The Ypush attendant controlled wheelchair is
designed for use by adults (occupants) with a dis-
ability (up to the maximum recommended weight
– see Technical Specification) whom require a
manoeuvrable, comfortable wheelchair for indoor
and light duty outdoor use. The Ypush can be
used in manual or power-assisted modes.
The very compact footprint, lightweight
folding construction, power-steering & drive &
puncture-proof tyres makes the Brintal Ypush a
capable, manoeuvrable machine which can be
easily transported and offers freedom without
compromising on quality.
The Ypush is intended for use in the home, and
on paved or other smooth hard surfaces. Kerbs
should be avoided, however the Ypush can mount
obstacles up to that specified in the Technical
Specifications.
Attendants / caregivers could endanger them-
selves and or others if they are not capable of
driving the Ypush safely. It is essential that the
attendant (driver) is capable of driving the occu-
pant safely and that the occupant’s condition is
suited to this type of wheelchair.
Dealers will advise on the most suitable wheel-
chair from the Brintal range, but it is the respons-
ibility of attendants / caregivers to ensure that
they have the manual dexterity to drive the
vehicle, adequate sight and hearing to perceive
danger in time, and can at all times operate
the Ypush safely in the expected conditions.
Attendants / caregivers should regularly assess
their ability to operate the vehicle safely.
Ypush wheelchairs have relatively small wheels
and so should not be used on uneven, pot-holed,
rutted or slippery surfaces such as grass and
similar.

This manual contains important safety
notices/warnings. They are clearly marked
with the sign (left). Make sure that you
understand all of these notices. If you have
any doubt, contact your dealer.

Safety information
General Warnings
Driving
Warning: The operation of the Ypush can
endanger the life of the attendant, occupant and
/ or third parties. Any attendant should always be
fully capable of operating the Ypush safely.
Warning: Sitting for long periods may increase
the chance of thromboses or pressure sores.
Occupants prone to such conditions are advised
to take medical advice.
Warning: The Ypush has been designed and
tested for drivers up to the maximum occupant
weight recorded in the Technical Specification.
This weight should never be exceeded.
Warning: Do not exceed the specification; do
not modify the Ypush or use it other than as an
attendant controlled power assisted wheelchair.
Warning: Passengers, children, & pets should
never be carried or attached in any way to the
Ypush.
Warning: Electromagnetic interference may affect
the performance of the Ypush :
• Do not operate devices such as CB radios or
mobile phones while the vehicle is switched on.
• Avoid getting close to transmitter masts, such
as television and radio stations.
If your vehicle ever starts to operate by itself
switch it off and report this to your Dealer.
Warning: The operation of any powered wheel-
chair may affect sensitive electronic circuits such
as alarm systems, garage door closing mechan-
isms, or automatic doors in shops.
Before you drive refer also to “Driving the
Ypush” …later in this manual
Warning: Brake override devices Before allowing
the occupant to alight the Ypush, always check
that both of the brake override levers are in the UP
(unlocked position”). When the levers are in the
Locked (down) position there is no braking and the
Ypush could run down a slope and cause injury or
even death. NEVER SIT ON THE YPUSH WHEN IN
FREEWHEEL / BRAKE OVERRIDE MODE.
Warning: Transferring On and Off Do not attempt
to get on or off the Ypush unless it is switched
off, at rest, and on a stable, level surface. Never
get on or off on a hill.
Warning: Damage Before driving check the
Ypush for damage. If the Ypush is damaged, do
not use it and refer to your dealer.
Warning: Damage Before charging, always check
the charger and battery pack for damage. Never
use a charger or battery that is damaged or mal-
functioning.
Warning: Footrests Before switching on the
Ypush, ensure the occupant’s feet are firmly on
them.. If you drive forward with your occupant’s
feet still on the ground, their feet could become
trapped under the wheelchair and serious injury
could result. When getting on or off the Ypush,
swing the leg-rests away to make getting on / off
easier.
Warning: Armrests Do not use armrests as a sole
support when getting in or out of the Ypush.
Make sure they are both closed before driving.
Warning: Seat Belt Always ensure that the occu-
pant is wearing their seat belt before driving.
-Adjust the belt to suit the occupant.
Warning: Battery Charge Before driving always
check the battery indicator. Ensure that the bat-
tery is fully charged before starting on a journey.
7

