1 Einleitung
Die vorliegende Ergänzung zur Betriebsanleitung
DB-300 beschränkt sich auf die Besonderheiten des
Einsatzes dieser Ölabscheider in explosionsgefährde-
ten Bereichen (Ölabscheider in Ex-Schutz-Sonderaus-
führung). Darüber hinaus gilt auch die Betriebsanlei-
tung DB-300.
Der Einsatz dieser Ölabscheider in explosionsgefähr-
deten Bereichen ist nur in Verbindung mit den Schrau-
benverdichtern OS.(A)74-EX zugelassen. Deshalb
müssen ebenso die entsprechenden BITZER-Betriebs-
anleitungen SB-500 und SB-509 beachtet werden.
Diese Ölabscheider sind zum Einbau in Kälteanlagen
entsprechend der EU-Maschinenrichtlinie 2006/42/EG
und der EU-Druckgeräterichtlinie 2014/68/EU vorgese-
hen, die in Bereichen aufgestellt werden, die der EU-
Explosionsschutzrichtlinie 2014/34/EU unterliegen
(ATEX 114).
Sie dürfen nur in Betrieb genommen werden, wenn sie
gemäß der Standardbetriebsanleitung DB-300, dieser
Ergänzung und den Anleitungen für Schraubenverdich-
ter SB-500 und SB-509 eingebaut worden sind und als
Ganzes mit den entsprechenden gesetzlichen Vor-
schriften übereinstimmen (angewandte Normen: siehe
Einbauerklärung).
Die Ölabscheider sind speziell für den Einsatz in Zone
1 und 2 (ATEX) entsprechend EU-Richtlinie 1999/92/
EG (ATEX 137) ausgeführt und genügen den Anforde-
rungen der ATEX-Kennzeichnung Ex II 2G Ex h IIB T4
Gb X, bzw. Ex II 2G Ex h IIC T4 Gb X. Sie sind nach
dem aktuellen Stand der Technik und entsprechend
den geltenden Vorschriften gebaut. Auf die Sicherheit
der Anwender wurde besonderer Wert gelegt.
Die Ex-relevanten Informationen (Zonenbereiche, Ex-
plosionsgruppe, Temperaturklasse, etc.) müssen vom
Betreiber festgelegt und im Explosionsschutzdokument
festgehalten werden.
Vor Inbetriebnahme des Systems muss der Betreiber
den fertigen Anlagenaufbau durch eine benannte Stelle
bewerten und abnehmen lassen.
Diese Betriebsanleitung, die EU-Konformitätserklärun-
gen (ggf. Baumusterprüfbescheinigungen) und die Her-
stellerdokumentation der eingesetzten Bauteile wäh-
rend der gesamten Verdichterlebensdauer an der Käl-
teanlage verfügbar halten.

2 Sicherheit
2.1 Autorisiertes Fachpersonal
Sämtliche Arbeiten an Ölabscheidern und Kälteanlagen
dürfen nur ausgeführt werden von qualifiziertem, autori-
siertem und speziell auf dem Gebiet des Explosions-
schutzes unterwiesenem Fachpersonal. Für die Qualifi-
kation und Sachkunde des Fachpersonals gelten die je-
weils landesüblichen Vorschriften und Richtlinien.

