Chapter 1 Getting Started
Features
• TheunitsupportsRAID6,RAID5,andRAID0mode.
• ParitythatisusedinRAID6andRAID5arraywillbecreatedbyparitygeneratorandDMAwithhigh
performance.
• Fortheinternaldrives,theyare"fluid-bearing"drivessotheyarequietandimpact-resistant.
• Youcanreplacethedrivewhiletheunitispoweredonbecauseitsupportshot-swapping.Ifonedriveis
damagedinRAID5,ortwodrivesaredamagedinRAID6,youcanrecoverdatabyreplacingthem.Iftwoormore
drivesinRAID5andthreeormoredrivesinRAID6fail,thenalldataonthearrayislost.
• TheunithasThunderbolt2,eSATA,andUSB3.0ports.IfThunderbolt2connectionsareenabled,eSATAandUSB
connectionsarenotavailable.
Precautions
To avoid damage to data, never do any of the following while data is being accessed. Your data may be
damaged or lost.
(1) UnplugtheThunderbolt,eSATA,orUSBcablesorpowercables
(2) Turnoffyourcomputer
(3) Putyourcomputerintostandby,hibernate,orsleepmode
• Refertoyourcomputer'smanualonhowtochangetheBIOSsettingtonotbootfromaUSBdevice.
• IfyourWindowscomputerwillnotbootwhiletheunitisconnected,trythefollowing:
(1)ConnecttheunittoyourcomputerafterbootingupWindows.
(2)Refertoyourcomputer'smanualtochangetheBIOSsettingnottobootfromaUSBdevice.
• Iftheunitisnotrecognizedbythecomputer,trythefollowing:
(1)UnplugtheThunderbolt,eSATA,orUSBcableandconnectitbackafterafewseconds.
(2)IfyouuseUSBhubs,unplugthecablefromitandconnectitdirectlytothecomputer.
• Insomeenvironments,Windowsmaydisplayamessage,"AHI-SPEEDUSBdeviceispluggedintoanon-HI-SPEED
USBhub."or"ThisDeviceCanPerformFaster"whenconnectingbyUSBcable.
ThemessagewilldisappearwhenconnectingtoUSB3.0port.
• Ifyouusetheunitwithmultiplepartitions,formateachpartitionbeforeuse.
• Neverconfiguretheunitasadestinationforvirtualmemory.
• Bootinganoperatingsystemfromtheunitisnotsupported.
• Somecomputersmaydisplayadelayedwritewhentheyreturnfromanenergy-savingstate.Ifthishappens,
unplugtheunitbeforeputtingyourcomputerintotheenergy-savingmode.
• Donotleananyobjectsagainsttheunit.Itmaycausetheunittomalfunction.
• Donotplaceobjectsintheareaaroundtheunit.Iftheheatistrappedinsidetheunit,itmaycausetheunitto
malfunction.
• Youmayhearsomenoisewhiletheunitisworking,especiallywhileit'sbootingorbeingaccessed.Thisis
normal.

• Thisunitsupportscustomizableintegrationsbeyondthedefaultsettingslistedinthismanual.However,unless
yourcurrentenvironmentwarrantstheseadvancedsettings,avoidchangingthemfromthedefault,otherwise
datalossorunitdamagemayoccur.
