Thisapplianceisdesignedtoburnwoodlogsonly.Theaircontrolsontheapplianceallowthechosen
fueltoburnefficiently.Onanopenfire,theconditionsrequiredtoallowwoodorotherfuelstoburn
affecttheefficiency,sendingmorethan60%oftheheatproducedstraightupintothechimney.The
efficiencyfiguresforourstovesaremuchhigher,asthereisfargreatercontroloverthecombustion
airenteringandleavingtheappliance.
ChoosingtheCorrectAppliance
Itisessentialthatyousizetheboilercorrectlyforyourheatingrequirements.Itisessentialthatyou
employtheservicesofanexperiencedheatingengineertocalculatetheheatdemandyouhave,and
thats/he,inturn,calculatethesizeofboilerstovethatwouldbemostsuitableforyouapplication.
Anincorrectlysizedboileristhemostcommonfactorwhenproblemsarisewithuseofthesetypes
ofproducts.

Wheninstallingorservicingthisstove,careshouldbetakentoavoidtheriskofpersonalinjury.

Over‐firingWarning
ItisextremelyimportantthatyoudoNOTleavealloftheaircontrolsfullyopen.
Leavingtheaircontrolfullyopenwillleadto“over‐firing”.Over‐firingiscausedwhentoomuchheat
isgeneratedwithinthefirechamber,thiswillleadtowarping,bucklingandgeneraldamagetothe
stoveanditsinternalcomponents.Over‐firingcanalsobecausedbyrunningtheappliancewiththe
door(s)openorifyouhaveanexcessivefluedraft.
PLEASENOTEANYDAMAGETOTHEAPPLIANCECAUSEDTHROUGHOVER‐FIRINGWILLNOTBE
COVEREDBYTHEWARRANTY.

InstallationGuide–forusebytheinstaller

Theseinstructionscoverthebasicprinciplestoensurethesatisfactoryinstallationofthestove,
althoughdetailmayneedslightmodificationtosuitparticularlocalsiteconditions.Inallcasesthe
installationmustcomplywithcurrentBuildingRegulations,LocalAuthorityByelawsandother
specificationsorregulationsastheyaffecttheinstallationofthestove.

ItshouldbenotedthattheBuildingRegulationsrequirementsmaybemetbyadoptingtherelevant
recommendationsgivenincurrentBritishStandardsBSEN15287‐1:2007design,installationand
commissioningofchimneysasanalternativemeanstoachieveanequivalentlevelofperformanceto
thatobtainedfollowingtheguidancegiveninApprovedDocumentJ.
Werecommendthatyouseektheservicesofaninstallerwhoisconversantwithstoveinstallations
andBuildingRegulations.Theshopwhereyoupurchasedthestoveshouldbeabletohelpinthis
respect.ItisourgeneralpolicytosupplyspecialistFireplaceshopsandtheseshopscanofferanafter
salesserviceandofferadvicewhennecessary.
PleasenotethatitisarequirementunderBroseleyFiresLtd’swarrantysystemthatthe
installationofthestoveiscarriedoutbyaCompetentPersonregisteredwithaGovernment
approvedCompetentPersonsScheme.HETASLtdoperatesuchaSchemeandalistingoftheir

COAlarms:‐
Buildingregulationsrequirethatwheneveraneworreplacementfixedsolidfuelor
wood/biomassapplianceisinstalledinadwellingacarbonmonoxidealarmmustbefittedinthe
sameroomastheappliance.Furtherguidanceontheinstallationofthecarbonmonoxidealarmis
availableinBSEN50292:2002andfromthealarmmanufacturer’sinstructions.Provisionofan
alarmmustnotbeconsideredasubstituteforeitherinstallingtheappliancecorrectlyorensuring
regularservicingandmaintenanceoftheapplianceandchimneysystem.
StovePerformance
IntheUK,thestovehasbeenapprovedbyHETASLtdasanintermittentoperatingappliancefor
burningwoodlogsonly.Fortypetestingaprototypesamplewasused.BroseleyFiresconfirmsthe
specificationoftheproductionmodelisnotdifferentincriticaltechnicalaspectstotheprototype
sampletested.

