Thank you for purchasing our tissue
homogenizer HOMEX XS.
This manual for users describes the in-
strument’s functionalities and contains
the operation guidelines. To use the
instrument properly, please read this
manual carefully before use. Keep it for
later reference and troubleshooting.
1.1 Content check

the packing list (see chapter 7) when
you first open the instrument’s
packaging. If you think there is
something wrong with the instrument or
something is missing, please contact us

1.1 Inhaltsprüfung

1.1 Vérification du contenu

This product has been designed for
indoor and non-extreme temperature
conditions use only
The operator should not open or re-
pair the instrument. Opening the instru-
ment will result in a loss of warranty and
may cause serious injury or death. If the
instrument is not working properly or is
defect, only companies approved by the
manufacturer should repair it.
The A.C. power’s grounding should
be sufficiently stable. The 3-pin plug
supplied with HOMEX XS power cable is a
safety device that should be matched
with a suitable grounded socket.
Always place the instrument on a
horizontal, stable, and even surface. The
surface must be resistant to heat and
fluids.
Any liquid in contact with the ma-
chine may cause damage and provide a
significant hazard.
The instrument should be placed in
a dry, cool, and dust-free environment
with no exposure to direct sunlight. The
instrument should be used only in a
well-ventilated environment, with no
corrosive gas or strong disturbing mag-
netic field, away from central heating and
other heat sources.
The main switch is on the rear of the
device, push “I” to power on the device,
and push “O” to power off the device.
Switch off the instrument when you
finished work. Pull out the connector
plug when there are long periods of
inactivity. Cover the instrument with a
cloth or paper to protect it from dust.
Pull the connector plug from the
back at once in the following case and
contact the vendor:
Liquid flowing into the instrument.
Drenched or fire burned.
Abnormal noise or smell.
Instrument dropped or outer shell
damaged.
The instrument does not function
properly.
Keep the connector plug away
from heat and damp. If the supply cord
is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer, its service agent, or
similarly qualified persons, in order to
avoid all risks.

sière, sans exposition directe au soleil.
L'appareil doit être utilisé uniquement
dans un environnement bien ventilé,
sans gaz corrosif ni champ magnétique
perturbateur puissant, loin du chauffage
central et d'autres sources de chaleur.
L'interrupteur principal se trouve
à l'arrière de l'appareil, appuyez sur «I»
pour mettre l'appareil sous tension et sur
«O» pour éteindre l'appareil.
Éteignez l'appareil lorsque vous avez
fini de travailler. Retirez la fiche du con-
necteur en cas d'inactivité prolongée.
Couvrez l'appareil avec un chiffon ou du
papier pour le protéger de la poussière.
Retirez immédiatement la fiche du
connecteur par l'arrière dans les cas suiv-
ants et contactez le vendeur:
Liquide s'écoulant dans l'appareil.
Appareil trempé ou brûlé par le feu.
L’appareil produit du bruit ou une
odeur anormale.
Appareil tombé ou coque
extérieure endommagée.
L'appareil ne fonctionne pas
correctement.
Gardez la fiche du connecteur à
l'abri de la chaleur et de l'humidité. Si le
cordon d'alimentation est endommagé,
il doit être remplacé par le fabricant ou
des personnes de qualification similaire,
afin d'éviter tout risque.

HOMEX XS gelieferte 3-polige Stecker
ist eine Sicherheitsvorrichtung, die mit
einer geeigneten geerdeten Steckdose
kombiniert werden sollte.
Stellen Sie das Gerät immer auf eine
horizontale, stabile und ebene Fläche.
Die Oberfläche muss hitze- und flüssig-
keitsbeständig sein.
Jede Flüssigkeit, die mit der Ma-
schine in Kontakt kommt, kann Schäden
verursachen und eine erhebliche Gefahr
darstellen.
Das Gerät sollte in einer trockenen,
kühlen und staubfreien Umgebung
ohne direkte Sonneneinstrahlung auf-
gestellt werden. Das Gerät sollte nur in
einer gut belüfteten Umgebung ohne
ätzendes Gas oder stark störendes Mag-
netfeld verwendet werden, weit ent-
fernt von Zentralheizung und anderen
Wärmequellen.
Der Hauptschalter befindet sich auf
der Rückseite des Geräts. Drücken Sie
"I", um das Gerät einzuschalten, und
"O", um das Gerät auszuschalten.
Schalten Sie das Gerät aus, wenn Sie
Ihre Arbeit beendet haben. Ziehen Sie
den Stecker heraus, wenn Sie das Gerät
für längere Zeit nicht verwenden. Deck-
en Sie das Gerät mit einem Tuch oder
Papier zum Schutz vor Staub ab.
Ziehen Sie im folgenden Fall sofort
den Stecker von der Rückseite und wen-
den Sie sich an den Händler:
Flüssigkeit floss in das Gerät.
Das Gerät ist durchnässt oder
verbrannt.
Ungewöhnliche Geräusche oder
Gerüche.
Das Gerät ist heruntergefallen oder
weist Aussenschäden auf.
Das Gerät funktioniert nicht mehr
wie erwartet.
Halten Sie den Stecker von Hitze
und Feuchtigkeit fern. Wenn das Ver-
sorgungskabel beschädigt ist, muss es
vom Hersteller oder ähnlich qualifizier-
ten Personen ausgetauscht werden, um
alle Risiken zu vermeiden.

