Thisapplianceisdesignedtoburnwoodlogsonly.Theaircontrolsontheapplianceallowthechosen
fueltoburnefficiently.Onanopenfire,theconditionsrequiredtoallowwoodorotherfuelstoburn
affecttheefficiency,sendingmorethan60%oftheheatproducedstraightupintothechimney.The
efficiencyfiguresforourstovesaremuchhigher,asthereisfargreatercontroloverthecombustion
airenteringandleavingtheappliance.
ChoosingtheCorrectAppliance
Itisessentialthatyousizetheboilercorrectlyforyourheatingrequirements.Itisessentialthatyou
employtheservicesofanexperiencedheatingengineertocalculatetheheatdemandyouhave,and
thats/he,inturn,calculatethesizeofboilerstovethatwouldbemostsuitableforyouapplication.
Anincorrectlysizedboileristhemostcommonfactorwhenproblemsarisewithuseofthesetypes
ofproducts.

Thisstovecontainsnoasbestos.Ifthereisapossibilityofdisturbinganyasbestosinthecourseofinstallation
thenpleaseseekspecialistguidanceanduseappropriateprotectiveequipment.
MetalParts
Wheninstallingorservicingthisstove,careshouldbetakentoavoidtheriskofpersonalinjury.

Over‐firingWarning
ItisextremelyimportantthatyoudoNOTleavealloftheaircontrolsfullyopen.
Leavingtheaircontrolfullyopenwillleadto“over‐firing”.Over‐firingiscausedwhentoomuchheat
isgeneratedwithinthefirechamber,thiswillleadtowarping,bucklingandgeneraldamagetothe
stoveanditsinternalcomponents.Over‐firingcanalsobecausedbyrunningtheappliancewiththe
door(s)openorifyouhaveanexcessivefluedraft.
PLEASENOTEANYDAMAGETOTHEAPPLIANCECAUSEDTHROUGHOVER‐FIRINGWILLNOTBE
COVEREDBYTHEWARRANTY.


InstallationGuide–forusebytheinstaller

Theseinstructionscoverthebasicprinciplestoensurethesatisfactoryinstallationofthestove,
althoughdetailmayneedslightmodificationtosuitparticularlocalsiteconditions.Inallcasesthe
installationmustcomplywithcurrentBuildingRegulations,LocalAuthorityByelawsandother
specificationsorregulationsastheyaffecttheinstallationofthestove.

ItshouldbenotedthattheBuildingRegulationsrequirementsmaybemetbyadoptingtherelevant
recommendationsgivenincurrentBritishStandardsBSEN15287‐1:2007design,installationand
commissioningofchimneysasanalternativemeanstoachieveanequivalentlevelofperformanceto
thatobtainedfollowingtheguidancegiveninApprovedDocumentJ.
Werecommendthatyouseektheservicesofaninstallerwhoisconversantwithstoveinstallations
andBuildingRegulations.Theshopwhereyoupurchasedthestoveshouldbeabletohelpinthis
respect.ItisourgeneralpolicytosupplyspecialistFireplaceshopsandtheseshopscanofferanafter
salesserviceandofferadvicewhennecessary.
PleasenotethatitisarequirementunderBroseleyFiresLtd’swarrantysystemthatthe
installationofthestoveiscarriedoutbyaCompetentPersonregisteredwithaGovernment
approvedCompetentPersonsScheme.HETASLtdoperatesuchaSchemeandalistingoftheir
RegisteredCompetentPersonscanbefoundontheirwebsiteatwww.hetas.co.uk.
COAlarms:‐
Buildingregulationsrequirethatwheneveraneworreplacementfixedsolidfuelor
wood/biomassapplianceisinstalledinadwellingacarbonmonoxidealarmmustbefittedinthe
sameroomastheappliance.Furtherguidanceontheinstallationofthecarbonmonoxidealarmis
availableinBSEN50292:2002andfromthealarmmanufacturer’sinstructions.Provisionofan
alarmmustnotbeconsideredasubstituteforeitherinstallingtheappliancecorrectlyorensuring
regularservicingandmaintenanceoftheapplianceandchimneysystem.
StovePerformance
IntheUK,thestovehasbeenapprovedbyHETASLtdasanintermittentoperatingappliancefor
burningwoodlogsonly.Fortypetestingaprototypesamplewasused.BroseleyFiresconfirmsthe
specificationoftheproductionmodelisnotdifferentincriticaltechnicalaspectstotheprototype
sampletested.

