Unpacking & Pre-installation
CarefullyremovetheSuperVisorTL™andplaceitonaflatsurface,takingcarenottoscratchthelensesordamagethecablecomingoutof
theside.Examinetheunitfortransitdamage,brokenlamps,etc.Reportanydamagetothecarrierandkeeptheshippingcarton.
Standardlightbarsarebuilttooperateon12voltD.C.negativeground(earth)vehicles.Ifyouhaveanelectricalsystemotherthan12
voltD.C.negativeground(earth),andhavenotorderedaspeciallywiredlightbar,contactthefactoryforinstructions.
Testtheunitbeforeinstallation.Totest,touchtheblackwiretotheground(earth)andtheotherwiresto+12voltsD.C.,inaccordance
withtheinstructionsattachedtothecable(anautomotivebatteryispreferableforthistest).Someunitsmaybefactorywiredforcontrol
byanLEDflasherinwhichcasethecable'swiretagshouldbeconsulted.Abatterychargermaybeused,butpleasenotethatsome
electronicoptions(flashers,stingrays,etc.)maynotoperatenormallywhenpoweredbyabatterycharger.Ifproblemsoccuratthispoint,
contactthefactory.
Theuseofthisoranywarningdevicedoesnotensurethatalldriverscanorwillobserveorreacttoanemergency
warningsignal. Nevertaketheright-of-wayforgranted. Itisyourresponsibilitytobesureyoucanproceedsafely
beforeenteringanintersection,drivingagainsttraffic,respondingatahighrateofspeed, orwalkingonoraround
trafficlanes.
Theeffectivenessofthiswarningdeviceishighlydependentuponcorrectmountingandwiring. Readandfollow
themanufacturer’sinstructionsbeforeinstallingorusingthisdevice. Thevehicleoperatorshouldinsuredailythatall
featuresofthedeviceoperatecorrectly. Inuse,thevehicleoperatorshouldinsuretheprojectionofthewarning
signalisnotblockedbyvehiclecomponents(i.e.:opentrunksorcompartmentdoors),people,vehicles,orother
obstructions.
Thisequipmentisintendedforusebyauthorizedpersonnelonly. Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytounderstandand
obeyalllawsregardingemergencywarningdevices. Theusershouldcheckallapplicablecity,stateandfederal
lawsandregulations.
Code3,Inc.,assumesnoliabilityforanylossresultingfromtheuseofthiswarningdevice.
Properinstallationisvitaltotheperformanceofthiswarningdeviceandthesafeoperationoftheemergency
vehicle. Itisimportanttorecognizethattheoperatoroftheemergencyvehicleisunderpsychologicalandphysi-
ologicalstresscausedbytheemergencysituation. Thewarningdeviceshouldbeinstalledinsuchamannerasto:
A)Notreducetheoutputperformanceofthesystem, B) Placethecontrolswithinconvenientreachoftheoperator
sothathecanoperatethesystemwithoutlosingeyecontactwiththeroadway.
Emergencywarningdevicesoftenrequirehighelectricalvoltagesand/orcurrents.Properlyprotectandusecaution
aroundliveelectricalconnections. Groundingorshortingofelectricalconnectionscancausehighcurrentarcing,
whichcancausepersonalinjuryand/orseverevehicledamage,includingfire.
Anyelectronicdevicemaycreateorbeaffectedbyelectronmagneticinterference.Afterinstallationofanyelectronic
deviceoperateallequipmentsimultaneouslytoinsurethatoperationisfreeofinterference.Neverpoweremer-
gencywarningequipmentfromthesamecircuitorsharethesamegroundingcircuitwithradiocommunication
equipment.
PROPERINSTALLATIONCOMBINEDWITHOPERATORTRAININGINTHEPROPERUSEOFEMERGENCY
WARNINGDEVICESISESSENTIALTOINSURETHESAFETYOFEMERGENCYPERSONNELANDTHE
PUBLIC.
Alldevicesshouldbemountedinaccordancewiththemanufacturer'sinstructionsandsecurelyfastenedtovehicle
elementsofsufficientstrengthtowithstandtheforcesappliedtothedevice.Driverand/orpassengerairbags(SRS)
willaffectthewayequipmentshouldbemounted.Thisdeviceshouldbemountedbypermanentinstallationand
withinthezonesspecifiedbythevehiclemanufacturer,ifany.Anydevicemountedinthedeploymentareaofanair
bagwilldamageorreducetheeffectivenessoftheairbagandmaydamageordislodgethedevice.Installermust
besurethatthisdevice,itsmountinghardwareandelectircalsupplywiringdoesnotinterferewiththeairbagorthe
SRSwiringorsensors.Mountingtheunitinsidethevehiclebyamethodotherthanpermanentinstallationisnot
recommendedasunitmaybecomedislodgedduringswerving,suddenbrakingorcollision.Failuretofollow
instructionscanresultinpersonalinjury.

