1. ENERAL INFORMATION
Thank you for your purcha e of CEL-MAR Company product. Thi product ha been completely te ted and i covered by a two year
warranty on part and operation from date of ale.

1.1. WARRANTED INFORMATION
The ADA-I9140 converter i covered by a two year warranty from date of ale. In ca e of being damaged it will be repair or the
damaged component will be replace. The warranty doe not cover damage cau ed from improper u e, material con umption or any
unauthorized change . If the product doe not function (i damaged), or not operate in accordance with the in truction , will be
repaired.
All warranty and no warranty repair mu t be returned with paid tran port and in uring to the CEL-MAR Company.
CEL-MAR Company under no circum tance won't be re pon ible for en uing damage from improper u ing the product or a a re ult
of random cau e : the lightning di charge, the flood, the fire and the like.
CEL-MAR Company i not be held re pon ible for damage and lo including: lo of profit , lo of data, pecuniary lo e en uing
from u ing or the impo ibility of u ing thi product.
In pecific ca e CEL-MAR Company di continue all warrantie and in particular do not follow the u er manual and do not accept
term of warranty by the u er.
1.2. ENERAL CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USE
The device hould be in talled in a afe and table place (eg, electroin tallation cabinet), the powering cable hould be arranged o
a not to be expo ed to trampling, attaching, or pulling out of the circuit.
Do not put device on the wet urface.
Do not connect device for nonde cript powering ource ,
Do not damage or cru h powering wire .
Do not make connection with wet hand .
Do not adapt, open or make hole in ca ing of the device!
Do not immer e device in water or no other liquid.
Do not put the fire opened on device ource : candle , an oil lamp and the like.
Complete di able from the upply network i only after di connecting the power upply circuit voltage.
Do not carry out the a embly or di a embly of the device if it i enabled. Thi may re ult to hort circuit and damage the device.
The device can not be u ed for application that determine human life and health (eg. Medical).

2.2. DESCRIPTION
ADA-I9140 convert USB to RS-485/RS-422 tandard without interference of data format and it i automatically detected by PC
y tem (Window / Linux/ MAC OS) after connecting to USB ocked (Plug&Play device). Converter tran mit RX,TX signals and two
additional RTS, CTS or DTR, DSR set by SW2 microswitch.
For communication with other device ADA-I9140 u e data tran mi ion line like:
●RX+,RX-,TX+/DATA+,TX-/DATA- (RS-485/422),
●CTS+/DSR+,CTS-/DSR-,RTS+/DTR+,RTS-/DTR- (RS-422)
There i al o the po ibilitie of looping the DTR with DSR signal or RTS with CTS signals.
Thi converter doe n't required external power upply (it i powered from USB bu ) and it u e a ynchronou baud rate up to 921,3
kbp (driver for STANDARD baud rate) / 1500000 bp (driver for PROFIBUS baud rate). The converter ha implemented
overvoltage protection RS485/RS422 interface, 2,7kV= optoi olation in ignal channel between USB and RS-485/422 interface and
1kV= or 3kV= galvanic i olation. USB cable with A-type plug enable imple connection to a computer and on other ide imple
connection the RS485/422 Bu provide plug-in crew terminal block.
Together with the ADA-I9140 we provide the driver , which after in tallation, create in operating y tem additional COM port on the
next free number e.g. COM3. It can be u e a tandard COM port but it i n't hardware port but virtual, create in Window y tem. Thi
i the rea on why ome application running in DOS and u e thi port, can operate improperly.

