essential for the safe handling, operation,
and maintenance of the BURNDY®
PATRIOT® Series. The operator must read,
understand, and follow these instructions
and ALL safety warnings and labels before
operating these tools.
• Only use these tools in accordance with the manufacturer’s
specications. Other use of these tools may lead to
serious personal injury or death.
Each employer shall instruct each employee and user in
the recognition and avoidance of unsafe working conditions
and the laws and regulations applicable to his/her work
environment to control or eliminate any hazards or other
exposure to illness or injury. Reference: US OSHA 29CFR
1910 et seq.
If a conict arises between the material contained in this
manual, rules of the user, his/her employer or company,
and legal or industry guidelines the more stringent rules
take precedence and must be followed.

SPECIFICATIONS - HYDRAULIC
POWER SOURCE
The internal hydraulic power source achieves uid
pressures during normal operation. Do NOT disassemble
this tool at any time. Disassembly of this tool may result
in severe personal injury or tool damage, and will void
the warranty.
The hydraulic power system is located internally within
the PATRIOT® Crimper and is a non-eld serviceable
item. If you suspect that your tool is not functioning
properly, please contact the BURNDY® Tool Service
Center at: 1-800-426-8720.

OPERATING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Electrical shock hazard. This tool is NOT
insulated for use on or near energized
conductors. Use of this tool near energized
conductors may lead to electrical shock,
causing severe injury or death.
Pinch point hazard. Ram operates at high
speed and force and can cause severe
personal injury. Keep all body parts away
from moving parts of the tool.
Hydraulic uid under pressure. Do NOT use
any part of your body to locate a hydraulic
leak. Escaping uid under pressure can
cause severe injury or death. If injury
results from escaping hydraulic uid, seek
immediate medical attention to avoid serious
bodily injury.
Fall hazard. Do NOT over-reach while
operating this tool. Loss of balance can
cause serious personal injury or death.
Move closer to work area and securely
support yourself and your work. ALWAYS
keep proper footing and balance.
Projectile hazard. Wear eye protection and
personal protective equipment.
Explosive hazard. Do NOT use tool in an
explosive environment.
USE
Tools have been specifically designed for use with
BURNDY® Products. Use of non BURNDY® Products is
limited to those which conform to BURNDY® Technical
specications applicable to tools. Use of non BURNDY®
non-conforming products with the tool shall be deemed
misuse or abuse.
Always clip one end of the lanyard to the safety ring on
the tool and the other end to a secure point to avoid
accidental drop of more than 6 feet. Failure to follow this
instruction may result in personal injury or tool damage.
Use all appropriate personal safety equipment when
handling, operating, and maintaining this tool.
To help ensure safe operation of this tool, keep all safety
labels clean and legible. Replace labels when necessary
with new labels. See the PARTS SECTION of this manual
for information on reordering.
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other
metal objects like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws,
or other small metal objects that can make a connection
from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals
together may cause burns or a re.
BATTERY CARTRIDGE
Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from
the battery, avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs,
ush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek
medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause
irritation or burns. Before using battery cartridge, read
all instructions and cautionary markings on (1) battery
charger, (2) battery, and (3) product using battery. Do not
disassemble battery cartridge.
If operating time has become excessively shorter, stop
operating immediately. It may result in a risk of overheating,
possible burns and even an explosion.
If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them out with clear
water and seek medical attention right away. It may result
in loss of your eyesight.
Do not short the battery cartridge: (1) Do not touch the
terminals with any conductive material. (2) Avoid storing
battery cartridge in a container with other metal objects
such as nails, coins, etc. (3) Do not expose battery
cartridge to water or rain. A battery short can cause a
large current ow, overheating, possible burns and even
a breakdown.
Do not store the tool and battery cartridge in locations
where the temperature may reach or exceed 50°C (122°F).
Do not incinerate the battery cartridge even if it is severely
damaged or is completely worn out. The battery cartridge
can explode in a re. Be careful not to drop or strike battery.