3. Maintenance of the instrument / Wartung des
Gerätes / Maintenance de l’appareil
The HOMEX XS is a rapid, automated
system for the homogenization of diffe-
rent plant tissues. The material (e.g.
roots, leaves, seeds) is inserted into a
BIOREBA extraction bag (Universal
120 x150 mm or Universal-U-form 120
x 150 mm) which contains an appro-
priate amount of extraction buffer. The
filtered homogenized extract can then
be used for downstream applications
such as ELISA, DNA/RNA extraction, etc.
The HOMEX XS homogenizes any kind of
plant tissues without sharp edges (e.g.
stones). Some of the samples must be
pretreated before extraction.
Seeds need presoaking, while wood
slices and thick samples need to be
flattened with a rubber hammer. It is
also recommended to crush fleshy
tissues before extraction.
Up to 100 samples of the size from 0.1 g
to 1 g can be processed per hour. The
buffer volume used is usually 2 –5ml
for BIOREBA Universal extraction bags
(Art. No. 430100) and should not ex-
ceed 3 ml for BIOREBA Universal-U-
form extraction bags (Art. No.
440100). Recommended settings are
given in table 4.2.
Der HOMEX XS ist ein schnelles,
automatisiertes System zur Homoge-
nisierung von unterschiedlichen Pflan-
zengeweben. Das Material (Wurzeln,
Blätter, Samen, usw.) wird in einen
BIOREBA-Extraktionsbeutel (Universal
120 x150 mm oder Universal-U-form
120 x150 mm) eingeführt.
Anschliessend wird eine geeignete
Menge Extraktionspuffer dazu gegeben.
Das filtrierte Extrakt kann dann für
Anwendungen wie ELISA und DNA/RNA
Extraktion verwendet werden.
Der HOMEX XS homogenisiert jede Art
von Gewebe ohne scharfe Kanten (z. B.
Steine). Einige Proben müssen vor der
Homogenisierung vorbehandelt werden.
Samen müssen eingeweicht werden,
während Holzscheiben und dicke
Proben mit einem Gummihammer
abgeflacht werden müssen. Es wird
auch empfohlen, fleischige Gewebe vor
der Extraktion zu zerdrücken.
Pro Stunde können bis zu 100 Proben
mit einer Größe von 0.1 g bis 1 g verar-
beitet werden. Das übliche Puffervolu-
men beträgt 2 bis 5 ml für BIOREBA
Extraktionsbeutel Universal (Art. No.
430100) und sollte 3 ml für BIOREBA
Extraktionsbeutel Universal-U-form
(Art. No.440100) nicht überschreiten.

in der Tabelle 4.2.
Power off the instrument and pull the
connector plug prior to cleaning and
clean the HOMEX XS with a damp
cloth.
Do not use corrosive cleaning reagents
as they may damage the machine.
Remove spills of extraction buffer im-
mediately first with a soft cloth wetted
with water, then wipe dry, in particular
when buffer enters the ball-bearing
head.