4. INSTALLATION
Thi chapter will how how to connect ADA-I9140 to RS-485/RS-422 bu .
To reduce di turbance from environment, it i recommended to:
– u e multipair type hielded cable , which hield can be connected to the earthing on one end of the cable,
– lay ignal cable at a di tance of not le than 25 cm away from power cable ,
The GND and 100R terminal are u ed for connection of RS485/RS422 the ground to compen ate the ground potential of device
operating on RS485/RS422 bu . Thi connection hould be done individually for each y tem if tandard wiring of RS485/RS422 bu
not provide correct tran mi ion.
4.1. CONNECTION TO RS485/RS422 BUS
RS485/RS422 interface of ADA-I9140 converter i available on crew terminal block de cribed a : Tx+/DATA+, Tx-/DATA-, Rx+, Rx-,
RTS+/DTR+, RTS-/DTR-.
ADA-I9140 can operate on RS422 bu or RS485 bu - both bu e need uitable wiring.
4.1.1. CONNECTION TO RS422 OR RS485 (4-WIRE) BUS
Example of connection ADA-I9140 to RS422 4-wire bu or RS485(4W) in point-to-point and multi-point topology are hown below.

4.1.2. CONNECTION TO RS485 2 WIRE BUS

4.2. LINE TERMINATION
The application of Line Termination (terminator) Rt = 120 ohm will reduce electrical reflection in data line at high baud rate. It i not
needed below 9600Bd. The Line Termination re i tor hould be u ed if the di tance i over 1000m @ 9600Bd or 700m @ 19200Bd
tran mi ion, the re i tor can be nece ary if there are problem with the tran mi ion correctne . The terminator /re i tor are
connected to RS485/RS422 bu by the u e of SW1 dip witch. Example connection of Rt are hown on d Fig. 2, 3, 4, 5. Re i tor Rt =
120 W .

4.3. CONNECTION TO USB COMPUTER PORT
ADA-I9140 connection to computer hould be done by u e USB cable with A type connector.
4.4. POWER SUPPLY
The converter i powered from USB port of PC. After connection to USB port, the green LED PWR hould be light. If doe n't check:
- the computer i running,
- the connection of converter cable to the computer,
- hibernation mode of computer
5. DRIVERS INSTALLATION IN SYSTEM WINDOWS
ADA-I9140 i delivered with the driver package In taller for Window y tem on CD-ROM.
For in tallation follow the tep below:
a/ in ert the CD-ROM to optical driver of the computer,
b/ the in tallation wizard will run automatically, if not double click ADAUSBDRV exe.
c/ following the tep of in tallation wizard, will be in talled the Driver and Unin taller for the Window y tem 98, ME, 2000, XP,
2003, Vi ta, Win7, 2008,
d/ connect the convert to USB port of computer and follow the tep of in tallation wizard.
5.1. EXAMPLE OF DRIVER INSTALLATION IN WINDOWS 7 SYSTEM
ADA-I9140 i delivered with the driver for Window y tem 98/ME/2000/XP/Vi ta/7/2008 and the baud rate :
a/ Standard

Driver in tallation have to be done from the account with Admini trator permi ion . For the driver in tallation follow the tep bellow:
a/ in ert the CD-ROM to optical driver of computer,
b/ the in tallation wizard will run automatically, if not double click ADAUSBDRV exe form the CD-ROM.
After running the in taller, the wizard in tallation window will appear.

The driver for ADA-I9140 have been in talled. Thi can be checked in “Unin tall or change a program“.
Now connect ADA-I9140 to computer port.
After connection will appear the Tool tip with [Your device i ready to u e]. To ee the detail pre the Tooltip, and will appear
information window where i hown which COM port wa a igned to converter.