Hearth
Yourstovemustbeinstalledonasolid,levelnon‐combustiblehearthandwithagapofatleast
600mmfromanycombustiblematerialsuchasbeamsorskirting.Thehearthdoesnotneedtobe
constructionalbutmustbeatleast12mmthick.Thehearthprotrusioninfrontofthestoveto
carpetsorwoodenfloorsmustbeatleast300mm.Asitispossibleforfueltofalloutonopeningthe
door,afendermustbefittedifthehearthisflushwiththecarpet.Thesearejustafewhearth
specifications.PleaserefertoBuildingRegulationsApprovedDocumentJ(Hearths)formorespecific
details.
Theapplianceshouldbesitedinaproperlyconstructedbrickfireplaceorrecessallowingagapof
100mmallround,attherearandbothsides.Thefireplacewallsmustbemadeofsolidnon
combustiblematerialandatleast75mmthick.Itispossibletoreducetheallroundclearanceto
75mmbutthiswillreducetheabilityoftheappliancetoheattheroomandcouldleadtooverfiring
ofthestoveandstructuraldamagetothesurround.Ifthisreducedairgapisunavoidableitwillbe
necessarytoincreasethethicknessofthesurroundingwallto200mm.Iftheairgaparoundthe
applianceisreducedto75mm,thenincreasethegapaboveto375mmtoallowtheairtomoveinto
theroom.Thehearthshouldbelevelandtheappliancefittedatrightanglestoit.Fireplacewalls
needtobeatleast1.2mabovethehearthandatleast300mmabovetheappliance.Thehearthhas
tobeabletosupporttheweightoftheapplianceandanyfluebearingdownuponit.Theclearance
distancestocombustiblematerialbeneath,surroundingoruponthehearthandwallsadjacentto
thehearthshouldcomplywiththeguidanceontheseparationofcombustiblematerialgivenin
BuildingRegulationsApprovedDocumentJandalsointhesestoveinstructions.










Chimney
Thisappliancemustnotbefittedintoachimneyservinganotherheatingappliance.Itismost
importantthatthereisnoobstructionintheflueorchimney.Pleaseensurethatanyexisting
chimneyisclearofobstructionandsweptcleanimmediatelybeforeinstallationofthestove.Ifthe
chimneyhasbeenusedforanopenfireitisrecommendedthatitbesweptforagainafteryouhave
usedtheapplianceforamonth.Asaclosedapplianceoperatesatahigherfluetemperature,itis
possiblefordepositsthathadpreviouslyadheredtobedislodgedwiththeconsequentriskofflue
blockage.
Afluedraughtofminimum1.5mm(14.71Pascal’s)toamaximum2.5mm(24.52Pascal’s)water
gaugeisrequiredforsatisfactoryapplianceperformance.Aproperlybuiltmasonryorfactory
constructedchimney,preferablywithaheightof5metresormore,shouldensureaconsistent
draught(draw)underavarietyofweatherconditions.Thefluedraughtshouldbecheckedunderfire
athighoutputandifitexceedstherecommendedmaximum,adraughtstabilisermustbefittedso
thattherateofburningcanbecontrolledandtopreventoverfiring(see5below).Ifyouhaveany
doubtsaboutthesuitabilityofyourchimney,consultyourlocaldealer/stockist.
Theoutletfromthechimneyshouldbeabovetheroofofthebuildinginaccordancewiththe
provisionsofBuildingRegulationsApprovedDocumentJ.
Ifinstallationisintoanexistingchimneythenitmustbesoundandhavenocracksorotherfaults
whichmightallowfumesintothehouse.Olderproperties,especially,mayhavechimneyfaultsor
thecrosssectionmaybetoolargei.e.morethan230mmx230mm.Remedialactionshouldbe
takenifrequiredandseekingexpertadviceifnecessary.Ifitisfoundnecessarytolinethechimney
thenafluelinersuitableforsolidfuelmustbeusedinaccordancewithBuildingRegulations
ApprovedDocumentJ.
IfthereisnoexistingchimneytheneitheraprefabricatedblockchimneyinaccordancewithBuilding
RegulationsApprovedDocumentJoratwinwalledinsulatedstainlesssteelfluetoBS4543canbe
used.Thesechimneysmustbefittedinaccordancewiththemanufacturer’sinstructionsand
BuildingRegulations.
Thelinerdiametermustnotbelessthan6”.Ifthedrawonthechimneyisexcessive,afluedraught
stabiliserwillhelptoslowthisdown.Anexcessivedrawmaycauseoverfiringandthuscausethe
internalcomponentsofthestovetowearoutquicker.
Anybendinthechimneyorconnectingfluepipeshouldnotexceed45°.90°bendsshouldnotbe
used.Adequateprovisione.g.easilyaccessiblesootdoorordoorsmustbeprovidedforsweeping
thechimneyandconnectingfluepipe.