Warning: Storage Never stand the Ypush on its
end or side as it may topple and cause injury and
or damage to the Ypush.
Warning: Castoring Be aware that, if you set
off when the castors are not straight, the initial
movement could be partially sideways.
Warning: Power Unless there is an emergency, do
not switch the power off (key) when moving.
Warning: Slopes On steep slopes the Ypush could
topple over. Always try to avoid crossing a slope.
If you have to cross a slope, take great care to
avoid tipping. Never make sharp turns on slopes.
Never drive on slippery or icy surfaces / slopes.
Never back down a slope as your Ypush could tip
over backwards. If you are not comfortable with
the hill gradient, consider an alternative route.
Warning: Kerbs You should try to avoid driving
up or down kerbs as this may cause the Ypush to
topple. Use access ramps wherever possible.
Never attempt kerbs greater than that in the
Technical Specification. If you have to climb or
descend a low kerb, always tackle it straight on.
Occupants must lean forward when climbing a
kerb and back when descending a kerb.
Warning: Speed. Always slow down for turns.
Always slow down when amongst pedestrians
and ensure you do not run into them.
Warning: Stopping If the Ypush wheelchair stops
suddenly when turning, the Ypush might topple.
Take care when turning.
Warning: Carrying Weight Never carry bags or
loads (unless they are an approved accessory)
behind the seat as this could affect stability.
Seat Arms: Do not carry or attach anything to
the seat arms. Anything attached to the seat arms
could affect stability, or interfere with the control
of the Ypush.
Warning: Leaning Over - Occupants Do not lean
sideways, as this could cause the Ypush to topple.
Warning: Escalators Never drive the Ypush onto
an escalator as this could result in severe injury to
occupant and or attendants/ third parties.
Warning: Driving in poor visibility. Consider
wearing a high visibility jacket to warn others of your
presence. Avoid driving in bad weather conditions.
Warning: Roads The Ypush is not for use on roads,
apart from crossing roads at designated places.
Warning: If the wheelchair is left out in the sun,
surfaces could become extremely hot. Always try
to park the wheelchair in the shade.

Before driving the Ypush it is very important to
familiarise yourself with the controls and features.
Do not attempt to drive the Ypush before reading
this manual thoroughly and practising driving the
Ypush without an occupant on-board.
Battery Indicator: 1The right-hand handle
mounted LED lights show the level of charge in
the battery pack. These consist of a row of 1x
Red, 1x Yellow & 1x Green LEDs. All LEDs lit
indicates a full battery. The fewer LEDs that are
lit, the more discharged the battery has become.
The red LED will flash to indicate an exhausted
battery and beeping will be heard. Immediate
recharging is required.
Note: When the Ypush is climbing an incline or
starting off, the battery level may drop
momentarily; this is normal.
Ignition On/Off/Charge Key: Switch the power
on and off using the key switch. 2The Green
LED on the dash panel will light. 3When in the
off/charge position the battery can be charged
(see charging section) but the drive system will
be disabled for safety reasons. Always remove
the key when the Ypush is unattended or it is
being charged.
Pre-set maximum Speed control: The
maximum pre-set wheelchair speed can be
adjusted to suit the occupant & attendant 4The
adjustment is via a grey rotary control inside the
left hand armrest. Turn the knob fully clockwise
for max pre-set speed (4MPH/6.4KMH) and fully
counter-clockwise for minimum. Find a speed that
is comfortable for both you (the attendant) and
the occupant.
Set the pre-set speed to the slowest setting
(Fully anti-clockwise) until you are familiar with
controlling the Ypush.

Accelerator: The Ypush can be pushed manually
or driven in power-assisted mode.
Power-Assisted mode: The accelerator thumb
control 5is actuated using thumb pressure.
Gently press down and the Ypush will accelerate
proportionally until the maximum pre-set speed
is reached. Release and the vehicle will no longer
have power drive. If the attendant releases the
push handles, automatic independent braking will
also be applied.
Forward and reverse control To switch between
forwards and reverse driving modes, come to a
stand-still and press the grey direction switch
once. 6In reverse mode, a reversing beep will be
heard. Be very careful that there is ample space
behind you (the attendant) to be able to safely
complete the manoeuvre. If you become worried
at any time simply release the throttle control.
Note: On start-up the Ypush always defaults to
forward driving mode for safety.
Charging Point: This is situated underneath the
left hand armrest. 7For further details see the
Battery & Charging section of this manual.
USB Port: USB devices may be connected with a
current consumption of up to 2.0Amps maximum.
To connect: Remove the rain cap by unscrewing
it & connect your USB device. 8Replace the cap
when the port is not in use.
Brakes – Lock & Unlock: The automatic braking
system may be locked and unlocked using the 2
green handle-mounted brake override /release
levers. These levers must both remain in the
override unlocked (SAFE/BRAKES applied)
position in normal use. The Lock function is only
to enable moving of the Ypush when unoccupied.
See the Braking section of this manual for full
details.

