he Async/Sync Short-Haul
Modem works at distances up
to 11.4 miles (18. km) on one or
two unconditioned 24 AWG
twisted pair. It supports data rates
of up to 57.6 kbps and has a built-
in V.52 BER test pattern generator.
The modem operates in
asynchronous or synchronous
RS-2 2 mode, for half-/full duplex
4-wire or half-duplex 2-wire com-
munication over four wires. It

Async/Sync Short aul Modem
Send data greater distances in just about
any RS-232 UTP or STP application.
KeyFeatures
ASYNC/SYNCSHORT-HAULMODEM
supports point-to-point or multi-
point applications and fully com-
pliant V.54 test modes (local
analog loop and remote digital
loop).
Automatic features include
equalization, gain control, and
noise filtering (a separate filter for
each data rate is built into a
custom VLSI chip).
To combat the many nemeses
of clear data transmission, the
modem includes surge protection
that guards against transients.
Transformer isolation eliminates
ground looping, and a new anti-
streaming timer stops data
streaming.
Front-panel LEDs give a clear
picture of link status, V.54 tests
can be activated remotely or via
the front panel, and the unit can
be externally configured so
there
’ s no need to open the case.