DESCRIPTION
The BURNDY®PATRIOT® 444S Crimper is a Dieless Battery Actuated, Hydraulic Self-Contained Tool that can be
operated with one hand allowing for advance, retract and hold functions for easier tool operation. The BURNDY®
PATRIOT® 444S Crimper incorporates a high speed hydraulic pump, generating 11 tons US output. This design o󰀨ers
consistent compression connections every time.
Tool accepts 18V Makita Lithium Ion batteries, BL Series of size 2.0 Ahr and greater if the plastic battery clip in the
tool has a "star" molded into it. The "star" identies acceptance of the BL series batteries.
NOTE: For tools which do not have a “STAR” molded into the plastic battery clip, use is limited to the BL1830
(3.0 Ahr) battery. Forcing any other battery into this tool will void the warranty.

Read and follow all pre-operation and safety instructions
provided for your PATRIOT® Crimper and for the
battery charger (see Charger Instruction Manual) and
accessories. Failure to follow the proper operating
instructions and safety information provided can lead to
serious personal injury or death.
PRE-OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS OPERATION
This tool is NOT insulated for use on or
near energized conductors. Use of this
tool near energized conductors may lead
to electrical shock, causing severe injury or
death.
Pinch point hazard. Crimp ram operates
at high speed and force and can cause
severe personal injury. Keep all body parts
away from moving parts of the tool during
operation.
NOTE: Do not immerse the tool in water, as the PATRIOT®
tool is not designed to operate under water and it will void
the warranty! Always use the tool lanyard provided to
prevent dropping the PATRIOT®Crimper.
1) Read and follow the PRE-OPERATION instructions
and Battery Instruction Manual.
2) Ensure that the ram is fully retracted by depressing
the upper black trigger.
3) Insert a battery into the tool according to the
PRE-OPERATION instructions.
4) Position the tool properly on the connector, follow
the correct guideline to the left making certain that
the indenter is aligned over the crimp area indicators.
5) Insert the conductor into the connector, depress
and hold the lower trigger to advance the tool.
6) Continue holding the lower trigger until you hear
the audible pop.
7) Depress and hold the upper, black trigger until ram
fully retracts, or enough to move to next crimp location.
8) Continue crimping the connector until the proper
number of crimps have been completed. Work from
the center to the outer edges for splices, alternating
sides if possible, for the best compression connection.
Remove tool from connection.
CORRECT INCORRECT
Before operating your PATRIOT® Crimper, carefully
read and follow these PRE-OPERATION instructions to
ensure your tool is in proper working condition. Read and
follow the Battery Charger Instruction Manual included
for operating your battery charger unit. Following these
instructions, charge the battery(s).
NOTE: Before proceeding to step 1, Remove Battery.
1. Depress the upper black trigger rst to make certain
that the tool ram is fully retracted.
2. With a fully charged battery installed, depress the lower
trigger until the jaws of the PATRIOT® Crimper close.
You will hear an audible pop when the tool has reached
maximum output and the crimp is complete.
3. Remove Battery from Tool when not in use.
Please note that it is not necessary to have a battery
installed in the PATRIOT® Crimper in order to retract the
tool ram.

MAINTENANCE
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Failure to perform regular maintenance tasks could result
in bodily injury and/or property damage.
The service life of a tool can be greatly improved with
proper care and maintenance. To extend the life of your
PATRIOT® Crimper follow the recommended maintenance
tasks outlined below.
• Keep the tool exterior clean at all times, especially the
T-track area of the head and die holder. Remove dirt,
debris, and other foreign substances from external
surfaces daily, to help prevent corrosion and damage
to the tool, the ram & piston mechanism.
• Remove all surface contaminants. When surface
contaminants cannot be removed with a cloth, spray
head and ram piston with a general purpose cleaning
solution to help loosen contaminants. Avoid getting
solvents onto the plastic housing as some cleaners
& solvents may damage the housing material. Using
a sti󰀨 brush, never metal, remove all contaminants in
and around the ram and piston area and allow solvent
to drain o󰀨 tool.
• Extreme care should be taken to prevent contamination
from entering the hydraulic system. The PATRIOT®
hydraulic circuit is a closed system.
• Inspect the tool for signs of leaks, cracks, wear or
damage.
• Lightly lubricate the external ram & piston surfaces, and
die buttons with a high grade silicone lubricant.
• Wipe the tool with a clean and dry rag before placing the
tool into the case.
SERVICE
Tool servicing by unqualied personnel may lead to serious
personal injury and will void the warranty. Do not attempt
to service or repair any BURNDY® tool.

