WR-1 Product Specification
The WR-1 is a networked wall remote designed to control background audio in user-defined music zones.
Utilizing Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, it allows users to select background music sources,
inhibit pages and mute sources—all from an attractive, low-profile, wall-mounted panel.

WR-1 Setup and Installation
Setup and Use
The WR-1 is a networked wall remote for use in a Vocia® system. It is designed to control background
audio in a single user-configured music zone. The WR-1 utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology
and after being connected to a PoE capable switch can participate as a physical interface in a Vocia
system. The WR-1 allows the selection of background music input sources, paging inhibit and source
mute from a wall-mounted panel. A backlit liquid crystal display (LCD) facilitates navigation through the
WR-1’s menu. The WR-1’s esthetically pleasing design fits with most room decor.
Installation
Install the unit away from heat sources, such as vents and radiators, and in rooms with adequate
ventilation. Ensure that air can circulate freely behind, beside, and above the unit. Do not exceed the
maximum ambient operating temperature of 18°-108° F (-8° - 42°C). Be aware of conditions in an
enclosed rack that may cause the temperature to exceed ambient room conditions.

WR-1 Front
Display
The WR-1 features a backlit display that provides the user with an easy-to-read interface to view the
menu options and setup screen.
Select Buttons
The two buttons below the Select label are used to choose different functions on the WR-1. The available
functions can be customized in the Vocia Software.
Adjust Buttons
The two buttons below the Adjust label are used to adjust the options of the selected function. Generally,
the image will be the Volume Screen, so the Adjust + and - buttons will generally control the volume of the
zone associated with the WR-1. However, when the Page Inhibit Screen is displayed, for example, the
buttons will turn this function on/off.

WR-1 Back
Device ID
The rotary ID switches give the unit a unique Device ID. The switches are in hexadecimal format. All units
of the same device type must have a unique Device ID to function properly within a Vocia Paging World.
The Factory Default Device ID is 01. A Device ID of 00 is invalid and cannot be used.
To assign a Device ID of hex 07, leave the MSB switch on 0 and turn the LSB switch to 7. Device ID
switches should be set using a 0.1 inch (2.5mm) to 0.12 inch (3.0mm) flat blade screwdriver.
NOTE
Changes made to the Device ID while connected to the network require a power cycle of the device in order to take effect.
Network Connection
The WR-1 has one RJ45 connector that carries control data and power over CobraNet and should be
connected using a shielded CAT5, 5e, 6, or 7 cable.
PoE-enabled network switches or PoE midspan adapters must be used to power the unit. These must be
802.3at Type 1 compliant. The maximum cable distance between any unit and an Ethernet switch is 328
feet (100 meters) when using copper cabling. Additional Ethernet switches and/or fiber-optic cable can be
used to further extend distances between units on a network. Please note that CobraNet limits network
extensions to seven hops (one-way transmissions) within a 100Mb network. If other network traffic shares
an Ethernet switch with the Vocia network, a managed switch should be used with separate VLANs.
The following diagrams illustrate valid network connections for the WR-1.

WR-1 Operation
Menu Structure
The WR-1 has up to four functions that can be configured in the Vocia Software. To pressing the up or
down select buttons will cycle through the programmed menus.
Volume, Source Mute and Source Selection are always available.
Page Inhibit and Zone Mute are enabled or disabled in the Vocia Software on a per-Zone basis.
Display Views
The screens listed below can be cycled through by using the Select, Up and Down buttons:
Volume Screen The Volume Screen is the default display screen. If the WR-1 has not been
operated for a period of sixty seconds The WR-1 will return to this screen.
The display shows a number between 0 and 100 in the top right corner, and a bar
graphic represents the volume setting. As volume increases, the bar lengthens
from left to right as the number increases. At maximum volume, the bar is at full length. At minimum
volume, the bar is replaced with the word Off. While in this function, the Adjust buttons are used to
increase or decrease the Background Music level.
Source Mute Screen
The Source Mute screen provides a mute control for the current selected
background source. The screen shows Source Mute at the top with On or Off
displayed in the lower center of the screen. When Source Mute is on, the
background source is muted and the current background volume setting is stored.
The volume setting will be restored when the mute is off. While in this function the Adjust up button will
enable the mute and the Adjust down button will disable the mute.
Source Screen
The Source screen provides source selection for the associated background music
channels. The top right of the display will show the current and available number of
defined sources. The lower part of the screen will display a customizable label

associated with the currently selected background source. While in this function, the Adjust buttons can
be used to select different background sources. If one or more Background Channels are associated with
the zone, they will be automatically added to the selection list.
Page Inhibit Screen The Page Inhibit screen is optional and can be enabled or disabled in the Vocia
Software. This Page Inhibit screen will display Page Inhibit at the top with On or Off
displayed in the lower center of the screen. When Page Inhibit is on, only
Emergency Page Codes will reach the Zone. While in this function the Adjust up
button will enable Page Inhibit and the Adjust down button will disable page Inhibit.
Device Unavailable Screen
The device will display Not Available if the WR-1 cannot connect to the Vocia
system or is not participating in a Vocia configuration.
Device Information Screen
To access the Device Information Screen, simultaneously press and hold three of
the front panel buttons. The Device Information Screen shows the Device ID, the
system time, and the running firmware Version.