ConnectiontoChimneyFlue
Asinglewallmetalfluepipeissuitableforconnectingthestovetothechimneybutisnotsuitablefor
usingforthecompletechimney.Itisimportantthattheconnectionbetweenthestovespigotand
thefluepipeiseffectivelysealedwithcementand/orglassfibreropetopreventharmfulgases
leakingintotheroom.Thediameterofthefluespigot(prefibreroped)providedwiththestoveis6”
(150mm)andcanbefittedtotherearorthetopofthestoveandmustbetightlyfittedtothe
opening.Airmustnotbedrawninatthispointasitwillaffectthestovesperformance.Thestove
maybefittedwitha6”(150mm)flue.Togetthebesttransferofheatfromthestoveintotheroom
therearetwofactorstoconsiderwheninstallingintoafireplacerecess.
Firstly,thefluepipefromthestovemustpassthrougheitheratoporback‘registerplate’.Atop
registerplateisthetermusedforaflatplatewhichisinstalledinsidethechimney(usuallyoutof
sight)topreventheatintheroombeingdrawnupthechimneywhenusingthetoporrearflue
outlet.Abackregisterplateisthetermusedforaflatplatewhichisinstalledovertheopeningofthe
fireplacerecesswhenusingtherearflueoutlet.Thisregisterplatemustbemadeofanon‐
combustiblematerialsuchassteel,asbestolux,ormasterboard.Itisadvisabletosealthisregister
platetothewallsofthechimneyandalsoaroundthefluepipe.Provisionofatrapdoorinthis
closureplateorasootdoorintheflueforaccesstocleanthechimneyfromtimetotimeis
recommended.Whenusingtherearoutletitisadvisabletoinfillthechimneyspaceunderneaththe
outletleveltopreventdebrisfallingintothevoidandbeinginaccessible.Themaximumverticalrun
offluepipeouttherearofthestoveshouldnotexceed150mm.
Secondly,thefurtherforwardthestovecanbesitedonthehearth,themoreheatwillberadiated
intotheroom.Toachievethis,thebackflueoutletisfavoured.Rememberthe600mmclearance
distancefromcombustiblematerialsandthe300mmdistancetothefrontofthehearth.
CombustionAirSupply
Inorderforthestovetoperformefficientlyandsafelythereshouldbeanadequateairsupplyinto
theroominwhichthestoveisinstalledtoprovidecombustionair.Thisisparticularlynecessaryin
modernhouseswheredraftshavebeenalmosteliminatedbydoubleglazingetc.
Theremustnotbeanextractorfanfittedinthesameroomasthestoveasthiscancausethestove
toemitfumesintotheroom.Itisnecessarytoinstallawallventtoprovidethenecessary
combustionairandtopreventthedepletionofoxygenintheroom.