TOOL TO THE BURNDY®TOOL SERVICE CENTER
OR BURNDY® AUTHORIZED TOOL REPAIR CENTER.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS &
ANSWERS:
1. Q - How many crimps can I get before I
need to recharge the battery?
It is very di󰀩cult to estimate the amount of crimps you
will get before recharging the battery. This will depend
on many factors such as temperature, size and type of
material being crimped, how the tool is used, the weather,
etc. See below for more information.
The weather - Extreme cold temperatures can reduce
the battery charge by up to 60%. Keep charged batteries
in a warm place, but not in your pockets, since coins and
other metal parts may contact the battery terminal strips,
causing a short circuit. Warm weather users will nd they
get more crimps per charge than users in colder climates.
The size & type of material being crimped - All Copper,
Aluminum, ACSR, Steel ground rods, etc., and connectors,
require di󰀨erent force to compress. Diameter is also a
factor in determining how many crimps you can achieve
before a recharge is needed. Some cable and connector
combinations being crimped may require more frequent
battery recharging.
How you use the tool - If you make crimps one right after
another, you will need more frequent battery recharging
than if you make a few crimps and pause a moment
prior to crimping again. Full retraction after each crimp is
not required if you're crimping small cables, while larger
cables may require full retraction. Advancing the ram each
time to approach small cables and connectors drains the
battery faster than just retracting enough to move to the
next crimp location.
The vast number of variables makes it di󰀩cult to provide
exact number of crimps per charge for every possible eld
situation.
2. Q - How long will the batteries last?
Under ideal circumstances each battery could be
recharged up to 2000 times before it will no longer accept
a charge. This number may vary due to individual use
and charging habits.
3. Q - Can the batteries be recycled?
YES! Once the battery no longer accepts a recharge,
simply follow the recycling instruction included in this
manual for proper recycling. If your local community or
company has a recycling program, you may choose to
contact them for instructions on recycling. Always properly
dispose of spent batteries by following the manufacturers
recommended recycling procedures.

4. Q - How far can the tool be dropped without
damaging it?
The PATRIOT®Crimper has been designed to withstand
drops of six feet; however, due to the endless angles at
which a tool can be dropped, damage can still occur. The
outer housing is designed of a high strength composite
polymer plastic, but can be broken depending upon the
surface (pavement, grass, rocks, etc.) being dropped
upon and/or the angle of impact. The internal working
assemblies should survive without damage. We strongly
recommend that the tool restraint lanyard be used at all
times to help prevent dropping the tool. Drops without the
lanyard attached would be considered abusive treatment.
5. Q - How do I know when I've properly
completed a crimp?
The PATRIOT® Crimper produces an audible pop when
the crimp has been properly completed.
6. Q - Does the tool require a charged battery
in order to retract the ram?
NO, the PATRIOT® Crimper utilizes a mechanical retraction
mechanism which allows the ram to retract without the
battery.
Tips for maintaining maximum battery life
1. Charge the battery cartridge before completely
discharged. Always stop tool operation and charge
the battery cartridge when you notice less tool power.
2. Never recharge a fully charged battery cartridge.
Overcharging shortens the battery service life.
3. Charge the battery cartridge with room
temperature at 10°C - 40°C (50°F - 104°F). Let a hot
battery cartridge cool down before charging it.
4. Charge the Lithium-ion battery cartridge when you do
not use it for more than six months.