2.3 Sicherheitshinweise speziell für den Einsatz in
Zone 1 und 2
GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch heiße Oberflächen!
An keiner Stelle darf eine Oberflächentempera-
tur von 130°C überschritten werden!
GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch Funkenbildung!
Zündquellen und offenes Feuer unbedingt ver-
meiden!
Ausschließlich funkenarme Werkzeuge verwen-
den!
Mobiltelefone ausschalten!
GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch Staub und Öl!
Verunreinigungen unbedingt vermeiden!
Gesamte Anlage nach Bedarf, aber mindestens
halbjährlich, reinigen.
GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch Entladung elektrostati-
scher Aufladung!
Nur für explosionsfähige Atmosphären geeigne-
te Geräte verwenden und diese entsprechend
im betreiberseitigen Explosionsschutzdokument
bewerten und festhalten!
Geräte nicht in der Nähe von hochaufladenden
Prozessen betreiben (z. B. mechanische Trenn-
prozesse)!
Maßnahmen gegen elektrostatische Aufladung
von nichtmetallischen Bauteilen, Werkzeugen,
Hilfsmitteln sowie Kleidung treffen!
Z. B. Geeignete, antistatische Kleidung tragen,
funkenarme Werkzeuge verwenden, zur Reini-
gung feuchtes Tuch verwenden, zusätzliche Er-
dung leitfähiger Teile vornehmen.
Zusätzlich zur EU-Explosionsschutzrichtlinie 2014/34/
EU (ATEX 114) und den in der Standard-Betriebsanlei-
tung aufgeführten Sicherheitsvorschriften müssen die
spezifischen Vorschriften EN60079, 80079-36, -37, EU-
Richtlinie 1999/92/EG (ATEX 137) beachtet werden!

3.1 Typschild
Die spezielle Druckbehälterausführung für den Einsatz
in Zone 1 und 2 entsprechend der ATEX-Kennzeich-
nung Ex II 2G Ex h IIB T4 Gb X, bzw. Ex II 2G Ex h IIC
T4 Gb X ist durch den Zusatz "EX" in der Typenbe-
zeichnung gekennzeichnet.

Für die Druckbehälter mit Standardlackierung und Mari-
nelackierung ohne Warnaufkleber bzgl. Elektrostatik
wird folgende Kennzeichnung vergeben:

Für die Druckbehälter mit Standardlackierung und Mari-
nelackierung mit Warnaufkleber bzgl. Elektrostatik oder
bei Verwendung einer elektrisch ableitfähigen Lackie-
rung wird folgende Kennzeichnung vergeben:

3.3 Zone bestimmen
Vor der Montage muss die Zone des explosionsgefähr-
deten Bereichs durch den Betreiber bestimmt und im
Explosionsschutzdokument festgehalten werden. Die
Eignung des Geräts für die ermittelte Zone muss fest-
gestellt werden.

Explosionsgefahr durch elektrostatische Entla-
dung!
Bei Einsatz der Verdichter oder Druckbehälter in
Gasgruppe IIC dürfen diese nur in abgeschalte-
ten Zustand und in frei gemessener Atmosphäre
berührt werden.
Arbeiten niemals in einer explosionsfähigen At-
mosphäre durchführen.
Dies gilt für die Standard-, als auch für den Ma-
rinelackierung.
3.4 Aufstellungsort
Wenn der Verdichter oder Druckbehälter im Außenbe-
reich aufgestellt ist, müssen geeignete bauliche Maß-
nahmen ergriffen werden (z.B. Wetterschutz, Blitzablei-
ter), damit die Funktion der Kälteanlage und speziell
der Explosionsschutz durch äußere Einflüsse nicht be-
einträchtigt wird.
Die Kälteanlage darf nur in einer Temperatur zwischen
-20°C und +60°C aufgestellt werden! Die Oberflächen-
temperatur des Verdichters darf nicht unterhalb des
Taupunkts der Umgebung liegen!

4 Montage
Die Anlage muss entsprechend der Prinzipschaltbilder
in der Betriebsanleitung SB-509 aufgebaut sein.
Herstellerdokumentation der eingesetzten Bauteile be-
achten!
Zusätzliche Bauteile (z. B. Verteiler) müssen die Anfor-
derungen der ATEX-Richtlinie (z. B. EU-Baumuster-
prüfbescheinigung) erfüllen. Bei der Kombination von
Bauteilen (z. B. Motor mit Verdichter) müssen die Ein-
satzbedingungen der Bauteile beachtet werden. Nur
wenn diese eingehalten werden, kann davon ausge-
gangen werden, dass keine neuen Zündquellen entste-
hen und die Konformität der Produkte mit der Richtlinie
erhalten bleibt.
Einfache Elektrische Betriebsmittel (EEB)
Diese Bauteile benötigen keine EU-Baumusterprüfbe-
scheinigung, müssen jedoch im sicheren Bereich durch
Vorschalten einer ATEX-bescheinigten Energiebegren-
zung (Trennschaltverstärker) gesichert werden. Diese
eigensicheren Schaltkreise sind besonders zu kenn-
zeichnen (blaues Kabel) und die Kabelverlegung unter-
liegt besonderen Anforderungen. Ebenso ist die Einhal-
tung der Eigensicherheit (U, I, L, C) durch den Betrei-
ber nachzuweisen (siehe EN 60079-14).

GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch Eintritt von Fremdgas!
Bei Betrieb außerhalb der zulässigen Einsatz-
grenzen und/oder nicht ausreichender Ölküh-
lung sowie im Unterdruck kann es zum Eintritt
von Fremdgas kommen.
Anlage nicht im Unterdruck und nur innerhalb
der zulässigen Einsatzgrenzen betreiben und
durch entsprechende Sicherheitseinrichtungen
(z. B. Niederdruckwächter) absichern!
Ausreichend dimensionierten Wärmetauscher
einsetzen!
GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch Schwingungen an
Rohrleitungen!
Schwingungen an Rohrleitungen können zu er-
höhten Oberflächentemperaturen an den Roh-
ren führen.
Die Anlage so konzipieren, dass an den Rohrlei-
tungen keine Schwingungen entstehen können!
4.1 Lieferumfang
Im Lieferumfang der Ölabscheider in Ex-Schutz-Son-
derausführung sind Ölthermostat, Ölniveauwächter und
Ex-geschützte Ölheizung enthalten. Um Transportschä-
den zu vermeiden werden diese Bauteile als Beipack
ausgeliefert.
• Überdruck am Wartungsanschluss 5 (Schraderventil)
ablassen (siehe Kapitel Anschlüsse, Seite 7).
WARNUNG

4.3 Ölthermostat montieren
Anlage ausschließlich mit Ölthermostat betreiben!
• Stopfen entfernen (siehe Kapitel Anschlüsse, Seite
7, Position 6).
• Ölthermostat (siehe Kapitel Montage, Seite 6, "Einfa-
che Elektrische Betriebsmittel") in Tauchhülse ein-
setzen.
• Fixierungsschraube anziehen.

Ölthermostat!
Ausschließlich einen für den Einsatz in explosi-
onsfähiger Atmosphäre geeigneten Ölthermo-
stat verwenden und mit Trennschaltverstärker

4.4 Ölheizung montieren
Angaben in der Betriebsanleitung des Heizungsherstel-
lers beachten!

zung!
Ausschließlich eine für den Einsatz in explosi-
onsfähiger Atmosphäre zugelassene und von
BITZER freigegebene Ölheizung verwenden!

• Hinweis: Keine Tauchhülse vorhanden. Behälter vor
dem Öffnen entlasten, z. B. durch Absaugen!
• Stopfen und Dichtung entfernen (siehe Kapitel An-
schlüsse, Seite 7, Position 7).
• Neue Alu-Dichtung einlegen und Ölheizung ein-
schrauben. Anzugsmoment 90 Nm (M22).

• Hinweis: Keine Tauchhülse vorhanden. Behälter vor
dem Öffnen entlasten, z. B. durch Absaugen!
• Schauglas und Dichtung entfernen.

Dabei Heizelement nach unten positionieren.
• Heizung mit Flansch befestigen. Schrauben über
Kreuz und in mindestens zwei Schritten anziehen.

4.5 Ölniveauwächter montieren
• siehe Kapitel Montage, Seite 6, "Einfache Elektri-
sche Betriebsmittel".
• Behälter vor dem Öffnen entlasten, z. B. durch Ab-
saugen!
• Verschlussmutter und alte Dichtung entfernen (siehe
Kapitel Anschlüsse, Seite 7, Position 8).
• Neue Dichtung einsetzen.
• Ölniveauwächter mit Schwimmerkugel nach unten
montieren.
• Überwurfmutter aufschrauben. Anzugsmoment siehe
Wartungsanleitung DW-100.
4.6 Ölabscheider isolieren

Schutzgeräte entsprechend der Prinzipschaltbilder in

Herstellerdokumentation der eingesetzten Bauteile be-
achten!
Angaben auf den Typschildern mit den Angaben des
vorhandenen Stromnetzes vergleichen. Geräte nur bei
Übereinstimmung der Typschilddaten mit den Netzver-
hältnissen anschließen.

