1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1. WARRANTED INFORMATION
ADA-1040PC9 converter i covered by a two year warranty from date of ale. In ca e of being damaged it will be repair or the
damaged component will be replace. The warranty doe not cover damage cau ed from improper u e, material con umption or any
unauthorized change . If the product doe not function (i damaged), or not operate in accordance with the in truction , will be
repaired or replaced.
All warranty and no warranty repair mu t be returned with paid tran port and in uring to the CEL-MAR Company.
CEL-MAR Company under no circum tance won't be re pon ible for en uing damage from improper u ing the product or a a re ult
of random cau e : the lightning di charge, the flood, the fire and the like.

The device hould be in talled in a afe and table place (eg, electroin tallation cabinet), the powering cable hould be arranged o
a not to be expo ed to trampling, attaching, or pulling out of the circuit.

2.2. DESCRIPTION
Protocol converter Kyma* KDU-110 to MODBUS-RTU ADA-1040PC9 i a device olve a problem of connection Kyma Shaft Power
Meter KDU-110 device, equipped with RS232 interface and communicate by KDU-110 protocol to multipoint RS-485 bu with device
communicate by MODBUS-ASCII protocol. Simultaneou ly, the converter convert RS232 to RS485/422 tandard , with etting of data
format. Depending on configuration , can be et baud rate, data bit , parity, number of top bit . The etting can be different for
RS232 and RS485/RS422 port. The converter doe not require power upply from RS232 port and upport the a ynchronou
tran mi ion data with baud rate 230,4 kbp .
ADA-1040PC9 ha DB-9F connector for connection RS232 interface of Kyma* KDU-110 and crew terminal block for connection of
RS485/422 network and power upply. The DB-9F connector i DCE type to connecting RS232 interface. ADA-1040PC9 u e Tx, Rx
and GND for communication with RS232 interface.

3. INSTALLATION
Thi chapter will how how to u e and connect ADA-1040PC9 to KDU-110 device, RS485/RS422 network and power upply.
In the purpo e of minimization of di ruption from environment i being recommended to:
- apply multipair type hielded cable , which hield can be connected to the earthing on one end of the cable,
- arrange ignal cable in the di tance not horter than 25 cm from powering cable .
- apply cable of adequate cro - ection due to voltage drop for converter powering,
- u e uppre ion filter for powering converter that are in talled within a ingle object.
- not upply converter from power circuit device that generate large impul e interference uch a tran mitter , contactor .
3.1. ASSEMBLING
The cover of ADA-1040PC9 converter i adapted to a embly on TS-35 (DIN35) rail. To in tall the converter, hould be mounted on
the rail upper part of the cover, then pre bottom part to hear characteri tic „Click” ound.
3.2. CONNECTION TO COMPUTER

In ca e of connection ADA-1040PC9 converter to:
- RS232 computer port, hould be made a cable according to diagram on Fig.4,
or
- USB computer port, hould be u ed additional converter USB to RS232 (ADA-I9111 or ADA-I9110), which connect to RS232 port of
ADA-1040PC3 a on diagram Fig.5.

3.3. CONNECTION TO KDU-110 DEVICE
In ca e of connection ADA-1040PC9 converter to communication port RS232 of KDU-110 device, hould be made a cable according
to diagram on fig. bellow.

3.4. CONNECTION TO RS485 BUS
RS485/RS422 interface in ADA-1040PC9 converter i available on crew terminal block and i de cribed a :
Tx+/A, Tx-/B, Rx+, Rx-, GND.
Connection of ADA-1040PC9 to RS485(4W) and RS485(2W) network are hown bellow.

3.4.3. GND TERMINAL CONNECTION
Connection of GND terminal of RS485/422 interface , device connected to RS485/422 bu , hould be done in the ca e of a
potential difference of the ignal ground on interface RS485 / RS422, which prevent proper data tran mi ion.
Cannot onne t to the GND terminal - ables s reens, PE ir uit of ele tri al installation, signals grounds of other devi es.
3.4.4. LINE TERMINATION Rt
The application of Line Termination (terminator) Rt = 120 ohm will reduce electrical reflection in data line at high baud rate. It i not
needed below 9600Bd. Should be u ed the Line Termination re i tor if the di tance i over 1000m @ 9600Bd or 700m @ 19200Bd,
and if the di turbance in tran mi ion will appear.
Example connection of Rt are hown on Fig. 5 & 6. Two Rt = 120 W , 5%, 0,25W are delivered with the converter .
3.5. POWER SUPPLY CONNECTION
To connect power upply to the converter, hould have DC power upplie (regulated) output voltage from 10 V= to 30V=, min.
nominal power 2W, e.g. HDR-15-24. Power cable from DC power upplie to device can not be longer than 3m.
Should connect po itive (+) end of DC power upplie to V+ device terminal and negative (-) end to V- on terminal block.
ADA-1040PC9 ha protection again t power upply rever e connection.
4. ACTIVATION
The converter can be power on after properly connection according to ection above.
If after connection power upply on front panel will not light green led PWR, check correctne of power upply connecting
(polarization). When data i pre ent the LED Tx and Rx hould blink.
ATTENTION!!
AT BAUD RATE ABOVE 38.4 KBPS THE LED'S TX, RX WILL LIGHT WEAKLY DURING DATA TRANSMISSION