When recycling batteries you must include a bill of lading
in order to comply with all applicable state and federal
requirements, or the recycling center may be forced to
return the shipment at your expense. If you have any
questions, please contact the recycling center directly.
The EPA certied RBRC Recycling Seal indicates BURNDY®
is voluntarily participating in a program to recycle these
batteries at the end of their useful life. The RBRC program
provides a convenient alternative to placing batteries
into the trash, which may be illegal in your area. Please

• Used batteries may have a signicant residual charge. It
is important that they are prevented form short-circuiting.
This can be done by placing the batteries separately in
plastic bags or by placing non-conductive tape over the
battery terminals.
• While these batteries are normally safe to handle, they do
contain caustic materials that may have "vented" due to
misuse during the life of the battery. If the battery appears
to be "dirty" or have a white "lm-like" substance around
the terminal, exercise caution when handling the battery.
Do not touch the dirty area. Wash your hands with soap
and water if they feel itchy, and avoid touching your eyes,
nose, mouth.
• Do not attempt to discharge the battery by short-circuiting
the terminals, consult your battery supplier for proper
instructions on discharging batteries.
• Do not bite, or place the battery in your mouth or nose.
• Do not place wet batteries in a plastic bag. The trapped
moisture will cause the battery to rust.

feasible. Recycling regulations and methods vary within
North America and BURNDY® does not endorse any one
recycling method or company. Consumers that wish to
recycle BURNDY® products in North America are asked to
do so according to your local, state and federal regulations.

ESPECIFICACIONES - FUENTE DE
ALIMENTACIÓN HIDRÁULICA
La fuente de alimentación hidráulica interna alcanza
altas presiones de uido durante la operación normal.
NO desmonte esta herramienta en ningún momento.
El desmontaje de esta herramienta puede ocasionar
lesiones personales graves o daños a la herramienta, y
anulará la garantía.
El sistema de alimentación hidráulica está ubicado
internamente dentro de la engarzadora PATRIOT® y es
un ítem que no se puede reparar in-situ. Si sospecha
que su herramienta no está funcionando correctamente,
entre en contacto con el Centro de Servicio Técnico de
Herramientas de BURNDY® al: 1-800-426-8720.

USO
Las herramientas fueron diseñadas especícamente para
el uso con productos BURNDY®. El uso de productos
diferentes de BURNDY® se limita a aquellos que cumplan
con las especicaciones técnicas de BURNDY® aplicables
para herramientas. El uso de productos no conformes con
BURNDY® con la herramienta se considerarán como uso
indebido o abuso.
Enganche siempre un extremo de la cuerda al anillo de
seguridad en la herramienta y el otro extremo a un punto seguro
para evitar la caída accidental de más de 6 pies. El no seguir
estas instrucciones puede ocasionar lesiones personales o
daños a la herramienta.
Para ayudar a garantizar la operación segura de esta
herramienta, mantenga todas las etiquetas de seguridad
limpias y legibles. Reemplace las etiquetas cuando sea
necesario por etiquetas nuevas. Consulte la SECCIÓN
DE PIEZAS de este manual para más información sobre
reabastecimiento.
Cuando el paquete de baterías no esté en uso, manténgalo
alejado de objetos metálicos como clips de papel, monedas,
llaves, tornillos u otros objetos de metal pequeños que pueda
hacer conexión de una terminal a otra. Cortocircuitar las
terminales de la batería puede provocar quemaduras o un
incendio.