5.1 Ölthermostat
Anlage ausschließlich mit Ölthermostat betreiben!
Der Ölthermostat (siehe Kapitel Montage, Seite 6, "Ein-
fache Elektrische Betriebsmittel") schaltet die Ölhei-
zung im Stillstand der Anlage zu, wenn die Öltempera-
tur im Ölabscheider den eingestellten Sollwert unter-
schreitet.
• Sollwert auf 60°C einstellen (oder auf mindestens 20
K über maximaler Umgebungstemperatur)
• Ölthermostat entsprechend Prinzipschaltbild in ei-
gensicheren Stromkreis einbinden.

Ausschließlich einen für den Einsatz in explosi-
onsfähiger Atmosphäre geeigneten Ölthermo-
stat verwenden und mit Trennschaltverstärker
anschließen!
5.2 Ölheizung
Angaben in der Betriebsanleitung des Heizungsherstel-
lers beachten!
Die Ölheizung verhindert während des Stillstands der
Anlage Rückkondensation von Kältemittel in den Ölab-
scheider. Sie darf nur dann eingeschaltet sein, wenn
der Heizstab vollständig mit Öl bedeckt ist. Deshalb ist
sie über den Ölniveauwächter elektrisch verriegelt (sie-
he Prinzipschaltbild in Betriebsanleitung SB-509). Im
Stillstand der Anlage muss die Funktion der Heizung si-
chergestellt sein, wenn die Öltemperatur im Ölabschei-
der den eingestellten Sollwert des Ölthermostaten un-
terschreitet.
Die Heizleistung ist so dimensioniert, dass die zulässi-
ge Oberflächentemperatur nicht überschritten werden
kann. Die Ölheizung der Typen OA4188(A)-EX bis
OA25112(A)-EX besitzt zusätzlich einen integrierten
Temperaturbegrenzer und einen Temperaturregler.
• Ölheizung entsprechend Prinzipschaltbild in Be-
triebsanleitung SB-509 anschließen.

zung!
Ausschließlich eine für den Einsatz in explosi-
onsfähiger Atmosphäre zugelassene und von
BITZER freigegebene Ölheizung verwenden!
Temperaturbegrenzer der Ölheizung für
OA4188(A)-EX bis OA25112(A)-EX
• Schaltpunkt 100°C.
• Manuelle Störungsentriegelung:
– Deckel der Ölheizung entfernen.
– Taster drücken (siehe Abbildung 6, Seite 9, Po-
sition 1).
– Deckel der Ölheizung sorgfältig wieder aufschrau-
ben. Angaben in der Betriebsanleitung des Hei-
zungsherstellers beachten!
Temperaturregler der Ölheizung für OA4188(A)-EX
bis OA25112(A)-EX
• Deckel der Ölheizung entfernen.
• Sollwert am Stellrad auf 60°C einstellen (oder auf
mindestens 20 K über maximaler Umgebungstempe-
ratur). siehe Abbildung 6, Seite 9, Position 2.
• Deckel der Ölheizung sorgfältig wieder aufschrau-
ben. Angaben in der Betriebsanleitung des Hei-
zungsherstellers beachten!

5.3 Ölniveauwächter
mit Reed-Kontakt. Der Ölniveauwächter (siehe Kapitel
Montage, Seite 6, "Einfache Elektrische Betriebsmittel")
überwacht den minimalen Ölstand im Ölabscheider und
unterbricht bei Ölmangel die Stromversorgung der Öl-
heizung.
• Ölniveauwächter entsprechend Prinzipschaltbild in
eigensicheren Stromkreis einbinden.
• Ölüberdeckung der Heizung sicherstellen!