After thi in tallation, RS485/422 port of ADA-I9140 converter i available in the y tem a normal COM port. It hould be
remembered about pecified baud rate for communication.
If during in tallation wa elected driver for Standard baud rate , it i po ible to u e:
300 bp , 600 bp , 1200 bp , 2400 bp , 4800 bp , 9600 bp , 19200 bp , 38400 bp , 57600 bp , 115200 bp , 230400 bp ,
460800 bp , 921600 bp .
If during in tallation wa elected driver for Profibu baud rate , it i po ible to u e:
300 bp , 600 bp , 1200 bp , 2400 bp , 4800 bp , 9600 bp ,19200 bp , 93750 bp ( if elect 230400 bp ),
187500 bp (if elect 460800bp ), 500000 bp ( if elect 921600 bp ), 1500000 bp (if elect 14400 bp ).
6. DRIVER UNINSTALLATION
6.1. DRIVER UNINSTALLATION IN WINDOWS 98/ME SYSTEMS
In thi y tem driver unin tallation have to be done according follow tep :
a/ di connect converter from computer,
b/ elect menu Start > Setting > Control Panel > Add > Remove Programs,
c/ elect from the li t “ADA USB Serial Converter Driver” and pre [Change / Remove],
e/ reboot the computer.
6.2. DRIVER UNINSTALLATION IN WINDOWS 2000/XP/2003/VISTA/7/2008 SYSTEMS
In thi y tem driver unin tallation have to be done according follow tep :
a/ di connect converter from computer,
b/ login a the Administrator,
c/ elect menu Start > Setting > Control Panel > Add > Remove Programs,
d/ elect from the li t Windows Driver Package – CEL-MAR ADA – Virtual USB Serial Port,
e/ pre [Change / Remove], Virtual USB Serial Port driver will be unin talled,
f/ elect from the li t Windows Driver Package – CEL-MAR ADA – USB Serial Converter,
g/ pre [Change / Remove], driver converter of USB Bu will be unin talled,
h/ after unin tallation reboot the computer.
6.2.1. EXAMPLE DRIVER UNINSTALLATION IN WINDOWS 7 SYSTEMS
Window 7 y tem driver unin tallation have to be done according follow tep :
a/ di connect converter from computer,
b/ login the Administrator account ,
c/ elect menu Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall,
d/ elect from Windows Driver Package – CEL-MAR ADA – Virtual USB Serial Port,
e/ pre [Uninstall/Change], Virtual USB Serial Port driver will be unin talled

f/ elect from the li t Windows Driver Package – CEL-MAR ADA – USB Serial Converter
g/ pre [Uninstall/Change], driver converter of USB Bu will be unin talled,
h/ after unin tallation reboot the computer.
6.3. EMER ENCY DRIVER UNINSTALLATION
If there are problem with correct operation of driver or converter and or on the computer wa in talled driver other device thi type,
it i po ible to u e the pecial oftware form delivered CD-ROM to clean the y tem form file and entrie in the y tem regi try. Thi
can be done after unin tallation de cried in point 6.1 and 6.2.
6.3.1. EMER ENCY DRIVER UNINSTALLATION IN WINDOWS 98/ME/2000
Emergency driver unin tallation in Window 98/ME/2000 y tem have to be done according follow tep :
a/ di connect converter from computer,
b/ from CD-ROM delivered with converter, copy to hard di k the folder Windows\Win-98ME_1 09 06\FTClean for Window 98/ME or
Windows\Win-2000\FTClean for Window 2000,
c/ from FTClean folder run the application FTClean exe and follow the Tooltip,
d/ after fini hing, reboot the computer.
6.3.2. EMER ENCY DRIVER UNINSTALLATION IN WINDOWS XP/2003/Vista/7/2008
Emergency driver unin tallation in Window XP/2003/Vi ta/7/2008 y tem have to be done according follow tep :
a/ di connect converter from computer,
b/ login the Administrator account,
c/ from CD-ROM delivered with converter, copy to hard di k the folder Windows\Win-XP-2003-Vista-7-2008_2 06\ CDMUninstaller,
d/ from CDMUnin taller folder run the application uninstall bat,
e/ after fini hing, reboot the computer.

7. USIN
After proper connection according to ection above the converter can be u ed. If connection of USB cable wa made property green
LED PWR on front panel of converter hould light. If doe n't, check the connection of converter to the computer or computer i ON
and or it i n't in hibernation mode.
