DIGITAL VIDEO CAMCORDER

Dedicated to a design that is both full-featured …
DV Format
Mini DV is the new preferred format for
personal and broadcast-quality video,
highly regarded for its high audio and image quality. With up to
540 lines of horizontal resolution and minimum color noise, Mini
DV delivers a 20% clearer picture than analog camcorder
formats. All this, in a handy, super-compact cassette.
High Resolution
Megapixel CCD
The OPTURA200 MC features a 1/4
inch megapixel CCD. A sharp,
megapixel compatible lens and
optical image stabilization create high resolution still
images. A still image is recorded on a memory card at
an image size of 1280 x 960 pixels.
10x 200x Digital
10x Optical Zoom Lens
(40-200x Digital Zoom*)
What sets a Canon camcorder apart from all the others? It’s the
only camcorder made by a company renowned for high-quality
professional optics. Our vast expertise in designing and crafting
precision lenses for 35mm and broadcast TV cameras also goes
into every camcorder lens we make. The OPTURA200 MC ’s 10x
optical zoom lens delivers superb definition and contrast, taking
full advantage of the DV format. The digital zoom extends the
camcorder’s magnification from 40 to an incredible 200x,
revealing details too small to see with the naked eye.
* Up to 40x when using a memory card
Optical Image Stabilizer
Canon utilizes the finest method of image stabilization available:
optical. While other manufacturers use an electronic or digital
image stabilization system, Canon's lens design includes a
dedicated optical element that preserves image quality so your
videos always look smooth, steady and natural...whether
shooting hand-held at full telephoto or from a moving vehicle. The
optical method is also the perfect complement to the
outstanding image quality of DV and offers superior
shake reduction when light levels are low and while
zooming.

Part Camcorder, Part Camera, Part of Your Life…The new OPTURA200MC from
Canon is brilliantly designed and exceptionally equipped with features that cater
to even the most discerning videomaker or digital photographer.

IEEE 1394 DV Terminal
An IEEE 1394-compliant DV terminal lets you connect
the OPTURA200 MC to a DV-compatible computer or
another Canon DV camcorder. Transfer your digital
movies to your computer’s hard disk,
edit your scenes, then use them to
create high-impact Web sites, video
e-mail, interactive CDs and DVDs, or
a personal video album.
SD Memory Card and MultiMediaCard
The OPTURA200 MC expands video possibilities with a built-in
slot for an SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card or a MultiMediaCard,
in addition to a Mini DV cassette. These memory cards can
record, store and manage still images and small video clips.
Easily transfer still images and movie
clips to your PC directly from the
camcorder using USB and IEEE 1394.
Copy still images from videocassette
to memory card, and vice versa.
Produce effects not possible with just
a cassette using the Card Mix Effects.
Choose one of the sample images
provided on the supplied SD Memory
Card (such as picture frames,
backgrounds and animations) and
combine it with the live video
recording.
Flexible LCD View Screen
and Color Viewfinder
The OPTURA200 MC ’s bright 2.5”
LCD view screen that makes it
easy to compose
sensational shots without
having to squint into the
viewfinder. You can rotate
the screen for high-or low-
angle shots, or turn it
around 180°to record
yourself. When you’re
done shooting, the
screen is perfect for
reviewing your scenes.

Program Auto Exposure
While the OPTURA200 MC ’s Easy Recording mode is fine for
most shooting situations, the camcorder also
includes eight additional pre-programmed
auto exposure modes (Auto, Sports, Portrait,
Spotlight, Sand & Snow, Low
Light, Night and Super Night)
each carefully designed to give
you the best possible image
results under special shooting
conditions.
Manual Controls
The fully-automatic OPTURA200 MC gives great results even in
the hands of a novice, while experts will appreciate the manual
focus, exposure, white balance and shutter speed controls.
Night Mode and Super Night Mode
Even when the light has faded, you can keep on shooting with
the OPTURA200 MC ’s Night and Super Night Mode. The
camcorder selects the optimal shutter speed based on the
brightness of the subject, allowing improved brightness and
color. In Super Night Mode, the Super Night LED lights up to
illuminate the subject. Now you can capture the
action without turning the lights on.
USB
Terminal
Allows high-speed transfer of photos and movie clips from your
SD Memory Card or MultiMediaCard to your computer. By using
the USB cable and software provided, you can process and
organize your images and video on your PC.
Included Software
The OPTURA200 MC Kit includes a suite of helpful software for
image management and editing: ZoomBrowser EX (Windows)
and ImageBrowser (Macintosh) which let you easily download,
browse, archive, and retouch your photos. Automatically resize
images and attach them to e-mail, arrange them for printing, and
add text. ArcSoft PhotoImpression lets you easily add special
effects, edit them, or use them to create attractive greeting cards
and calendars. ArcSoft VideoImpression provides a wide
selection of easy-to-use tools for editing and applying special
effects to movies, or attaching them to e-mail.
DV Messenger allows you to conduct an
Internet videoconference through IEEE1394
with Microsoft Windows Messenger. The OPTURA200 MC ’s
camera and VCR operations can also be controlled by the
software.