Hearth
Yourstovemustbeinstalledonasolid,levelnon‐combustiblehearthandwithagapofatleast
600mmfromanycombustiblematerialsuchasbeamsorskirting.Thehearthdoesnotneedtobe
constructionalbutmustbeatleast12mmthick.Thehearthprotrusioninfrontofthestoveto
carpetsorwoodenfloorsmustbeatleast300mm.Asitispossibleforfueltofalloutonopeningthe
door,afendermustbefittedifthehearthisflushwiththecarpet.Thesearejustafewhearth
specifications.PleaserefertoBuildingRegulationsApprovedDocumentJ(Hearths)formorespecific
details.
Theapplianceshouldbesitedinaproperlyconstructedbrickfireplaceorrecessallowingagapof
100mmallround,attherearandbothsides.Thefireplacewallsmustbemadeofsolidnon
combustiblematerialandatleast75mmthick.Itispossibletoreducetheallroundclearanceto
75mmbutthiswillreducetheabilityoftheappliancetoheattheroomandcouldleadtooverfiring
ofthestoveandstructuraldamagetothesurround.Ifthisreducedairgapisunavoidableitwillbe
necessarytoincreasethethicknessofthesurroundingwallto200mm.Iftheairgaparoundthe
applianceisreducedto75mm,thenincreasethegapaboveto375mmtoallowtheairtomoveinto
theroom.Thehearthshouldbelevelandtheappliancefittedatrightanglestoit.Fireplacewalls
needtobeatleast1.2mabovethehearthandatleast300mmabovetheappliance.Thehearthhas
tobeabletosupporttheweightoftheapplianceandanyfluebearingdownuponit.Theclearance
distancestocombustiblematerialbeneath,surroundingoruponthehearthandwallsadjacentto
thehearthshouldcomplywiththeguidanceontheseparationofcombustiblematerialgivenin
BuildingRegulationsApprovedDocumentJandalsointhesestoveinstructions.










Chimney
Thisappliancemustnotbefittedintoachimneyservinganotherheatingappliance.Itismost
importantthatthereisnoobstructionintheflueorchimney.Pleaseensurethatanyexisting
chimneyisclearofobstructionandsweptcleanimmediatelybeforeinstallationofthestove.Ifthe
chimneyhasbeenusedforanopenfireitisrecommendedthatitbesweptforagainafteryouhave
usedtheapplianceforamonth.Asaclosedapplianceoperatesatahigherfluetemperature,itis
possiblefordepositsthathadpreviouslyadheredtobedislodgedwiththeconsequentriskofflue
blockage.
Afluedraughtofminimum1.5mm(14.71Pascal’s)toamaximum2.5mm(24.52Pascal’s)water
gaugeisrequiredforsatisfactoryapplianceperformance.Aproperlybuiltmasonryorfactory
constructedchimney,preferablywithaheightof5metresormore,shouldensureaconsistent
draught(draw)underavarietyofweatherconditions.Thefluedraughtshouldbecheckedunderfire
athighoutputandifitexceedstherecommendedmaximum,adraughtstabilisermustbefittedso
thattherateofburningcanbecontrolledandtopreventoverfiring(see5below).Ifyouhaveany
doubtsaboutthesuitabilityofyourchimney,consultyourlocaldealer/stockist.
Theoutletfromthechimneyshouldbeabovetheroofofthebuildinginaccordancewiththe
provisionsofBuildingRegulationsApprovedDocumentJ.
Ifinstallationisintoanexistingchimneythenitmustbesoundandhavenocracksorotherfaults
whichmightallowfumesintothehouse.Olderproperties,especially,mayhavechimneyfaultsor
thecrosssectionmaybetoolargei.e.morethan230mmx230mm.Remedialactionshouldbe
takenifrequiredandseekingexpertadviceifnecessary.Ifitisfoundnecessarytolinethechimney
thenafluelinersuitableforsolidfuelmustbeusedinaccordancewithBuildingRegulations
ApprovedDocumentJ.
IfthereisnoexistingchimneytheneitheraprefabricatedblockchimneyinaccordancewithBuilding
RegulationsApprovedDocumentJoratwinwalledinsulatedstainlesssteelfluetoBS4543canbe
used.Thesechimneysmustbefittedinaccordancewiththemanufacturer’sinstructionsand
BuildingRegulations.
Thelinerdiametermustnotbelessthan6”.Ifthedrawonthechimneyisexcessive,afluedraught
stabiliserwillhelptoslowthisdown.Anexcessivedrawmaycauseoverfiringandthuscausethe
internalcomponentsofthestovetowearoutquicker.
Anybendinthechimneyorconnectingfluepipeshouldnotexceed45°.90°bendsshouldnotbe
used.Adequateprovisione.g.easilyaccessiblesootdoorordoorsmustbeprovidedforsweeping
thechimneyandconnectingfluepipe.