Introduction
TheSuperVisorTL™isaninteriorlightingsystemthatfitsinthevisorareanearthetopofthewindshield.Itdeliversanamazingwarning
signal.TheSuperVisorTLisdesignedonamodularbasis,whichmeansthatthelightbarcanbecustomizedtomeetmostany
requirement.TheSuperVisorTLhasroomforuptotenLEDlightheads.Eachlightheadisindividuallywiredforanyflashpatternor
combinationofflashpatternsrequired.

MountingHardware-Allmountinghardwareispackedinasmallboxinsidethemaincarton. Therearefourbracketsusedtomountthe
SuperVisorTL™tothevehicle. Thesearediscussedindetaillater.
Utilizingnon-factorysuppliedscrewsand/ormountingbracketsand/ortheimpropernumber
ofscrewsmayresultinlossofwarrantycoverageontheequipment.

Step 1-Removing Sun Visors
BegintheinstallationbyremovingtheCrownVictoria'sdriverandpassengersunvisors.Identifyeachvisorwithtapeorothermarking
toindicatethedriverfromthepassengersideunit;theyarenotidentical.Therearethreescrewsthatholdthepivotalarmofthesun
visortotheheadliner.Removeeachscrewusingasmall#20torxscrewdriverstartingwiththelowerscrewasshowninFigure1.
Thenunclipthesunvisorandrotateitovertoexposeandremovethetwoupperscrews.
Step 2 Remove the visor retaining clips
Removethesunvisorretainingclips,unscrewthesingletorxscrewholdingitinplaceasshowninFigure2.
Step 3 Attach the pivot arm brackets
Attachtheouterbracketsthataresuppliednotingthedifferencebetweenpassengeranddriversidebrackets(seeFigure3-Driver
sideshown).RotatethePivotArmontheDriver'ssidesunvisorandverifytheorientationof the Outer BracketasshowninFigure4.
PositiontheDriver'sSidepivotarmandattachthefirstTorxscrewasshowninFigure5.Next,movethesunvisoroverinordertogain
accesstoinstalltheothertwoTorxscrews.RepeatthisoperationforthePassengerSidepivotarmandouterbracket.Donottighten
anyofthescrewsatthistime.
Step 4 Attach brackets to sun visor retaining clips
PlacetheinnerbracketontheretainingclipasshowninFigures6and7.Attachtheinnerbracketandretainingcliptotheheadlineras
illustratedinFigure8.Donottightenthesescrewsatthistime.