Built-in Flash
The built-in flash automatically rises up and fires according to the
brightness of the surrounding area.
Use to illuminate your subjects
when shooting still images of night
scenes, indoors or in other dark
places. There are 4 modes: Auto,
Red-eye reduction
Auto, Flash on, Flash

… and elegant in its simplicity.
Video Mode
The OPTURA200 MC utilizes high-precision optics, a premium
image stabilization system, and the latest processing technology
to deliver outstanding video in all situation.
Motion JPEG
The OPTURA200 MC lets you record short movie clips
in Motion JPEG format onto the inserted memory
card, for clear images and smooth playback. You may choose to
record up to 10 seconds at 320 X 240 pixels or up to 30 seconds
at 160 X 120 pixels.
Direct Print Choices
Connect your camcorder directly to a printer supporting the
direct print function – the Canon Card Photo Printers CP-100 and
CP-10 or the Canon Bubble Jet Printers S820D/S830D/S530D. A
single cable connects the printer to your OPTURA200 MC, and
you can perform trimming and other functions right from the
camcorder. Choose from a range of different paper sizes with
options for borderless or bordered prints.
Exif Print
The OPTURA200 MC supports Exif Print (2.2), the world-wide
standard for enhancing communication between camcorders
and printers. After connecting to an Exif Print-compliant printer,
Exif Print uses and optimizes the camcorder’s image data at the
moment of shooting, resulting in high quality printed photos.
Continuous Shooting Mode
The OPTURA200 MC features a continuous
shooting Mode, allowing you to capture a rapid
succession of photos. Shoot up to 30 images at
3 frames per second in VGA (640X480)
size or 10 images at 2 frames per second
in SXGA equivalent size (1280X960). This
function is linked with the flash, so
continuous shooting is possible even in
dark locations.
1.33 Megapixel* High Resolution Photos
The OPTURA200 MC features advanced image processing, for
capturing stunning, high-definition photos. They may be captured
at a variety of different image quality and compression sizes to
suit your needs. Capture up to 18 stunning 1.33 Megapixel*
(1280X960 pixels) photos onto the included 8MB SD Memory
Card. Photos may also be captured at 640X480 pixels in
standard, fine, or super-fine compression.
* Total pixels
Digital Photo Mode
For added flexibility, you may take up to 700 still images on a
Mini DV single tape (in SP Mode). The camcorder records the still
images for approximately 6 seconds, as well as recording the
sound for your verbal notes or narration. You can search through
the recorded tape for your photos using the supplied remote
control.

Digital Effects
The OPTURA200 MC features an impressive array of special
digital image effects to add to your video recordings, for variety
and impact at the touch of a button.

PCM Digital Sound
The OPTURA200 MC offers two digital audio modes,
12 and 16-bit. You can select 16-bit mode for high-quality, CD-
equivalent stereo sound, or 12-bit to record only two of four
channels, leaving the
remaining two channels free
for you to record additional
sound later.
AV Insert and Audio Dubbing
Use this function to insert new video scenes recorded
in SP mode from a VCR or another camcorder. If you’ve recorded
your audio track in 12-bit audio mode, you can also add stereo
sound from another audio source, or through the camcorder’s
internal microphone or an external microphone.
Analog Line-In/Converter
For instant editing, simply connect your TV, VCR or
analog camcorder to the OPTURA200 MC, it will
convert your analog video signal to digital, for direct
transfer to your computer via IEEE1394 cable.* If
you wish, you can first record the analog signal to
DV tape, allowing you to create a high quality
master of your original.
*The Analog to Digital Converter may not function depending on the software used.
Multi-Angle Hand Grip
The grip belt gives a more stable feel.
To eliminate often-awkward feel when
holding vertical video camcorder, it is
shaped in cylindrical form that gently
tucks around your hand for natural and
smooth operation.
StitchAssist
By using the OPTURA200 MC ’s StitchAssist Mode, you can
create magnificent panoramas. Just shoot your landscape from
all angles, and transfer them to your computer. Then simply
select and arrange your images in the correct order, and the
supplied PhotoStitch software does the rest, aligning,
overlapping and cropping the separate images to form one ultra-
wide panoramic still image.
My Camera Function
Personalize your camcorder by customizing the start-up image
and the sound it makes for start-up, shutter, self-timer and other
operations. Choose a start-up image from the
included software CD, or use your own digital
recordings.
