BullFrog @Ease Sanitizing System Installation manual

Bullfrog Spa Start-Up and Maintenance Instructions
Using the @Ease Sanitizing System
How to maintain your spa, from first fill to yearly maintenance, using the
Bullfrog @Ease Sanitizing System.
In addition to these instructions, please also read the instruction sheet that is
included with your Bullfrog @Ease Sanitizing System Kit.
Start Up
Do this each time you fill the spa.
1. Fill your spa from below your filter case. Unscrew one of your filters and its
mounting cartridge completely, leaving an opening into the compartment or pipe
below the filter fitting. Insert the hose as far as it will go into the cavity. Turn
your hose bib to full force and fill the spa to just over the topmost jet. Filling your
spa in this way will help avoid air locks in the plumbing.
2. Add your chemicals with pump “1” running. Leave the cover open for about 10
minutes after you add chemicals – especially chlorine.
3. Add 6 capfuls of Stain & Scale to remove calcium and metals.
4. Check the pH level with your test strips. It should fall into the mid range (7.2-7.8)
on the test strip. If it doesn’t, balance your pH with Spaguard pH Increaser or
Spaguard pH Decreaser. pH Increaser will increase alkalinity, pH Decreaser will
decrease it (by increasing acidity). Start by adding small amounts (about a
tablespoon) and check back in about an hour (or the next day) to see the results.
5. Add a portion of the included @Ease Jump Start packet to establish a residual 0.5-
1.0 of free chlorine. One packet treats up to 600 gallons, so use a proportion of the
packet, adjusted to your spa’s volume.
6. Set the valve dial on the bottom of the @Ease Mineral Cartridge to setting #4.
7. Set the valve dial on the bottom of an @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge to the setting
for your Bullfrog Spa. This is:
#1 for the A5L & R5L
#2 for the A6, A6L, R6, R6L, Stil5, X7 & X7L
#3 for the A7, A7L, R8L, R7, R7L, Stil7, X8, X8L, M7 & M8
#4 for the A9L, A8, A8L, R8, & M9
If you use your spa more than an hour per day, you may eventually need to set
your @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge valve to the next highest setting.
8. Snap both cartridges into the cartridge holder, then insert the holder between your
filters.
9. You will replace the @Ease Mineral Cartridge every four months. You will
replace the @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge when the top pad on the @Ease Test
Strip shows a lighter color than the Out Indicator on the bottle. This should
happen approximately every three weeks.

Daily Use
1. Check the spa’s chlorine and pH levels daily (more or less) with the @Ease test
strips. Adjust your pH levels as needed. If the top pad on the @Ease Test Strip
shows a lighter color than the Out Indicator on the bottle, or your water is slightly
cloudy, you should check that there are still SmartChlor crystals in your cartridge.
If there are only a few left, replace the SmartChlor cartridge with a new one. If
your cartridge is still relatively full, turn the valve dial setting up one number for
just a few days.
2. When you get out of your spa, add about a tablespoon of Spaguard Spa Shock
Oxidizer (pure shock) to the water. Add ½ tablespoon more if more than two
people have been in the spa. Shock is an oxidizer than “burns up” the remnants of
biologicals and other organic material: it will keep your water clearer and
brighter.
Weekly
1. Add 4 capfuls of Stain & Scale to the spa water to prevent calcium buildup.
Every Three Weeks
1. The @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge will need to be replaced approximately every
three weeks, depending upon the frequency and intensity of your use of the spa.
Monthly
1. Remove your filters and clean them with a hose nozzle, rinsing out the pleats
from top to bottom.
Every 4 Months
1. Change your spa’s water. Optionally, before you drain your spa, add half a bottle
of Swirl Away jet cleaner to clean biofilm and other buildup out of your pipes.
Follow the instructions on the bottle, running the spa for an hour.
2. Replace your @Ease Mineral Cartridge.
Yearly
1. Replace your filters.
Useful Tips
1. If you have cloudy water and your @Ease SmartChlor Cartridge is not empty or
nearly empty, turn the valve dial setting on the cartridge up one number for just a

few days. You may need to leave it at this setting, depending on the intensity of
your use of the spa.
2. Leave your spa in “Beginner” mode. This is just as efficient as the other “Energy
Saving” modes but gives you better filtration. Remember that Bullfrog spas are
efficient because of their insulation and simplified plumbing, not just their control
settings.
3. If you use the spa daily for over half an hour, set your filter timer to two cycles of
1 hour each to save energy (they are preset to 2 hour cycles).
4. Open the valves at the bottom of your JetPaks when you get out of the spa. Do the
same with any individual jets you may have turned off. This will help with water
circulation and filtration.
