2. Overview
2.1 Description
Fiber Wall Cabinets are used to link outdoor fiber optic cable to indoor fiber optic cable. In any fiberoptic
application, you must link these two types of cable together. For example, if you are using multimode cable, you
must link the outdoor cable to the indoor cable via mechanical splices and connectors installed in the cabinet.
Or, if you are using single-mode cable, you must use the fusion method to link the outdoor to the indoor cable
inside the cabinet via connectors.
The Fiber Wall Cabinet, Open (JPM401A-R2, see Figure 1) is ideal for non-secure fiber workgroups. The Fiber
Wall Cabinet, Lock Style (JPM402A-R2, see Figure 2) is perfect for secure networks. The lock-style cabinet has
two locking compartments, and the open cabinet has two compartments and one non-locking door. The
compartments on both models are for a user side and a technician side. And both accept up to four standard or
high-density adapter panels with connectors (part numbers JPM404A-R2–JPM405A-R2, JPM408A-R2–JPM412A-
R2, JPM415A-R2–JPM416A-R2, and JPM420A–JPM421A). Install the adapter panels on the compartment plate
of the cabinet.
These compact cabinets are used to terminate up to 48 fibers, and they easily mount on a wall. The cabinet’s
user side is designed for smooth and easy access for patch cords. The cabinet’s rugged metallic housing is made
of heavy gauge steel with baked powder coating finish. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the cabinet accommodates
outside plant cable entry in the technician’s compartment from top left or bottom left. And it’s sealed with thin
membrane rubber grommets for cable entrance holes to keep out insects and prevent dust from settling inside.
The technician’s compartment can accommodate two splice modules (part number JPM440A) stacked atop the
other with the capability for 48 splices. Each splice module accepts 24 fibers with a minimum bending radius of
1.5" (3.8 cm) to avoid fiber breaks.
2.2 What’s Included

3. Installation
3.1 Installing the Cabinet and Cable
1. Open the cabinet’s doors (see Figures 1 and 2 for the cabinets’ inside view) and use a screwdriver to attach
the cabinet to a wall with the four included #9-18 x 1.25" screws. Or, use your own hardware to mount the
cabinet on a block wall.
2. Install the outside plant cable from the cabinet’s top left or bottom left.
3. Place the 4" (10.2-cm) cable ties inside the compartment to hold the cable with a minimum fiber routing
radius of 1.5" (3.8 cm).
3.2 Installing the Splice Trays (Optional)
1. Unfasten two wing head nuts in the middle of the cabinet’s inside.
2. Place one or stack two splice trays (optional, part number JPM440A) at the bottom of the compartment
and the pigtail’s routing guides at the top of the compartment.
3. Re-fasten the wing head nuts.
3.3 Preparing the Cable
1. To unsheath the fiber optic cable, cut the outside jacket of the cable to an approximate length of 0.24"
(0.6 cm). Fasten the cable with the 3" (7.6-cm) cable ties.
2. Splice the fiber optic cable to the pigtail fibers. Splice trays (optional) are used to hold and protect the
completed splices. When splicing the cable, consider the following.
a. Determine and prepare the appropriate length of the fibers to be spliced according to splicing
machine recommendations.
b. The bare fibers to be spliced from pigtails and the outside plant cable must be equal length when
placed on the splice block. The splice block is inside the splice tray (optional) and can be easily
removed for splicing as required.
c. Insert a heat-shrink protective sleeve (optional) to either end of two fiber optic cables to be spliced
before initiating splicing.
3.4 Routing the Cable
1. To route the pigtail, insert the fiber adapters (which contain the connectors for the cable) through the
slot on the inside of the cabinet.
2. After the patch cords are terminated, connect them to the fiber adapter panel, route the excess length of
patch cord cable using the 3" (7.6-cm) cable ties and 1" (2.5-cm) stick-on rectangular cable holders.
3.5 Identifying the Cable
Use the included port ID stickers to identify the fiber adapters by number. Place the cable management sticker
and the warning label on the inside door of the cabinet.