Electrical Protection Breaker: To protect the
Ypush’s electrical system, it is fitted with a an
electrical circuit breaker. 9If the switch cap
should pop up inside the clear cap, press it to
reset it. If it immediately activates again or acti-
vates apparently randomly, switch off your Ypush
and report the incident to your dealer.
Repeat tripping indicates a fault that must be
investigated before using your Ypush again. The
Ypush can still be operated in manual mode
however the battery must be disconnected
before doing so for safety reasons.
Power turn assist: The Ypush features a unique
power turn system that gives additional assist-
ance for making turns by slowing either the left
or right rear wheel in relation to the other. This
system is operated by pressing either left or right
under-handle buttons. 10 Release the button
pressed to give equal drive power to both wheels.
This feature reduces attendant effort for making
turns and provides excellent steering control and
manoeuvrability.
RED Info LED and sounder: The Ypush features
a red LED adjacent to the circuit breaker switch
and a built in sounder. 11 The LED will illuminate
for various reasons as will the sounder sound.
Please see the Diagnostics & Functions section of
this manual for the meaning of the sounder and
LED outputs.

Attendants must practice driving the Ypush
before carrying any occupant.
Before you start: Place a weight of 10 to 15 Kgs
on the seat – This will override the occupant
sensor and permit attendant only driving. Find an
open level area with no obstructions to practice
controlling the Ypush until you are confident that
you can drive it safely.
Brakes: Make sure that the brake override levers
are in the unlocked (brakes on) position. 12
Check that both of the brakes are on by trying to
push the Ypush. Neither rear wheel should turn.
Unlocked (safe) position 12

Battery: Test, connect and install the battery pack
as shown in the Battery and Charging section of
this manual. If the battery has been removed for
air transport/storage then first remove the grey
isolating plug/bung. 14

Gripping both attendant handles automatically
releases the brake override lock when each lever
is squeezed.
Press down gently on the accelerator lever and
the Ypush will accelerate forwards proportionally
until the maximum pre-set speed is reached. 16
Release and the Ypush will no longer have power
drive assistance. If the attendant releases or
relaxes grip on the push handle levers, automatic
independent braking will also be applied. Practice
this procedure gradually increasing the maximum
pre-set speed to gain experience and confidence.
Powered reversing: To power reverse, make sure
that the Ypush is stationery press the grey
direction button 17 once. Now gently start to
press the accelerator control. The Ypush will start
to power reverse. A reversing beep will be heard.
Be very careful that there is ample space behind
you (the attendant) to be able to safely complete
the manoeuvre.
Occupant Sensor: The occupant sensor ensures
that the Ypush cannot be driven in powered
mode without an occupant being sat in the
seat. This is a safety device to reduce the risk of
unintended operation and or misuse.

Mechanical Anti-tip System: Your Ypush
features mechanical anti-tip wheels fitted at the
rear of the unit. These should be left installed on
the Ypush whenever it is being driven with an
occupant in the seat as they are safety devices
that reduce the risk of injury from tipping over
backwards if excessive gradients are attempted.
The anti-tip wheels (x2) are fitted at the rear of
the Ypush and should be removed and stored
on-board when using the Ypush Roller Bag to
transport it. Follow these steps to remove, stow
and replace these devices (x2)
1Removal: Remove the anti-tip wheels from the
storage position by pressing the spring button
and pulling the bar out of the grey tube towards
the front of the Ypush 18
2
Installation: Take the wheels to the rear of
the Ypush and insert it into the grey tube
whilst pressing the spring button. 19 Make sure
that the wheels are pointing downwards.
3
Make sure that the spring button reappears
through the hole to confirm the wheels are
locked in place. 20
4
Stowing the anti-tip wheels: Simply reverse
the above procedure. Make sure that the
spring button reappears in the stowed position to
prevent the anti-tip wheels from getting lost
during transit. 21