ConnectiontoChimneyFlue
Asinglewallmetalfluepipeissuitableforconnectingthestovetothechimneybutisnotsuitablefor
usingforthecompletechimney.Itisimportantthattheconnectionbetweenthestovespigotand
thefluepipeiseffectivelysealedwithcementand/orglassfibreropetopreventharmfulgases
leakingintotheroom.Thediameterofthefluespigot(prefibreroped)providedwiththestoveis6”
(150mm)andcanbefittedtotherearorthetopofthestoveandmustbetightlyfittedtothe
opening.Airmustnotbedrawninatthispointasitwillaffectthestovesperformance.Thestove
maybefittedwitha6”(150mm)flue.Togetthebesttransferofheatfromthestoveintotheroom
therearetwofactorstoconsiderwheninstallingintoafireplacerecess.
Firstly,thefluepipefromthestovemustpassthrougheitheratoporback‘registerplate’.Atop
registerplateisthetermusedforaflatplatewhichisinstalledinsidethechimney(usuallyoutof
sight)topreventheatintheroombeingdrawnupthechimneywhenusingthetoporrearflue
outlet.Abackregisterplateisthetermusedforaflatplatewhichisinstalledovertheopeningofthe
fireplacerecesswhenusingtherearflueoutlet.Thisregisterplatemustbemadeofanon‐
combustiblematerialsuchassteel,asbestolux,ormasterboard.Itisadvisabletosealthisregister
platetothewallsofthechimneyandalsoaroundthefluepipe.Provisionofatrapdoorinthis
closureplateorasootdoorintheflueforaccesstocleanthechimneyfromtimetotimeis
recommended.Whenusingtherearoutletitisadvisabletoinfillthechimneyspaceunderneaththe
outletleveltopreventdebrisfallingintothevoidandbeinginaccessible.Themaximumverticalrun
offluepipeouttherearofthestoveshouldnotexceed150mm.
Secondly,thefurtherforwardthestovecanbesitedonthehearth,themoreheatwillberadiated
intotheroom.Toachievethis,thebackflueoutletisfavoured.Rememberthe600mmclearance
distancefromcombustiblematerialsandthe300mmdistancetothefrontofthehearth.
CombustionAirSupply
Inorderforthestovetoperformefficientlyandsafelythereshouldbeanadequateairsupplyinto
theroominwhichthestoveisinstalledtoprovidecombustionair.Thisisparticularlynecessaryin
modernhouseswheredraftshavebeenalmosteliminatedbydoubleglazingetc.
Theremustnotbeanextractorfanfittedinthesameroomasthestoveasthiscancausethestove
toemitfumesintotheroom.Itisnecessarytoinstallawallventtoprovidethenecessary
combustionairandtopreventthedepletionofoxygenintheroom.









Assembly–Smallbaseoption
Thestovewillarriveseparatelyfromthesmallbase.Thisbasecanbeeasilyfittedonsite.On
openingthestovepackagingthefirststepistoremovethegrateandgratesupportalongwiththe
ashpanandlogretainer.Thestovebodycannowbeattachedtothetopofthesmallbase.Thereare
2holesthatallowconnectionbetweenthesmallbaseandthebaseofthestove,pleaseusethe
screwsprovide.(Seefigure2below).



















Assembly–Logstorageoption
Onarrivalyourstovewillbecompletewithoutsmallbase.Thelogstorewillbeshippedseparately.
Onopeningthestovepackagingthefirststepistoremovethegrateandgratesupportalongwith
theashpan.
Nextsteprequiresthetemperatureshieldatthetopofthelogbasetoberemoved.Thisisdoneso
bylooseningthesecuringclips(Seefigure3b).Thestovebodycannowbeattachedtothetopofthe
logbase.Thereare2holesthatallowconnectionbetweenthelogstoreandthebaseofthestove,
pleaseusethescrewsprovided.(SeebelowFigure3a).
Itisimportanttoensurethelogstoreislevelbeforeapplyingthestove.Atthisstageitis
recommendedtositethelogstoreinpositionandmakelevel.Thereareadjustmentboltsonthe
baseforthisstep.Oncestablethestovecannowbeattached.Itmayrequire2peopletoliftthe
stovesectionintoposition.
Oncethestovehasbeenliftedintopositionensurethe2holeslineupwiththelogbase.Pleaseuse
boltsprovidedandensurethereisatightconnectionandthatthestoveandlogbasearesecurely
attached.
 

