1 Introduction
1.1 Firstthingsrst!
Thank you for choosing the Condair MD.
The Condair MD has been built using state-of-the-art technology and in accordance with the latest safety
regulations. However, improper use of the Condair MD may put users and/or third parties at risk and/or
may also cause damage to material assets.
Please observe and comply with all information and safety instructions in this documentation and in the
instructions to the components built into the humidier system to ensure safe, proper and cost-efcient
operation of the Condair MD.
Should you have any questions after reading these instructions, please contact your local Condair rep-
resentative. We will be happy to assist.
1.2 Notes on the planning manual
Delimitations
This planning manual deals with the different variants of the Condair MD. Options and accessories
are only described insofar as is necessary for proper operation. Please see the relevant instructions for
additional information on the options and accessories.
The information in this manual is limited to the planning of the Condair MD and is aimed at correspond-
inglytrainedandadequatelyqualiedgroupsofpersons.
This planning manual is accompanied by various separate documents which are included with delivery.
Where necessary, these instructions may refer to these publications.

Furthermore, for safety and warranty reasons, interventions may only be undertaken by specialist per-
sonnel authorised by Condair.
It is assumed that all persons entrusted to work on the Condair MD are familiar with and abide by the
regulations on occupational health and safety and accident prevention.
Intended use
The Condair MD is exclusivelyintendedforductairhumidicationtogetherwithEnergyRecovery
Ventilation(ERV)withinthespeciedoperatingconditions (see Section 6.1 and Section 6.2). Any
other use without the written permission of Condair is deemed to be improper use and can render the
Condair MD hazardous.
Intended use also includes compliance with all information contained in this documentation as
well as the installation and commissioning instructions as well as the operating instructions
(particularly all safety and hazard information).
Hazards that may arise from the Condair MD:
DANGER!
Risk of electrocution
The hydraulic unit of the Condair MD operates using mains voltage. If the hydraulic unit is open,
users may come into contact with live parts. Touching live parts may cause severe injury or death.
For this reason: Before starting work on the hydraulic unit, disconnect it from the mains power
supply (remove plug from socket).
CAUTION!
Leaking or defective water pipes/connections may lead to water damage.
For this reason: If possible, the hydraulic unit and the humidier unit must be installed in a utility room
with a oor drain connected to the on-site wastewater pipe. If this is not possible, we recommend using
the optional leakage monitoring.
Unauthorisedmodicationstothedevice
No additions or modications must be made to the Condair MD without the written permission of
Condair.
When replacing any defective components on the unit, use only genuine accessories and spare parts
provided by your Condair representative.

3 Product overview
3.1 Model overview
The Condair MD is available in four different variants with a humidication output of 2 kg/h for installation
in horizontal ventilation ducts (H).
– EL: heating up the humidication water with integrated, electrical heating.
– HW: heating up the humidication water using the integrated heat exchanger connected to a hot
water system of a heating system.
– FB: heating up the humidication water using the integrated heat exchanger connected to a oor/
wall-based heating or a convection circuit.
– WW: heating up the humidication water using the integrated heat exchanger connected to the hot
water system (heated drinking water or heated waste water).

1) The stated humidication output is the maximum value, measured at an air throughput rate of 180
m3/h. The effective humidication output depends on the heating source output, the condition of the
supply air and the adjusted humidity setpoint. The output has been veried by Fraunhofer Institute
for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Freiburg, Germany.
The functionality of all basic models can be enhanced using various options. Different accessories and
consumables are also available.

3.2 System description
System design
A Condair MD consists of the hydraulic unit and the humidier unit.
– Humidierunit(humidicationoutput2kg/h)
The humidier unit is installed at minimum 300 mm above the hydraulic unit with the adapters in the
central supply air line upstream of the distributor and downstream of any silencer.
The humidier unit can be mounted to the ceiling or wall with 4 M8 threaded rods (standard) or two
pipe clamps.
– Hydraulic unit
The hydraulic unit is mounted to the wall at minimum 300 mm below the humidier unit with the
supplied mounting rails.
The hydraulic unit is available in four different variants:
– EL: heating up the humidication water with integrated, electrical heating.
– FB: Heating up humidier water using a heat exchanger connected to an underoor/wall heating
circuit or a convector circuit with circulation pump.
– HW: Heating up humidier water using a heat exchanger connected to the heating water system
of a heating system without a circulation pump.
– WW: Heating up humidier water using a heat exchanger connected to the hot water system
(heated drinking water) without circulation pump.
Power supply
The hydraulic unit requires a 3-pin 230V/1~/50Hz mains socket. The mains socket must be installed in
accordance with local regulations and protected by a separate, on-site RCD switch (max. 30 mA) and
a separate automatic circuit breaker (min. 10 A, slow-blow).
The control and monitoring devices (humidity and temperature sensor, max. humidistat and air ow
monitor) are supplied with 24 VDC by the hydraulic unit.
Supply water
– Water quality: drinking water with max. 100 cfu/ml
– Water inlet pressure: 150 to 500 kPa (1.5 to 5 bar)
– Water hardness: 1 to 30 °dH
– pH value: 6.5 to 9.0
Water drain
The water drain of the hydraulic unit is connected to the wastewater pipe on site using an open drain
funnel with siphon.
Heating water supply and return or hot water supply and return
The hot water supply and return (for MD-HW-H and MD-FB-H variants) as well as the hot water supply
and return (for MD-WW-H variant) are connected to the corresponding connections on the underside
of the hydraulic unit.

