Thank you for purchasing our tissue
homogenizer HOMEX XS.
This manual for users describes the in-
strument’s functionalities and contains
the operation guidelines. To use the
instrument properly, please read this
manual carefully before use. Keep it for
later reference and troubleshooting.
1.1 Content check
Please check the content according to
the packing list (see chapter 7) when
you first open the instrument’s
packaging. If you think there is
something wrong with the instrument or
something is missing, please contact us
immediately.

1.1 Inhaltsprüfung

nung sind, dass etwas mit dem Gerät
nicht stimmt oder etwas fehlt, setzen

1.1 Vérification du contenu

Safe Operating Procedures:
The operation, maintenance and repair
of the instrument should comply with the
basic usage guidelines and the warnings
listed below. Failure to comply will affect
the life span of the instrument and will
result in the invalidation of the warranty.
Do not:
use the instrument for anything
other than its intended use.
carry the instrument by the handle.
use a different power supply
than the one supplied
(Art. No. 400028).
open the lid while the instrument
is running.
use the instrument if the cable to
the power supply is damaged.

This product has been designed for
indoor and non-extreme temperature
conditions use only
The operator should not open or re-
pair the instrument. Opening the instru-
ment will result in a loss of warranty and
may cause serious injury or death. If the
instrument is not working properly or is
defect, only companies approved by the
manufacturer should repair it.
The A.C. power’s grounding should
be sufficiently stable. The 3-pin plug
supplied with HOMEX XS power cable is a
safety device that should be matched
with a suitable grounded socket.
Always place the instrument on a
horizontal, stable, and even surface. The
surface must be resistant to heat and
fluids.
Any liquid in contact with the ma-
chine may cause damage and provide a
significant hazard.
The instrument should be placed in
a dry, cool, and dust-free environment
with no exposure to direct sunlight. The
instrument should be used only in a
well-ventilated environment, with no
corrosive gas or strong disturbing mag-
netic field, away from central heating and
other heat sources.
The main switch is on the rear of the
device, push “I” to power on the device,
and push “O” to power off the device.
Switch off the instrument when you
finished work. Pull out the connector
plug when there are long periods of
inactivity. Cover the instrument with a
cloth or paper to protect it from dust.
Pull the connector plug from the
back at once in the following case and
contact the vendor:
Liquid flowing into the instrument.
Drenched or fire burned.
Abnormal noise or smell.
Instrument dropped or outer shell
damaged.
The instrument does not function
properly.
Keep the connector plug away
from heat and damp. If the supply cord
is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer, its service agent, or
similarly qualified persons, in order to
avoid all risks.

Placez toujours l'appareil sur une
surface horizontale et stable. La surface
doit être résistante à la chaleur et aux
liquides.
Tout liquide qui entre en contact
avec la machine peut causer des dom-
mages et présenter un risque important.
L'appareil doit être placé dans un
environnement sec, frais et sans pous-
sière, sans exposition directe au soleil.
L'appareil doit être utilisé uniquement
dans un environnement bien ventilé,
sans gaz corrosif ni champ magnétique
perturbateur puissant, loin du chauffage
central et d'autres sources de chaleur.
L'interrupteur principal se trouve
à l'arrière de l'appareil, appuyez sur «I»
pour mettre l'appareil sous tension et sur
«O» pour éteindre l'appareil.
Éteignez l'appareil lorsque vous avez
fini de travailler. Retirez la fiche du con-
necteur en cas d'inactivité prolongée.
Couvrez l'appareil avec un chiffon ou du
papier pour le protéger de la poussière.
Retirez immédiatement la fiche du
connecteur par l'arrière dans les cas suiv-
ants et contactez le vendeur:
Liquide s'écoulant dans l'appareil.
Appareil trempé ou brûlé par le feu.
L’appareil produit du bruit ou une
odeur anormale.
Appareil tombé ou coque
extérieure endommagée.
L'appareil ne fonctionne pas
correctement.
Gardez la fiche du connecteur à
l'abri de la chaleur et de l'humidité. Si le
cordon d'alimentation est endommagé,
il doit être remplacé par le fabricant ou
des personnes de qualification similaire,
afin d'éviter tout risque.

Die Erdung der Wechselstrom-
versorgung sollte ausreichend stabil
sein. Der mit dem Stromkabel vom
HOMEX XS gelieferte 3-polige Stecker
ist eine Sicherheitsvorrichtung, die mit
einer geeigneten geerdeten Steckdose
kombiniert werden sollte.
Stellen Sie das Gerät immer auf eine
horizontale, stabile und ebene Fläche.
Die Oberfläche muss hitze- und flüssig-
keitsbeständig sein.
Jede Flüssigkeit, die mit der Ma-
schine in Kontakt kommt, kann Schäden
verursachen und eine erhebliche Gefahr
darstellen.
Das Gerät sollte in einer trockenen,
kühlen und staubfreien Umgebung
ohne direkte Sonneneinstrahlung auf-
gestellt werden. Das Gerät sollte nur in
einer gut belüfteten Umgebung ohne
ätzendes Gas oder stark störendes Mag-
netfeld verwendet werden, weit ent-
fernt von Zentralheizung und anderen
Wärmequellen.
Der Hauptschalter befindet sich auf
der Rückseite des Geräts. Drücken Sie
"I", um das Gerät einzuschalten, und
"O", um das Gerät auszuschalten.
Schalten Sie das Gerät aus, wenn Sie
Ihre Arbeit beendet haben. Ziehen Sie
den Stecker heraus, wenn Sie das Gerät
für längere Zeit nicht verwenden. Deck-
en Sie das Gerät mit einem Tuch oder
Papier zum Schutz vor Staub ab.
Ziehen Sie im folgenden Fall sofort
den Stecker von der Rückseite und wen-
den Sie sich an den Händler:
Flüssigkeit floss in das Gerät.
Das Gerät ist durchnässt oder
verbrannt.
Ungewöhnliche Geräusche oder
Gerüche.
Das Gerät ist heruntergefallen oder
weist Aussenschäden auf.
Das Gerät funktioniert nicht mehr
wie erwartet.
Halten Sie den Stecker von Hitze
und Feuchtigkeit fern. Wenn das Ver-
sorgungskabel beschädigt ist, muss es
vom Hersteller oder ähnlich qualifizier-
ten Personen ausgetauscht werden, um
alle Risiken zu vermeiden.