Electronic Anti-tip System: The Ypush also
features a unique integrated electronic anti-tip
circuit which cuts power to the motors if the front
wheels leave the ground. If these are triggered
power to the drive system will be suspended
and the red LED will flash/illuminate. Power will
be automatically restored once the front wheels
return to the ground. 22
Foot Bars (x2): These are fitted to the rear of
the Ypush to allow the attendant to gives some
assistance to lift the front castors briefly to
negotiate an obstacle such as a small kerb. 23
The attendant must apply progressive downward
foot pressure on either of the foot bars to assist
with temporarily lifting the front of the Ypush. 24
Note: When the front wheels are momentarily off
the ground the red dash LED will flash and main
drive power will be temporarily cut. When the
wheels return to the ground the LED will extin-
guish and the main drive power will be restored.
Follow these steps to adjust the foot bars
correctly:
1In normal use the footbars should be extended
rearwards - Press the spring button in and
pull the footbar out until the spring button is in
hole A. 25
2When packing the Ypush into the supplied
Roller Bag it will be necessary to push the
foot bars fully in so that they do not interfere with
or damage the bag as they protrude beyond the
rear wheels when configured for normal use.
3Press the spring button and push the bar in
fully. The spring button should now be
protruding out of hole B. 25
Note: Never stand on the footbars with your
full weight. One foot must stay on the ground
at all times

Swing-Away Foot rests: The Ypush features
swing-away footrests. In normal use these provide
support for the occupant’s feet. 26
Swing-Away function: The occupant will be able
to more easily transfer to and from the Ypush
with one or both of the foot rests swung away.
1To do this grip the footrest and raise it up so
that it is no longer located on the front of the
wheelchair. 27
2Now swing the footrest away to clear a path
for the occupant to alight easily. 28
3When the occupant is sitting comfortably,
put the footrests back to their installed
position by raising them and swinging them back
in. Lower the footrests they locate properly on
the frame. Test that you have done this correct-
ly by trying to swing them back out. If they do
move then repeat this procedure. Failure to lock
the rests in properly could result in injury to the
occupant and or attendant.
4Now assist the occupant as necessary to
place their feet on the footrests.
Seat Belt: The Ypush is fitted with a seat-belt for
the occupant. This must be adjusted correctly and
worn on every trip.
The belt can be adjusted at each side to achieve
the correct fit. Make sure that the occupant is
sitting fully back in the seat and then clip the
two halves of the belt together. Adjust length as
necessary. 30 To release the belt press the RED
release button.

Braking System: When the Ypush is switched off
(green brake override levers are not engaged)
the brakes are automatically engaged when the
handles are not squeezed /gripped. This is called
“Failsafe Braking”. This also happens
automatically if the attendant releases their grip
from the push handles during use.
Safe/Normal position – Brake override lever
NOT engaged. 31
There may be occasions where you may wish to
move the vehicle without power. To do this there
is a brake override lever (green) on each push
handle. To activate, compress each of the brake
lever handles in turn and at the same time raise
the green override lock– a click will be heard con-
firming brake/s are overridden. The push handles
cannot be easily held to drive now as the green
override levers are in the raised position.

stand it so that the roller wheels are on the
ground. 33
2Unclip the pull handle on the side
nearest the zip. 34
3Unzip the Ypush Bag fully 35
4Remove the Ypush from the bag. 36
5Unfolding: Swing the foot rests down so that
they locate on the frame. 37
6Release the transport tie by lifting it upwards.
38
7Unfold the seat – Place your hands as shown
and apply outward force. 39 As the seat area
widens use the palms of your hands to apply
downward force. The seat will fully locate. 40
Always make sure that the Ypush is fully
unfolded before driving an occupant.
8
Fold down the foot plates. 41
9
Raise the handles until both “click” into the
vertical position. Pull backwards on both
handles to ensure that they are both locked. 42
10
Now extend the foot bars and fit the
Anti-tip wheels as shown in the previous
sections of this manual.
11
Remove the key to prevent any inadvertent
operation of the Ypush.
12
Now fit the charged battery pack:
Raise the right hand armrest.
13
Grip the battery retainer button and pull it.
(This will allow the battery pack to be fully
inserted into the armrest) lift the connector plug
out of the way and lower the battery pack it into

Make sure that the battery is fully charged before
use. You can check this easily by pressing the
battery test button. 45 If all LEDs illuminate
the battery is fully charged. Do not use a part
charged battery. See Battery and Charging
section of this manual for full details.
Connecting the battery. Grip the battery pack
plug from the Ypush and insert it fully into the
connector socket on the battery pack. 46
Now fold down the handle on the battery pack
and close the armrest compartment. 47
Note: When removing the battery pack from the
