2-1 Description for Displayed Error Message
This product displays error messages and main indications in cyclical blinkings style during the
standby without any document.
There are the following four messages. These error messages may be indicated simultaneously.
zPrinter error
zMemory RX
zMemory full
zNot played ICM （except for TAM mode）
The printer error indicates the only message. Four sorts of cyclical blinkings occur in maximum.

Memory RX
RECD IN MEMORY The memory RX exists. Erase the memory RX.
Memory full (FAX or
TAM)
MEMORY FULL The memory block does not exist.
The FAX transaction exceeds the
specifications.
The TAM tarnsaction exceeds the
specifications.
Erase the memory.
Not-played IMC existed
NEW MESSAGE Not-played IMC exists in the TAM
mode OFF condition.。
Play the not-played IMC.
Low ink level
RECOMEND NEW CRT The ink level is low.
Ink LED indication pattern:
ON: Ink low1
Blinking: Ink low2, No ink,
Ink volume unknown
Replace the FINE cartridge with new
one.

2-2-2 Printer Error
ERROR CONDITIONS SOLUTION
No paper.
LOAD PAPER Any paper is not set. Press [ Stop] key. The error message
resolves.
- Automatic printout: The printout restarts
when resolving this error.
- Manual printout: The printout does not
restart when resolving this error.
Paper jam
CLEAR PAPER JAM The paper jam occurs. Remove the jammed paper. Set new paper
in the multi-purpose tray. Press [ Stop]
key.
The printout does not restart.
No Ink.
NO INK The FINE cartridge runs out of
ink.
Replace the FINE cartridge with new one.
Press and hold [ Stop] key for 5 seconds
when refilling the ink.
The ink level detection does not perform.
The ink LED continues turning ON
regardless of resolving this error.
Ink volume unknown
INK VOL UNKNOWN The ink level is unknown.
This message is indicated if the
installed FINE cartridge ID is
improper.
Replace the FINE Cartridge with new one.
Press and hold [ Stop] key for 5 seconds
when refilling the ink.
The ink level detection does not perform.
The ink LED continues turning ON
regardless of resolving this error.
FINE cartridge not
installed
PUT IN CARTRIDGE Any FINE cartridge is not
recognized when starting printout
or suction.
Install a FINE cartridge.
Waste ink soon runout
INK ABS NEAL FUL The waste ink level exceeds the
specified 95% when starting the
soft-ON/OFF or suction.
Press [ Stop] key.
Cartridge error
CHECK INK The FINE cartridge is not
supported.
Install a CANON recommended FINE
cartridge.
The FINE cartridge is installed
improperly.
Reinstall the FINE cartridge again.
DS ON
REMOVE DOCUMENT A document is inserted during
the printout except for the
maintenance.
Remove the document. Press [ Stop] key.

ADF document may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper. Press [ Stop]
key. Press and hold [ Start] key to feed

Set a binder-holed document or a thin
document to the document cover (HA1-
5687).
Document too long
DOC. TOO LONG ADF document is approx. 40 cm
or more.
The paper feed (approx. 60 cm
or more) starts after detecting
this error. This error changes to
the paper jam error if the
document still remains.

Stop cancellation
TX/RX CANCELLED During TX (sending): The memory
transmission reservation is cancelled.
During RX (receiving): The memory-
receiving image data is cleared.
Document jam
CHECK DOCUMENT The document jam occurs.
Too long document
DOC. TOO LONG The document is longer than 400 mm.
No answer
NO ANSWER The other party does not transmit DIS.
Redial time-over
BUSY/NO SIGNAL The redial becomes time-over, but DT
is not detected.
The other party without
paper
NO RX PAPER The other party does not set any
paper.
No paper
LOAD PAPER Any paper is not set. The printout is
not executed while receiving the FAX
simultaneously.
No telephone number.
NO TEL # The one-touch speed dialing button or
coded speed dialing code you entered
has not been registered.
Register the one-touch speed dialing
button or coded speed dialing code.
Memory full
MEMORY FULL The fax’s memory is full because it
has received too many documents, or
a very long or detailed document.
Print any documents stored in
memory. Then start again.
The fax’s memory is full because you
either tried to send or copy too many
pages at once, or you tried to send or
copy a very long or detailed ocument,
using memory sending.
Delete any unnecessary data. Change
the scanning resolution. Attempt the
copying again.
Error other than above
TRY AGAIN An error other than the above occurs.

2-3 Not Displayed Error
Check the following items according to the symptom. Replace an applicable unit with new one if
the symptom is not resolved.
2-3-1 Defect
*: Check the waste ink level before replacing the Main Board ass'y. Register the ink level to new Main
Board ass'y.
Replace the lithium battery installed in the Main Board ass'y with new one.
Refer to Part:1-4-2 Precautions for Main Board ass'y Replacement and Repair.
SYMPTOM CONFIRM SOLUTION (POSSIBLE DEFECT

The power does not turn
ON.
The power turns OFF
immediately after turning
the power ON.
- Check the connection between the
power code and the machine
- Check the connection between the
Main Board ass'y and the power supply
unit.

(e.g., purge unit, carriage unit and paper
feeding mechanism).
