The ESB is a budget-priced inrush peak
current limiter for high loads in LED-
applications, complex automation systems
and in the machine building. The ESB101
offers effective and interference free operation
with capacitive loads. It is simple to integrate
into existing equipment. The ESB101 is self-
powering and does not require an external
power supply.
No simple NTC-solution! It allows to
reduce cabling sections and to install
fast circuit breakers. 100% protection
from tripping pre-installed circuit
breakers or burning relay and line
switch contacts.

General Descripti n
The CAMTEC ESB101-series are the 2nd generati n and c st-effective inrush current limiters. The limiters are made f r
115/230Vac 16A netw rks. The line frequency range is 16⅓Hz – 440Hz. The ESB101-Limiter shall be l cated between
the line-switcher/c ntact r and the l ad (Fig.1). The ESB-m dels are designed f r capacitive l ads (n t f r inductive
l ads like c ils/transf rmers, n t f r AC-m t rs and n t f r DC-v ltage applicati n). In the m ment f switching- n the
system the inrush current f the installed l ad will be limited f r the defined time T
n
(Fig.4). Independent fr m the
previ us inrush level; the current limiting is always strict. After T
n
elapses the current limiting circuit f the ESB101 will
be bypassed. Then the l ad is directly c nnected t the AC. If an AC dump versh ts the defined time T
ff
, it will be
detected by the ESB101 (Fig.5). As s n as the AC rec vers the inrush will be limited, again (Fig.2 & 3). The ESB101-
m dels pr vide an internal temperature c ntr l. In case f a failure the device shuts d wn t safely prevent fr m
verheating r fire.

Field Applicati ns
The ESB101 limiter all ws c nnecting much m re capacitive l ads (e.g. LED-p wer supply / LED-driver) t a pre-installed
circuit breaker CB (Fig.1). The ESB av ids that the MCB will be tripped. This ccurs independent t the bjective initial
current. The result is that the number f A.C. branch lines and the pre-installed MCB can be reduced dramatically.
Installati n c st exhibit a sustained decline. Alternatively, the cr ss secti n f the branch lines can be reduced when
using smaller and faster resp nding circuit breakers. The c st saving fr m c pper is essential. Sensitive AC netw rks
can be fused safer (e.g. Traffic C ntr l Systems, Street-Lighting, Parking L ts and Tunnels). When the ESB101 is installed
c rrectly, the neutral wire (N) is l ped tr ugh (Fig.1). The inrush pr tecti n circuit always acts t the line c nduct r.
The l ad relates t the AC in such a way that a circuit breaker r an earth-leakage-trip w rks within the limits f the
legal rules. This fact is als applied while the limiting circuit acts. The ESB101 is designed f r capacitive l ads, nly. The
ESB101 cann t be used t gether with transf rmers, c ils, AC-m t rs & drives, heaters, hmic l ad, r with DC-v ltage
at all.

C mpared t all ther ESB101-m dels the LED-types are the universal inrush current limiters. The c ncept design is
made t c nstruct ptimized A.C. netw rks in the building aut mati n and in the lighting sect r. Tripping the installed
circuit breaker will be effectively prevented. The inrush limiting time is adjusted t the values f a typical LED switch
m de p wer supply r LED-driver. The c nnectable l ad capacity is such as high, that even in the extremes cases it is
rather imp ssible t exceed it in a 16A netw rk. Installed c ntact rs will be relieved and their lifetimes will c nsiderable
increase. T pr tect the installed relay in a c ntr lled DALI-/DMX-Multiplexer we advise t use the ESB101.23 f r a 16A
relay r the ESB101.16 f r a smaller relay. N te that the ESB101 is n t designed t perate t gether with gas inducti n
lamps r ther c nventi nal lighting device. The ESB101 is designed f r capacitive l ads, nly.
Design-In f the ESB101 int A/C netw rks
The ESB101 m dels are the precise inrush current limiter with an verall t lerance f ±6% f the face value. F r the
dimensi n f an upstream c nnected circuit breaker the R.M.S is the key value f the inrush current, n t the peak
current. The thermal trigger p int will n t be met, even while using an extreme fast CB. All-d minant is the magnetic
trigger current. By using the empirical f rmula I

in mind that all the higher the inrush current is, all the faster the input capacit r f several c nnected switch m de
p wer supplies will be l aded. Deduced by this fact we can say that within a 230V 16A A/C netw rk n t the ESB101.16
limiter is the right selecti n f r a MCB B16A, but the ESB101.LED.230VAC. The technical table n page 2 sh ws the

Antes de trabalhos de instalação, manutenção ou modificação, desligue a tensão de alimentação, protegendo-a contra uma nova ligação involuntária.
- Não efectue nenhuma modificação ou tentativa de reparação no aparelho. Quando necessário contacte o seu distribuidor. Não abra o aparelho.
- Proteger a fonte de alimentação contra a introdução inadvertida de corpos metálicos, como por ex., clipes ou outras peças de metal.
- Não usar o aparelho em ambientes húmidos. Não usar o aparelho em ambientes propensos a condensações.
- Não tocar enquanto estiver em funcionamento, nem após a desligar. A superficie poderá estar quente e provocar lesões.