3. Maintenance of the instrument / Wartung des
Gerätes / Maintenance de l’appareil
The HOMEX XS is a rapid, automated
system for the homogenization of diffe-
rent plant tissues. The material (e.g.
roots, leaves, seeds) is inserted into a
BIOREBA extraction bag (Universal
120 x150 mm or Universal-U-form 120
x 150 mm) which contains an appro-
priate amount of extraction buffer. The
filtered homogenized extract can then
be used for downstream applications
such as ELISA, DNA/RNA extraction, etc.
The HOMEX XS homogenizes any kind of
plant tissues without sharp edges (e.g.
stones). Some of the samples must be
pretreated before extraction.
Seeds need presoaking, while wood
slices and thick samples need to be
flattened with a rubber hammer. It is
also recommended to crush fleshy
tissues before extraction.
Up to 100 samples of the size from 0.1 g
to 1 g can be processed per hour. The
buffer volume used is usually 2 –5ml
for BIOREBA Universal extraction bags
(Art. No. 430100) and should not ex-
ceed 3 ml for BIOREBA Universal-U-
form extraction bags (Art. No.
440100). Recommended settings are
given in table 4.2.
Der HOMEX XS ist ein schnelles,
automatisiertes System zur Homoge-
nisierung von unterschiedlichen Pflan-
zengeweben. Das Material (Wurzeln,
Blätter, Samen, usw.) wird in einen
BIOREBA-Extraktionsbeutel (Universal
120 x150 mm oder Universal-U-form
120 x150 mm) eingeführt.
Anschliessend wird eine geeignete
Menge Extraktionspuffer dazu gegeben.
Das filtrierte Extrakt kann dann für
Anwendungen wie ELISA und DNA/RNA
Extraktion verwendet werden.
Der HOMEX XS homogenisiert jede Art
von Gewebe ohne scharfe Kanten (z. B.
Steine). Einige Proben müssen vor der
Homogenisierung vorbehandelt werden.
Samen müssen eingeweicht werden,
während Holzscheiben und dicke
Proben mit einem Gummihammer
abgeflacht werden müssen. Es wird
auch empfohlen, fleischige Gewebe vor
der Extraktion zu zerdrücken.
Pro Stunde können bis zu 100 Proben
mit einer Größe von 0.1 g bis 1 g verar-
beitet werden. Das übliche Puffervolu-
men beträgt 2 bis 5 ml für BIOREBA
Extraktionsbeutel Universal (Art. No.
430100) und sollte 3 ml für BIOREBA
Extraktionsbeutel Universal-U-form
(Art. No.440100) nicht überschreiten.
Empfohlene Einstellungen finden Sie
in der Tabelle 4.2.
Power off the instrument and pull the
connector plug prior to cleaning and
clean the HOMEX XS with a damp
cloth.
Do not use corrosive cleaning reagents
as they may damage the machine.
Remove spills of extraction buffer im-
mediately first with a soft cloth wetted
with water, then wipe dry, in particular
when buffer enters the ball-bearing
head.
Schalten Sie das Gerät aus, ziehen Sie
vor der Reinigung den Stecker und
reinigen Sie den HOMEX XS mit einem
feuchten Tuch.
Verwenden Sie nicht ätzende
Reinigungsmittel, die die Maschine
beschädigen könnten. Ausgelaufener
Extraktionspuffer sofort mit einem mit
Wasser angefeuchteten weichen Tuch
entfernen und dann trocken wischen,
insbesondere, wenn Puffer in den
kugelgelagerten Kopf gelangt.

endommager la machine. Retirez
immédiatement le tampon d'extraction

d'eau, puis essuyez-le, en particulier si
le tampon pénètre dans la tête de
broyage.
Le HOMEX XS est un système automa-
tisé rapide pour l'homogénéisation de
différents tissus végétaux. Le ma- tériel
(racines, feuilles, graines, etc.) est
introduit dans un sac d'extraction
BIOREBA (Universal 120 x 150 mm ou
Universal-U-form 120 x 150 mm) rempli
d'une quantité appropriée de tampon
d'extraction. L'extrait filtré peut ensuite
être utilisé pour des applications telles
que ELISA et extraction d'ADN/ARN.
Le HOMEX XS homogénéise tout type de
tissu végétal sans extrémité pointues
(par ex. pierres). Certains échantillons
ayant une structure dure doivent être
prétraités avant l'homogénéisation.
Les graines doivent être pré-trempées,
tandis que les rondelles en bois et les
échantillons épais doivent être aplatis
avec un marteau en caoutchouc. Il est
également recommandé d'écraser les
tissus charnus avant l'extraction.

Jusqu'à 100 échantillons d'une taille de
0.1 g à 1 g peuvent être traités par
heure. Le volume de tampon habituel
est de 2 à 5 ml pour les sacs d’extraction
BIOREBA (Universal, No. Art. 430100)
et ne devrait pas dépasser les 3 ml pour
les sacs d’extraction BIOREBA (Universal-
U-form, No. Art. 440100). Les
paramètres recommandes se trouvent
dans le tableau 4.2.
