instructions for using th Spirit®. R f r to th POI

To Fill the Top Fill Spirit®:
1. Cl an th fill conn ctors on both th stationary and
th Spirit®with a cl an, dry, lint-fr cloth.
Caution: The fill connectors must be dry, bec use
moisture c n c use your Spirit®nd st tion ry unit
to freeze together.
2. Mak sur th flow control knobs
on both th Spirit and r s rvoir
ar in th off (0) position.

To Fill the Side Fill Spirit®:
1. Cl an th fill conn ctors on both th stationary and
th Spirit®with a cl an, dry, lint-fr cloth.

Note: For push-on style connector, hold the unit in
pl ce throughout the fill.
6. Op n th v nt valv to b gin filling your Spirit®. You
should h ar som oxyg n scaping; do not worry. Th
hissing sound you h ar is p rf ctly normal.
7. You may also s vapor around th conn ction. This is
normal and is du to th gr at diff r nc in
t mp ratur b tw n th liquid oxyg n and th warm
air surrounding th units.
8. Wh n th unit is full, clos th v nt valv . You can t ll
that th unit is full wh n th hissing sound chang s in
ton , and som liquid com s out of th v nt lin .
Note: Closing the v lve fter ne rly continuous
stre m of liquid is disch rging fills the Spirit®most
completely, but w stes some liquid oxygen. Step 6

Warning: Should the le k ge be excessive to the
point th t stre m of liquid is present, le ve the
re nd c ll your he lth c re provider immedi tely.
Caution: If the Spirit®is being refilled immedi tely
fter period of use, fill the Spirit®nd then w it 10
minutes fter filling with the flow r te selection knob
set t zero for the pressure to st bilize. Then
oper te s norm l.
Warning: Liquid or cold g seous oxygen c n
frostbite the skin. Oxygen will result in incre sed
fire h z rd.
Note: Closing the v lve t the first sign of liquid
disch rge does not fill the Spirit®s completely, but
s ves liquid oxygen.
9. For th push-on styl conn ctors, push th r l as
button down until th units s parat . For all oth r
conn ctors, rotat th unit until it s parat s from th
stationary unit.
Caution: Check liquid level g uge only fter the
v lve is closed.
Caution: If the Spirit®does not sep r te e sily, do
not use force. The units m y be frozen together.
W it until the units w rm up—then they’ll sep r te
e sily. Do not touch ny frosted p rts. Should there
be ny liquid le k ge from the st tion ry unit or
Spirit®fter sep r tion, re tt ch the Spirit®
immedi tely. Ag in sep r te the units. If the problem
persists, le ve units coupled nd c ll your he lth
c re provider.

Note: M ke sure th t the flow selector knob fully
eng ges t the selected setting. If the knob is
between settings, the unit will turn off nd then b ck
on nd deliver prolonged burst of O2 s it powers
up.
Note: The Spirit®delivery system is designed for
m ximum bre thing r te of 40 BPM. With bre thing
r tes gre ter th n 40 BPM oxygen dos ge m y not
be delivered with e ch bre th.
Note: When turning the flow control knob from
either (0) or (CF) to flow setting, there will be
prolonged burst of O2 delivered through the
c nnul *. Ple se do not be l rmed s this is
norm l oper tion.

Operating Instructions
1. Push th cannula br athing tub firmly on to th
oxyg n tub conn ctor.
2. Adjust th cannula br athing tub to th prop r
position so that you will b abl to br ath th oxyg n
comfortably.
3. Turn th flow rat s l ction knob on top of th Spirit®
clockwis until th pr scrib d flow rat (num ral) is
visibl in th knob “window” and a positiv d t nt is
f lt.
4. With ach br ath, you should now b r c iving a s t
dosag of oxyg n gas. Th LED will illuminat gr n
with ach br ath, signaling that th Spirit®d liv ry
syst m is b ing trigg r d. Wh n th LED illuminat s
r d with ach br ath, it is tim to r plac th
batt ri s.
*Cannula is not includ d.

Note: The LED will illumin te green with e ch
detected bre th, reg rdless of the liquid oxygen
contents, even if the Spirit®h s no liquid oxygen left.
5. To stop th oxyg n d liv ry syst m, turn th flow rat
s l ction knob count rclockwis back to th off
position.
Caution: lw ys turn the flow control knob off (0)
when not in use.
6. Th Spirit®d liv ry syst m is pow r d by (2) C-C ll
alkalin batt ri s. Wh n th LED illuminat s r d, it
is tim to r plac th batt ri s. As long as th r d
LED illuminat s, th Spirit®will d liv r oxyg n
unl ss it is mpty.

Note: If repl cement b tteries re not re dily
v il ble, turn the flow r te selection knob to the
furthest clockwise position l beled (CF). The Spirit®
will now deliver continuous flow r te of 2 liters per
minute (LPM).
Warning: Using the Spirit®in the continuous flow
(CF) mode will consume the oxygen t f ster r te.
Monitor the contents indic tor, so you do not run out
of oxygen.
Note: The continuous flow (CF) mode is not
powered by the b tteries, so it c n be used whether
the low b ttery LED is on or not.
Note: When using the Spirit®in continuous
flow, the LED will NOT illumin te green or red with
e ch bre th.

•Support th unit dir ctly abov th black cont nts
indicator spring scal chamb r.
•Allow th unit to stabiliz (i. . not bounc up and
down), th n r ad th xpos d color d scal for
approximat liquid oxyg n cont nts.
Note: If the unit is empty, only the red colored b nd
of the sc le will be exposed. If this is the c se, the
unit must be filled prior to use.

Condensate Pad Maintenance:
1. Und r c rtain nvironm ntal conditions, sp cially
with continuous flow and littl mov m nt, th Spirit®
may d v lop xc ss frost around th vaporiz r coil and
on th cas . You may r duc this frost by tapping th
unit and/or wiping any accumulat d frost off th cas .
2. Aft r th Spirit®is mpty and has warm d up to
room t mp ratur , r mov any moistur from th
cond nsation pad.
•Unzip th zipp r at th bas of th unit to acc ss th
cond nsation pad.
•R mov th pad and wring out any absorb d
moistur . Allow th pad to dry compl t ly b for
r placing it back in th unit.
•Plac dry pad back in th unit. Mak sur to
compl t ly r zip th zipp r.
