DAB+wasdevelopedinEuropebyaconsortiumofbroadcastersandmanufacturers.DAB+usesdigitalcompression
techniquestotransformthesourcematerial,i.e.musicandspeech,intobetterqualityaudio.
InterferenceFreeReception
Analoguesystemssufferfromaneffectcalled“multipathdistortion”.Thisisbecausewavesdonotbehaveinan
orderlyfashion,butbounceandreflectoffbuildingsetc.DAB+seesthisasanadvantageandusesthedirectedand
reflectedsignalstoreinforcetheendresult,allowingforbetterservicemoreofthetime.
NoNeedtoRe‐tune
AsingleDAB+frequencycanbeusedtocoverthewholeoftheAustralia,sosolvingmanyproblemsexperienced
withtheearlieranaloguesystem.DAB+scansautomaticallyandtunes‐inalloftheavailablestationsinyourarea.

TheantennashouldbeextendedtoensuregoodreceptioninDAB+,FM,AM,MW&LWradiomodes.Itmaybe
necessarytoalterthepositionoftheDAB+Radioand/orantennatoachievethebestsignal.
UsingHeadphones
TolistentoyourDAB+RadioviaHeadphones,youwillrequireheadphoneswitha3.5mmdiameterstereoplug(not
included).TheHeadphoneSocketislocatedonthebackoftheunit.PlugtheHeadphoneJackintotheHeadphone
socket,thespeakersoundwillautomaticallyturnoffoncetheheadphoneispluggedin.

TurningonyourDAB+Radio
1. ConnectthePowerleadtothepowersocketonthebackoftheunit.Thenconnectthepowerleadtothemains
walloutlet.
2. Toswitchon,turntheOn/Off&VolumeControltotheright.PresstheDAB+Button.WhenDABModeis
selectedforthefirsttime,thedisplaywillilluminateandwelcometoDABwillbedisplayed.Thencarefully
extendantennaforthebestpossiblereception.
3. WhenyouturnonyourDAB+Radioforthefirsttimeitwillconductafullstationscanandstorealltheavailable
RadioStationsinthestationslist.Thismaytakeafewminutes.
#Note:a.TheDAB+stationswillbedisplayedinalphanumericorder.Thefirststationinthelistwillbeplayed
afterthescanhasbeencompleted.
b.IfnoDAB+signalisfoundinyourarea,itmaybenecessaryforyoutorelocateyourradio.
ChangingStations
ToscrollthroughthestationlistandchangetheDAB+Stationplaying,presstheNavigationButtons(leftandright
arrowsonthetopoftheradio).PresstheButtonsrepeatedlytoscrollthroughthelist.Thestationswillbedisplayed
online3ofthedisplay.
AdjustingtheVolume
Toadjustthevolumeturnthevolumewheel,locatedonthetopoftheradio.Toincreasethevolumeturnittothe
rightandtodecreasethevolumeturnthewheeltotheleft.
ToneDial
ThetonedialisusedtoaltertheaudiooutputoftheDABdigitalradiobetweenahigh(treble)andlow(bass)
frequencyrange.Turnthetonedialrighttoenhancethehighfrequency(treble)contentofthesoundoutput.Turn
thetonediallefttoenhancethelowfrequency(bass)contentofthesoundoutput.

#Note:withaDAB+radio,it’sagoodideatoconductastationscaneverynowandthentomakesurethatyou
havethemostuptodatestationliststoredinthememoryofyourradio.Asnewstationsareoftenaddedor
replaced.
InDAB+Mode,presstheAutoButtontoactivateafullstationsearch.Theradiowillbeginautomaticallyandwill
storeallavailablestations.Abargraphwillbedisplaywillsearchingandwillindicatethenumberofstationsfound
andthescanprogress.
Youmayseesomesymbolsdisplayedalongsidethestationsnames.Thesearedefinedasfollows:

