I. Overview and Purpose
A. Overview
The BLM300C Professional Booklet Maker is a non Canon finishing solution
developed by Smart Dedicated Design (SDD) Production B.V. This accessory
offers an in-line finishing solution for the Canon imagePRESS
C7011VP/C7010VP Series devices, imagePRESS C7011VPS/C7010VPS
Series devices and varioPRINT 135/120/110 Series devices with the High
Capacity Stacker-F1 attached.
The solution allows the Canon imagePRESS and varioPRINT production
printers to create a full bleed printing and booklet making solution for a wide
range of on-demand applications.
The BLM300C Professional Booklet Maker is the core device of a modular
online finishing system. Available options that enhance the BLM 300
Professional Booklet Maker system include the:

B. Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide the servicing dealer with the tools
necessary to enable a successful integration of Canon imagePRESS and
varioPRINT digital print devices with the SDD BLM300C Professional Booklet
Maker and available options. This integration expands the market potential for
the Canon imagePRESS devices. This document has been created to assist
servicing dealers to realize that potential.
Training and support for the SDD BLM300C Professional Booklet Maker and
available options described in this guide are available from Canon U.S.A., Inc.’s
(hereinafter referred to as (“Canon USA”)).

II. Features
A. The BLM300C Professional Booklet Maker
Connects to the High Capacity Stacker-F1
Supports sheet sizes ranging from 5.5” x 9.76” (140 mm x 248 mm) to 12.6”
x 18.5” (320 mm x 470 mm)
Operation adjustment settings are achieved via the Booklet Maker User
Interface (UI)
Includes a two position stapler that can staple up to 30 sheets (80 g/m2, 120
pages booklet) (or 6 mm thickness whichever is less). Stapling can be
adjusted relative to the fold for a neat look
B. Optional Modules
1. The Front Trimmer
Prevents an effect called creeping during the paper fold process
Provide a neat finish to booklets up to 25 sheets (80 g/m2, 100 pages
booklet) (or 5 mm thickness whichever is less)
2. The 2-Knife Trimmer
This module is used in conjunction with the Front Trimmer to achieve 3-
side trimming
Cuts the top and bottom edges of a booklet to provide a neat finish to
booklets up to 25 sheets (80 g/m2, 100 pages booklet) (or 5 mm
thickness whichever is less)
Trim up to 1.38” (35 mm) from the top and bottom of the booklet (up to
2.76” (70 mm) total)
Trim the top and bottom individually (set at different heights) or
asymmetrically based on the desired height of the booklet
3. Square Fold
Provides a professional square back finishing look to booklets similar to
a bound book
Adds a square back to booklets up to 30 sheets (80 g/m2, 120 pages
booklet) (or 6 mm thickness whichever is less)
The square-fold finish allows for printing on the spine, further increasing
the booklet’s value to the customer
4. Rotator Transport
Required when producing smaller booklet sizes of A5 paper or 5.5" x
8.5"
This module rotates A4, Letter or SRA4 paper 90º from the Long Edge
Feed to the Short Edge Feed ensuring that the printer runs at maximum
productivity

two (2) technicians who have successfully completed and received certification on

V. Educational Training
A. Training Program Overview
The BLM300C & Square Fold Booklet Solutions (SDD Square Fold Booklet-
Maker and SDD Square Fold Booklet-Maker with Two-Knife Trimmer) training
program consists of two learning paths, based on current training level of the
service technicians (see Figures 1 and 2 below).
The “Update” learning path is specifically for service technicians who are
already certified on the BLM200/6300 Booklet Maker System, and enables
technicians to identify the new features of the BLM300C Booklet Maker system.
The “Blended” training courses provide technicians with the knowledge
required for installing, configuring, servicing, and maintaining the BLM300C
Booklet Maker System and optional modules in the field.
The blended training program will certify the technicians on the BLM300C as
well as the SDD Square Fold Booklet-Maker and the SDD Square Fold
Booklet-Maker with Two-Knife Trimmer.
The training for the BLM300C & Square Fold Booklet Solutions is a fee based
course. To order from Canon Network Access (CNA) use item code 2115V542.
The course fee is $990.00.

Training program and passing of the final assessment exam are required to sell
this product.

Technician certification is required for authorization to sell these products and
to receive support.
D. Who Should Attend
It is highly recommended that any technician responsible for installing,
servicing, or supporting the BLM300C Booklet-Maker and/or Optional Modules.
Note: Our current support policy dictates that only those technicians who have
completed the training program and pass the final assessment exam are
entitled to live, phone-based support through our TSC (Technical Support
Center). However, self-service support (software downloads, knowledgebase
articles, support forums, technical publications) is available through our
e-Support Center Web Site for all technicians. (Refer to the Technical Support
section on the e-Support Center Web Site for entitlement details.)
E. Training Facilities
1. Online Course Training Facilities
The online courses are located within the eLearning center on Canon USA’s
e-Support Center Web Site. The eLearning center includes Certification
maps that provide easy access to the training. The online courses can be
conducted at any dealer facility that is suitable for online student learning.

A. Power and Plug Requirements
Canon USA strongly suggests dedicated and properly grounded outlets be
provided for the BLM300C Booklet Maker
The BLM300C Booklet Maker and Rotator module each require a dedicated
NEMA 5-15 receptacle for proper operation

IMPORTANT
We recommend an additional standard 120 V/15 A outlet for service tools,
such as a laptop computer or vacuum that may be used when servicing or
configuring the machine.
Use only dedicated and properly grounded outlets for the BLM300C Booklet
Maker and optional modules. It is also strongly suggested to use dedicated
and properly grounded outlets for each optional accessory. Do not use
extension cords. The ground connection serves to provide the internal
electronics with a reference voltage. Faulty or poor ground sources will
cause this reference voltage to fall into a range that no longer serves as a
reliable reference voltage. A qualified electrician can measure and provide
the ground source that the BLM300C Booklet Maker and optional modules
or any computer controlled office equipment requires.
Before installation, confirm that all necessary receptacles are available.

the imagePRESS digital press and device installation space when configured
with the High Capacity Stacker-F1.
IMPORTANT
Installation Space includes 0.2” (5 mm) space between the components
Provide at least 19 3/4” (500 mm) on the side of the machine for
unrestricted operation, including the opening of accessory doors.
The space behind the machine to the wall and in front of the machine must
be the same as the main unit for unrestricted operation, including the
opening of the main unit and accessory doors.
The machine should not be moved once it is in place.
The floor must be level (with no bows) and flat for the stabilization and
support of the machine.
Do not place anything around the machine. Especially, do not place
anything around the breaker, as doing so may prevent access to the
breaker in an emergency, possibly resulting in personal injury.

only with a minimum of two (2) experienced technicians on the Square Fold

E. Firmware Update
1. Computer Requirements for Upgrading
The same recommended Desktop PC or laptop specifications3to download
firmware to the imagePRESS digital Press with the addition of the following
components:
RS-232C (serial crossover cable)
USB to Serial Converter
2. Update Process
The Firmware update process requires that a Software Download Cable is
connected from a PC to specific Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) located on
the Booklet Maker, Trimmer and Square Fold . Each PCB has a specific
executable file that would need to be run to update the firmware.
The firmware update process for the Rotator requires that a Programming
Logic Cable is connected from a PC to the Programmable Logic Controller
of the Rotator. a specific executable file would need to be run to update the
Rotator firmware.