4.2. TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Solutions
PWR LED i not light Check polarization and parameter of connected power upply.
Rx LED light continuou ly RS485(4W) /422 network. Wrong polarization on terminal : Rx+, Rx-; change polarization.
No tran mi ion
Tx LED i blinking RS485(4W) / RS422 network. Check correctne of connection to terminal Tx, Rx; according to point 3 and the converter configuration.
5. CONFIGURATION
5.1. OPERATION MODE
ADA-1040PC9 converter can operate in a few mode :

●factory default,
●emergency firmware update
Tho e mode can be et by u e SW1 located by DB-9F connector, labelled a RS232. To et the witch ection, hould remove the
cover marked a SW1 and make the appropriate etting by the u e a mall, flat crewdriver.
All available adju ting the SW1 witch are hown in table below.

5.2. CONFIGURATION BY USING ADACONFIG
The configuration of ADA-1040PC9 converter hould be made by the u e of ADAConfig Software - elling with converter.
To make the configuration, connect converter to computer and power upply. If after power, on the front panel i not lit green LED
PWR, check the power connection (polarity). If the PWR LED light , et the ection of SW1 witch to configuration mode a in table
below.

In the configuration mode the yellow LED located by SW1 micro- witch will blink with frequency 1 Hz. Start the ADAConfig Software
and make the configuration of tran mi ion parameter for each converter interface . Fir t hould be et the number of [COM port]
[1] for communication with the converter, then readout the configuration from ADA-1040PC9 memory, u ing the button [Read
onfiguration] [2] and make the proper change of each interface etting, a below.

5.3. FACTORY DEFAULT
In ca e of faulty functioning ADA-1040PC9, can be re tored the factory default etting of the converter internal regi ter .
Set SW1 micro witch mode a in the table below.

Dis onne t the power and after while onne t again the power. After that, will be loaded the factory default etting to the converter
internal regi ter .
After thi operation, the converter parameter hould be et again for operating in the application.
Set micro witch SW1 to run mode a hown in the table below.

The yellow LED (located near the SW1) will turn off in the RUN mode.
5.4. FIRMWARE UPDATE
Set SW1 micro witch to configuration mode a in table below.

In the configuration mode the yellow LED will blink with frequency 1Hz. Pre a button [Load New Firmware] [7] to change the
oftware delivered by manufacturer. The Select File window will open (fig. below) and elect the *.bin file then click [Open] – oftware
will be load to ADAConfig buffer torage and will be checked. If the ADAConfig not detect error in loaded file, change converter
oftware. Proce of updating i vi ualized by ADAConfig in u e Progre Window and after proper changing confirmed by correct
me age.

During loading oftware the yellow LED located be ide SW1 micro- witch will blink, howing data flow to the converter. If the oftware
wa loaded correctly yellow LED will be blink with frequency 1 Hz.
After that, et micro witch SW1 to run mode a hown in the table below.

5.5. EMERGENCY FIRMWARE UPDATE
In ca e of the un ucce ful update of the converter oftware, try again according to de cription in the above point. If the update i till
incorrect u e emergency firmware update. Set SW1 micro witch mode a in the table below.

After micro witch etting, hould be re tarted ADA-1040PC9, by turning OFF and then ON the power upply. The yellow LED will light
continuou ly and the converter will be in Emergency Firmware Update mode. Now follow the de cription in the above point.
After ucce ful oftware update, et micro witch SW1 to the run mode a hown in the table below.

6. DATA TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSTICS
To readout diagno tic , the SW1 micro witch hould be et to the configuration mode.

In the configuration mode the yellow LED will blink with frequency 1Hz..
Correctne of tran mi ion proceed on KDU-110(RS232) and RTU (RS485) interface can be checked by readout the error li t by
ADAConfig Software from the converter memory. Frame error counter will be increa ed, in ca e of: improper peed et compared to
real peed of data tran mi ion. Parity error counter will be count the error which can ari e in ca e of mi repre ent byte in
tran mitted ign. Thi counter will not work in ca e of di able control parity.
To check tho e counter pre the button [Read transmission errors], and to delete (zeroing of counter in the memory of the
converter) pre [Delete transmission errors]. In ca e of parity error or frame error , hould be checked the ADA-1040PC9
converter' configuration and correctne connection of RS485 bu to RTU and KDU-110 converter port .
After fini hing the diagno tic , the SW1 micro witch hould be et to the run mode a hown in the table below.

7. OPERATION
ADA-1040PC9 i bidirectional protocol converter of KDU-110 to MODBUS-RTU protocol , with possibility of onversion a baud
rate, a data format (number of data bits, parity bit, stop bits). Additionally, i a eparator of RS232 (KDU-110) port from RS485
MODBUS-RTU port.
If KDU-110 device will be connected to the RS232 port, to RS485 port hould be connected RS485 MODBUS-RTU bu .
Frame of MODBUS protocol having the error CRC are rejected by the converter.

8. IMPLEMENTATION OF MODBUS-RTU PROTOCOL
ADA-1040PC9 protocol converter allow connecting KDU-110 device a SLAVE to RS485 MODBUS-RTU bu . The length of RS485
bu can be extended (another 1200m) by the u e of ADA-4040 repeater or ADA-4044H HUB RS485.