Le HOMEX XS est un système automa-
tisé rapide pour l'homogénéisation de
différents tissus végétaux. Le ma- tériel

BIOREBA (Universal 120 x 150 mm ou
Universal-U-form 120 x 150 mm) rempli

d'extraction. L'extrait filtré peut ensuite
être utilisé pour des applications telles
que ELISA et extraction d'ADN/ARN.
Le HOMEX XS homogénéise tout type de
tissu végétal sans extrémité pointues
(par ex. pierres). Certains échantillons
ayant une structure dure doivent être
prétraités avant l'homogénéisation.
Les graines doivent être pré-trempées,
tandis que les rondelles en bois et les
échantillons épais doivent être aplatis

Jusqu'à 100 échantillons d'une taille de
0.1 g à 1 g peuvent être traités par
heure. Le volume de tampon habituel

1. Plug the power supply into a socket
and connect the HOMEX XS with the
power supply cable at the rear of the
machine.
2. Switch on the HOMEX XS using the
button at the back of the device (8) (see
Figure 3).
3. Place a sample into an extraction bag
and add the appropriate amount of buf-
fer. Do not exceed 5 ml for BIOREBA ex-
traction bags Universal and 3 ml for
BIOREBA extraction bags Universal-U-
form.
4. Open the lid and slide the bag
between the aluminum bars (6) (see
Figure 2).
5. Close the lid and pull the handle (2)
to secure the lid (see Figure 1).
Do not tighten too hard as too much
pressure may damage the machine.
6. Set the requested time (according to
table 4.2) with the potentiometer (3) on
the left-hand side and read the time on
the display (4).
7. Set the requested speed (according
to table 4.2) with the potentiometer (5)
on the right-hand side from 0 –100 %.
8. Start the homogenization of the
sample by pressing the start button (1)
on the left front side of the machine.
9. Once the homogenization has been
completed push the handle (2) back-
wards, open the lid and remove the bag.
10. Proceed with the next sample.

2. Schalten Sie den HOMEX XS mit der
Taste auf der Rückseite des Geräts ein
(8) (siehe Abbildung 3).
3. Legen Sie eine Probe in einen Extrak-
tionsbeutel und geben Sie die entspre-
chende Menge Puffer hinzu. Das Volu-
men sollte 5 ml für BIOREBA Extraktions-
beutel Universal und 3ml für BIOREBA
Extraktionsbeutel Universal-U-form nicht
überschreiten.
4. Öffnen Sie den Deckel und schieben
Sie den Beutel zwischen die Aluminium-
stangen (6) (siehe Abbildung 2).
5. Schließen Sie den Deckel und ziehen
Sie den Griff (2) nach unten, um den
Deckel zu sichern (siehe Abbildung 1).
Nicht zu fest anziehen. Zuviel Druck
kann die Maschine beschädigen.
6. Stellen Sie die gewünschte Zeit
(gemäß Tabelle 4.2) mit dem Potentio-
meter (3) auf der linken Seite ein und
lesen Sie die Zeit auf dem Display (4) ab.
7. Stellen Sie die gewünschte Geschwin-
digkeit (gemäß Tabelle 4.2) mit dem
Potentiometer (5) auf der rechten Seite
(0 –100%) ein.
8. Starten Sie die Homogenisierung der
Probe durch Drücken der Starttaste (1)
auf der linken Vorderseite der Maschine.
9. Drücken Sie nach Abschluss der Ho-
mogenisierung den Griff (2) nach hinten,
öffnen Sie den Deckel und entfernen Sie
den Beutel.
10. Fahren Sie mit der nächsten Probe
fort.

tion à ne pas dépasser 5 ml pour les

3ml pour les sacs d’extraction
BIOREBA Universal-U-form.
4. Ouvrez le couvercle et faites glisser le
sac entre les barres en aluminium (6) (voir
Figure 2).
5. Fermez le couvercle et tirez la
poignée (2) pour fixer le couvercle (voir
Figure 1). Ne serrez pas trop fort car
une pression excessive peut
endommager l’appareil.
6. Réglez le temps souhaitée (selon le
tableau 4.2) avec le potentiomètre (3)
sur le côté gauche et lisez le temps sur
l’écran (4).
7. Réglez la vitesse souhaitée (selon le
tableau 4.2) avec le potentiomètre (5)
sur le côté droit (0 –100 %).
8. Démarrez l’homogénéisation
de l’échantillon en appuyant sur le
bouton de démarrage (1) sur le côté
avant gauche de l’appareil.
9. Une fois l’homogénéisation termi-
née, poussez la poignée (2) vers l’arrière,
ouvrez le couvercle et retirez le sac
d’extraction.
10. Passez à l’échantillon suivant.

Do not run the machine without an
extraction bag inserted as the ball-
bearing head (7) might damage the lid.
The machine will stop automatically
when the lid is opened during a homo-
genization process or if the start button
is pressed a second time.