Step 5 Mounting the SuperVisorTL™
Onceallfourbracketsandsunvisorsareattached,theSuperVisorTLisnowreadytobeinstalled.Rotatetherearviewmirrordownas
faroutofthewayaspossible.RoutethepowercableacrossthetopandalongthepassengersideoftheSuperVisorTL,thenrouteit
throughthenotchprovidedonthefrontandpassengersideoftheouterpanel.Thiswillpreventitfrominterferingwiththeheadlineror
thewindshieldduringinstallation.CarefullymovetheSuperVisorTLintopositionbytiltingoneendupwiththefrontoutertipofthe
SuperVisorTLinfrontofthecornerpostoftheCrownVicasshowninFigure9,thenswingtheotherendupintopositionbeingvery
carefulnot toscratch the CrownVic's plasticcorner post covers (Note: It may be helpful to have an assistant gently push on the
vehicle's plastic corner door post cover as you swing the SuperVisorTL into position to prevent scratching the plastic
cover. Also make sure there is no slack in the SuperVisorTL's power cable and it is not interfering with the positioning
oftheSuperVisorTL).LineupthemountingholesintheoutermountingbracketswiththethreadedholesintheSuperVisorTLand
threadthesupplied1/4"-20boltsandinternaltoothlockwashersintotheSuperVisorTL'sOuterPanel(seeFigure10).Nextlineupthe
mountingholesintheInnermountingbracketswiththethreadedholesintheSuperVisorTLandlooselythreadthesupplied1/4"-20bolts
andinternaltoothlockwashersintoholesintheSuperVisorTL'sOuterPanel(seeFigure 11).Tightenthe1/4-20boltsintheOuter
MountingBrackets(seeFigure12),thentightenthethreeTorxscrewsineachofthetwoouterPivotBrackets.Tightenthetwocenter
innermountingscrews,thenwhilepushingupontheSuperVisorTL'sOuterPanel,tightenthelasttwo1/4-20boltsattheInnerMounting
Brackets(seeFigure13).
The bracket fasteners make excellent hard mounting points for radar guns and video
cameras etc.
Caution:Drilling into the housing of the lightbar could damage wiring or other internal
components.

Wiring Instructions
Largerwiresandtightconnectionswillprovidelongerservicelifeforcomponents. Forhighcurrentwiresitis
highlyrecommendedthatterminalblocksorsolderedconnectionsbeusedwithshrinktubingtoprotectthe
connections. Donotuseinsulationdisplacement connectors(e.g.3M®Scotchlocktypeconnectors). Route
wiringusinggrommetsandsealantwhenpassingthroughcompartmentwalls. Minimizethenumberofsplicesto
reducevoltagedrop. Highambienttemperatures(e.g.underhood)willsignificantlyreduce thecurrentcarrying
capacityofwires,fuses,andcircuitbreakers. Use"SXL"typewireinenginecompartment. Allwiringshould
conformtotheminimumwiresizeandotherrecommendationsofthemanufacturerandbeprotectedfrommoving
partsandhot surfaces. Looms,grommets,cableties,andsimilarinstallationhardwareshouldbeusedto
anchorandprotectallwiring. Fusesorcircuitbreakersshouldbelocatedasclosetothepowertakeoffpointsas
possibleandproperlysizedtoprotectthewiringanddevices. Particularattentionshouldbepaidtothelocation
andmethodofmakingelectricalconnectionsandsplicestoprotectthesepointsfromcorrosionandlossof
conductivity. Groundterminationsshouldonlybemadetosubstantialchassiscomponents,preferablydirectlyto
thevehiclebattery. Theusershouldinstallafusesizedtoapproximately125%ofthemaximumAmpcapacityin
thesupplylinetoprotectagainstshortcircuits. Forexample,a30Ampfuseshouldcarryamaximumof24
Amps. DONOTUSE1/4"DIAMETERGLASSFUSESASTHEYARENOTSUITABLEFORCONTINUOUS
DUTYINSIZESABOVE15AMPS. Circuitbreakersareverysensitivetohightemperaturesandwill"falsetrip"
whenmountedinhot environmentsoroperatedclosetotheircapacity.

RoutethewiringcableintothepassengercompartmentasshowninFigure14.Itisadvisabletoleaveanextraloopofcablewhen
installingthelightbartoallowforfuturechangesorreinstallations.Connecttheblackleadtoasolidframeground(earth),
preferably,the(-)orground (earth)sideofthebattery,and the remainingpowerwirestothe +12V terminalofthebattery,power
switches,sirenorRLScontroller.Eachlightheadiswiredindependentlytoallowcompleteflexibilityofcontrol.

LED Fusing Considerations
Althoughtheaveragecurrentdrawpermoduleisverylow,duetothetypeofcircuitusedtopowereachmodule,theinstantaneous
peakcurrenttoamodulecanbesignificantlyhigherduringlowvoltageconditions.ToavoidprematurelyblowingATOstylefusesor
trippingbreakersitisrecommendedthefollowingrule-of-thumbbeusedtosizefusesorbreakers.Thisisespeciallyimportantin
lightbarswithmanyLEDmodulesrunningoffasinglefusedsource,
