The Canon Video Flash Light VFL-2 can be attached to a
Canon camcorder and used
as avideo light or as an
external flash. The Video Flash Light is powered by the
camcorder's power supply.
Video light: Use to record
movies or still images. The video light can be turned
on
manually, or set to detect the surrounding brightness and
turn on/off automatically as necessary.
Flash: Use to record
still images. Automatic flash according to the brightness of
the subject, Red-eye reduction flash and other flash
modes are available depending
on the camcorder's
settings.
The video flash light can be used with the HF10/HF100
after you update the camcorder's firmware. Visit your local

ADVANCED SHOE
This accessory is designed for camcorders with a
mini advanced shoe.
•When recording aclose subject, the shadow of the
camcorder may appear
on the subject even if the video
light
is used.
•Available flash modes and flash operation vary depending
on the camcorder. Refer to the instruction manual of your
camcorder.
Handling Precautions
•Do not fire the flash if there is dust or foreign matters on the
light-emitting window of the flash. The heat generated may
damage the Video Flash Light.
•Do not carry the camcorder by the attached Video Flash
Light.
•
Do not apply excessive force to the bottom surface of the
Video Flash Light.
Danger
• Do not fire the flash at aperson who is driving.
•
Do not place flammable materials in close proximity to or
touching the lamp or the surrounding parts during or
immediately after use; they become very hot.
•
Do not disassemble or modify the Video Flash Light.
Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
•
Do not subject the Video Flash Light to strong impacts.
•Do not short-circuit by inserting metal objects into the
Video Flash Light or the shoe terminals.
• Do not store or use the Video Flash Light in places
exposed to smoke, soot, sand or dust. Avoid also humid
places. such as shower rooms.
•Keep the Video Flash Light out of the reach of children.
Caution
•Keep the cooling vents open and uncovered.
•Do not expose the front glass or lamp
to water when they
are hot. The glass may break and cause injuries.
•Always detach the Video Flash Light when storing the
camcorder in acase.
•Do not fire the flash close to someone's eyes. Keep a
distance of at least 1 m from the subject, especially when
shooting children.
•Do not fire the flash with your hand covering the flash and
do not touch the flash immediately after use.
•
Do not look directly at the lamp while the video light is on.

Video Light Mode (e )
The video light can be turned on/off using the switch on the
Video Flash Light.
[ON] The video light stays on.
[AUTO]: The video light turns on/off automatically according to
the surrounding brightness.
[OFF]: The video light stays off.
Mode torche video (e)
La torche video peut etre allumee/eteinte avec I'interrupteur

[ON] :la torche video reste allumee.
[AUTO] :la torche video s'allume/s'eteint automatiquement

1 Turn off the camcorder.
2 Set the Video Flash Light's POWER switch to [OFF].
3 Wait until the Video Flash Light has cooled down and turn the shoe
lock in the opposite direction from the LOCK arrow.
4 Remove the Video Flash Light.
Wait until the Video Flash Light has cooled down before you store it
in its pouch.
Maintenance
•Make sure that the Video Flash Light has cooled down before
cleaning
it.
•Wipe the Video Flash Light clean with asoft, dry cloth. Do not use
thinner, benzine, alcohol or other volatile solvents.
•Dirty terminals may cause apoor contact. Always keep the terminals
clean, and wipe them with asoft, dry cloth before use.