Ausschließlich einen für den Einsatz in explosi-
onsfähiger Atmosphäre geeigneten Ölniveau-
wächter verwenden und mit Trennschaltverstär-

5.4 Erdung
Alle leitfähigen Bauteile inklusive der Rohrleitungen an
den Potentialausgleich anschließen.
GEFAHR
Explosionsgefahr durch Entladung elektrostati-
scher Aufladung!
Nur für explosionsfähige Atmosphären geeigne-
te Geräte verwenden und diese entsprechend
im betreiberseitigen Explosionsschutzdokument
bewerten und festhalten!

1 Introduction
This supplement to the Operating Instructions DB-300
is limited to the special features of these oil separators
concerning their use in potentially explosive atmo-
spheres (oil separator in a special explosion-proof
design). In addition to this, the Operating Instructions
DB-300 are also applicable.
Using these oil separators in potentially explosive at-
mospheres is only allowed in combination with screw
compressors OS.(A)74-EX. For this reason, the
BITZER Operating Instructions SB-500 and SB-509
must also be adhered to.
According to the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
and the EU Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU,
these oil separators are designed for installation in refri-
geration systems located in areas that are subject to
the EU Explosion Protection Directive 2014/34/EU
(ATEX 114).
They may only be put into operation if they have been
installed according to the standard Operating Instruc-
tions DB-300, this supplement and the Operating In-
structions for screw compressors SB-500 and SB-509
and if the overall system complies with the applicable
legal provisions (applied standards: see declaration of
incorporation).
The oil separators have been designed especially for
use in Zones 1 and 2 (ATEX) according to the EU Dir-
ective 1999/92/EC (ATEX 137) and comply with the re-
quirements of ATEX marking Ex II 2G Ex h IIB T4 Gb X
and Ex II 2G Ex h IIC T4 Gb X, respectively. They have
been built in accordance with state-of-the-art methods
and current regulations. Particular importance has been
placed on user safety.
The Ex-relevant information (zones, explosion group,
temperature class, etc.) must be defined by the end
user and specified in the explosion protection docu-
ment.
Before commissioning the system, the end user must
have the complete system setup assessed and accep-
ted by a notified body.
These Operating Instructions, the EU Declarations of
Conformity (where applicable, type examination certific-
ates) and the manufacturer's documentation of the
components used must be kept available in the vicinity
of the refrigeration system during the entire lifetime of
the compressor.

2 Safety
2.1 Authorized staff
Any work on oil separators and refrigeration systems
may only be performed by qualified and authorised staff
who have been instructed especially in the area of ex-
plosion protection. The local regulations and guidelines
will apply with respect to the qualification and expertise
of the specialists.

3.3 Defining the zone
Before mounting, the zone of the potentially explosive
atmosphere must be defined by the end user and spe-
cified in the explosion protection document. The suitab-
ility of the defined zone must be assessed.

If the compressors or pressure vessels are used
in gas group IIC, they are only allowed to be
touched in the shut-off state and in an atmo-
sphere subjected to a clearance measurement.
Never perform work in a potentially explosive at-
mosphere.
This applies to standard and navy varnishes.

3.4 Place of installation
If the compressor or pressure vessel is installed out-
doors, suitable constructive measures (e.g. weather
protection, lightning conductor) have to be taken to pre-
vent the function of the refrigeration system and espe-
cially the explosion protection from being impaired by
external influences.
The refrigeration system must be installed at a temper-
ature between -20°C and +60°C only! The surface tem-
perature of the compressor must not fall below the dew
point of the environment!
4 Mounting
The system components must be connected according
to the schematic wiring diagrams provided in the Oper-
ating Instructions SB-509.
Observe the manufacturer’s documentation of the com-
ponents used!
Additional components (e.g. distributor) must comply
with the requirements of the ATEX directive (e.g. EU
type examination certificate). If components are com-
bined (e.g. motor and compressor), the components’
conditions of use must be observed. Only when these
conditions are met, it can be assumed that no new igni-
tion sources are generated and the conformity of the
products with regard to the directive is preserved.
Simple electrical equipment (EEB)
These components do not need an EU type examina-
tion certificate but they must be protected in a safe area
by connecting an ATEX-certified power limitation (sec-
tion switch amplifier). These intrinsically safe circuits
must be specially marked (blue cable) and the wiring is
subject to special requirements. The end user must
give evidence of the fulfilment of the intrinsic safety (U,
I, L, C) (see EN 60079-14).

