommended in the re ipe.
ITo prote t a very ri h fruit ake
during ooking, tie 2 layers of
brown paper around the tin.
IWe re ommend that the ake tin is
not stood on layers of brown
paper, as this an hinder effe tive
ir ulation of air.
IDo not use soft tub margarine for
ri h fruit akes, unless spe ified in
the re ipe.
IAlways use the orre t size and
shape of tin for the re ipe quantities.
Roast turk y
Roasting turkey involves ooking two
different types of meat - the deli ate
light breast meat, whi h must not be
allowed to dry out, and the darker leg
meat, whi h takes longer to ook.
The turkey must be roasted long
enough for the legs to ook, so
frequent basting is ne essary. The
breast meat an be overed on e
browned.
IAlways make sure that the turkey
is ompletely thawed and that
the giblets are removed before
ooking.
ITurkey should be roasted at gas
mark 5 for 20 minutes per lb, plus
20 minutes, unless pa kaging
advises otherwise.
IThe turkey an be open roasted,
breast side down, for half of the
ook time, and then turned over for
the remainder of the ooking time.
IIf the turkey is stuffed, add 5
minutes per lb to the ooking time.
IIf roasting turkey overed with
foil, add 5 minutes per 1lb to the
ooking time.
To test if the turkey is ooked, push a
fine skewer into the thi kest part of the
thigh. If the jui es run lear, the turkey
is ooked. If the jui es are still pink,
the turkey will need longer ooking.

Roasting guid
The times given in the roasting guide
are only approximate, be ause the
size and age of the bird will influen e
ooking times as will the shape of a
joint and the proportion of the bone.
Frozen meat should be thoroughly
thawed before ooking. For large
joints it is advisable to thaw overnight.
Frozen poultry should be thoroughly
thawed before ooking. The time
required depends on the size of the
bird - eg; a large turkey may take up
to 48 hours to thaw.
Use of a trivet with a roasting tin will
redu e fat splashing and will help to keep
the oven interior lean. Alternatively,
to help redu e fat splashing, potatoes
or other vegetables an be roasted
around the meat / poultry.
Notes:
IWhen ooking stuffed meat or
poultry al ulate the ooking time
from the total weight of the meat
plus the stuffing.
IFor joints ooked in foil or overed
roasters, and for lidded asseroles,
add 5 minutes per 450g (1lb) to
the al ulated ooking time.
ISmaller joints weighing less than
1.25kg (21⁄2lb) may require 5
minutes per 450g (1lb) extra
ooking time.
IPosition the oven shelf so that the
meat or poultry is in the entre of