Assembly–Smallbaseoption
Thestovewillarriveseparatelyfromthesmallbase.Thisbasecanbeeasilyfittedonsite.On
openingthestovepackagingthefirststepistoremovethegrateandgratesupportalongwiththe
ashpanandlogretainer.Thestovebodycannowbeattachedtothetopofthesmallbase.Thereare
2holesthatallowconnectionbetweenthesmallbaseandthebaseofthestove,pleaseusethe
screwsprovide.(Seefigure2below).



Assembly–Logstorageoption
Onarrivalyourstovewillbecompletewithoutsmallbase.Thelogstorewillbeshippedseparately.
Onopeningthestovepackagingthefirststepistoremovethegrateandgratesupportalongwith
theashpan.
Nextsteprequiresthetemperatureshieldatthetopofthelogbasetoberemoved.Thisisdoneso
bylooseningthesecuringclips(Seefigure3b).Thestovebodycannowbeattachedtothetopofthe
logbase.Thereare2holesthatallowconnectionbetweenthelogstoreandthebaseofthestove,
pleaseusethescrewsprovided.(SeebelowFigure3a).
Itisimportanttoensurethelogstoreislevelbeforeapplyingthestove.Atthisstageitis
recommendedtositethelogstoreinpositionandmakelevel.Thereareadjustmentboltsonthe
baseforthisstep.Oncestablethestovecannowbeattached.Itmayrequire2peopletoliftthe
stovesectionintoposition.
Oncethestovehasbeenliftedintopositionensurethe2holeslineupwiththelogbase.Pleaseuse
boltsprovidedandensurethereisatightconnectionandthatthestoveandlogbasearesecurely
attached.
 


TheCleanAirAct1993andSmokeControlAreas

UndertheCleanAirActlocalauthoritiesmaydeclarethewholeorpartofthedistrictofthe
authoritytobeasmokecontrolarea.Itisanoffencetoemitsmokefromachimneyofabuilding,
fromafurnaceorfromanyfixedboileriflocatedinadesignatedsmokecontrolarea.Itisalsoan
offencetoacquirean"unauthorisedfuel"forusewithinasmokecontrolareaunlessitisusedinan
"exempt"appliance("exempted"fromthecontrolswhichgenerallyapplyinthesmokecontrolarea).

TheSecretaryofStateforEnvironment,FoodandRuralAffairshaspowersundertheActto
authorisesmokelessfuelsorexemptappliancesforuseinsmokecontrolareasinEngland.In
ScotlandandWalesthispowerrestswithMinistersinthedevolvedadministrationsforthose
countries.Separatelegislation,theCleanAir(NorthernIreland)Order1981,appliesinNorthern
Ireland.Thereforeitisarequirementthatfuelsburntorobtainedforuseinsmokecontrolareas
havebeen"authorised"inRegulationsandthatappliancesusedtoburnsolidfuelinthoseareas
(otherthan"authorised"fuels)havebeenexemptedbyanOrdermadeandsignedbytheSecretary
ofStateorMinisterinthedevolvedadministrations.

YourlocalauthorityisresponsibleforimplementingtheCleanAirAct1993includingdesignationand
supervisionofsmokecontrolareasandyoucancontactthemfordetailsofCleanAirAct
requirements.

Commission/Handover
Ensureloosepartsarefittedinaccordancewiththeinstructionsfor“Assembly”givenabove.
Oncompletionoftheinstallationallowasuitableperiodoftimeforanyfirecementandmortarto
dryout,whenasmallfiremaybelitandcheckedtoensurethesmokeandfumesaretakenfromthe
stoveupthechimneyandemittedsafelytoatmosphere.Donotrunatfulloutputforatleast24
hours.
Oncompletionoftheinstallationandcommissioning,ensurethatthisinstallationandoperation
manualforthestoveisleftwiththecustomer.Ensurethatthecustomerisawareofthecorrectuse
oftheappliancewiththefuelslikelytobeusedonthestoveandwarnthemtouseonlythe
recommendedfuelsforthestove.
Advisetheuserwhattodoshouldsmokeorfumesbeemittedfromthestove.Thecustomershould
bewarnedtouseafireguardtoBS6539inthepresenceofchildren,agedand/orinfirmpersons.
Advisetheusernottofitanextractorfaninthesameroomasthestove,asthiscancausethestove
toemitfumesintotheroom.




