The Cochlear™ Kanso® 2 Sound Processor has a tap interface
for certain control functions.
The recipient can tap the processor when it is on or off the
implant.
To tap, the recipient needs to follow these guidelines:
• Tap on the Cochlear logo.
• Use quick, firm taps – don’t press.
Control Number of taps
Turn ON Double-tap – 2 taps
Turn OFF Triple-tap – 3 taps

Chargetheprocessor
The Kanso 2 Sound Processor has an internal battery that needs
regular charging. We recommend fully charging the processor on
receipt.
To recharge the processor’s internal battery recipeints can:
• place it in the Home Charger overnight for charging and
drying, or
• attach it to the Portable Charger which can be worn on the
body.
The Portable Charger must be activated before first use by
connecting it to a power source or it will not charge the
processor.

WARNING
To charge the Kanso 2 Sound Processor:
• Use Cochlear equipment only.
• Do not use non-Cochlear equipment.

Wearthesoundprocessor
For optimal hearing outcomes, it is important to show recipients
how to correctly place their processor on their implant.
Place the Kanso 2 Sound Processor on the implant with the:
• Cochlear logo, light and microphone ports facing up
• straight edge facing down.
CAUTION
Position the sound processor correctly to get optimal retention and best
performance. Refer to the Kanso 2 Sound Processor User Guide for details.
TIP
To reduce the risk of losing the sound processor, you can use a Kanso 2
Safety Line or Kanso 2 Headband. Refer to the Kanso 2 Sound Processor
User Guide for details.
Identificationforbilateralusers
You can use coloured stickers (red for right, blue for left) to
make identifying left and right processors easier.
CAUTION
If the recipient is a bilateral user, they must use the correct sound
processor for each implant.

No, the Kanso 2 Sound Processor does not support acoustic
hearing if your recipient has residual hearing.

Recipients can control and monitor their sound processor(s)
using an iPhone®or iPod touch®, or a compatible Android™
smartphone.
• Change volume, program, sensitivity, bass
and treble, and master volume limit.
• Stream audio from wireless accessories.
• Control bilateral processors together or
separately.
• Monitor processor status and receive
alerts.
Recipients/carers must know how to use
their iPhone, iPod touch or Android
smartphone.

1. Download the Nucleus Smart App from:
• the App Store®to the iPhone or iPod touch
• Google Play®to the Android smartphone.
2. Follow the instructions to pair your processor(s) to your
device, and set up the app:
• Nucleus Smart App User Guide for Kanso 2: (for iPhone/
iPod touch or Android)
• Kanso 2 Sound Processor Pairing Guide: (for iPhone/iPod
touch or Android).

Compatible hearing aids will appear in the fitting software’s
Linking Hearing Devices screen, and be selectable.

MadeforiPhone
The Kanso 2 Sound Processor is a Made for iPhone device and
can be linked with compatible Made for iPhone hearing aids.
This allows the recipient to use their iPhone or iPod touch to
control both devices and stream audio to both devices.
Android
The Kanso 2 Sound Processor is compatible with the ASHA
(Audio Streaming for Hearing Aid) protocol and can be linked
with Android devices that support ASHA. This allows recipients
with compatible Android devices to stream audio to both
hearing devices.
Bimodalsetupoverview
1. Program the hearing aid, if not already done.
2. Create a MAP for the Kanso 2 Sound Processor.
3. In Processor Configuration, click the Link button.
4. Connect the Airlink.
5. Discover the hearing aid from the list of available devices.
6. Beep the hearing aid to confirm it is the correct device.
7. Link the sound processor to the hearing aid.
8. Link the hearing aid to the sound processor by writing the
MAP to the processor.
9. Pair the hearing aid and the sound processor to the iOS or
Android device.

CochlearSofWear™pad
If the recipient feels pressure or discomfort from the processor,
you can attach a SoftWear pad to the back of the processor.
Programmingtips
A SoftWear pad increases the distance between the coil and
implant. Check the recipient’s program after you have attached
the SoftWear pad.
If the SoftWear pad and Headband are used together, you
may need to create an additional MAP.