Peligro de atrapamiento. El pistón de
compresión funciona a alta velocidad y
con fuerza y puede ocasionar lesiones
personales graves. Mantenga todas las
partes del cuerpo alejadas de piezas
en movimiento de la herramienta,
especialmente el área de la cabeza y el
porta troquel durante la operación.
Fluido hidráulico bajo presión. NO utilice
ninguna parte de su cuerpo para localizar
una fuga hidráulica. La fuga de un uido
bajo presión puede provocar lesiones
graves o incluso la muerte. Si se provoca
una lesión por la fuga de uido hidráulico,
busque atención médica inmediata para
evitar lesiones corporales graves.
NO extenderse demasiado al operar esta
herramienta. La pérdida de equilibrio puede
provocar lesiones personales graves o
incluso la muerte. Acérquese al área de
trabajo y apóyese y apoye su trabajo
con seguridad. Mantenga SIEMPRE una
posición rme y el equilibrio.

PRECAUCIONES DE SEGURIDAD DE
OPERACIÓN
CARTUCHO DE BATERIA
En condiciones de uso inadecuado, es posible que el líquido
salga expulsado de la batería, evite el contacto. Si ocurre
contacto accidental, enjuague con agua. Si el líquido entra
en contacto con los ojos, busque asistencia médica. El
líquido expulsado de la batería puede provocar irritación o
quemaduras. Antes de usar el cartucho de la batería, lea las
instrucciones y las señales de precaución en el (1) cargador
de baterías, la
(2) batería, y el (3) producto que usa la batería. No desmonte
el cartucho de baterías.
Si el tiempo de operación se acorta excesivamente, detenga
la operación inmediatamente. Puede ocasionar un riesgo
de sobrecalentamiento, posibles quemaduras e incluso una
explosión.
Si el electrolito entra en sus ojos, enjuáguelos con agua limpia
y busque asistencia médica inmediatamente. Puede provocar
la pérdida de su visión.
No cortocircuite el cartucho de baterías: (1) No toque
los terminales con ningún material conductivo. (2) Evite
almacenar el cartucho de baterías en un contenedor con otros
objetos metálicos como clavos, monedas, etc. (3) No exponga
el cartucho de baterías al agua o a la lluvia. Un cortocircuito
puede provocar un gran ujo de corriente, sobrecalentamiento,
posibles quemaduras e incluso averías.
No almacene la herramienta ni el cartucho de baterías cuando
la temperatura pueda alcanzar o exceder los 50"C (122"F). No
incinere el cartucho de baterías incluso si se daña gravemente
o si se gasta en su totalidad. El cartucho de baterías puede
explotar en un incendio.Tenga cuidado para no soltar o golpear
la batería.

DESCRIPCIÓN
La engarzadora BURNDY®PATRIOT® 444S es una herramienta hidráulica autónoma, accionada a batería y sin troquel
que puede ser operada a una mano permitiendo las funciones de avance, retracción y sujeción para una operación
más fácil. La engarzadora BURNDY®PATRIOT® 444S incorpora una bomba hidráulica de alta velocidad, generando
una potencia de 11 toneladas estadounidenses. Este diseño ofrece conexiones
de compresión consistentes siempre.
La herramienta admite baterías de iones de litio Makita de 18 V, Serie BL de tamaño 2.0 Ahr y superior si el clip de
plástico de la batería en la herramienta cuenta con una "cruz" moldeada. La "cruz" identica que la herramienta admite
baterías de la Serie BL.
Nota: Para las herramientas que no cuentan con la "cruz" moldeada en el clip de plástico de la batería, el uso
está limitado a la batería BL 1830 (3.0 Ahr). Forzar cualquier otra batería en esta herramienta anulará la garantía.