6. FAQ
Instrument won’t start homogeniza-
tion after pressing the start button.
Check that all cables have been
connected correctly.
A sample bag that is too full may
prevent the instrument from working. In
this case loose slightly the handle until the
ball-bearing head starts to rotate. If the
instrument runs correctly, tighten again
the lid. Scan the QR code (video 1) on
this page to watch a short video tutorial.
For certain samples (e.g. seeds) it
may be necessary to pre-treat them
with a rubber mallet. Loosen both
screws as shown in Fig. 4 (does not work
for all models) and raise/lower the lid
according to your samples. Tighten the
screws and proceed with
homogenization. Scan the QR code
(video 2) below for a video tutorial.
Homogenate is spilling out of the
extraction bag during the homogeniza-
tion.
Please do not exceed the volumes
described in table 4.2. When using
BIOREBA extraction bags Universal-
U-form (Art. No.440100), a buffer
volume of 3ml and a sample weight
of 0.5 g should not be exceeded.
For BIOREBA extraction Universal bags
(Art. No. 430100), a buffer volume of
5ml and a sample weight of 1 g should
not be exceeded.
The sample is not homogenized
correctly and non-homogenized par-
ticles are moving to the corners.
Consider using BIOREBA extraction
bags Universal-U-form (Art. No. 440100)
instead of BIOREBA bags Universal
(Art. No.430100). Reducing
homogenization speed may help
preventing particles from moving to
the corners.
Das Gerät startet nicht (Kopf dreht
sich nicht)
Überprüfen Sie, ob alle Kabel rich-
tig angeschlossen wurden.
Ein zu voller Beutel kann das Funk-
tionieren des Gerätes beeinträchtigen.
In diesem Fall lösen Sie leicht den Griff,
bis der Kugellagerkopf anfängt, sich zu
drehen. Wenn das Gerät richtig läuft,
ziehen Sie den Deckel wieder fest.

Während der Homogenisierung
tritt Homogenat aus dem Extraktions-
beutel aus.
Versuchen Sie, die in Tabelle 4.2 be-
schriebenen Volumen nicht zu übersch-
reiten. Bei Verwendung von BIOREBA
Extraktionsbeuteln Universal-U-form
(Art. No. 440100) sollte ein Puffervolu-
men von 3 ml und ein Probengewicht
von 0.5 g nicht überschritten werden. Für
BIOREBA Extraktionsbeutel Universal
(Art. No. 430100), sollte ein Puffervolu-
men von 5 ml und ein Probengewicht
von 1 g nicht überschritten werden.
Die Probe ist nicht korrekt homo-
genisiert und nicht homogenisierte Par-
tikel sammeln sich in den Ecken.
Erwägen Sie die Verwendung von
Extraktionsbeuteln BIOREBA Univer-
sal-U-form (Art. No. 440100) anstatt
BIOREBA Extraktionsbeuteln Universal
(Art. No. 430100). Eine niedrigere
Homogenisierungsgeschwindigkeit
kann dazu beitragen, dass die
Partikel sich nicht in den Ecken
ansammeln.

saire de les pré-écraser avec un marteau
en caoutchouc. Desserrez les deux vis
comme indiqué sur la Fig. 4 (ne
fonctionne pas avec tous les modèles)
et soulevez/abaissez le couvercle à
dependence tu type d’ échantillon.
Resserrez les vis et procédez avec
l’homogénéisation. Scannez le code QR
(vidéo 2) ci-dessous pour obtenir un
video didactique.
L'homogénat se répand hors du sac
d'extraction pendant l'homogénéisation.
Veuillez ne pas dépasser les vo-
lumes décrits dans le tableau 4.2. Lors
de l'utilisation de sacs d'extraction
BIOREBA Universal-U-form (No. Art.
440100), un volume de tampon de 3
ml et un poids d'échantillon de 0.5 g ne
doivent pas être dépassés. Pour les sacs
d’extraction BIOREBA Universal (No.

5ml et un poids d'échantillon de 1 g ne
doivent pas être dépassés.
L'échantillon n'est pas homogéné-
isé correctement et les particules non
homogénéisées finissent dans les coins

Envisagez d’utiliser les sacs
d'extraction BIOREBA Universal-U-form
(No. Art. 440100) au lieu des sacs
BIOREBA Universal (No. Art. 430100).
Diminuer la vitesse d’homogénéisation
peut aider à empêcher les particules de
se déplacer vers les coins.