OPERATIONOFSTOVE
READTHESEINSTRUCTIONSCAREFULLYBEFOREUSINGTHESTOVE





AIRCONTROLANDAIRWASH
Theaircontrolisintheformofasliderandissituatedonthemaindoorassembly.Havingtheslider
pushedtotheright(Asshowninthediagramabove)indicatestheintakeisclosed.Whentheslideris
movedfullytothelefttheintakeiscompletelyopen.Thisparticularairintakeisadjustable
throughoutthearearighttolefttocontrolthetotalamountofairrequiredforsuitablecombustion.
Thisaircontrolnotonlycontrolstheamountofairforcombustionbutalsoprovidestheairforthe
‘airwash’systemaswell.
Air‐washSystem
Thisisasystemwhereairisdrawnintothestove(bycombustion)throughmainaircontroland
deflecteddownthebackfaceoftheglass,thuspreventingthesmokecomingintocontactwiththe
glass.Itdoesnotmeanthatyouwillneverhavetocleantheglass,butsubstantiallylengthensthe
periodsbetweenhavingtodoso.Theair‐washsystemworksbestwhenburningdrywoodathigh
temperature.Wetandpitchywoodwillproducemoredepositsontheglass.Also,depositswill
formonthebackoftheglasswhenthestoveisoperatedonlowheatforextendedperiods.
Thefireneedssomeairtoburnsoclosingdownalltheairsupplywillmakethefiregoout.
Experiencewiththefirewillshowyoutherightbalanceoffuelandairtogetthebestoutofyour
stove.



CuringtheStove
Beforelightingthestove,checkwiththeinstallerthattheinstallationworkandcommissioning
checksdescribedintheinstallationinstructionshavebeencarriedoutcorrectlyandthatthe
chimneyhasbeensweptclean,issoundandfreefromanyobstructions.Thiscuringprocessmay
havebeenundertakenbyyourinstalleraspartofthestove’scommissioningandhandoverandthe
installershouldhaveshownyouhowtooperatethestovecorrectly.
Yourstoveismadeofanumberofcastironcomponentsandwerecommendedthatthefirstburn
shouldbeasmallfireforabout30minutes.Thisenablesthestressesandstrainsatthejointstobe
takenupandsettlegradually.Thesecondburncanbealargerfireforanhour.Duringthecuring
process,thestovewillgiveoffapungentsmellandsomefumes.Thisisthepaintcuringandisquite
normal.Provideventilationwhilstthisishappeningsincethefumescanbequitestrongandmayset
offsmokealarmsintheroom.Thepaintmaybecomeslightlylighterincolourwhenthestoveis
cured,particularlyinthehottestspots.FireGratepolishcanbeusedtokeepthestoveingood
condition,orstovespraypaintcanbeusedtore‐touchthestove.Thecorrectstovespraycanbe
obtainedfromyourstovestockist.
Ashpanremoval

Yourstovehasabuiltinashpanthatwillneedupdatedmaintenance.Accesstotheashpanismade
throughthemaindoor.Itisveryimportantthatmaintenanceiscarriedoutpriortoburningandthat
nohotembersareevident.Theashpanisaccessiblebyremovingthegrate.Therearefingerholesto
dothis.Oncethegrateisremovedtheashpancanberemoved.Alwaysusethehandleattachedto
theashpanwhencarryingfordisposal.Oncetheashpanisemptiedreplaceitalongwiththegrate.
RecommendedFuels

ThisappliancehasobtainedapprovalfromHETASLtd,forburningthefollowingfuels–

Woodlogsonly.