INSTRUCCIONESDEPREOPERACIÓN
Lea y siga todas las instrucciones de preoperación y de
seguridad provistas para su engarzadora PATRIOT®y
para el cargador de la batería (consulte el Manual de
Instrucciones del cargador) y accesorios. El no seguir
las instrucciones de operación y las informaciones de
seguridad apropiadas provistas puede ocasionar lesiones
personales graves o incluso la muerte.
Antes de operar su Engarzadora PATRIOT® , lea
cuidadosamente y siga esas instrucciones de
PREOPERACIÓN para garantizar que su herramienta
esté en condiciones adecuadas de funcionamiento. Lea
y siga las instrucciones del Manual de instrucciones del
cargador de la batería incluido para utilizar su unidad
cargadora de baterías. Siga estas instrucciones, cargar
la(s) batería(s).
NOTA: Antes de proceder con el paso 1 Retire la batería.
1. Presione el gatillo negro superior para asegurarse
que el cilindro de la herramienta está completamente
retraído.
2. Con una batería plenamente cargada instalada,
presione el gatillo inferior hasta que el buril de la
engarzadora PATRIOT® cierre. Escuchará un sonido
cuando la herramienta haya alcanzado el resultado
máximo y el engarce esté completo.
3. Retire la batería de la herramienta cuando no la utilice.
Note que no es necesario tener una batería instalada en
la Engarzadora PATRIOT® para retraer el cilindro de la
herramienta.
OPERACIÓN

movimiento de la herramienta durante la
operación.

NOTA: ¡No sumerja la herramienta en agua, ya que la
herramienta PATRIOT® no está diseñada para funcionar
bajo el agua y anulará la garantía! Utilice siempre el
cordón de herramientas provisto para evitar que se caiga
el engarzador PATRIOT®.
1) Lea y sigas las instrucciones de PREOPERACIÓN
y el Manual de instrucciones de la batería.
2) Asegúrese que el cilindro esté completamente
retraído presionando el gatillo negro superior.
3) Inserte una batería en la herramienta según las
instrucciones de PREOPERACIÓN.
4) Coloque la herramienta correctamente en el conector,
siga la pauta correcta para la izquierda, asegurándose de
que el penetrador es alineado sobre los indicadores de la
zona de prensado.
5) Inserte el conductor en el conector, presione y
mantenga el gatillo inferior para mover la herramienta.
6) Continúe presionando el gatillo inferior hasta que
escuche una señal sonora.

7) Presione y mantenga presionado el gatillo negro
superior hasta que el cilindrose retraiga completamente, o
lo suciente para moverse a la próxima ubicación.
8) Continúe engarzando el conector hasta que el número
apropiado de engarces se haya completado. Opere desde
el centro hacia los bordes externos para empalmes,
alternando lados si es posible, para la mejor conexión de
compresión. Retire la herramienta de la conexión.
La vida útil de una herramienta puede mejorar
considerablemente con cuidado y mantenimiento
apropiado. Para extender la vida de su Engarzadora
PATRIOT® siga las tareas de mantenimiento
recomendadas indicadas a continuación.
• Mantenga el exterior de la herramienta limpio siempre,
especialmente el área de la cabeza y del porta troqueles.
Quite el polvo, detritos y otras sustancias extrañas de las
supercies externas a diario, para ayudar a prevenir la
corrosión y daños a la herramienta y al mecanismo del
cilindro y pistón.
• Quite todos los contaminantes de la supercie. Cuando
los contaminantes de la supercie no se pueden remover
con un paño, rocíe la cabeza y el pistón del cilindro con
una solución de limpieza para uso general para ayudar
a remover los contaminantes. Evite que el solvente entre
en contacto con los compartimientos de plástico ya que
algunos limpiadores y solventes pueden dañar el material
del compartimiento. Usando una brocha rígida, nunca
metal, remueva todos los contaminantes en y alrededor
del área del cilindro y pistón y deje que el solvente pase
a través de la herramienta.
• Se debe tener cuidado extremo para prevenir que la
contaminación ingrese al sistema hidráulico. El circuito
hidráulico de PATRIOT® es un sistema cerrado.
• Inspeccione señales de fugas, rajaduras, desgaste o
daños en la herramienta.
• Lubrique levemente las supercies externas del cilindro
y del pistón y los botones del troquel con un lubricante de
silicio de alto grado.
• Limpie la herramienta con un trapo limpio y seco antes
de colocar la herramienta en el estuche.
