Server Features
This guide provides information about Compaq ProLiantML370
Generation 2 tower and rack servers. This ground-up redesign pushes the
engineering and design envelope by offering features never before seen in this
class of server.
ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers combine the latest Intel Pentium III
processor technology with 64-bit/66-MHz PCI Hot Plug expansion slots,
triple-peer PCI bus architecture, 133-MHz front-side bus processing,
online spare memory support, hot-plug redundant power and cooling options,
and rapid deploy rails for Compaq, Telco and third-party racks. This enhanced
feature set provides the customer with superior performance, higher levels of
availability, and simplified setup and serviceability.

Processor
Compaq ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers support the following
advanced processor features:

Compaq ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers support Compaq Advanced
Memory Protection features including:
■2 ×1 interleaving memory configuration
■133-MHz registered SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMMs)
■ECC memory for single-bit memory error correction and multi-bit
memory error detection
■System memory expandable to 6 GB
■Support for online spare memory
Expansion Slots
Compaq ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers provide support for installing
or connecting peripheral components through six expansion slots. The
expansion slots on the system board are configured as follows:
■Six expansion slots
GTwo 64-bit/66-MHz full-length PCI Hot Plug slots with peak
transfer rates of 533 MB/s
GFour 64-bit/33-MHz full-length PCI expansion slots with peak
transfer rates of 266 MB/s
■Support for peripheral transactions at a clock speed of up to 66 MHz
Integrated SCSI Controller
Compaq ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers include a standard Integrated
Dual Channel Ultra3 SCSI Controller with:
■64-bit PCI bus master interface
■Ultra3 SCSI bus transfer rate with peak transfer rate of 160 MB/s per
channel
■Two SCSI ports supporting up to six internal hot-plug Wide Ultra2 or
Ultra3 SCSI hard drives

VHDCI SCSI connector on the rear panel
■Support for hot-plug tape drives and hard drives in six hot-plug SCSI

ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers also support installation of the Smart
Array 5i Controller with:

Standard Network Interface Controller
The NIC provided with your ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 server is an
Integrated Compaq NC3163 Fast Ethernet NIC with the following features:
■Dual 10/100 Mb/s data transfer rate integrated on a PCI local bus
■Auto-sensing LAN capable at either 10 or 100 Mb/s
■Full-duplex ethernet for two-way transmission
■Support for PXE technology
■Support for WOL functionality

Storage Media
Compaq ProLiant ML370 Generation 2 servers house up to ten internal
storage media devices in the removable media drive area and hot-plug SCSI
hard drive cage.
Tape, Diskette, and CD-ROM Drives
The standard configuration for the removable media area includes:
■One half-height, removable media drive bay populated with a
40X IDE CD-ROM drive
■One third-height diskette drive bay populated with a 3.5 inch, 1.44-MB
diskette drive
■Two available half-height, 5.25-inch, removable media drive bays
Hard Drives
The standard configuration for the hot-plug hard drive cage includes:
■Support for up to six 1-inch, hot-plug Wide Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI drives
■Support for combined tape and hard drive configurations with the
integrated dual-channel Ultra3 SCSI controller or optional
Smart Array 5i Controller
■Support for Wide Ultra2 and Ultra3 SCSI tape drives or hard drives
running at native speeds across a single SCSI channel