TheHETASLtdApplianceapprovalonlycoverstheuseofthefollowingfuelsinthisappliance;–
woodlogsnotexceeding35cmsinlength.Approvaldoesnotcovertheuseofotherfuelseither

releasedintowatervapourwhichgoesintotheflueandlittleheatisgivenofftotheroom.The
moisturewillcombinewithothercombustionproductsformingastickysurfaceandtheriskof
obstruction,orworsestillachimneyfire,isgreater.Woodlogsarebeststoredinastack,sheltered
fromtheweather,inawellventilatedareaandraisedofftheground.Thisallowstheairtocirculate
andpreventsmildew.




StartingandMaintainingtheFire
Donotusegasoline,lighterfluid,keroseneorotherflammableliquidstostartorrekindlethefirefor
obvioussafetyreasons.
Buildafiredirectlyonthegratewithcrumplednewspaper,kindlingwoodand/orcommercially
available“firelighters”.Donotallowsinglepiecesofpapertofloatupthechimneyespecially
alight.Thisisacommoncauseofachimneyfireandcancausestructuraldamagetotheproperty.
Ensureallaircontrols(primaryandsecondary)arefullyopentobeginwithasshowninthepictures
above.Whenthekindlingisburningwell,addlargerpiecesofwoodorsolidfueltogradually
increasethesizeofthefire.Thestovewillworkmoreefficientlywiththemaindoorclosedasyou
willbeabletocontrolthecombustionairandtherateoffuelburning.Donotoperatethestovewith
thefuelloadingdooropenotherthantoloadfuel,asyouruntheriskofover‐firingthestove,thus
voidingthewarranty.Whenalight,theloadingdoorhandleandtheashpanhandlewillbecomevery
hot.Pleaseusethegloveprovidedtoavoidtouchinghotparts.

BURNINGWOODLOGS
Ifyouareonlyburningwoodlogs,youmayallowabedofashtobuildupontopofthegratetoa
levelofabout20mmformingaflatsurfaceonwhichthewoodmayburn.Youwillthenusethe“air‐
wash”frontlevertoprovidethecombustibleairandcontroltheburnrateofthefire.Tofullyopen,
slidethelevertotheleft.Byslidingthelevergraduallyyouwillbeabletocontroltherateofburn–
fullyopenbeingthefastestburnproducingmostheat.Toestablishthefireitisacceptabletoopen
theslidercompletely.Whenrefuelling,itisimportanttoopenthesliderfullytoensurethatthenew
logsigniteandblackenquickly(thisshouldtakeonly2to3minutes).Oncethefireisbright,closethe
slidertopreference,thiswillcontroltherateofburnforthefire.Youwillnothavetocleanoutyour
stoveaftereveryfiringaswoodwillburnbetterwithaslightbuildupofashintheashpan.Itisnot
advisabletoburnpaintedorrecoveredwood(suchasrailwaysleepers)asthiscontainsharmful
toxinsorflammableswhichmaycausethewoodto‘spit’.Thefireisdesignedtoburnefficientlyand
cleanlywith2mediumsizedlogsplacedevenlyonthegrate–donotoverloadthefire.Itisalways
importanttomaintainahotbedofembersbeforeeachreloadoffuel.