DANGER
Explosion danger due to the entry of non con-
densable gas!
When the system is operated outside the per-
mitted application limits and/or with insufficient
oil cooling and/or at negative pressure, non con-
densable gas may enter the system.
Do not operate the system at negative pressure
and only within the permitted application limits
and protect it by means of suitable safety
devices (e.g. low pressure limiter)!
Use a sufficiently dimensioned heat exchanger!
DANGER
Explosion danger due to vibrations on the
pipelines!
Vibrations on the pipelines may lead to in-
creased surface temperatures on the pipes.
The system must be designed in a way that
generation of vibrations on the pipes is ex-
cluded!
4.1 Extent of delivery
The oil thermostat, the oil level switch, and the explo-
sion-proof oil heater are included in the extent of deliv-
ery of the oil separator in explosion-proof design. To
avoid damages during transport, these components are
delivered separately as accessory kit.
• Release excess pressure at service connection 5

contains connection positions that do not occur in every
oil separator series.
4.3 Mounting the oil thermostat
Do not operate the system without oil thermostat!
• Remove the plug (see chapter Connections, page
17, Position 6).
• Insert the oil thermostat (see chapter Mounting, page
16, "Simple electrical equipment") into the heater
sleeve.
• Tighten the fixing screw.

• Remove plug and seal (see chapter Connections,
page 17, position 7).
• Insert a new aluminium seal and screw down the oil
heater. Tightening torque 90 Nm (M22).
OA4188(A)-EX. OA25112(A)-EX
• Note: No heater sleeve available. Relieve the vessel
of pressure before opening it, for example by extract-
ing its contents!
• Remove sight glass and seal.
• Insert a new seal and the explosion-proof heater.
Make sure that the heating element is facing down-
wards.
• Mount the heater with the flange. Tighten the screws
crosswise in at least two steps. Tightening torque 18
Nm (6 x M10).
4.5 Mounting the oil level switch
• see chapter Mounting, page 16, "Simple electrical
apparatuses".
• Relieve the vessel of pressure before opening it, for
example by extracting its contents!
• Remove the sealing nut and the old seal (see
chapter Connections, page 17, position 8).
• Insert a new seal.
• Mount the oil level switch with the float ball facing
downwards.
• Screw on the union nut. For the tightening torque,
see Maintenance Instructions DW-100.

5.1 Oil thermostat
Do not operate the system without oil thermostat!
During standstill, the oil thermostat (see chapter Mount-
ing, page 16, "Simple electrical equipment") switches
the oil heater on if the oil temperature in the oil separ-
ator drops below the setpoint.
• Adjust the setpoint to 60°C (or at least to a value 20
K above the maximum ambient temperature)
• Incorporate the oil thermostat into the intrinsically
safe circuit according to the schematic wiring dia-
gram.

5.2 Oil heater
Observe the information in the operating instructions of
the heater manufacturer!
During standstill of the system, the oil heater prevents
back condensation of the refrigerant into the oil separ-
ator. It may only be switched on if the heater element is
completely covered with oil. Therefore, it is electrically
locked by the oil level switch (see schematic wiring dia-
gram in the Operating Instructions SB-509). During
standstill of the system, the function of the heater must
be ensured if the oil temperature in the oil separator
drops below the set point of the oil thermostat.
The heating capacity is set to such a value that the
maximum permitted surface temperature cannot be ex-
ceeded. The oil heater for models OA4188(A)-EX to
OA25112(A)-EX has an additional integrated temperat-
ure limiter and a temperature controller.
• Connect the oil heater according to the schematic
wiring diagrams indicated in the Operating Instruc-
tions SB-509.

– Carefully screw on the oil heater cover again. Ob-
serve the information in the operating instructions
of the heater manufacturer!

• Remove the oil heater cover.

5.3 Oil level switch
with Reed contact. The oil level switch (see chapter

monitors the minimum oil level and cuts the power sup-
ply of the oil heater in case of lack of oil.
• Incorporate the oil level switch into the intrinsically
safe circuit according to the schematic wiring dia-