Selectmagnetstrength
Magnet strength is key to effective retention of a Kanso 2 Sound
Processor.
If a magnet is:
• too weak, the processor may fall off the implant.
• too strong, the recipient could experience discomfort or skin
irritation.
Magnet selection can be affected by several competing factors:
• skin flap thickness
• use of a Cochlear SoftWear™ pad (for recipient comfort)
• use of retention aids (e.g. Kanso 2 Headband, Safety Line)
• thickness of the recipient’s hair.
WARNING
If you change to a stronger magnet, this may cause a sensation of
pressure or skin irritation. To relieve this, attach a SoftWear pad to the
processor.
NOTES
• If the implant magnet is reversed, use the Kanso 2 Magnet Reverse
Polarity (magnet strength is labelled with an ‘R’, e.g. ‘2R’).
• If your recipient has a Cochlear CI600 Series implant you must use the
appropriate magnet, ordered separately. These magnets are engraved
with ‘(I)’ next to the strength number, for example ‘2(I)’. If you use
the wrong magnet your recipient could experience intermittent sound
and decreased battery performance.
• Kanso 2 Magnets used with CI600 Series implants are available in
strengths ½(I) to 5(I).
SoundCheck
If you need to confirm whether the processor is receiving sound,
Sound Check is a Nucleus Smart App function that records
sound from the Kanso 2 Sound Processor and plays it back.
Sound Check records sound from the processor microphones.
The Sound Check app function is available on compatible smart
phones only. For details visit www.cochlear.com/compatibility.
NOTES
• Be aware of privacy – consider the content of the recording.
• Make sure you are in a quiet place away from microwave ovens, wireless
routers or other devices that could cause interference.
• Place the smart phone near the processor.
• 30 seconds is the maximum recording time.
• The quality of speakers on the smart phone and headphones will affect
the sound quality on playback.

Auto-turnotosavebatterylife
The Kanso 2 Sound Processor turns off automatically after being
off the implant for two minutes.
You can disable this setting in the fitting software. If you do this,
instruct the recipient to turn their processor off to maximise
battery life.

The Aqua+ should support your recipient’s normal programs.
However, if their hearing performance deteriorates, try these
solutions:
• Create custom MAPs that don’t use SCAN
• Use fixed directionality only (Standard or Zoom, with WNR
off).
ProgrammingwithKanso2Aqua+
For wireless programming, use the Cochlear Wireless
Programming Pod. The Wireless Programming Pod connects to a
compatible rechargeable battery module and a processing unit
to perform a sound fitting. Refer to the Wireless Programming
Pod User Guide.
For wired programming, use the Cochlear Kanso 2
Programming Adaptor Cable with the Cochlear Programming
Cable and Freedom™Programming Pod. Refer to the Freedom
Programming Pod User Guide.
WARNING
Programming Adaptor Cables can be a strangulation hazard. Keep out of
reach of children.
NOTE
Wired programming can only be carried out in clinical environments.
Wirelessandwiredprogramming EnablingForwardFocus
If you believe the recipient may benefit from bass and treble
control, you can enable it.
WARNING
Only enable bass and treble control for recipients who can provide reliable
feedback on sound quality. Give special consideration to young children,
older adults or difficult-to-test recipients.

ForwardFocus is a clinician enabled and user-controlled feature
designed to help recipients hear better in face-to-face
conversations by reducing distracting noise occuring behind the
recipient.
IMPORTANT
ForwardFocus should only be enabled for users 12 years and older who are
able to reliably provide feedback on sound quality and understand how to
use the feature when moving to different or changing environments. It
may be possible to have decreased speech understanding when using
ForwardFocus in a quiet environment.
Before enabling FowardFocus, you should ensure that recipients
can correctly identify quiet and noisy environments. Because
the algorithm for ForwardFocus assumes the sound signal of
interest is in front of the recipient, and the competing noise is to
the sides and/or behind the recipient, you should counsel
recipients to orient themselves so that distracting sounds are
behind them, and the sound they want to hear is in front of
them.
Advise caregivers of children on the importance of feedback
from the recipient to ensure the most appropriate program is
being used.
If you enable ForwardFocus for a recipient, they turn it on and
off using the Nucleus Smart App. ForwardFocus will be turned
off when the sound processor is turned off.
Advise the recipient to turn FowardFocus off when they move to
a different listening situation, for example, when moving from a
noisy café to a quiet room, or if they notice difficulty in
understanding speech in a quiet environment.
Clinicians should provide recipients with several listening
scenarios such as a noisy play ground, a noisy classroom, or
listening in a café, to ensure that the recipient understands how
to orient themselves in front of the noise to ensure maximum
benefit of the ForwardFocus feature.