BURNINGWOODINASMOKECONTROLAREA.
TheeVolution5WoodburningstovehasbeentestedbyGASTECunderthePD6434standardand
haspassedtheemissionrequirementsforexemptionundertheCleanAirAct.Subsequentlyithas
beenexemptforuseinsmokecontrolareaswhenburningwoodonly
Smokeemissionsfromtheapplianceweremeasuredoverthreemainaircontrolsettings
representinghigh,mediumandlowoutputs.Thethreeoutputtestconditionsundertakeninthe
presentreportwereconductedwiththeaircontrol(i)fullyopen–highoutput,(ii)85%open–
mediumoutputand(iii)70%open–lowoutput
Thelowsettingusedwasnottheminimumsettingforthecontrol,theminimumaircontrolsetting
wouldgiveverypoorsmokereductionsinceitwaspossibletostarvetheapplianceofairalmost
completely.Alowsettingthatmaintainedcleancombustionwasdeterminedandusedasthelow
outputsetting(70%).
Thereisarequirementforthedoortobeleftajarfor5minutesimmediatelyafterrefuelling.Thisis
toensurethatflamesarewell‐establishedonthenewlychargedlogsandthattheybecomefully
blackened.Additionally,formediumandlowoutputburning,theaircontrolmustbemaintainedat
100%openforthefirst5minutesafterrefuellingatwhichtimeitispossibletoadjusttothe
requiredsettingsasidentifiedabove.
IgnitionProceedure
Theprocedureadoptedforignitionistobuildabedinstagesandtowarmthebodyoftheappliance
andthechimneyasquicklyaspracticable.
Firstlykindling,weighingapproximately1kgwillneedtobelit(usingachemicalfirelighteris
recommended)withtheaircontrolfullyopen.Thedoormustbepushedagainsttheappliancebut
thenleftajar.
Afterabout10minutes,whenthefirefromthekindlingisbeginningtodieback,twosmalllogscan
beadded.Whenthesearealightandfullyblackened,thedoorcanbeclosed.This,typically,takes
approximatelyafurtherfiveminutes.
Whenthefireisagainbeginningtodieback,afullloadoftwologs,weighingabout1.3‐1.4kg,can
beadded:typicallythistakes20–25minutesfromthestartoftheignitionsequence.Theair
controlmustbemaintainedinitsfullyopenpositionfortheremainderoftheignitionsequence.
Oncethefuelhasblackenedthefirecanthenbeallowedtoburndowntoasuitableconditionata
preferableairsliderposition.Forstartoffurtherrefuellingapplysequenceintheprevious2
sentences.

emissioncanoccur.Refuellingmustbecarriedoutontoasufficientquantityofglowingembersand
ashthatthenewfuelchargewilligniteinareasonableperiod.Iftherearetoofewembersinthefire
bed,addsuitablekindlingtopreventexcessivesmoke
4.Fueloverloading
Themaximumamountoffuelspecifiedinthismanualshouldnotbeexceeded,overloadingcan
causeexcesssmoke.
5.Operationwithdoorleftopen
Operationwiththedooropencancauseexcesssmoke.Theappliancemustnotbeoperatedwith
theappliancedoorleftopenexceptasdirectedintheinstructions.
6.Dampersleftopen
Operationwiththeaircontrolsordampersopencancauseexcesssmoke.Theappliancemustnot

manufacturedinaccordancewithBS8423:2002,Fireguardsforusewithsolidfuelappliances.
Aerosolsprays
Donotuseanaerosolsprayonornearthestovewhenitisalight.
Useofoperatingtools
Alwaysusetheoperatingtoolsprovidedwhenhandlingpartslikelytobehotwhenthestoveisin
use.
ChimneyFires
Ifthechimneyisthoroughlyandregularlyswept,chimneyfiresshouldnotoccur.However,ifa
chimneyfiredoesoccurturntheaircontrolsettingtotheminimum,andtightlyclosethedoorsof
thestove.Thisshouldcausethechimneyfiretogooutinwhichcasethecontrolshouldbekeptat
theminimumsettinguntilthefireinthestovehasgoneout.Thechimneyandfluewaysshouldthen
becleaned.Ifthechimneyfiredoesnotgooutwhentheaboveactionistakenthenthefirebrigade
shouldbecalledimmediately.
Afterachimneyfire,thechimneyshouldbecarefullyexaminedforanydamage.Expertadvice
shouldbesoughtifnecessary.