3.5 Options
The following options are available for Condair MD:
Option Description
Remote operation and fault signalling PCB (RFI)
Remote operation and fault signalling PCB for
installation in the hydraulic unit. The remote opera-
tion and fault signalling PCB has four potential-free
relay contacts for the remote display of the following
operating states: “Device switched on", "Device
humidied", "Service due" and "Error".
Leakage monitoring room Leakage monitoring for rooms without oor drain
consisting of oor sensor and connection cable.
Heating element (for MD-FB-H variant only)
Heating element with cable for installation in the
water tank of the hydraulic unit for the MD-FB-H
unit variant at supply temperatures below 29°C.
Note: The minimum supply temperature when using
the additional heating element must be at minimum
27°C. If you have any questions, please contact
your Condair representative.
Humidier unit lter Air lter for installation in the humidier unit.
Condair RO-HS reverse osmosis system External reverse osmosis system for supplying
reverse osmosis water to the Condair MD.
Decarboniser
Decarboniser (resin lter) for removing the miner-
als dissolved in the water for supplying water with
reduced mineral content to the Condair MD.

3.6 Accessories
The following accessories are available for the Condair MD:

Service kit
Service kit for descaling/disinfection of Condair
MD. The service kit includes: A dosing bottle with
quick coupling, a funnel, a container with descaler
granules and a bottle with 1 l disinfectant.

4 Planning a Condair MD system
4.1 Requirements for the installation room
The humidier unit and the hydraulic unit have been designed for installation in protected indoor spaces.
Please note the following regarding the requirements for the installation site:
– The humidier unit must be installed together with the hydraulic unit in a utility room that has been
protected against unauthorised access.
– The installation room must have a oordrainconnected to the on-site wastewater pipe.
Note: If there is no oor drain, the installation of the optional "leakage monitoring" is recommended.
– The room temperature must be between +7°C and +30°C all year round and the humidity between
15% rH and 50% rH (non-condensing) and the room must be ventilated.
– There must be a sufciently large, free ceiling or wall surface at the installation location for mounting
the humidier unit and a sufciently large, free wall surface for mounting the hydraulic unit.
4.2 Humidierunitselectionandpositioning
4.2.1 Humidierunitpre-assemblykit
To take into account any subsequent installation of the Condair MD when planning a new ventilation
system, a pre-assembly kit can be ordered. The pre-assembly kit includes:
– Humidier housing 2 kg/h
– Two adapters incl. seal for installation in ventilation ducts with DN125, DN160 and DN180.
Note: No adapters are required for ventilation ducts with DN200.
When selecting the pre-assembly set, the nominal diameter of the adapters as well as the type of instal-
lation (ceiling or wall) must be dened.
Please observe and follow the instructions for positioning the humidier unit when determining the instal-
lation location (see Section 4.2.2).

Please observe and follow the instructions for positioning the humidier unit:
– The ceiling/wall on which the humidier unit or the hydraulic unit is mounted must have sufcient
load-bearing capacity and be suitable for fastening (see Fig. 5, Fig. 6 and Fig. 7).

– The installation site must not be exposed to direct sunlight and must be sufciently far away from
other heat sources.
– The humidier unit must be installed at minimum 0.3 m and at maximum 3.0 m above the hydraulic
unit in the supply air duct of the ERV. The pipe lengths between the humidier unit and the hydraulic
unit must not exceed 3 m. In order to avoid standing water in the pipes, it must be taken into account
that the pipes between the humidier unit and the hydraulic unit must be routed with a constant
slope.
– A lter with a minimum neness of G4 (recommendation F7) must be installed in the supply air of the
ERV and regularly serviced to ensure hygienic operation. This lter reliably protects the humidier
insert from contamination by dust particles and thus extends the service life of the humidier insert.
– Position the humidier unit in such a way that it is easily accessible and has sufcient space for ser-
vicing. Minimum distances according to the installation overviews in Section 3.3 must be observed.
– The humidier unit is installed with the enclosed adapters in the central supply air line upstream of
the distributor and downstream of any silencer.
Ceiling mounting with threaded rods: The humidier unit is fastened to the ceiling with four
threaded rods and nuts (see Fig. 5). The fastening material is not included in the scope of delivery.
Alternative ceiling mounting with pipe clamps: The humidier unit is fastened to the ceiling with
two ø200 mm pipe clamps (see Fig. 6). The fastening material is not included in the scope of delivery.
Wall mounting: The humidier unit is attached to the wall with 4 dowel pins and screws (enclosed)
(see Fig. 7).
The total installation length is:
– When using DN125 adapters: 729 mm
– When using DN160 adapters: 695 mm
– When using DN180 adapters: 675 mm
– Without adapters (DN200): 549 mm
– The ceiling or wall on which the humidier unit is mounted must have sufcient load-bearing capacity
as well as stability and be suitable for fastening. The operating weight of the humidier unit is approx.
18 kg.
– To ensure correct operation of the air ow monitor and the max. humidistat, a straight duct section
with a minimum length of 550 mm must be provided upstream of the humidier unit and a straight
duct section with a minimum length of 300 mm downstream of the humidier unit must be provided
for the integration of the air ow monitor and the max. humidistat.