TheBushTR82DABRadioallowsyoutosetupto10StationPresets.Thismeansyoucaneasilyaccessallofyour
favouritestationsatatouchofaButton.
1. Tostoreastationpreset,youmustfirsttunetothestationyouwishtosetasapreset.
2. ThenpressandholdoneofthepresetButtons(e.g.1/6).Preset,#savedwillappearonthethirdlineofthe
display,wherethe#isthenumberofthepresetposition.
3. Toselectthesecondsetofpresetpositions–6‐10,holddowntheshiftButtonthenpressandholdthedesired
presetButton.
4. IfyouhavealreadysavedastationinthatpresetpositionthenewSelectionwithoverridethepreviousstation
saved.

providedonthenextpage.ToviewtheinformationpresstheDisplayButtonrepeatedlytoscrollthroughthe

DynamicLabelSegment(DLS):DLSisthescrollingtextinformationsuppliedbytheDAB+stationorbythe
broadcaster.
ProgramType(PTY):ThisisadescriptionofthetypeofprogramprovidedbytheDAB+stationorbybroadcaster.
MultiplexName:Thiswillshowthemultiplexthatisbroadcastingtheprogramyouarelisteningto.
TimeandDate:Thiswilldisplaythetimeanddateandisprovidedbythebroadcaster.

DRCaddsorremovesadegreeofcompressiontocompensateforthedifferenceinthedynamicrangebetweenradio
stations.Forexample,astationbroadcastingpopularmusicmayahighlevelofcompressionappliedsincethe
emphasisisonaconstanthighlisteninglevel,whereasastationbroadcastingclassicalmusicwillhavelittleorno
compressionasthelistenerrequiresallofthehighsandlowsinthemusictodefinethedetail.
Therearethreelevelsofcompression:
•DRC0Nocompressionapplied.
•DRC1MaximumCompressionapplied(thisisthedefault).
•DRC½MediumCompressionapplied.
Thebestwaytodeterminedwhichofthesesettingssuitsyoubestistoexperimentwiththemonavarietyof
sourcematerial.
1. PresstheMenuButtontoaccesstheMenucontrol.
2. PresstheNavigationButtonsuntil‘DRCvalue’isdisplayed.
3. PresstheSelectButtontoaccess‘DRCvalue’.ThecurrentDRClevelwillbedisplayedonline2ofthe
display.
4. PresstheNavigationButtonstoselectbetweenthethreeDRCvalues.Theavailableoptionappearson
line3ofthedisplay.
5. WhentherequiredDRCvalueisdisplayedpresstheSelectButtontoconfirm.Youshouldbehearthe
differenceincompressionimmediately.

backgroundnoiseasnostationshasbeentunedin.
Tuningtheradio
Totuneintoaradiobroadcast/station,turnthetuningcontrolleftorrightuntilpointerisalignedwiththedesired
frequencymarkingsonthetuningdial.
Whenthepointerishorizontalyouhaveeitherreachedthestart,orendofthefrequencyrange.Donotattemptto
forcethedialfurtherinthesamedirection.
AdjustingtheVolume
Toadjustthevolumeturnthevolumewheel,locatedonthetopoftheradio.Toincreasethevolumeturnittothe
rightandtodecreasethevolumeturnthewheeltotheleft.
ToneDial
ThetonedialisusedtoaltertheaudiooutputoftheDABdigitalradiobetweenahigh(treble)andlow(bass)
frequencyrange.Turnthetonedialrighttoenhancethehighfrequency(treble)contentofthesoundoutput.Turn
thetonediallefttoenhancethelowfrequency(bass)contentofthesoundoutput.
UsingLineOut
ThesignalfromtheDAB+digitalradiocanbeconnectedtoanotherstereoaudiodeviceviathe3.5mmLineOut
Socketontherighthandsideoftheradio.
Youwillrequireastereocablewhichisterminatedwithconnectorswhichmatchthesocketsonyourotheraudio
device.