CleaningtheStoveandSummerShutdown
Onlycleanthestovewhencold.Tocleantheglass,eitheruseanovencleaningfluidordipawet
clothinthewoodashandgentlyrubclean.
Theoutsidecanbecleanedwithasoftbrush.Usealintfreeclothifnecessarybuttestanarea
first.Donotuseabrasivecleanersasthiswillremovethepaintandmayleaveachalkydeposit.
Undernocircumstancesuseayellowdusterasthefibreswillsticktotheroughsurfaceofthe
stoveandwillproduceapungentodournexttimethestoveisused!
Ifthestovehasaperiodofnon‐useleavetheprimaryandsecondaryaircontrolsintheopen
positiontoallowventilationthroughthestove.Thesideandrearbafflescanbeeasilyremoved
andarenotfixed.Liftthesidebaffleclearofthegratewithbothhandsandthentiltthebottom
oftheplateintothestove.Atthesametimelowerittothegratefloor.Repeatwiththeother
side.Therearplatewillliftout.Thethroatplatebafflesareheldinacradleandwillslideoutfor
inspectionandcleaning.Removethemtosweepthechimney.Replaceallremovedpartsbefore
usingthestove.
ChimneyCleaning
Thechimneyshouldbesweptatleastonceayearwhenburningonlysolidsmokelessfuelsand
twiceayearwhenburningwood.Itisimportantthattheflueconnectionandchimneyareswept
priortolightingupafteraprolongedshutdownperiod.
Insituationswhereitisnotpossibletosweepthroughthestovetheinstallerwillhaveprovided
alternativemeans,suchasasootdoor.Aftersweepingthechimneythestoveflueoutletand
thefluepipeconnectingthestovetothechimneymustbecleanedwithafluebrush.
Wherethechimneyisbelievedtohaveaservedanopenfireinstallationitispossiblethatthe
higherfluegastemperaturefromaclosedappliancemayloosendepositsthatwerepreviously
firmlyadhered,withtheconsequentriskofflueblockage.Itisthereforerecommendedthatthe
chimneybesweptwithinamonthofregularuseafterinstallation.Thebaffleplateshouldbe
checkedandcleanedifnecessaryatleastonceamonthduringtheheatingseason.











Trouble‐Shooting

1. Smokecomesoutofthestovewhentheloadingdoorisopened.

•Thechimneycavityintowhichthe125mmfluepipehasbeeninstalledmaybelessthan
theminimumrequirement.
•Deposits(soot)mayhavebuiltupinthechimneyandberestrictingtheflowofwaste
products.Thisflowrateisknownasthe‘draw’.

2. TheStovedoesnotproducetheexpectedheatintotheroom.

•Hasthefluepipebeensealedtothechimneytopreventheatbeingdrawnupthe
chimneytowaste?
•Greenorwetwoodisbeingburnt.
•Thechimneyhasexcessivedraw(thisisunusual).Seekinstalleradvicewithregard
toinstallingaFlueDraughtStabiliser.
•Thestovehasbeenrecessedintotheexistingfireplaceandalotofheatisabsorbed
bethesurroundingfireplacewallsratherthanbeingradiatedintotheroom.Pullthe
stoveforward.
•Forthemaximumefficiencyofheattransferenceintotheroomthestoveshouldbe
sitedonthehearthofthefireplaceratherthanrecessed.

3. TheStoveburnstoofast.

•Usewholelogsratherthansplitones.
•Thewoodbeingusedmaybegenerallytoosmall.
•The“air‐tight”sealbetweenthefibreropeonthedoorsandthecastingmayhavebeen
lost,adjustdoorhandlelocknutstoreinstatethisseal.
•Thechimneyhasexcessivedraw(seekinstallersadviceonthispoint).
•Thefibreropesealbetweenthedoorandtheglassmaybeleaking.Tightenorreplace.
•Theglassisnotsealed,gentlytightenglassretainingclips.Donotovertightenasthiswill
stressorbreaktheglass.
•Thefibreropeondoorsandglasshaswornout.Replace.
•

4. TheCastingsdonotlineup

•Thereareseveralpositionsonthesidecastingstoallowadjustmentifthecastingsdo
notlineupcorrectly.Byusingsmallrotationsadjustthescrewsattachedtothesideto
suitthedesireddistanceneeded.
•Ensurethebaseisattachedcorrectlyandorlinesuptothesidecastingsbefore
tighteningfully.

