technical knowledge. To reduce the risk of electrical shock or damage to the equipment, do not perform any
servicing other than the installation and operating instructions contained in this manual unless you are quali-
fied to do so. This device operates in the given voltage and frequency range without requiring manual ad-
justment.
Special symbols that might appear on the equipment:
This symbol indicates that there are dangerous live parts
within the equipment. Do not touch these live parts, because
serious injury or death may be the result.
This symbol indicates that there are components under risk
from electrostatic discharge. To avoid equipment damages do
not touch these components or observe the respective han-
dling rules!
For continued protection against fire, the fuses may only be replaced by identical fuses with the same elec-
trical specifications which are designed for the corresponding fuse positions.

Installation Notes
All types of this device family are 19“ devices with 1 RU high designed for installation in 19” racks. In addi-
tion to the front panel screws an internal module support is required at the rack. At least 1 RU space is re-
quired above the module for heat dissipation in the 19" rack.
Use the necessary back panel connectors according to the respective system design. As soon as
the power cord is connected, the device is ready for operation without any auxiliaries. It is
recommended to use cable type CAT-6E for Gig-Ethernet.
The second power connector is feeding another independent power supply for redundancy. For a maximum
of redundancy both power supplies should use different circuits. The power supplies are designed for 100-
240V AC.

General Description
Edge-QAM EQM 100 is able to feed 24 QAM channels for additional services into distribution networks near
the edge of the subscribers. For smaller networks the EQM 102 with 16 channels or the EQM 102 with 8
channels can be chosen.
The necessary MPEG transport streams are coming over IP-networks as unicast or multicast data packets
encapsulated in UDP format. The payload of the UDP packets are DVB compliant MPEG-2 transport stream
packets. These packets are input of the QAM modulator and the direct digital frequency conversion (DDS).
Output is an RF-signal in the selected frequency range that can directly feed an local CATV networks or HFC
cluster.
For the QAM modulation the standard constellations of 32 to 256 QAM are selectable. The output frequency
is adjustable in the range from 47 MHz to 862 MHz. Necessary conversions of the MPEG transportstream like
PCR-Restamping and "null-packet-insertion" are supported.
Operation and configuration is carried out via the Web browser of a PC or Laptop. For the integration in a
Network management system an Ethernet interface with SNMP agent is implemented.

Reset
After a restart or reset the EQM 10x is operating again after approx. 7 sec. All parameters are stored and
the device will start with the last configuration.
Signalling during restart:
1. Power LED is on, if both power supplies are connected
2. IP LED at the front becomes green when an IP data stream is detected
3. Status LED at the rear becomes green when device is ready
Configuration IP-Address
Although there is only one RJ-45 port each IP interface of the EQM family has two IP addresses. One is the
IP address for control (default: 192.168.200.20) the other is for the streaming data. The streaming data
IP address is configurable with a standard web browser over the control IP address (see next chapter). If
you want to change the IP address of the control port you need an additional software tool named “DQAM
IPConfig”. If you start this program the following menus will come up.

Configuration with Web Interface
Each IP interface of the EQM family has its own web server. The configuration is done with a standard PC
and a web browser. The default IP address for configuration is 192.168.200.20. Please keep in mind that
you have to configure e.g. for the EQM 100 with 3 IP interfaces also three components.
If you connect your browser with the IP-address 192.168.200.20 the following menu appears:

to insert a new NIT into the transport stream the Edge QAM is able to receive a new NIT over the IP network
and to replace it with the already existing NIT in the transport stream.

Software Download
Fig. 11: Software Upgrade
The Upgrade menu allows the download of new software to the Edge QAM. The download procedure is given
below:
1. Make connection from Egde QAM to the standard web browser of a PC
(default IP address: 192.168.200.20)
2. Click on Upgrade and select the new upgrade file
Important:
First download software (e.g. Release_081_software.web)
then download firmware (e.g. Release _081_firmware EP3C80.web)
Please avoid a power failure during the upgrade procedure (duration up to 4min)
3. Please reboot the device after successful upgrade
Check the software version (-> Device Settings menu)
4. Check the configuration (should not be changed)
